Burbot. Is it hunting or fishing? The burbot (Lota lota), often referred to as "gelod" in Russian, is a fascinating fish species that thrives in the cold, freshwater rivers and lakes across Russia. This nocturnal predator is widely distributed throughout the country, from the European part of Russia to Siberia and the Far East. It prefers deep, slow-moving waters with muddy or sandy bottoms, making it particularly well-suited to the vast network of lakes and rivers found in Russia's diverse landscapes. In many parts of Russia, burbot holds cultural significance as both a source of sustenance and a symbol of resilience against harsh conditions. Its firm white flesh is prized for its flavor and versatility, whether smoked, fried, or made into soup. During festive occasions, dishes featuring burbot are often prepared to celebrate the bounty of the winter harvest. The burbot, a fascinating and resilient freshwater fish, has developed an intriguing survival strategy to cope with low oxygen levels in its environment. During the winter months, when lakes and rivers are covered by thick layers of ice, oxygen can become scarce beneath the frozen surface due to limited exchange between water and air. To survive these challenging conditions, the burbot exhibits remarkable behavior: it seeks out natural or pre-existing holes in the ice and climbs toward the surface, positioning itself near the opening where oxygen-rich air meets the water. This adaptive response allows the burbot to access higher concentrations of dissolved oxygen from the atmosphere above. By lingering close to these ice holes, the fish can replenish its oxygen supply, ensuring that its vital physiological functions continue uninterrupted. This behavior is particularly crucial for burbot living in deep, stagnant waters where oxygen depletion occurs more frequently during long winters. Interestingly, this adaptation not only demonstrates the burbot's intelligence but also highlights its ability to thrive in harsh environments. While other species may struggle under such conditions, the burbot's resourcefulness enables it to endure and even flourish in ecosystems where oxygen availability fluctuates dramatically. Through its unique approach to overcoming hypoxic challenges, the burbot showcases nature's ingenuity in equipping organisms with tools to persist against adversity. Burbot in Russian Waters Burbot can be found in many famous water bodies across Russia, such as Lake Baikal, the Volga River, the Ob River, and countless smaller lakes and streams. These fish are highly adaptable and thrive in both large reservoirs and remote Arctic regions, where they endure extreme temperatures and long winters. In winter, when ice covers much of Russia's waterways, burbot remains active beneath the frozen surface, relying on its keen sense of smell and tactile barbels to hunt for prey like small fish, insects, and crustaceans. Winter Ice Fishing for Burbot Ice fishing for burbot is a popular pastime among Russian anglers, especially during the coldest months of the year. The fish becomes more accessible under the ice due to its tendency to congregate near structures like sunken logs, drop-offs, and underwater ridges. Here’s how people traditionally catch burbot during the winter: Finding the Right Spot : Experienced fishermen know that burbot often gather in deeper sections of lakes and rivers, close to areas rich in food sources. They look for signs of structure beneath the ice, using modern technology like fish finders or traditional methods like tapping on the ice to locate promising spots. • Drilling Holes : Once a suitable location is identified, anglers drill holes through the thick ice using augers. These holes provide access to the water below and allow baited lines to reach the depths where burbot typically reside. • Using Live Bait : Burbot are voracious predators, so live bait is essential for attracting them. Minnows, worms, and even pieces of fish are commonly used to entice these opportunistic feeders. A jigging technique—where the bait is moved up and down in short bursts—often mimics injured prey and triggers a strike. • Patience and Technique : Fishing for burbot requires patience, as these fish are cautious hunters. Anglers must wait quietly above their hole, carefully monitoring their line for subtle bites. When a burbot takes the bait, its strong pull makes for an exciting fight, rewarding those who persevere. • Traditional Methods : In some rural areas, locals still use time-honored techniques passed down through generations. For example, setting tip-ups—devices that signal when a fish has taken the bait—or employing handlines with multiple hooks can increase the chances of success. Overall, the burbot stands as a testament to nature's ability to adapt and survive in some of the most challenging environments. For Russians engaged in ice fishing, pursuing this elusive fish offers not just a meal but also a connection to tradition, community, and the enduring spirit of the wild.

