Honest Review of the 1966 Sauer & Sohn 12x70 Shotgun I recently had the opportunity to handle a Sauer & Sohn 12x70 shotgun from 1966, and I wanted to share my thoughts on this classic firearm. First and foremost, the craftsmanship is remarkable. Sauer & Sohn has a long-standing reputation for producing high-quality shotguns, and this model is no exception. The attention to detail in the engraving and woodwork showcases the company's dedication to their art. The walnut stock feels solid and well-balanced in the hands, giving a sense of connection to the firearm that newer models often lack. In terms of performance, the 12x70 gauge offers a versatile range for various shooting activities, whether it’s sport shooting or hunting. The shotgun cycles smoothly, and the recoil is manageable, making it comfortable to shoot even over prolonged periods. I was impressed with its accuracy - hitting targets felt intuitive, and the pattern was consistent. However, being a vintage piece, there ar

Crocodile hunting. Egypt, 1870s. Photographer: Henri Bechard Henri Bashar opened a studio in Cairo and sold tourists photographs with views of ancient Egyptian structures. From the 1st millennium BC to the 4th century AD (Roman period), the ancient Egyptians mummified millions of animals, most of the mummies were classified by Egyptologists as ‘votive sacrifices’ to gods and goddesses. Before the construction of the Aswan Dam, Nile crocodiles were found throughout the Nile. Moreover, in ancient times crocodiles were found in Israel, Lebanon and Syria. The ancient Egyptians hunted crocodiles for their mummies, scientists have come to this conclusion. The crocodile, from which the ancient Egyptians made one of the mummies, was not grown in special conditions at the temple. Scientists from France and the United States came to this conclusion after studying the remains using an elementary particle accelerator, the Journal of Archaeological Sciences writes. Honest review of the Steyr Mannlicher in .300 Win Mag caliber The Steyr Mannlicher in .300 Win Mag is a rifle that combines exceptional engineering with impressive performance. As a shooter, I appreciate the quality craftsmanship that Steyr is known for, and this model does not disappoint. One of the standout features is its incredible accuracy. The barrel design and cold hammer forging contribute to tight groupings, even at long distances. The .300 Win Mag caliber delivers significant power, making it suitable for big game hunting while maintaining manageable recoil, particularly with a good recoil pad. The rifle’s design is ergonomic, making it comfortable to handle and shoot for extended periods. Big Game Hunting Hunting in Africa Big Game - is for many the very essence of hunting in Africa. Big Game does not just mean big animals, but big challenges and experiences. Technically speaking by far the most hunting in Africa is actually Big Game Hunting. Even many species of antilope are actually classed as big game. Labrodors – great hunters, even if they hunt mushrooms. Labrador is hunting dog, so … If a Labrador is picking mushrooms, it's called hunting anyway, just mushroom hunting. "Truffle hunters" are looking for an underground mushroom by smell. Everyone knows that pigs have traditionally been used in this field. But these, undoubtedly, the smartest animals have a big drawback: greed. They know about truffles in about the same way as they do about oranges. Having found a precious mushroom, the pig devours it without a twinge of conscience – if the owner does not have time to take it away. Any dog with a little sense of smell can easily sniff out the strong smell of a ripe truffle and indicate its location, without having to dig it up and devour it, as trained pigs do. In addition, it is somehow more convenient for an intelligent urban truffle collector to keep a dog in an apartment than a pig. Labradors once again hold the title of the main good boys, this time in the hunt for truffles

Yes, beautifully managed trophy hunting by Zambezi Delta Safaris in 500,000 acre Hunting Block 11 has increased native wildlife to such high numbers that they were able to reintroduce cheetahs, a predator missing from the area for at least 100 years. Cabela's Family Foundation is a big part of this program. Four cheetah were released this day. I got this shot by running a GoPro 10 on video mode atop a small tripod while I operated a Canon R6 and 150-600mm Sigma. Lots of good video from both cameras, but this single frame pulled from the GoPro captured the essence of wildlife restoration advanced by and funded by dedicated sport/trophy hunters. From upland bird hunters to Olympic clay shooters, Browning shotguns are prized for their reliability, balance, and timeless design. Harris Hawk: One of the Most Popular Birds Used in Falconry, History, Hunting Behavior, Training. The Harris hawk (Parabuteo unicinctus) has a legacy that stretches back over 2,000 years. Indigenous tribes like the Aztecs revered these raptors for their intelligence and hunting prowess. By the 16th century, Harris hawks were used in falconry during the reign of King Henry VIII. Their cooperative hunting style and adaptability made them ideal for European terrains, and by the late 1800s, they were imported from the southwestern U.S. and Mexico to Europe for pest control and sport hunting. Today, Harris hawks are flown in falconry across North America, the UK, Spain, and Portugal. 8 Great New Hunting Rifles for 2022 Though I absolutely love those rifles which have been with me for decades, and have shared so many indelible memories, I still get excited to see the new crop of rifles introduced each year, and always ponder the possibilities of creating new memories with a new model. A hunting rifle can become a life-long friend, but like any friend, there’s the first time you meet, and like so many friendships, sometimes things don’t work out. Whether it’s a long-range bolt gun for sheep, elk and antelope, or a thumper of a lever gun destined to pursue bear in the spring vegetation, or an all-around deer gun, the possibilities are endless. Let’s take a gander at what’s new for 2022 for the American hunter.1. Marlin 1895 SBL and Trapper Rescued from the dustbin by Ruger, Marlin was purchased in the breakup of the Freedom Group, and they are coming back with a vengeance. The SPAS-12 was designed to function primarily in semi-automatic mode, with the pump-action mode used to reliably fire low-pressure ammunition such as tear gas rounds or less-lethal bean bags. The firing mode is switched by depressing the button under the fore-grip and also sliding it forwards or backwards until it clicks into position allowing the rotating sleeve to open or close the two gas ports. The semi-automatic mode functions with a short-stroke gas piston system. When a shell is fired, the pressure makes the bolt move rearward but the bolt will stop before opening as it deploys a single top locking lug. The gas vents into the barrel and the gas port is located towards the end of the barrel. From the gas port, the gas vents downwards into the gas block where it pushes the piston rearward. Because of the presence of the magazine tube and to avoid the use of a top-mounted gas system, the gas block and the piston are annular, along with the piston spring they enclose the magazine

Theodore Roosevelt. From hunter to United States president. Theodore Roosevelt was born in 1858. Teddy, as his friends called him, was a frail child, prone to illness, asthma attacks, and physical weakness. Yet, despite his poor health, he was a passionate lover of wildlife. Inspired by the works of James Audubon, William Bartram, and Alexander Wilson, as well as the adventure novels of Mayne Reid about boy hunters and the writings of Frank Forester, as a teenager Theodore became deeply interested in naturalism and decided to dedicate himself to taxidermy. This, of course, did little to help his asthma, so his father insisted he take up outdoor sports. The choice was obvious: Teddy chose hunting. His passion for hunting was remarkable. He took pride in shooting large numbers of birds and other wildlife, collecting impressive trophies—some of which he, as a naturalist, referred to as "specimens." But for Roosevelt, hunting wild animals and collecting their hides and horns was always a
