The rise of the German Empire under Prussian leadership was in full swing during the mid 1800’s. For the first time, the army, which up to this time had been made up chiefly of the Prussian aristocracy and peasantry, was opened up to the middle class. This, combined with sweeping economic and political changes occurring throughout Europe, led to a rise in the status of the middle class within the Empire. With this rise came increased privileges regarding land ownership and hunting. In previous centuries, it was usually only the kings, prices and nobles who had the right to hunt, and they owned vast tracks of land for this purpose. However, as the wealth of middle-class Prussia grew during the 1800’s, merchants, professionals, and other middle-class citizens were able to purchase or lease land for themselves on which, of course, they could hunt. Fulfilling a Need In Germany dense forests blended with open fields and housed all types of feather and fur, including grouse, rabbit, fox, dee

Also, the lynx is good at climbing and hiding in trees, escaping from opponents high in the trees. It is considered that lynxes hunt exclusively on the ground. But as you can see from this video, a mountain river is also a suitable place. Lynx (bobcat ) eats 0.6—1.2 kg per day. Mainly hunts the American white hair, which takes up tu 97% of it the total diet. The percentage depends on the season and the number of hares. When there are not enough hares, lynxes begin to hunt ducks, grouse, partridges, squirrels, voles thereby causing serious damage to some of these bird species. Young ungulates (for example, Dall sheep, black-tailed deer, northern forest caribou) can also be a prey. In summer and autumn, the lynx often adds small mammals to its diet, in addition to the hare. Before giving birth to offspring, the lynx prepar

Gordon Castle Estate Gordon Castle Estate is located in Moray / Speyside in the wild and dramatic North East of Scotland. The estate is a traditional sporting estate with 6 miles of fishing on the River Spey as well as a longstanding game shoot, roe deer stalking and duck flighting. The estate has a variety of accommodation to suit individuals up to large parties. Gordon Castle is the ancient home of the Dukes and Duchesses of Gordon. It has huge historical significance and visitors often comment on the feeling that they are surrounded by the splendour of the past. Last weekend, I embarked on an unforgettable hunting trip in the heart of California’s wilderness. The journey began at the crack of dawn, with the sun casting a golden hue over the sprawling landscapes of the San Bernardino National Forest. Armed with my gear and a sense of adventure, I set out to explore the rugged terrain. The forest was alive with the sounds of nature, from the rustling leaves to the distant calls of wildlife. As I trekked deeper into the woods, I encountered a variety of game, including black bears and wild pigs. The thrill of the hunt was palpable, and every moment was a testament to the beauty and challenge of the great outdoors. One of the highlights of the trip was spotting a majestic mule deer. With careful precision and respect for the animal, I took my shot. The experience was both humbling and exhilarating, reminding me of the importance of conservation and responsible hunting practices. After a successful day in the field, I set up camp under the starlit

The bobcat (Lynx rufus), also known as the red lynx, is a medium-sized cat native to North America. It ranges from southern Canada through most of the contiguous United States to Oaxaca in Mexico. It is listed as Least Concern on the IUCN Red List since 2002, due to its wide distribution and large population. Although it has been hunted extensively both for sport and fur, populations have proven stable, though declining in some areas. It has distinctive black bars on its forelegs and a black-tipped, stubby (or "bobbed") tail, from which it derives its name. It reaches a total length (including the tail) of up to 125 cm (50 in). It is an adaptable predator inhabiting wooded areas, semidesert, urban edge, forest edge, and swampland environments. It remains in some of its original range, but populations are vulnerable to extirpation by coyotes and domestic animals. Though the bobcat prefers rabbits and hares, it hunts insects, chickens, geese and other birds, small rodents, and deer. Pre