(NRA - National Rifle Association) The National Rifle Association (NRA) is one of the oldest and most influential organizations in the United States, founded in 1871. The NRA is dedicated to protecting gun ownership rights, promoting shooting sports, hunting and gun safety. The association is active in U.S. politics, lobbying for gun owners and opposing restrictions on gun ownership. The NRA also provides educational programs, safety training and organizes shooting competitions. NRA HISTORY • Founding of National Rifle Association. The NRA was founded on November 17, 1871, by two Union Army officers, William Conant Church and George Wood, who were concerned about the poor marksmanship skills of American soldiers during the Civil War. Initially, the organization focused on promoting rifle shooting as a sport. • Early Years. In its early years, the NRA primarily worked to promote marksmanship training and organized competitive shooting events. It established the first formal rifle range at Creedmoor, New York, in 1873. • Expansion into Advocacy. Over time, the NRA's mission evolved beyond just promoting marksmanship. By the mid-20th century, it began advocating for gun rights and opposing restrictive gun control laws. This shift solidified its position as a powerful political force in the U.S. • NRA Modern Era. In the late 20th century, under the leadership of figures like Harlon Carter and later Wayne LaPierre, the NRA became more aggressive in its lobbying efforts, focusing heavily on Second Amendment rights and opposing gun control measures. NRA MEMBERS • NRA Membership Size. As of recent estimates, the NRA has around 5 million members, though this number fluctuates over time. Members include hunters, recreational shooters, gun collectors, and individuals passionate about gun rights. • Diverse Demographics. While traditionally associated with rural and conservative demographics, the NRA’s membership includes people from various backgrounds, including urban areas and diverse ethnic groups. • Benefits for NRA Members. Membership benefits include access to discounts on firearms, insurance, and training programs, as well as subscriptions to NRA publications such as American Rifleman and Shooting Illustrated. For many NRA members, hunting is not just a hobby but a way of life rooted in tradition, family, and community. The NRA actively promotes hunting as a cultural practice that connects individuals to nature and reinforces values like responsibility, patience, and respect for wildlife. Hunting is often passed down through generations, and the NRA helps preserve this heritage by celebrating the history and traditions of hunting in America. The NRA organizes events and gatherings where hunters can share experiences, learn new skills, and connect with others who share their passion for the outdoors. NRA offers numerous programs designed to teach responsible hunting practices. One of the NRA's key contributions to hunting is its emphasis on education and safety. NRA offers: • Hunter Education Courses • Youth Hunting Programs • Women’s (Huntress) Programs ITERESTING FACTS ABOUT NRA First NRA Shooting Range. The NRA's first official shooting range was located at Creedmoor, Long Island, New York. However, due to increasing urbanization, the range eventually closed, and the land was sold to the city of New York. NRA During World Wars. During World Wars I and II, National Rifle Association played a vital role in training civilians and military personnel in marksmanship. It even helped establish rifle clubs in schools to prepare young men for potential service. Hollywood and NRA Connection. National Rifle Association once had a strong relationship with Hollywood, providing technical expertise for films involving firearms. This collaboration aimed to ensure accuracy in how guns were portrayed on screen. Controversial Figures. The NRA has faced controversy over the years due to high-profile leaders like Wayne LaPierre, whose hardline stance on gun rights often sparks debate. Additionally, scandals involving financial mismanagement have drawn scrutiny. NRA Media Ventures. National Rifle Association operates several media outlets, including NRATV, a digital news platform launched in 2016 that covers topics related to firearms, hunting, and second amendment rights. NRATV gained attention for its provocative commentary and viral videos. State Affiliates. National Rifle Association works closely with state-level affiliates to advocate for gun rights locally. These affiliates often lead grassroots efforts to influence legislation and public opinion. The National Rifle Association has evolved significantly since its founding in 1871, transforming from a modest organization focused on marksmanship into a powerhouse influencing national debates on gun policy. With millions of members and substantial financial resources, the NRA continues to shape the conversation around gun rights in America. Whether viewed as a defender of constitutional freedoms or a polarizing force, there is no denying the profound impact the NRA has had on U.S. society and politics. The NRA's involvement in hunting reflects its broader commitment to fostering a culture of responsible firearm use and appreciation for outdoor traditions. By providing education, supporting conservation efforts, and celebrating the legacy of hunting, the NRA continues to play a pivotal role in shaping the future of hunting in America. While challenges remain, the organization remains dedicated to ensuring that hunting remains a cherished part of American life for generations to come.

Yakut moose is now even more accessible To receive the 🏆 "Russian Super Cup" prize in the KGO, a Yakut moose trophy must be harvested. And in general, the trophy will be of interest to all collectors. The Yakut moose 🫎 in the shape and size of its antlers is more similar to a large European moose, good specimens of which have been successfully harvested in the Chelyabinsk region in recent years. In a very frosty climate of -50 and with poor nutrition, the antlers of the "Yakuts" never reach the size of the Chukchi ones. When serious frosts come, the moose goes out into open spaces and starts moving so as not to freeze. Therefore, in Yakutia, local hunters prefer to go moose when the cold weather begins 🥶 from -40 ° C. 