National Geographic.
SCI 2025 in Nashville, TN
I attended Safari Club International (SCI) 2025, which took place from January 22 to January 25 in Nashville, Tennessee. This event left vivid impressions.
Exhibition: A variety of exhibits from leading manufacturers of hunting weapons. The latest models of rifles and shotguns have attracted special attention. Participants could get acquainted with the technical specifications and even test some samples.
Taxidermy: The stands with taxidermic exhibits deserved special attention. The high craftsmanship and realism of the work were impressive. The exhibition featured both classic trophies and creative compositions.
Weapons: The latest developments in the field of hunting weapons are presented. Innovative technologies, improved materials and ergonomic design made these models attractive to anyone who enjoys hunting.
The SCI 2025 exhibition in Nashville was full of interesting exhibits and allowed me to learn a lot about modern hunting equipment and trophies. I recommend this event to all hunting enthusiasts and trophy collectors.

• Groupe requis : minimum 10 chasseurs, maximum 20

Review of the Night Optics D-930 Gen 3ST Scope
As an avid hunter with several seasons under my belt, I recently upgraded to the Night Optics D-930 Gen 3ST scope, and I have to say this piece of equipment has been a game changer for me. Here’s my honest take on it, complete with its strengths and weaknesses.
Pros:
Exceptional Clarity: The Gen 3 technology really shines in low-light conditions, which is crucial during those early mornings or late evenings when game is most active. The clarity and brightness of the image are impressive, allowing me to spot my targets at great distances with relative ease.
Durable Build: This scope feels sturdy and well-made. It's designed to withstand the rigors of hunting, from rainy weather to rugged terrain. I’ve taken it on various trips and haven't had any issues with durability.
User-Friendly Controls: The adjustments for brightness and clarity are straightforward and intuitive. I appreciate the easy-to-use controls, especially in the heat of the moment when quick adjustments can be the difference between a successful hunt and going home empty-handed.
Good Battery Life: I was pleasantly surprised by how long the battery lasts. For a night vision scope, this is vital. I’ve gone on multiple trips without needing to change the battery, which gives me peace of mind.
Versatility: The D-930 Gen 3ST excels not just in hunting but also for surveillance and nighttime observation. This versatility makes it a great investment for anyone interested in outdoor activities at night.
Cons:
Weight: One downside I’ve noticed is the scope's weight compared to some of the lighter options available. If you're trekking long distances, this might start to feel cumbersome. A lighter design would be more appealing for extended trips.
Price Point: While the quality justifies a higher price tag, it is still a considerable investment. For novice hunters or those on a tight budget, it may not be the most accessible option.
Learning Curve: For someone new to night vision scopes, there might be a bit of a learning curve. Getting accustomed to how the scope functions and optimally adjusting it can take a little time. However, once you’ve got it down, it's worth it.
Limited Range in Daylight: Although it performs exceptionally well at night, the scope is not as effective in bright daylight conditions. If you typically hunt during the day, you might want to consider an optical scope specifically designed for that environment.
Overall, the Night Optics D-930 Gen 3ST has exceeded my expectations as a nighttime hunting tool. It's a fantastic investment if you're serious about night hunting and want to enhance your capabilities in low-light conditions. The pros far outweigh the cons, in my opinion, but just be mindful of what you’re looking for in a scope before making your purchase.

Islay and Jura kids feast on venison for school dinners
In a UK first, young people on two of Scotland’s islands are feasting on local wild venison, with the meat being added to school menus on Islay and Jura.
The pilot project is a collaboration between the council and Wild Jura, a new business founded by local business people Cath and Andy McCallum.
Recognising the high demand for local venison on the islands, they established Wild Jura to include commercial butchery and processing facilities, enabling local communities to enjoy the bounty on their doorstep.
The wild venison comes from Ardlussa, Barnhill, Tarbert and Ruantallain Estates.
Children from Small Isles Primary on Jura played a key role in product testing, with their favourite dishes—wild venison meatballs and burgers—now featured on the school menu.
Venison is a nutrient-dense food, rich in protein and low in saturated fat, making it a healthy addition to school meals. The new menu items are available in Jura and Islay Primary Schools and Islay High School.
What the children said:
‘Having venison for the first time in school was great, and everyone absolutely loved it!’ - Ruby
‘I loved the venison burger because it was so good and tasted amazing. It was also great to be part of the taste testing!’ - Joseph
"At first I wasn’t a big fan of venison but tasting the burgers and meatballs has completely changed my view.' - Grace
‘It’s the best burger’ - Rosie
‘I loved it! It was the first time I tried it!’ - Poppy
‘9/10, it was very tasty’ - Matthew