It was really humbling talking to people there that said they'd driven all the way from Manitoba or distant locations in Saskatchewan just to meet us. The only downside to to the show was that virtually everyone that we chatted with had a picture of a bigger deer on their phone than TJ has ever taken ;) It was pretty cool spending time with several of the top TV show hosts and outdoor personalities in Canada. Life on the Ledge: Judging Yardage Shooting at Alaska big game presents a unique set of problems for the bowhunter. They live in such diverse terrain; they are frequently hunted in extreme weather and they vary dramatically in size from hundred-pound deer to nearly a ton of bison. And, regardless of size, habitat or weather, one of the biggest challenges of bowhunting is judging distance to the target animal. Mis-guessing the distance to the target, by only a few yards, is perhaps the most common reason archers miss game when bowhunting. Even with high tech, modern bows, there is still plenty of arc in an arrow’s flight path. Without question, the best way to judge yardage is to make use of a modern laser range finder, preferably one with angle-compensation features. However, there are many hunting scenarios when laser ranging is not practical or too time consuming. So, nothing will ever take the place of being able to accurately gauge distance by eyeballing it quickly. Learning to

These are one of the most important hunting tips for starters. Stealth and Silence Always be as quiet as you possibly can. Even the faintest twig, branch, clothing and equipment rattling will alert the animals. Dress appropriately, gear up lightly, and don’t use velcro clothing or anything that would make a lot of noise. Navigating Your Surroundings Become acquainted and scout out the hunting area. Depending on which game animals you hunt, it’s always a good idea to familiarize yourself with the perimeter, and use landmarks so you won’t get lost. Patience Goes a Long Way Many hunters don’t have the patience to acquire a clean shot. There’s a lot of waiting, but it pays off in the end when a deer appears on your scope. Persistence is key. Mind Your Scent Animals have heightened senses, and it’s a good idea to become as odorless as possible. There are many chemicals and cosmetic products that mask your scents. That means no smoking, no alcohol, and no smelly food. The wind factor is a

Deep Water Haunts Bass fishing this time of year often corresponds with deep water. In much of the country, bass move offshore and school up to chase open-water baitfish. Offshore structure and cover like river ledges, deep weed beds, rock piles, wing-dams, and deep boat docks can all be dissected with a drop-shot. It particularly excels as a clean-up hitter. Once you catch a few fish from an offshore hot-spot using traditional cranking and worm techniques, pitch a drop-shot in and see what bites. It will often surprise you. The key to this style of fishing is to get the boat near, or over your target. From there, let the bait down until it makes contact with the bottom, and begin a series of light shakes of the worm. You want the bait to move, but not the sinker. This sounds touchy, but it’s easy to get the hang of it. Most experienced drop-shot fishermen call this “shaking slack.” After a little practice, you’ll get the feel of allowing your bait to flutter and sink on a slack line,

New York Hunter Gets a Second Chance on This 180-Inch Buck “I was shaking so bad I missed him clean, sending my arrow three feet over his back” eremy Williams likes to hunt his family’s 500-acre parcel near the Susquehanna River in south-central New York. He goes down to the river often, and last summer he spotted a giant buck near the bank while catfishing. Williams watched where the deer bedded, and then came back to place trail cams in the area. By October, he’d learned the buck’s habits well enough to make his move. “He was only 20 yards away from me on Oct. 10,” Williams tells Outdoor Life. “But I was shaking so bad I missed him clean, sending my arrow three feet over his back.” Eager to redeem himself this season, Williams kept an eye on his trail cams and he kept getting photos of the buck. A few other hunters in the area had spotted the buck, too. But he wasn’t an easy deer to pattern. “I’d been bowhunting him on [our] family’s land in low, thick areas because I believed th

“Ever since I was a kid, an Alaskan moose hunt has been at the top of my list. And, this season, it was finally here. We were dropped deep into in the Brooks Range and quickly found ourselves chasing rutting bulls through the tundra swamps, tussocks, and ridge lines. After about a week and a handful of incredible encounters, we were hit with a days-long September snow storm. The sudden weather shift also called for a change in our tactics; we began to hunt bull moose more like a Midwest whitetail. Setting up along an obvious trail—that move proved to be the best decision we made on the entire trip. As we waited to fly the meat out, we glassed up a large grizzly—a bonus opportunity after an already successful hunt. We put a plan for a stalk in place and with luck still on our side, it all came together. There are no words to describe a hunt like this other than, once-in-a-lifetime.” - Mathews own’ Jeff Ozanne #MathewsLIFTX #mathews