🗓 Hunting season: from September to January. ℹ️ Individual hunting or up to 2 people in a group. Each hunter is provided with personal transport, a driver and a guide. The cost of 3 days of hunting, including 1 Yakut moose trophy, is 700,000 rubles. Alaska's Majestic Bears: A Guide to Understanding These Iconic Giants Discover Alaska's diverse bear population, including grizzlies, black bears, and polar bears. Learn about their habitats, behavior, safety tips, and how to observe them responsibly. Alaska, the Last Frontier, is renowned for its breathtaking landscapes, abundant wildlife, and, most notably, its impressive bear population. These magnificent creatures hold a significant place in Alaska's ecosystem and cultural heritage. From the formidable grizzly to the adaptable black bear and the Arctic-dwelling polar bear, Alaska offers a unique opportunity to witness these iconic animals in their natural habitat. This article delves into the world of Alaskan bears, providing insights into their characteristics, behavior, and how to safely and responsibly appreciate their presence. Types of Bears in Alaska: Alaska is home to three main types of bears: Grizzly Bear (Brown Bear): Often referred to as brown bears, grizzlies are the largest and most powerful land predators in Alaska. They are characterized by their prominent shoulder hump (a mass of muscle for digging), long claws, and dish-shaped face. Coastal brown bears, thriving on salmon runs, can grow to immense sizes. Grizzlies are omnivorous, with a diet that includes berries, roots, insects, fish, and mammals. They are most active during the day (diurnal) but can adjust their behavior to avoid human contact. Black Bear: The most common bear species in Alaska, black bears are found in forested areas throughout the state. Despite their name, their fur can range in color from black to brown, cinnamon, or even blonde. They are generally smaller than grizzlies and lack the distinctive shoulder hump. Black bears are opportunistic feeders, consuming a wide variety of plants, fruits, insects, and small animals. Polar Bear: Found primarily in the Arctic regions of Alaska, polar bears are highly specialized for life in the icy environment. They have thick fur, a layer of blubber for insulation, and large paws for navigating snow and ice. Polar bears are primarily carnivores, relying heavily on seals for sustenance. Climate change and the loss of sea ice are significant threats to their survival. Bear Habitat and Distribution: Grizzly Bears: Found throughout Alaska, with higher densities in areas with abundant food sources like salmon streams and berry patches. Black Bears: Found in forested areas across Alaska, excluding some areas of the Arctic. Polar Bears: Found along the Arctic coast of Alaska, primarily near sea ice. Bear Behavior and Ecology: Understanding bear behavior is crucial for both appreciating these animals and ensuring your safety. Here are some key aspects: Hibernation: During the winter months, bears enter a state of dormancy to conserve energy. They reduce their metabolic rate, heart rate, and breathing. While not true hibernation, this period allows them to survive when food is scarce. Diet: Bears are opportunistic omnivores. Their diet varies depending on the season and availability of food. Social Structure: Bears are generally solitary animals, except for mothers with cubs. Communication: Bears communicate through scent marking, body language, and vocalizations. Bear Safety Tips: Alaska is bear country, and taking precautions is essential when exploring the outdoors. Here are some important safety tips: Make Noise: Hike in groups and make noise to alert bears to your presence. Singing, talking loudly, or using bear bells can help. Carry Bear Spray: Bear spray is a highly effective deterrent against aggressive bears. Know how to use it properly and keep it readily accessible. Store Food Properly: Store food in airtight containers and hang it between trees, at least 10 feet off the ground and 4 feet from the trunk. Avoid Attracting Bears: Do not leave food scraps or garbage behind. Be Aware of Your Surroundings: Pay attention to signs of bear activity, such as tracks, scat, and claw marks on trees. Never Approach a Bear: If you encounter a bear, remain calm, slowly back away, and avoid direct eye contact. Responsible Bear Viewing: Seeing a bear in its natural habitat can be an unforgettable experience. Here are some guidelines for responsible bear viewing: Maintain a Safe Distance: Observe bears from a safe distance using binoculars or a spotting scope. Do Not Feed Bears: Feeding bears is illegal and can habituate them to humans, leading to dangerous encounters. Respect Their Space: Avoid approaching bears, especially mothers with cubs. Support Sustainable Tourism: Choose tour operators that prioritize bear conservation and responsible wildlife viewing practices. Conservation Efforts: Protecting Alaska's bear population is crucial for maintaining the health of the ecosystem. Various organizations and agencies are involved in bear research, habitat conservation, and public education. These efforts help ensure that future generations can appreciate these magnificent animals. Conclusion: Alaska's bears are a symbol of the state's wild beauty and untamed spirit. By understanding their behavior, respecting their habitat, and following safety guidelines, we can coexist with these incredible creatures and ensure their continued survival in the Last Frontier. Plan your visit responsibly, be prepared, and marvel at the majestic bears of Alaska. #Alaska #Bears #Grizzly #Bear #BrownBear, #BlackBear

BASC - BRITISH ASSOCIATION FOR SHOOTING AND CONSERVATION BASC plays a crucial role in preserving shooting traditions in UK while adapting them to meet modern standards of sustainability and ethics. The British Association for Shooting and Conservation (BASC) is one of the largest hunting organizations in the UK. TRADITION AND CULTURAL SIGNIFICANCE Shooting has deep historical roots in British culture, dating back centuries to medieval times when it was practiced by royalty and nobility. Over time, it became a popular pastime among rural communities, fostering connections between people and the natural world. The origins of BASC date back to the mid-19th century when hunting was an integral part of rural life in Britain. Initially founded as the "National Wildfowlers' Association" in 1865, the organization aimed to protect the rights of wildfowlers (waterfowl hunters) and promote ethical hunting practices. Over time, its scope expanded to include all forms of shooting—game birds, deer, rabbits, and other quarry species—and it became known as the British Association for Shooting and Conservation. In the early 20th century, British Association for Shooting and Conservation worked tirelessly to address concerns about overhunting and habitat destruction. By collaborating with landowners, government agencies, and environmental groups, BASC helped establish regulations that ensured sustainable hunting practices. One of the key principles upheld by BASC is the concept of fair chase , which emphasizes respect for animals and ensures that hunting is conducted humanely and responsibly. The association also promotes the idea of conservation through recreation , highlighting how hunting can contribute positively to ecosystem health. Hunting traditions supported by BASC extend beyond mere sport. They encompass activities like driven grouse shooting, clay pigeon shooting, and stalking deer, each with its own unique rituals and techniques. These practices are often passed down through families, reinforcing intergenerational bonds and cultural continuity. In recent decades, BASC has evolved into a modern advocacy group focused on education, research, and community engagement. It continues to champion the values of traditional field sports while addressing contemporary challenges such as climate change, biodiversity loss, and public perception of hunting. BASC represents the interests of hunters, shooters and anglers and is dedicated to protecting their rights, promoting sustainable hunting and conservation. The association is actively involved in the development of legislation related to