THE WARTHOG IS A DANGEROUS BEAST.
After the release of the Disney animated buddy comedy, The Lion King and The Lion King's Timon & Pumbaa. Where Timon and Pumbaa, the warthog and the meerkat were responsible for the humorous line, many decided that wild animals can be really cute and funny…
In the video, people who have no experience interacting with wild animals are feeding a warthog. At the moment when she tries to stroke him, the warthog cuts through the woman's skin and muscles in the area where the femoral artery passes. Judging by the huge amount of blood that flowed out of the wound in a few seconds, it is more than likely that the warthog's tusk could have cut through part of this important vessel responsible for transporting blood from the heart to the leg. Such injuries, without urgent hospitalization, will lead to dizziness, loss of consciousness and even, in critical cases, death of the victim.
Warthogs are not as cute as in the Disney cartoons. They are wild and dangerous animals. Warthogs reach 145-190 cm in length and 65-85 cm in height with a weight of 50-150 kg. The bristles are mostly sparse, of a monotonous gray color. A mane is formed on the neck and back, and there are some kind of sideburns on the muzzle; there is a tassel at the tip of the tail. The upturned canines of the upper jaw are distinguished by their large size: in some males, the length of the canines can exceed 50 cm.
As for the canine warthog, the record specimen with the longest canines, currently registered by the International Safari Club, was caught in Ethiopia in January 1984, that is, four decades ago. The measurements of the canines they gave were 48.5 centimeters on the left and 47.3 centimeters on the right.
Do not feed wild animals, do not try to pet or play with them. It can really be deadly.

A long time ago in a galaxy far, far away...
‘Field and Stream’ has been the preeminent American outdoors publication for over a century with a current monthly circulation exceeding 1,000,000. It was the outgrowth of a periodical entitled ‘Northwestern Field and Stream’ which was first published in St Paul Minnesota in 1895. A year later, John P Burkhard acquired this publication, renamed it, and dubbed it “A Journal for the True Sportsman”. As his first editor, Burkhard hired Charles Hallock, stealing him away from ‘Forest and Stream’, the leading outdoor magazine of the time which had been published regularly since 1873 but was eventually absorbed in 1930 by the increasingly popular ‘Field and Stream’.
Hunting, fishing and camping were, and continue to be, the strongest focuses of the magazine. There have been more than 150 covers depicting the various forms of fishing, and many are specifically about fly fishing.

The BooneandCrockettClub is an organization of hunters and conservationists. It was founded in 1887 by Theodore Roosevelt. The Club's merit lies not only in the invention of the basic formula of “fairchase” for hunting ethics, but also in the foundation of the system of nature protection in the United States, which is now known as the North American Model of Wildlife Conservation.
Today, the club is best known for creating a data collection system that evaluates and tracks North America's major endemic species as a measure of conservation success.

