Cyclists hospitalised after hornet attack in France What are hornets? Hornets are the largest of the wasp family native to Europe. Like bees, hornets live in large colonies with a single queen and thousands of workers and build their nests from tree fibres. While hornets usually prefer to avoid contact with humans, they will sting as a defence mechanism in response to having their nest disturbed, and can be aggressive near their food source too. Hornets hunt insects like beetles, moths, dragonflies and wasps. They will also eat rotting fruit they might find on the ground.Post: 9 August 18:21
Hunting- sport that involves the seeking, pursuing, and killing of wild animals and birds, called game and game birds, primarily in modern times with firearms but also with bow and arrow. In Great Britain and western Europe, hunting is the term employed for the taking of wild animals with the aid of hounds that hunt by scent, whereas the sport of taking small game and game birds with a gun is known as shooting. In the United States and elsewhere, the term hunting is used for both hunting and shooting. In fox hunting, the kill is made by the hounds. Post: 8 July 21:01

Alaska offers a variety of hunting opportunities, many of them world class. The options include taking kids grouse or hare hunting along back roads in the Interior, filling the freezer with muskox, or conducting a once-in-a-lifetime brown bear or mountain goat hunt in the Southeast rainforest or along the Southcentral coast. Some species, such as caribou and moose, are widely distributed across much of the state. However, depending on the month, animals may be scarce even where good habitat exists, but abundant elsewhere. Many big game species in Alaska make long migrations between their seasonal ranges. The keys to hunting successfully are careful planning and thorough preparation.Post: 20 November 09:47
One of my favorite (and there are many) parts of our trips to South Africa is going to different places, hunting incredible animals, meeting and spending time with new friends, and seeing really cool things. Last year was no exception when we went for a very memorable hunt for a Blue Springbok, culling some Blesbok, getting to hold the oldest gun I’ve ever seen in this toradar from the 17th or 18th century, drinking some fantastic brandy with our host, and doing it all with my beautiful wife Ale’ on our honeymoon. Another great memory from last year with Shaun Keeny Safari's. — in Gauteng.Post: 8 May 09:09
Comre’ was stunning and our perfect guide Richard made the journey so much fun. The first two days it rained, and I couldn’t get anything on my list, but my grandpa did, taking an amazing heavy black wildebeest. It took some chasing to get it to the right spot, but just as the sun was setting, he was able to take it. We woke up the next day to rain again, but that was okay because we were still able to go out and hunt, and I was able to shoot my first animal with one shot. I was lucky enough to get a very old, but beautiful white blesbok.Post: 26 March 18:23

Estonian Hunters’ Society It is known that the first hunting organizations in Estonia were established in 1869 in Pärnu. A turning point in the development of hunting in Estonia was the adoption of the Hunting Act in 1934. Hunting organizations were constantly appearing and in 1967 the Estonian Hunters' Union was formed, whose members are now the majority of Estonian hunters who take care of game and hunt in about 85% of Estonian hunting grounds. EJS deals with public relations, legislative proposals, hunting tourism, hunting economy, hunter education, hunting shooting, hunting dogs, hunting trophies, organizes meetings, etc. EJS publishes the only Estonian hunting magazine Eesti Jahimees. New state-issued park permit limits hunting opportunities at New York nature preserve New York State has issued a new use permit for a nature preserve in Saratoga County that is popular with waterfowl hunters, leaving in place a one-week duck hunting season and prompting proponents of hunting on the property to ponder their next move to seek more hunting opportunities. The new permit for Vischer Ferry Nature Preserve in the Town of Clifton Park comes on the heels of a change to town law that further restricts the possession of firearms on the property after hunters indicated they planned to hunt navigable waters on the preserve as federal law allows, and not abide by the one-week season set by the town.Post: 29 November 18:04
In Kazakhstan and Kyrgyzstan, and before, and now they hunt with the help of golden eagles. These birds tamed by man are excellent hunter's assistants. There are even competitions for the extraction of a fox or a hare with the help of a golden eagle. Such hunters are called berkutchi. There are about a hundred of them in Kazakhstan. Scientists during the excavations found the bones of golden eagles in the sites of primitive people. Thus, archaeological sensations proved that fishing for small animals with the help of birds of prey was popular among the Turkic peoples three millennia ago. This ancient method of hunting was described in detail in the book of the traveler from Venice, Marco Polo, who lived in the thirteenth century.Post: 31 May 14:03
Horns? Or feathers? The great horned owl gets its name from the tufts of feathers on its head that look like ears. But the owl's ears are really farther down on the side of its head, and are just openings in the skull hidden beneath feathers. Its large eyes let it see in almost complete darkness, and if there is no light at all, its excellent hearing helps it hunt by sound. Owls are stealth hunters; they can easily sneak up on their prey since their fluffy feathers give them almost silent flight. When it finds prey, it dives and snatches it with its long, sharp talons. Great horned owls are very strong and can carry animals several times heavier than themselves! Post: 4 October 18:18
In general, the most common hunting dogs are scent hounds or gun dogs. Gun dogs: Often called bird dogs as that is their primary prey, these dogs also sometimes hunt smaller animals, such as rabbits. A gun dog is used to locate prey and flush it out for the hunter to shoot. The dog usually retrieves the quarry for the hunter. Scent hounds: This dog follows prey trails with its nose, making a lot of noise while running after it. The dog's calls enable the hunter to follow the trail even when the dog is out of sight. Some scent hounds focus on pursuing prey. Others are "treeing" dogs that chase the prey up a tree and wait at the base until hunters arrive. Post: 31 May 15:58