hunting and wildlife conservation, as well as providing educational programs and support to its members. MEMBERSHIP AND INFLUENCE As of recent estimates, BASC boasts over 170,000 members , making it one of the largest shooting organizations in the UK. Its membership includes individuals from diverse backgrounds, ranging from amateur hunters and gamekeepers to professional conservationists and landowners. This broad base of support allows BASC to influence policy decisions at both national and regional levels. Members receive benefits such as access to expert advice, legal support, insurance services, and opportunities to participate in educational programs. BASC also organizes events, competitions, and training courses designed to promote safe and ethical hunting practices. HUNTING IMPACT AND CONSERVATION EFFORTS BASC argues that hunting has a significant positive impact on conservation and rural economies. Here are some key ways in which hunting contributes: Wildlife Management : Hunters play a critical role in controlling populations of certain species, such as deer, rabbits, and pigeons, which can cause damage to crops, woodlands, and ecosystems if left unchecked. Through regulated hunting, BASC helps maintain balanced wildlife populations. • Habitat Preservation : Many BASC members actively manage their land to create or enhance habitats for game species and other wildlife. Activities like planting cover crops, maintaining hedgerows, and restoring wetlands benefit a wide range of flora and fauna. • Economic Contributions : Shooting generates substantial revenue for rural areas, supporting local businesses, employment, and infrastructure. According to BASC estimates, shooting contributes around £2.4 billion annually to the UK economy and supports approximately 75,000 jobs. • Research and Education : BASC funds scientific research to better understand wildlife populations, disease dynamics, and ecological interactions. It also provides educational resources to inform hunters and the general public about best practices in conservation and safety. • Community Engagement : BASC works closely with farmers, landowners, and rural communities to address shared challenges related to wildlife management and land use. This collaborative approach strengthens relationships and fosters mutual understanding. The British Association for Shooting and Conservation (BASC) stands as a pillar of tradition and innovation in the realm of field sports and conservation. With over 170,000 members, it represents a vibrant community committed to preserving the heritage of hunting while ensuring its compatibility with modern environmental goals. Through its efforts in wildlife management, habitat preservation, economic development, and education, BASC demonstrates that hunting can coexist harmoniously with conservation, benefiting both people and nature. As debates around hunting continue, BASC remains a powerful voice for responsible stewardship of Britain's natural resources. Brno ZH 304 12/7x57R: A Practical Hunter's Tool With Quirks

My honest take on the Brno ZH 304 12/7x57R, based on my own experience as a hunter and gun enthusiast. Forget

Brno ZH 304 12/7x57R: A Practical Hunter's Tool With Quirks My honest take on the Brno ZH 304 12/7x57R, based on my own experience as a hunter and gun enthusiast. Forget the marketing fluff, this is real-world feedback. The Brno ZH 304. It's a name that conjures up images of tough Eastern European hunters, thick forests, and game taken with precision. This combination gun/double rifle has a certain appeal, a no-nonsense functionality that attracts those who value practicality over flashy aesthetics. I've owned and used one for several seasons, primarily for driven hunts and pursuing boar in close cover, and I've developed a complex relationship with it. The Good: Versatility: This is the ZH 304's biggest selling point. The combination of a 12-gauge shotgun barrel and a 7x57R rifle barrel makes it adaptable to a wide range of hunting situations. You can transition from birds to deer to boar with a simple barrel selector. For a hunter who wants a single gun that can do almost anything, this is a strong contender. Reliability: These guns are built like tanks. The action is solid, the lockup is tight, and the overall construction is robust. Mine has seen some rough treatment in the field – rain, mud, being bumped against trees – and it has never once failed to fire. It's a testament to Czech engineering. The 7x57R Cartridge: Don't let the age of this cartridge fool you. The 7x57R is a capable round for deer, boar, and even larger game at moderate ranges. It's accurate, has manageable recoil in this platform, and is readily available (though perhaps not as common as .30-06 or .308). It also has a flat enough trajectory for most hunting scenarios. Balance and Handling (Generally): With practice, the ZH 304 can be quick to shoulder and swing, especially when the shotgun barrel is selected. The overall balance is decent, allowing for relatively fast follow-up shots (both shotgun and rifle). Price Point: Compared to many modern combination guns or double rifles, the ZH 304 offers excellent value for money. You can often find used examples in good condition for a fraction of the cost of a comparable Merkel or Blaser. The Not-So-Good: Trigger Pull: This is the ZH 304's biggest weakness. The trigger pull is heavy, creepy, and inconsistent. It takes a lot of practice to master, and even then, it can be a hindrance to accurate shooting, especially with the rifle barrel. A trigger job by a competent gunsmith is almost mandatory. Regulation of Barrels Brno ZH 304: Getting the rifle and shotgun barrels to shoot to the same point of impact can be a challenge. Some guns are well-regulated from the factory, while others require significant tweaking. This may involve experimenting with different loads, shimming the scope mount, or even having a gunsmith adjust the barrel convergence. Expect to spend some time and money getting this right. Weight Brno ZH 304: This is not a lightweight gun. It's noticeably heavier than a typical shotgun or rifle, which can be tiring on long hunts. Aesthetics: The ZH 304 is a functional gun, but it's not a beautiful gun. The wood is often plain, the finish is utilitarian, and the overall design is somewhat dated. If you're looking for a showpiece, this isn't it. Scope Mounting: Mounting a scope can be tricky and expensive. The original Brno mounts are often difficult to find and can be prone to shifting. Aftermarket options are available, but they can be pricey and may require gunsmithing. Stripping for Cleaning Brno ZH 304: Taking the gun fully apart for a deep clean is not for the faint of heart. There are a lot of small parts and springs, and it can be difficult to reassemble correctly. Unless you're a skilled gunsmith, it's best to leave this to a professional. Conclusion: The Brno ZH 304 12/7x57R is a capable and versatile hunting tool, but it's not without its flaws. It's a gun that rewards patience, practice, and a willingness to work around its quirks. If you're looking for a reliable and affordable combination gun that can handle a variety of hunting situations, and you're not afraid of a little DIY tinkering, the ZH 304 is worth considering. However, be prepared to invest some time and effort into getting it properly set up and learning to shoot it well. #BrnoZH304 #ZH304 #CombinationGun #DoubleRifle #12Gauge #7x57R #HuntingRifle #Shotgun #CzechGun #FirearmsReview #GunReview #Hunting #DrivenHunt #BoarHunting #RifleReview #Firearms #GunOwner #PracticalHunting #EuropeanHunting #HuntingGear