Hunters From California report that a safe is good when it really saves.
Wildfires in Southern California are a frequent phenomenon, one might say, as common as winter snow in Alaska. The "dry season" lasts an average of six months without any raindrop. Dry grass or forest catches fire, and the wind spreads the flames like lightning.
There is not enough fresh water in California. Households often limit their water consumption. It is forbidden to grow vegetables on the territory of the house, because they need to be watered.
These problems have been around for many, many years. WHY is the scale of fires increasing every year? And why did the fire take on the scale of a national disaster in January 2025?
Experts compete to calculate the damage. The damage caused by fires in Los Angeles today already amounts to 135-150 billion dollars. Someone claims 200 billion or even more. Everyone is discussing the cost of celebs and politicians houses that were burned down or remained unharmed.
But for some reason, nobody talk today that California is the richest state in the United States in terms of species diversity of flora and fauna. And it suffered most of all. Several different climatic zones — from the temperate mountains in the north to the California desert and from the coastal mountains to the arid chaparral — contribute to this abundance of animals.
California boasts a diverse ecosystem that includes many terrestrial creatures such as raccoons, weasels, otters, beavers, hawks, lizards, owls, coyotes, skunks, snakes, cougars, black bears, deer, squirrels and many others. What happened to them? What is the damage? And how it can be restored.
In Czech Republic, you can feel like Snow White just by going out to feed ducks on a riverside.
There really is a lot of game in the Czech Republic, but hunting is interesting there not so much because of this, but because of traditions. They also strictly adhere to the laws of hunters.
Czech forests are overrun by wild boars, which continue to multiply beyond measure. According to hunters, the wild boars have become more aggressive than before. In addition, they use their intelligence to come up with new survival strategies. Boar hunting is no longer considered a hunt, but rather a salvation for trees and even cities. Despite the mass shooting, there are more and more wild boars in the Czech Republic. Animals also appear in cities, including Prague.
Wild boar in the Czech Republic is a real national disaster. The wild boar hunting season is the longest, and in some small reserves, such as Blahnik and Koda, it is open all year round. The population of wild boars is growing every year, they cause significant damage to agriculture, and hunting them is very popular.
The Czech Republic is home to many animals and birds, whose numbers are growing due to the proper use of natural resources and good ecology. As the number of wild animals increases, hunting seasons become longer. In total, 817 hunting grounds and 30 nature reserves are at the disposal of hunting tourists. The fact is that there are practically no predators in the Czech Republic, because all small game exists in huge numbers. And hunting practically does not close during the year.
In the protected forests of the Central Bohemian region, where kings once hunted, almost all breeds of European deer can be found, and in the labyrinths of Rocky towns there are mouflons, the famous American white-tailed and Manchurian spotted deer. In the Krzyvoklatsko Nature Reserve, you can find white or silver-gray European red deer.
There are also many roe deer in the Central Bohemian region. With an increase in population, these graceful animals cause great damage to the Czech flora, including more than a hundred species listed in the Red Book — roe deer hunters are warmly welcomed here.
One of the Czechs' favorite types of hunting is pheasant hunting, often called royal hunting. Partly because there is certainly a castle in the depths of the hunting grounds, where hunters can have a royal rest, partly because of the number of trophies: pheasants are shot by tens of thousands during the hunting season.
And one more important hunting sign. If there is certainly a hunting castle in the depths of the most beautiful hunting grounds, where you can stay and get a royal vacation… You certainly hunt in Czech Republic!

Honest Review of the Swarovski Optik Z6i 2-12x50 (with Ballistic Turret and Illumination)
I used a variety of scopes over the years, I recently had the opportunity to test the Swarovski Optik Z6i 2-12x50 with a ballistic turret and illuminated reticle. Here’s my detailed take on this high-end optic, including its strengths and weaknesses.
Pros:
Optical Clarity:
The glass quality is simply outstanding. Swarovski is renowned for its optics, and the Z6i 2-12x50 lives up to the brand's reputation. The image is razor-sharp, with exceptional brightness and color fidelity, even in low-light conditions. Whether I was hunting at dawn or dusk, the clarity was unmatched.
Versatile Magnification Range:
The 2-12x magnification range is perfect for a variety of hunting scenarios. At 2x, it provides a wide field of view for close-range shots in dense terrain, while 12x offers enough zoom for precise long-range shots. This versatility makes it a great all-around scope.
Ballistic Turret:
The ballistic turret is a game-changer for long-range shooting. It’s easy to adjust and provides precise elevation corrections. Once zeroed, I found it incredibly reliable for making quick adjustments in the field.
Illuminated Reticle:
The illuminated reticle is a fantastic feature, especially in low-light conditions. The brightness settings are adjustable, and the illumination is crisp without overpowering the target. It’s a huge advantage when hunting in dense forests or during twilight hours.
Build Quality:
The scope feels robust and well-built. It’s waterproof, fog-proof, and shockproof, which is essential for hunting in harsh environments. I’ve used it in rain and snow, and it performed flawlessly.
Ease of Use:
The controls are intuitive and easy to operate, even with gloves on. The turrets have a solid, tactile feel, and the illumination dial is conveniently placed.
Cons:
Price:
Let’s be honest—this scope is expensive. While the quality justifies the cost for serious hunters, it’s not an option for those on a tight budget.
Weight:
At 23.8 ounces (675 grams), it’s not the lightest scope on the market. For hunters who prioritize ultralight gear, this might be a drawback.
Learning Curve for Ballistic Turret:
While the ballistic turret is a great feature, it does require some practice to master. If you’re not familiar with ballistic calculations, it might take time to fully utilize its potential.
Limited Reticle Options:
The reticle options are somewhat limited compared to other high-end scopes. While the available reticles are excellent, some hunters might prefer more variety.
Battery Life:
The illuminated reticle is fantastic, but the battery life could be better. I found myself replacing the battery more often than I’d like, especially during extended hunting trips.
The Swarovski Optik Z6i 2-12x50 is a top-tier hunting scope that delivers exceptional performance in the field.

