8 Great New Hunting Rifles for 2022 Though I absolutely love those rifles which have been with me for decades, and have shared so many indelible memories, I still get excited to see the new crop of rifles introduced each year, and always ponder the possibilities of creating new memories with a new model. A hunting rifle can become a life-long friend, but like any friend, there’s the first time you meet, and like so many friendships, sometimes things don’t work out. Whether it’s a long-range bolt gun for sheep, elk and antelope, or a thumper of a lever gun destined to pursue bear in the spring vegetation, or an all-around deer gun, the possibilities are endless. Let’s take a gander at what’s new for 2022 for the American hunter.1. After my weekend training in Moscow shooting club, I remembered an outstanding meeting. It took place last September at the ADIHEX 2024, Abu Dhabi hunting exhibition. On a photo one of the fastest shooters on the planet, Raniero Testa. He had already set several world records and continues to surprise with new ones. Only after trying yourself in some kind of sport or art, you can really understand how difficult it is. What kind of effort and dedication does it take to become the best in what you do. I have great respect for all real professionals regardless of the type of activity. Raniero Testa (Italy) holds the record by throwing 17 sports clay targets with his hands and smashing them with 17 shots. And that's not all: the clay targets were hit in a record time of 2.08 seconds. If you count it, it turns out that the combined Raniero/Winchester SX4 produced a rate of fire of 490 rounds per minute – higher than the rate of fire of the M3 “Grease Gun" submachine gun!! End of year review: I've chosen this as my Wildlife Photo of the Year. It's a cheetah running into its new home provided by Trophy Hunters. Yes, beautifully managed trophy hunting by Zambezi Delta Safaris in 500,000 acre Hunting Block 11 has increased native wildlife to such high numbers that they were able to reintroduce cheetahs, a predator missing from the area for at least 100 years. Cabela's Family Foundation is a big part of this program. Four cheetah were released this day. I got this shot by running a GoPro 10 on video mode atop a small tripod while I operated a Canon R6 and 150-600mm Sigma. Lots of good video from both cameras, but this single frame pulled from the GoPro captured the essence of wildlife restoration advanced by and funded by dedicated sport/trophy hunters. Conservation in action.

By Frank Gentile, Hopewell, N.Y. It was October 2011, and I was back in my Chevy Tahoe on my way to another hunt. This time, instead of my son, I was traveling with my hunting buddies. My buddies and I had been on plenty of trips together before but never to Texas! Between the four of us and gear for six (two of our team opted to fly from New York to San Antonio), every single spare inch of space in the truck had been utilized. With each of us taking turns driving, we made it to Texas in about 20 hours. We got dinner and hotel rooms in Texarkana, and were back on the road early the next morning. With a day to spare before we were due at our hunting camp in Hondo, Texas, we headed south with plans to enjoy the city of San Antonio along the way. In San Antonio, we explored the Alamo, the River Walk and the Buckhorn Saloon and Texas Ranger Museum. What a great city! Our first order of business after arriving at the camp the next morning was to make sure that our rifles were on target.

Gold caviar for Russian Tsar. Pike caviar, once a rare and exclusive delicacy reserved for Russian Tsars, is steeped in history and intrigue. In the past, catching pike under the ice was an arduous and challenging task without modern equipment, making its caviar all the more precious. The skill and effort required to harvest this elusive fish during winter meant that only the most experienced fishermen could procure it, and even then, yields were limited. As a result, pike caviar became a symbol of luxury and privilege, gracing the tables of royalty and high society. Its unique flavor—mild yet distinct, with a hint of sweetness and crunch—made it a favorite among Russian nobility. Served on crisp bread or paired with rich creams, it was considered a true gourmet experience. Today, while easier to obtain, pike caviar still carries echoes of its regal past, offering a taste of history with every bite. It remains a testament to the resourcefulness of traditional fishing practices and con

RINGS REVEAL THE SECRETS OF WOODCOCK Woodcocks have many secrets. They are not gregarious birds, active at night, migratory - not always nearby. Philopatric - that is, they almost always return with an accuracy of 10 meters (!) not only to their birthplace, but also to their wintering place, as the rings and GPS/GSM beacons "say", in 16 countries of the world. And this is without the Far East and Asia! But where do woodcocks fly in the first year of their life, because in one clearing there can be nesting birds that have arrived from different places and countries of wintering... To the country of their father who wintered in Scandinavia or their mother who flew in from wintering in France? How do they decide where to fly? Nobody knows. Woodcocks settle evenly and everywhere where the moist soils are rich in fat earthworms. They don't need competitors, they like to eat themselves! A careful study of the ring return database gave us proof that chicks from one brood fly to different

Elk that roam the Rocky Mountain National Park will get a reprieve from visitors as park officials began closing

ROCKY MOUNTAIN NATIONAL PARK CLOSES AREAS TO PROTECT ELK Elk that roam the Rocky Mountain National Park will get a reprieve from visitors as park officials began closing areas around the park to prevent intrusion during the fall rut. Targeted areas include roadways and trails in Horseshoe Park, Upper Beaver Meadows, Moraine Park, Harbison Meadow and Holzwarth Meadow, according to the Loveland Reporter-Herald. While 2020 had extended closure times from 7 a.m. to 10 a.m. due to the uptick in park visitors, this year, closures will occur from 5 p.m to 10 a.m. and run through Oct. 31. Fishing will still be permitted in the Fall River, Thompson River or Colorado River as posted, but also closed from 5 p.m. to 7 a.m. Colorado Parks & Wildlife stated that the “closures are intended to prevent disturbance and harassment of elk during their fall mating period and to enhance visitor elk viewing opportunities.” Stay tuned to goHUNT for further updates.

It is traversed by the White Nile and flanked by the Sobat and Baro rivers, forming a fertile landscape with expansive floodplains and seasonally inundated grasslands. These features support a wide variety of wildlife and create prime hunting terrain, especially in areas where dense vegetation and open clearings intersect. Review of the DALI S240E Thermal Monocular I recently had the opportunity to test the DALI S240E thermal monocular, and I must say, it has some interesting features along with a few drawbacks that potential users should consider. Pros: Thermal Resolution: The 384x288 microbolometer resolution provides a clear thermal image. This level of resolution is sufficient for most outdoor activities, whether you're hunting, wildlife observation, or conducting search and rescue operations. Display Quality: The 640x480 display resolution enhances the viewing experience, making it easier to spot details in the thermal image. The visual clarity is impressive, especially in low-light conditions, which is crucial for nighttime observations. Image Magnification: With a zoom capability of 2x, 3x, and 4x, this monocular allows me to get closer views of distant subjects without losing too much clarity. This makes it a versatile option for various scenarios where detail is essential. Frame Rate: The

Gordon Castle Estate Gordon Castle Estate is located in Moray / Speyside in the wild and dramatic North East of Scotland. The estate is a traditional sporting estate with 6 miles of fishing on the River Spey as well as a longstanding game shoot, roe deer stalking and duck flighting. The estate has a variety of accommodation to suit individuals up to large parties. Gordon Castle is the ancient home of the Dukes and Duchesses of Gordon. It has huge historical significance and visitors often comment on the feeling that they are surrounded by the splendour of the past. Our focus is on providing an experience to our guests that they’re unlikely to find elsewhere. Whilst we are a sporting provider, we encourage guests to enjoy Moray / Speyside for all it has to offer rather than only focus on a single activity. The sporting ethos is traditional. Without exception all the game shot on the estate is eaten and enjoyed. We believe in shooting smaller numbers of birds and animals which