Browning X-Bolt chambered in .30-06 review

Alright, here's a breakdown of my experience with a Browning X-Bolt chambered in .30-06, particularly focusing on the upgrades

Browning X-Bolt chambered in .30-06 review Alright, here's a breakdown of my experience with a Browning X-Bolt chambered in .30-06, particularly focusing on the upgrades of an aluminum bedding block and a Mastergun stock. I'm coming at this from the perspective of someone who hunts regularly and tinkers with their rifles quite a bit. Overall Impression Browning X-Bolt: The X-Bolt, out of the box, is a solid hunting rifle. Reliable, accurate enough for most hunting situations, and relatively lightweight. However, like most factory rifles, it has room for improvement, particularly in terms of consistency and feel. That's where the bedding block and the Mastergun stock came in. Browning X-Bolt (Base Rifle): Pros: Smooth Bolt Action: The 60-degree bolt lift is quick and easy, especially when you need a fast follow-up shot. It's definitely a step up from some of the more clunky bolt actions out there. Lightweight Browning X-Bolt: Carrying this rifle through the woods all day is manageable. It's a significant advantage for backcountry hunts where every ounce counts. Rotary Magazine Browning X-Bolt: The detachable rotary magazine is reliable and keeps the cartridges aligned well. It's also easy to load and unload. Good Accuracy (Out of the Box): For a factory rifle, the accuracy is decent. I was getting around 1.5 MOA with factory ammo, which is perfectly acceptable for deer and elk hunting at moderate ranges. Adjustable Trigger: The trigger is adjustable, which is a nice feature. However, it needed some tweaking to get it just right for my liking. Cons: Stock Browning X-Bolt: The factory stock felt a bit cheap and flimsy. There was noticeable flex, which likely impacted accuracy consistency. The ergonomics weren't fantastic either. This was the primary reason for upgrading to the Mastergun. Inconsistent Accuracy: While 1.5 MOA was good, it wasn't always consistent. Sometimes I'd get a tight group, other times it would open up. I suspected the stock and bedding were contributing to this. Price: X-Bolts are not cheap rifles. You are paying for the Browning name and reputation. Aluminum Bedding Block: Pros: Improved Consistency: This made a HUGE difference. By providing a solid and stable platform for the action, the bedding block eliminated the flexing and shifting that I was seeing with the factory stock. The action felt much more secure. Enhanced Accuracy: Groups tightened up noticeably. I was now consistently getting sub-MOA groups with handloads and premium factory ammo. Cons: Installation Required: You need to either install it yourself or have a gunsmith do it. It's not a drop-in part. Proper bedding is crucial for it to function correctly. I opted to have a gunsmith do it to ensure it was done right. Cost: Adding a bedding block adds to the overall cost of the rifle. Mastergun Stock: Pros: Superior Ergonomics: The Mastergun stock felt fantastic in my hands. The grip angle, the palm swell, and the overall shape were a significant improvement over the factory stock. It felt much more natural to shoulder and aim. Increased Rigidity: The Mastergun stock is much stiffer and more robust than the factory stock. This, combined with the bedding block, provided a rock-solid platform for the action. Aesthetically Pleasing: Let's be honest, the Mastergun stock looks great. It gives the rifle a more premium and custom feel. Improved Recoil Absorption The Mastergun stock does a good job of soaking up recoil, so you can enjoy the shot. Cons: Cost: These stocks are not cheap. It's a significant investment. Weight: The Mastergun stock is slightly heavier than the factory stock, which could be a concern for some hunters. However, the improved ergonomics and rigidity were worth the trade-off for me. Fitting: The stock had to be fitted to the rifle. This meant I had to see a gunsmith to get it properly fitted. Browning X-Bolt .30-06 Cartridge Choice: Pros: Versatile: The .30-06 is one of the most versatile cartridges ever created. It's capable of taking down everything from deer to elk to bear. Widely Available: Ammo is readily available everywhere, in a wide range of bullet weights and styles. Proven Performance: The .30-06 has been around for over a century and has a proven track record of effectiveness. Cons: Recoil: Recoil can be stout, especially with heavier bullets. A good recoil pad is essential. Trajectory: The trajectory isn't as flat as some of the newer, faster cartridges. Range estimation is important, especially at longer distances. Final Verdict: The Browning X-Bolt in .30-06, with the aluminum bedding block and Mastergun stock, is now a fantastic hunting rifle. The upgrades significantly improved accuracy, consistency, and overall feel. While the cost of the upgrades was considerable, the performance improvements were worth it. I would highly recommend these upgrades to anyone looking to get the most out of their X-Bolt. It's a rifle I now have complete confidence in for any hunting situation. #BrowningXBolt #3006 #AluminumBeddingBlock #MastergunStock #HuntingRifle #RifleReview #GunReview #Hunting #Firearms #AccurateRifle #RifleUpgrades #Gunsmithing

IPHA - International Professional Hunters' Association The International Professional Hunters' Association (IPHA) is a global organization of professional hunters, guides and hunting businesses around the world. Founded to promote ethical hunting standards, IPHA is dedicated to protecting the interests of professional hunters, supporting the sustainable use of natural resources and conserving wildlife. The association sets high standards for its members to ensure that hunting tours are conducted responsibly and professionally. The International Professional Hunters' Association (IPHA) is a globally recognized organization dedicated to promoting ethical hunting practices, supporting professional hunters, and advancing conservation efforts worldwide. Established in 1992, IPHA has become a leading voice in the hunting community, advocating for sustainable wildlife management and responsible hunting traditions. From its inception, IPHA focused on elevating the standards of professional hunting by providing comprehensive training programs, fostering international cooperation, and promoting conservation through hunting. Over the years, the association has expanded its reach beyond Africa IPHA boasts a diverse membership base, with over 4,000 members spread across more than 60 countries. Members include professional hunters, outfitters, guides, conservationists, and individuals passionate about hunting and wildlife management. This broad network enables IPHA to influence policies, share best practices, and promote sustainable hunting on an international scale. Membership in IPHA comes with numerous benefits, including access