Honest Review of the Sabatti Rover 870 in .308 Win with a 560mm Barrel
As an avid hunter, I’ve had the opportunity to test the Sabatti Rover 870 in .308 Win with a 560mm barrel, paired with the Pulsar Digisight Ultra N455 LRF scope. Here’s my detailed take on this setup, including its strengths and weaknesses.
Pros:
Accuracy (Sub-MOA Performance):
The Sabatti Rover 870 is a true performer when it comes to accuracy. With the .308 Win caliber and a 560mm barrel, I consistently achieved sub-MOA groups at 100 meters. This level of precision is exceptional for a hunting rifle, especially when paired with quality ammunition.
Build Quality:
The rifle is solidly built, with a robust action and a well-finished stock. The ergonomics are comfortable, and the weight distribution makes it easy to handle, even during extended hunting sessions.
Versatility:
The .308 Win caliber is a proven choice for medium to large game, and the Sabatti Rover 870 handles it beautifully. Whether I was hunting deer or boar, the rifle delivered consistent performance.
Compatibility with Optics:
The Pulsar Digisight Ultra N455 LRF scope is a game-changer. Its thermal imaging and rangefinder capabilities allowed me to hunt effectively in low-light conditions and at longer ranges. The integration with the Sabatti Rover 870 was seamless, and the scope’s reticle adjustments were precise.
Recoil Management:
Despite the .308 Win’s power, the rifle’s recoil is manageable, thanks to its well-designed stock and weight. This made follow-up shots quicker and more accurate.
Cons:
Weight:
While the weight contributes to stability and recoil management, it can be a drawback for hunters who need to cover long distances on foot. The Sabatti Rover 870 is not the lightest rifle in its class, which might be a concern for some.
Price:
The Sabatti Rover 870 is not a budget-friendly option. When combined with a high-end scope like the Pulsar Digisight Ultra N455 LRF, the total cost can be prohibitive for casual hunters.
Barrel Length:
The 560mm barrel is excellent for accuracy but can feel cumbersome in dense brush or tight hunting blinds. A shorter barrel might be more practical for certain hunting scenarios.
Scope Dependency:
While the Pulsar Digisight Ultra N455 LRF is an outstanding scope, it’s essential to note that the rifle’s performance at longer ranges heavily relies on such high-quality optics. Without a premium scope, the rifle’s long-range capabilities might not be fully realized.
The Sabatti Rover 870 in .308 Win with a 560mm barrel is a top-tier hunting rifle that delivers exceptional accuracy and reliability. When paired with the Pulsar Digisight Ultra N455 LRF, it becomes a formidable tool for precision hunting, especially in challenging conditions. If you’re a serious hunter looking for a rifle that combines precision, durability, and versatility, the Sabatti Rover 870 is an excellent choice. #Sabatti
The Labrador Retriever: The Ultimate Hunting Companion
The Labrador Retriever is one of the most popular dog breeds in the world, and for good reason. Known for their intelligence, loyalty, and friendly nature, Labradors are not only great family pets but also exceptional hunting dogs. Whether you're a seasoned hunter or just starting out, a Labrador can be your perfect partner in the field. In this article, we’ll explore the Labrador’s hunting capabilities, their characteristics, how to care for them, and how to train them for hunting.
What Can a Labrador Hunt?
Labrador Retrievers are versatile hunting dogs, primarily bred for retrieving game. Their strong sense of smell, stamina, and eagerness to please make them ideal for various types of hunting. Here’s what they excel at:
Waterfowl Hunting: Labradors are natural swimmers, thanks to their water-resistant coat and webbed feet. They are excellent at retrieving ducks, geese, and other waterfowl from lakes, rivers, and marshes.
Upland Game Birds: Labradors can also hunt pheasants, quail, and grouse. Their ability to track scent and flush out birds makes them a valuable asset in upland hunting.
Small Game: While not as common, Labradors can be trained to hunt small game like rabbits or squirrels. Their retrieving instincts make them great at bringing back smaller prey.
Labradors are not typically used for big game hunting, as their size and temperament are better suited for retrieving rather than tracking or holding large animals.
How to Care for a Hunting Labrador
Diet: A high-protein diet is essential for maintaining their energy levels. Look for dog food formulated for active breeds or working dogs.
Exercise: Labradors are high-energy dogs that require regular exercise. Daily walks, runs, or play sessions are a must to keep them physically and mentally stimulated.
Grooming: Their coat is relatively low-maintenance, but regular brushing helps remove dirt and loose hair. After hunting trips, check their paws, ears, and coat for debris or injuries.
Health Checkups: Regular vet visits are crucial to ensure your Labrador is in peak hunting condition. Pay attention to joint health, as Labradors are prone to hip and elbow dysplasia
The Labrador Retriever is a remarkable hunting dog, combining intelligence, athleticism, and a strong work ethic. Whether you’re hunting waterfowl, upland game birds, or small game, a well-trained Labrador can be an invaluable companion. By understanding their characteristics, providing proper care, and investing time in training, you can unlock their full potential as a hunting partner. With patience and dedication, your Labrador will not only excel in the field but also become a beloved member of your family.

