“Landlocks & Brookies” • The fam and I were out trying to find moose along the dirt roads when we stumbled upon an apparently unnamed pond on the Connecticut River, which is scarcely more than a humble brook that far up.
First cast at the outflow of the small dam brought a brookie up to an elk hair caddis. Subsequent casts found brookies wildly striking away, with the occasional salmon parr in the mix. Wild brookies on the little stream that is the Connecticut River: it sounds so contradictory when you come from a place where the river is upwards of a quarter-mile across!