to exclusive training courses, networking opportunities, insurance services, and representation in legislative matters affecting the hunting industry. IPHA KEY IMPACTS Wildlife Management : Controlled hunting helps regulate animal populations, preventing overpopulation and reducing habitat destruction. For example, in areas where lion or elephant populations exceed carrying capacity, trophy hunting quotas are used to manage numbers sustainably. Conservation Funding : Revenue generated from hunting licenses, permits, and safaris contributes significantly to conservation efforts. In some African countries, hunting tourism provides critical funding for anti-poaching units, habitat restoration, and community development projects. Community Benefits : Many rural communities benefit economically from hunting activities. By employing locals as guides, trackers, and support staff, hunting operations create jobs and stimulate local economies. Additionally, meat from hunted animals often feeds families in nearby villages. Scientific Research : IPHA collaborates with researchers and wildlife organizations to gather data on species populations, migration patterns, and ecological dynamics. This information informs evidence-based conservation strategies. IPHA TRADITIONS OF ETHICAL HUNTING At its core, IPHA upholds the tradition of ethical hunting, emphasizing respect for animals, fair chase principles, and sustainable wildlife management. The association believes that hunting is not just a recreational activity but also a vital tool for conserving ecosystems and managing wildlife populations. Key aspects of IPHA's commitment to tradition include: Fair Chase Principles : Encouraging hunters to pursue their quarry in a manner that respects the animal and ensures a quick, humane kill. Cultural Heritage : Recognizing hunting as a deeply rooted cultural practice in many societies, IPHA works to preserve these traditions while adapting them to modern conservation needs. Education and Training : Offering rigorous certification programs for professional hunters to ensure they adhere to the highest ethical and technical standards. INTERESTING FACTS ABOUT IPHA • Global Reach : While headquartered in South Africa, IPHA operates globally, with members spanning continents such as Africa, North America, Europe, and Asia. This international presence allows the association to tackle global issues like illegal poaching and habitat loss. Training Excellence : IPHA offers one of the most respected professional hunter training programs in the world. Graduates must complete extensive coursework, fieldwork, and examinations before earning their certification. • Women in Hunting : IPHA actively supports women in the hunting industry, offering mentorship programs and resources to encourage female participation as professional hunters and conservationists. • Trophy Hunting Controversy : IPHA acknowledges the controversy surrounding trophy hunting but maintains that, when conducted ethically and sustainably, it can be a powerful tool for conservation. The association works tirelessly to dispel myths and educate the public about the benefits of regulated hunting. • Anti-Poaching Initiatives : IPHA partners with governments, NGOs, and law enforcement agencies to combat illegal poaching. Its members often serve as frontline defenders of endangered species, using their expertise to protect wildlife from criminal exploitation. • Sustainable Tourism : IPHA promotes hunting as a form of eco-tourism, encouraging travelers to experience the thrill of the hunt while contributing to conservation and local economies. The International Professional Hunters' Association (IPHA) stands at the intersection of tradition, ethics, and conservation. With over 4,000 members worldwide, it champions the cause of responsible hunting and sustainable wildlife management. Through education, advocacy, and collaboration, IPHA ensures that hunting remains a valuable tool for preserving biodiversity and supporting rural communities. As debates around hunting continue, IPHA serves as a beacon of professionalism and integrity, proving that ethical hunting can coexist with environmental stewardship. Bobr – SLAVA SKRIPKA The undoubted HIT of 2025. There aren't many hunting songs or video clips in the world. I think this is the hunters' new anthem.))) The song is in Russian with elements of Polish in the chorus. For those who do not understand Russian and Polish, some clarifying information: The guy sings about how he became friends with the beaver and how well they spend time together. The chorus is built in a reference to the meme "Beaver Kurwa", which blew up TikTok in April 2022. It was a video with a guy accidentally meets a beaver. He starts swearing in Polish from an overabundance of emotions.

German Hunting Union (DJV – Deutscher Jagdverband) The German Hunting Union (DJV) is the largest hunting organization in Germany, founded in 1949. DJV represents the interests of hunters, is engaged in nature conservation, the sustainable use of natural resources and the popularization of hunting traditions. The Union actively participates in the development of legislation related to hunting and wildlife protection, and also supports scientific research and educational programs for hunters. As of 2022/23, there were about 434,370 hunting license holders throughout Germany. As of 2019, there were 388,529 hunting license holders in Germany, including 27,190 women (7%). This means that the number of hunters in Germany is growing, and there is a significant increase in female hunters. The total area of the hunting grounds, i.e. the total area of all areas not belonging to the so-called peaceful areas and therefore suitable for hunting, is about 319,000 km2, which accounts for about 89% of the total area of Germany. Areas and hunting license holders are distributed among the individual federal states (lands). The German Hunting Association (DJV) was founded on 30 November 1949 as the German Hunting Protection Association in Bad Dürkheim as an association of the West German state hunting associations and organized around 70% of the approximately 100,000 hunting license holders in the Federal Republic at that time. The name was a deliberate link to the Allgemeine Deutscher Jagdschutz-Verein (ADJV), a hunting association founded in 1875, which was influenced by the German nobility and, at its dissolution in 1934, was last led by Alfons Prinz von Isenburg. The most important and ultimately achieved political goal of the DJV at the time of its foundation was the extensive incorporation of the Reich Hunting Act into the hunting law of the federation and the Länder. DJV Structure and Membership. The German Hunting Association (DJV for short, officially German Hunting Association – Association of German State Hunting Associations for the Protection of Game, Hunting and Nature) is a non-profit, registered association and the association of 15 German state hunting associations based in Berlin. Deutscher Jagdverband operates through a network of regional associations spread across Germany’s federal states (Länder). These branches organize events, provide resources, and represent local interests within the broader framework of the national union. Membership is open