Pulsar Thermion 2 LRF XG50 Thermal Scope Review
As a seasoned hunter, I have had the opportunity to use various thermal scopes, and the Pulsar Thermion 2 LRF XG50 stands out in several significant ways. Let’s take a detailed look at my experiences, detailing both the advantages and disadvantages of this impressive piece of technology.
Pros
Exceptional Image Quality: The clarity of the thermal images provided by the XG50 is remarkable. The 640x480 resolution with a refresh rate of 50 Hz ensures that I can spot heat signatures even at considerable distances. This capability is crucial during nighttime hunts, where identifying your target can make or break your outing.
Integrated Laser Rangefinder: One of the standout features of the Thermion 2 is its laser rangefinder. This built-in tool allows for quick and accurate distance measurements, enabling me to make more informed shooting decisions. The rangefinder performs well in various conditions, and this convenience is a significant plus when out in the field.
Durability and Design: The scope boasts a robust build that can withstand the rigors of outdoor use. Its IPX7 waterproof rating gives me peace of mind during rainy conditions. Aside from ruggedness, the sleek design and lightweight nature make it easy to mount on my rifle without adding unnecessary bulk.
User-Friendly Interface: I appreciate how intuitive the user interface is. Switching between different modes (like white hot and black hot) can be done effortlessly, allowing me to adapt quickly to my surrounding environment. The manual is straightforward, and I found it easy to adjust settings on-the-fly.
Long Battery Life: The Thermion 2 LRF XG50 offers extended battery life, which is critical during long hunting expeditions. It can last several hours on a single charge, and there’s an option to add an external battery pack for even more extended use.
Cons
Price Point: One of the most significant drawbacks is the price. The Thermion 2 is quite an investment, and while I believe it’s worth the money for serious hunters, casual users might find it a bit steep.
Learning Curve: While the interface is user-friendly, there’s still a notable learning curve, especially for those who have never used a thermal scope before. It took me some time to familiarize myself with all the features and settings available, which might be overwhelming for beginners.
Weight: Although it’s relatively lightweight compared to some other thermal scopes, I found that after several hours of carrying it, it began to feel a bit cumbersome. For long-distance trekking, this could be a potential issue for those who prefer lighter setups.
Variable Performance in Extreme Cold: While the Thermion 2 performs exceptionally well in moderate conditions, I noticed that it could lag somewhat in extremely cold environments. This could be a downside for hunters who hunt in harsh winter climates, as the performance varied more than I expected.
