Veber Wolf2 5-30x56 Day Scope Review I recently had the opportunity to test out the Veber Wolf2 5-30x56 day scope, and I am excited to share my thoughts on this product. As an avid shooter and hunter, I've used a variety of optics over the years, and I always appreciate the chance to assess new equipment. The Veber Wolf2 is a versatile scope designed for both hunting and shooting sports, but does it hold up against the competition? Here’s my in-depth evaluation: Build Quality and Design: The first thing I noticed about the Veber Wolf2 5-30x56 is its robust build. This scope is constructed with high-quality materials, featuring a hard anodized finish that gives it a rugged appearance while also providing protection against scratches and corrosion. The 30mm tube allows for a good amount of light transmission and is equipped with solid turrets that give a satisfying click when adjusted, indicating that they are both precise and easy to use. Optical Performance: Optical clarity is cr

U.S. Chief Inspector of Hunting George A. with a confiscated 10.9-inch and 250-pound rifle that was used to hunt ducks. 1920. A punt gun is a type of extremely large shotgun used in the 19th and early 20th centuries for shooting large numbers of waterfowl for commercial harvesting operations and private sport. A single shot could kill over 50 waterfowl resting on the water’s surface. The Tale of George A. and the Giant Rifle In 1920, Chief Inspector of Hunting George A. Thompson lived in Millbrook, Illinois. Known for his strict enforcement of wildlife laws, George was dedicated to protecting migratory birds. One day, he received a tip about illegal duck hunting. Upon reaching the marsh, George heard an unusually loud gunshot. He discovered a monstrous rifle—10.9 inches in diameter and weighing 250 pounds—being used to hunt ducks. It was not unusual for such a band of hunters to acquire as many as 500 birds in a single day. In the United States, this practice depleted stocks of wild

An Early Start for a Day Immersed in Nature’s Beauty at the Royal Park 🌅 Yesterday, I set off at 4 AM from the outskirts of Guildford, determined to secure a parking spot early, and it was so worth it! As we arrived, the gates opened, and there were plenty of spaces available. Over the years, my wife Katie Tanner Photography and I have visited many times, especially during rutting season, but this year was much quieter compared to the past. Despite that, the experience was just as magical. Spending the day wandering through this beautiful royal park was mesmerizing. The sound of red deer calls echoing all around made for an unforgettable experience. Witnessing these magnificent creatures up close during their rut was awe-inspiring. 🦌🍂 Being out in nature like this really makes you feel connected to the natural world. I can’t wait to return with my camera as autumn continues to transform the landscape, making it even more stunning. 📸✨ #RuttingSeason #RedDeer #GuildfordNature #R

Today, 14 February, in Orthodox calendar is the day of the Holy Tryphon, especially revered in Russia. The holy martyr is highly revered by Russian hunters, being their patron saint. He was depicted on icons with a falcon on his arm, and originally he was on the coat of arms of Moscow. There is a legend that under Tsar John the Terrible, during the royal hunt, the king's beloved gyrfalcon flew away. The tsar ordered the falconer Trifon Patrikeev to find the bird that had flown away. Falconer Trifon toured the surrounding forests, but without success. On the third day, tired of a long search, he stopped near Moscow, in a place now called Maryina Grove, and in exhaustion lay down to rest, having fervently prayed to his patron saint, the martyr Tryphon, asking him for help. In a dream, he saw a young man on a white horse holding a royal gyrfalcon, and this young man said: "Take the missing bird, go with God to the king and don't worry about anything." Upon waking up, the falconer actual

Shotguns, Bows & Fool Hens by E. Donnall Thomas Jr. Although the termination dust had yet to fall, it was the kind of September day that demands the acknowledgement of the seasons’ passage. Although fresh silvers were still entering the streams, the heart of the fishing season lay behind me. Bull moose were starting to round up their cows, and lines of migrating geese undulated against the crisp, azure sky. Since I’d been in Alaska long enough to know what lay just around the corner, I felt determined to wring as much experience as possible from the outdoors before the sun disappeared and winter seized the North Country in its icy grip. And on that particular day, I meant to do it with my shotgun. If I had nothing else with me as I walked out the door of our remote Kenai Peninsula home, I certainly enjoyed plenty of confidence in my dog. I regarded Skykomish as the best hunting Lab I’ve ever owned, and the passage of three more decades—and a number of very good retrievers—has yet to

Quinte West resident raises concerns about duck hunting near Bain Park A Quinte West, Ont., resident is raising concerns regarding duck hunting happening near a children’s play centre in Trenton. Quinte West resident Burritt Clarke often walks along the waterfront at Bain Park in Trenton, and was surprised one day when he heard gunshots. “They were pretty close, really close,” Clarke said of the hunters, who he said were near the park. Now well into duck hunting season, hunters across the province are able to head out with their permits for a day of shooting game. Clarke said he doesn’t think firing guns should be allowed so close to where children play. The popular public area features a children’s play centre, two ball diamonds and a soccer field. “The fear is, sooner or later, a child is going to get shot when they’re going down to the water’s edge to look at the ducks,” he said. Currently, no laws are being broken, according to the Ontario Provincial Police, the City of Quinte We

Hunting Perch with Waterfowl Calls From mid-winter through ice-out, Devils Lake guide Jason Feldner “hunts” perch with a system he says can’t be beat. Relying on highly detailed GPS mapping and electronics, signs from Mother Nature and a ‘three call’ system, Feldner quickly locates and ices big perch, day-in-day-out. “When it comes to finding fish, you’ve gotta key in on slight 1-foot depth contours—especially for perch. In mid- and late winter, a good place to start is that 8- to 15-foot range,” says Feldner. Like birds following a migration path, perch slowly travel specific depth contours from mid-winter through late ice to reach their spring spawning areas. “If you can’t get right on those one-foot contours and follow the perch, you’re gonna have a tough time staying on the action,” says Feldner. But to get the contour right, sink an Aqua-Vu camera, and you’ll spy a stockyard of yellow, green and black bars moving amidst swarms of shrimp. “That’s what I try to put my clients on

The Cape Buffalo is considered by some to be the most dangerous of all of the Big Five. While he seems docile enough when viewed undisturbed in the herd, when agitated or wounded this bovine can be extremely aggressive, vindictive, and cunning. Found all over southern Africa in herds of various sizes, the buffalo can weigh up to 1800 pounds. He is primarily a grazer but an occasional browser who must drink every day. They favor the thick bushveld during the day, leisurely moving and grazing as they go. At night they tend to herd up to protect the young from their archenemy, the lion. Both sexes carry horns, however, the horns of a bull can be quite spectacular in spread, with a deep curl and a solid boss covering the forehead. Cows lack the boss, but can have a very wide spread; in fact, the world record buffalo on file in the Roland Ward record book is a cow with a spread of some 62 inches. With a well-placed shot, a rifle of .375 caliber is adequate for the Cape buffalo. However, a