Hunting: Traditions and Benefits of Wild Meat Hunting in Russia and Belarus is not just a hobby, but an important tradition, which for many hunters becomes a way to replenish the freezer. Wild animals provide quality meat, which is difficult to compare with what is sold in supermarkets. In this article, we will discuss why hunting remains relevant and how it affects the quality of meat. Hunting in Russia and Belarus has deep roots and is part of the cultural heritage. For many hunters, it is not only a way to get food, but also an opportunity to spend time in nature, enjoy the peace and quiet of the forest. Legal hunting maintains balance in the ecosystem and helps preserve wild animal populations. Benefits of Wild Meat: 1) Quality and Taste Wild animals eat natural food and lead an active lifestyle, which makes their meat more nutritious and tasty. Many hunters note that meat obtained in the forest has a unique taste and texture that cannot be obtained from meat products on store s

How to Can Deer Meat Tools and Ingredients: Pressure canner Quart jars, rings, and lids Venison Garlic Non-iodized salt Black pepper Directions: Trim up meat so that the majority of fat and tendons are removed. Cube the meat into pieces that are about the size of a golf ball. “Cold pack” the raw meat into the quart jar, leaving about 1 inch of headspace. Use a spoon to tightly pack in the meat. Don’t add any liquid, as the meat will create natural juices during the canning process. Put 1 teaspoon of non-iodized salt, ¼ teaspoon of black pepper, and two cloves of garlic on top of the meat. Adding a few slices of green pepper or onion is optional, and note that a little bit of flavor while canning will go a long way. Place on lid and screw on ring. Put your jars in the canner. Follow the directions that are specific to your pressure canner, which will suggest something like adding three quarts of water, and canning for 90 minutes at 15 pounds of pressure. It’s important that you know you

Picking the Best Rifle and Caliber for Pig Hunting Do you need a magnum setup or a fast-shooting semi-auto? Probably, your deer rifle will work just fine Large wild pigs can move with a grace and silence that’s starkly at odds with their appearance. The boar that emerged from the thicket next to us did it without a sound, and he was comically large. My 7-year-old son, Anse, spotted him, and by the time he said something and I looked up, the pig was walking straight away from our box stand, headed to the feeder 60 yards away. “Look at the size of the nuts on that thing!” Anse whispered. Indeed, it appeared as if the pig was toting a pair of darkened, medium-sized cantaloupes. As the boar settled on the bait, I helped Anse steady his rifle, a bolt-action .300 Blackout, in the window frame of the box blind. It was early, maybe 4 p.m., when we snuck into the blind, and the Central Texas sun was still hot. I’d barely closed the bolt on the little rifle when a mix of 25 pigs—sows and shoat

5 Tips to Set Up a Hunting Trophy Room! Start with a design Before you start hanging trophy kills, you need to start with the design. A design will give you practical steps on how you want the room to look and feel. Start with planning the purpose of this room. Is this just going to house your trophies? Pursuits Across the Plateaus of GAFSA: Hunting Seasons, Laws and Legislation, Demographics of Hunters Geographic Frame and Habitat Diversity in Tunisia Gafsa, located in southwestern Tunisia, is a rugged governorate defined by its semi-arid highlands, rocky plateaus, and narrow wadis that carve through the landscape. Unlike the sandy dunes of the deep south, Gafsa offers a mix of hard ground, sparse shrubbery, and steep elevations that make it a unique, though harsh, terrain for hunting. The mountain ranges such as Djebel Orbata provide shadowed cover and higher vegetation density, supporting a range of game that relies on altitude and seasonal water availability. Though rainfall is limited, it occurs primarily in the winter, giving rise to green pockets that attract animals during critical months. Hunter Distribution and Local Activity of Gafsa Hunting in Gafsa is less commercialized than in coastal areas but remains culturally entrenched, particularly in delegations like El Ksar