to individuals who share the values of ethical hunting and environmental responsibility. Through its regional hunting associations, the DJV had around 257,000 members in 2023. The state hunting associations are subdivided as independent organizations into district groups and Hegeringe. The DJV's primary mission is to preserve and promote responsible hunting traditions while ensuring the long-term sustainability of ecosystems. It emphasizes the importance of balancing human activities with the needs of wildlife and their habitats. Key objectives include: • Wildlife and Hunting Management. The DJV advocates for science-based approaches to managing animal populations, such as deer, wild boar, and other game species. This includes controlling population sizes to prevent overgrazing and habitat destruction. • German Conservation Efforts. By working closely with environmental groups, government agencies, and local communities, the DJV supports projects aimed at protecting endangered species and restoring natural habitats. • Hunting Education and Training. The organization places a strong emphasis on educating its members about ethical hunting practices, safety protocols, and ecological awareness. It also offers training programs for aspiring hunters to ensure they meet high standards before obtaining licenses. • Hunting Rights Policy Advocacy. As a lobbying group, the DJV engages actively in political discussions at both national and European levels. It strives to influence legislation that affects hunting rights, land use, and biodiversity conservation. Address: Deutscher e Jagdverband.V. 185/186 Friedrichstraße, 10117 Berlin, Germany. SHCHI – Russian Sauerkraut soup with wild meat and porcini mushrooms. This traditional Russian recipe, like many other recipes of Russian cuisine, may seem very strange. But believe me, Russians know a lot about winter warming soups. It just needs to be tried! This strange combination of seemingly incompatible ingredients creates the uniqueness of Russian cuisine, which is replete with nutritious and vitamin-rich dishes in the cold season. I got this unusual version of the traditional Russian soup as a result of an experiment that exceeded all expectations. I decided to add wild roe deer meat and porcini mushrooms to the classic cabbage soup recipe, which gave the dish a special tenderness and rich taste and make it a real hunting recipe. Russian sour cabbage soup, or SHCHI, that I prepared using wild roe deer meat hunted in Belarus, is a unique interpretation of this classic dish. To enhance the flavors, I added cranberries from the Nalibokskaya Pushcha, known for their vibrant taste and color, which gave the soup an extraordinary tangy note. In addition, cranberries have given this soup a Belarusian flavor. My Grandmother always adds cranberries, it’s family secret ingredient))) For an extra depth of flavor, I incorporated frozen porcini mushrooms that I personally foraged in the forests of Moscow Oblast. If you freeze porcini mushrooms whole, they do not lose their delicate taste at all. The combination of these natural ingredients created a rich, complex taste profile that goes beyond traditional shchi. The process began with creating a flavorful broth from the roe deer meat, which lent the soup its distinct game flavor. The sour cabbage, made by my Mom, served as the foundation, providing its characteristic tanginess, while the cranberries added a touch of candy aftertaste and doubled acidity. The white mushrooms brought earthy undertones, tying all the elements together. Do not forget to fry onions, meat and mushrooms for such type of Russian soups like SHCHI or BORSCH. The sugars contained in them are caramelized at high temperatures. And after, that sweet taste resists the acid of the cabbage, making the taste of the broth voluminous. And the greens! Well, the greens (onion, dill, parsley) MUST be from Caucasus, of course. Nowhere in the world I have seen such fragrant greens as those that are brought to us from our mountainous republics. This version of shchi is not only a celebration of Russian culinary traditions but also a testament to the bounty of nature found in both Belarus and Russia. Each spoonful tells a story of the forest's gifts, making it a truly memorable dish that reflects the seasons and the regions' rich natural resources. It’s a perfect example of how traditional recipes can be elevated with locally hunting ingredients.

ATA Arms SP 12ga (710mm Barrel) Review Alright, here's an honest and hopefully helpful take on the ATA Arms SP 12 gauge with a 710mm barrel, from a perspective of someone who's spent some decent time in the field and at the range: Having put a fair few shells through the ATA Arms SP, I think I can offer a reasonably balanced review. Full disclosure: I'm not a sponsored shooter or anything like that, just a hunter who appreciates a decent tool. The Good: Value for Money: This is where the ATA Arms SP really shines. You're getting a lot of shotgun for the price point. It's a solid, functional over-under that's significantly cheaper than some of the bigger European brands. For a beginner looking to get into clay shooting or bird hunting without breaking the bank, it's a very appealing option. Reliability: In my experience, the action has been reliably smooth. Ejection's been positive, and I haven't had any major mechanical failures so far. I've put a mix of light target loads and heavier game loads through it, and it's handled them all without complaint. This is definitely a significant strong point of the gun. Handling (with caveats): With the 710mm barrel, it swings relatively well, especially for a gun in this price range. The overall balance is decent, though may need adjusting depending on the user. Fit and Finish (Generally): The wood is generally decent for a gun at this price point with some nice figuring in the grain. It's not exhibition grade, but it's aesthetically pleasing and seems durable enough. The bluing on the barrels is also well done. Versatility: Being a 12 gauge, you can use it for virtually anything - although it is on the heavier side for long days or walks. Upland bird hunting, clay shooting, even some medium game applications are very doable. The Not-So-Good: Fit and Finish (Details): While the overall fit and finish are good for the price, the devil is in the details. The checkering on the stock, while functional, feels a little rough and manufactured. There can also be the occasional cosmetic imperfection. Trigger: The trigger is okay, but distinctly average. There's a bit of creep and overtravel, and it's by no means crisp. It's something you can get used to, but it's not going to win any awards and makes it a bit harder to shoot tight patterns when at the range. Recoil: Being a lighter gun in a 12 gauge, you'll feel the recoil more noticeably. This can be mitigated with heavier clothing and with the right stock fit. Customer Support: While ATA Arms shotguns are generally reliable, finding parts and service if something does go wrong can be trickier than with more established brands, especially if you're located outside major metropolitan areas. The ATA Arms SP 12 gauge is a solid, no-frills shotgun that offers excellent value for the money. It's a great choice for someone seeking a first over-under, or a reliable and affordable field gun. #ATAArms #Shotgun #12Gauge #Hunting #ClayShoot