House OKs bill meant to help owners keep guns in emergencies COLUMBUS, Ohio (AP) — Ohio House lawmakers have advanced a proposal meant to ensure that gun owners’ lawfully held firearms and ammunition aren’t seized by the government during natural disasters, public health crises or other declared emergencies. The bill that cleared the Republican-led House on Thursday also would deem certain firearms businesses “essential” during those emergencies, temporarily extend concealed carry licenses that would expire during an emergency and keep government entities from stopping lawful hunting or fishing practices during declared emergencies. GOP Sen. Tim Schaffer of Lancaster, who sponsored the bill, has said it does not add new gun rights but clarifies that gun owners “cannot have their rights taken away.” Supporters say it would help protect self-defense for law-abiding gun owners. Democrats opposing the measure say it would hinder local governments from best protecting their residents du

Review of Antonio Zoli Columbus Gold Shotgun 12-76, 750mm As an avid hunter with years of experience in the field, I've had the pleasure of using the Antonio Zoli Columbus Gold shotgun in various hunting conditions. Here are my thoughts on this piece of equipment, including some of its strengths and weaknesses. Pros: Craftsmanship: One of the most striking features of the Columbus Gold is its undeniable craftsmanship. The wood finish is exquisite, providing a classic look that stands out in both form and function. The engravings are detailed and reflect the high-quality craftsmanship that Italian shotguns are known for. Balance and Weight: The shotgun is well-balanced, which makes for a more controlled shooting experience. At 750mm in length, it feels versatile for both upland bird hunting and waterfowl. Big Game Safaris in Nwoya Uganda: Seasonal Movements and Traditional Tracking Methods The first light of dawn creeps across the vast plains of Nwoya like a slow-moving tide, revealing silhouettes of acacia trees standing as sentinels over the grasslands. Somewhere in the distance, the deep grunt of a Cape buffalo carries through the crisp morning air, while a pair of ground hornbills begin their prehistoric calls. This is Nwoya at daybreak - raw, untamed, and pulsing with life. How Does Benelli’s Inertia-Driven System Work? A Hunter’s Deep Dive into Legendary Reliability If you’ve ever shouldered a Benelli shotgun in the field, you’ve likely felt the difference. It’s not just the balance or the Italian craftsmanship - it’s the Inertia-Driven® system, the heart of Benelli’s semi-automatic legacy. As a lifelong hunter and firearms enthusiast, I’ve trusted this system in rain, snow, dust, and heat. Let me break down how it works, why it matters, and what makes it stand apart from gas-operated shotguns. ⚙️ The Core Principle: Recoil, Not Gas Unlike gas-operated shotguns that siphon off combustion gases to cycle the action, Benelli’s Inertia-Driven system uses pure recoil energy. Once the spring reaches full compression, it expands, driving the bolt rearward to eject the

Bull Riding Rat Taxidermy Creating a Bull Riding Rat taxidermy piece involves a blend of creativity and traditional taxidermy techniques. Here's a simplified process: Preparation: First, a rat specimen is carefully skinned, and the hide is preserved through tanning to prevent decay and maintain its shape. Form Creation: A custom form or mannequin is created to fit the rat's size and pose. For this unique piece, the form would be adjusted to make the rat appear as if it's riding a small model bull. Mounting the Hide: The preserved rat hide is carefully fitted over the form. The taxidermist stitches it in place, ensuring a natural look and proper alignment of the fur. Detailing: The rat's eyes, ears, and facial features are carefully crafted and positioned for a lifelike appearance. The pose is fine-tuned to make it look like the rat is actively riding the bull.