How many hunters in the world? While the number of hunters varies widely across countries, hunting remains an important cultural, economic, and ecological activity worldwide. Understanding the demographics and ratios of hunters provides valuable insights into how this ancient practice continues to evolve in response to modern challenges and opportunities. Hunting is a deeply rooted cultural practice in many countries, serving both recreational and subsistence purposes. However, the number of hunters and their demographic profiles vary significantly across nations, influenced by factors such as geography, tradition, legislation, and societal attitudes toward hunting. Below is an exploration of hunter demographics and ratios per population in select countries. So in the USA, 3.5% of the population is fond of hunting. In neighboring Canada, it is twice more (7%) if you count per capita. Finland is the leader in Europe in terms of the number of hunters among the population, with almost 6%, but the population is not so big and it gives ~300.000 hunters. The vast majority of European hunters live in Russia, France and Spain. The data and counting systems are very different, in the USA a lot of attention is paid to these studies, and every 5 years you can study a new detailed report. I couldn't find any statistics on hunters from Asia at all. Despite the fact that not very many countries have accurate hunting statistics, but If we extrapolate the data… We can conclude that the Global Prevalence of Hunting takes Around 3% of the World Population. Hunting, a practice rooted in human history and culture, continues to be an important activity for millions of people worldwide. While participation rates vary significantly across countries and regions, studies and estimates suggest that around 3% of the global population actively engages in hunting . This figure encompasses both recreational hunters and those who rely on hunting for subsistence or wildlife management purposes. In many nations, particularly in rural areas, hunting remains a vital part of daily life, providing food, income, and a connection to nature. For example, in countries like the United States, Canada, and Norway, hunting is deeply ingrained in cultural traditions, with approximately 3-4% of the population holding active hunting licenses. Similarly, European nations such as Austria and France report similar ratios, where hunting plays a key role in conservation efforts and wildlife population control. The table below shows data on the number of hunters in different countries. I consider this sample to be very representative and interesting to study.

PHASA – Professional Hunters' Association of South Africa. Slogan: We make sure that your dream of a wonderful and successful African Safari is delivered. PHASA is the only association in South Africa with the core and sole business of serving the professional hunting industry. Professional Hunters' Association expertise and vast network in the global hunting fraternity are unparalleled in South Africa. SA Hunters' Association continuously work with government at all levels, including ministerial level, and across a number of departments, to shape the future of our industry. The Hunters Association of South Africa (PHASA) is the leading organization representing professional hunters and hunting enterprises in South Africa. Founded in 1976, PHASA is dedicated to promoting ethical and sustainable hunting, protecting the interests of hunters, and preserving wildlife. The Association sets strict standards for professional hunters and hunting operators to ensure responsible use of natural resources and support for local communities. PHASA’s MISSION AND VISION: Professional Hunters' Association mission is to uphold the highest standards of professionalism, ethics, and sustainability in the hunting industry. The association strives to ensure that hunting remains a tool for conservation rather than exploitation. Its vision is to position South Africa as a global leader in responsible wildlife management and ethical hunting practices. By fostering collaboration between hunters, conservationists, landowners, and government bodies, PHASA works toward creating a balanced ecosystem where wildlife thrives alongside human development. PHASA’s CORE OBJECTIVES: Promoting Ethical Hunting Practices : PHASA emphasizes the importance of fair chase principles, which dictate that animals should have a reasonable chance of escape during hunts. This ensures respect for wildlife and prevents unnecessary suffering. Advancing Conservation Efforts : A significant portion of PHASA’s work focuses on supporting conservation initiatives. Revenue generated from hunting safaris often funds anti-poaching efforts, habitat restoration, and wildlife research projects. Supporting Local Communities : PHASA encourages community involvement in wildlife management programs. By involving local populations in hunting operations, the association helps create jobs, generate income, and foster a sense of ownership over natural resources. Education and Training : PHASA provides comprehensive training programs for aspiring professional hunters, game rangers, and safari operators. These courses cover topics such as wildlife biology, tracking skills, firearm safety, and ethical conduct. Lobbying and Advocacy : As a representative body, PHASA actively engages with policymakers to advocate for regulations that support sustainable hunting practices while protecting endangered species. Community Involvement: PHASA recognizes the importance of empowering local communities through wildlife tourism and hunting enterprises. Many rural areas rely heavily on income generated from hunting safaris, which provides funding for schools, clinics, infrastructure development, and employment opportunities. By prioritizing community engagement, PHASA ensures that the benefits of wildlife resources are shared equitably. South Africa believes that hunting, if properly managed, can play a crucial role in wildlife conservation. For example, revenue from trophy hunting has been instrumental in conserving species like the Cape buffalo, sable antelope, and black wildebeest, whose populations have stabilized or increased due to well-regulated hunting programs. PHASA supports this concept by: • Encouraging the reintroduction of species into areas where they were previously extinct. Funding anti-poaching units to combat illegal wildlife trade. • Promoting ecotourism and sustainable land-use practices that benefit both wildlife and people. Supporting scientific research to better understand animal behavior, population dynamics, and habitat needs. The Professional Hunters' Association of South Africa (PHASA) plays a vital role in shaping the future of wildlife management and ethical hunting in the region. Through its commitment to conservation, education, and community empowerment, PHASA demonstrates that hunting can coexist with environmental stewardship. By advocating for sustainable practices and upholding high ethical standards, PHASA continues to lead the way in preserving South Africa's extraordinary natural heritage for generations to come.
