Looking back on a fantastic week in the Greater Yellowstone Ecosystem. I treasure every trip I get to make to the GYE. This image was captured February of 2022. After listening to multiple groups of howls, we decided to position ourselves in between them in hopes we could catch a glimpse. After only 5hrs of being in the general area our patients paid off. To my surprise a beautiful young gray wolf appeared on the ridge above. With another pack across the river communicating with her I knew we were in for a treat. She boldly made her way down the ridge and towards us. I was fortunate enough to be in the right place at the right time. I snapped what would be my favorite wolf shots to date. This is a close up shot from my living room window in Ancient Olympia, Greece. I have a five month old daughter who adores birds and looking at them got me pondering. Most of them are migratory birds and I am about to embark on a similar move. This is not my hometown, I moved here two and a half years ago, this was essentially the first place I rented. I came here single and in a matter of two months I got married and a year later I got pregnant. A number of adversities have come my way, the harshest of which is my current state of unemployment. We have decided to move to a place far away from here, to my grandmother's place. It's a small cottage but it will be our home by the sea on a Greek island. The early season is a great time to hunt whitetails. Food sources are plentiful, deer are unpressured and they’re on consistent patterns. The latter point is the most important because that’s what makes them the most huntable. Whitetails are repeating very similar patterns on a consistent basis. That makes them killable. What makes them unkillable? Hunting them incorrectly and in the wrong places. Here are five spots to avoid. 1. Untimely Food Sources Deer are always focused on the food. They shift as food sources change. But generally, they remain in each pattern for several days or weeks. It’s all about finding the best, freshest food source. Deer are concentrate selectors, meaning they are constantly seeking out the best food source on the landscape. Generally, these patterns vary based on geographic location and change from property to property. In one location, deer might be targeting green soybeans. On a neighboring tract, they could be hitting the first of the white oak acorns.

Life of a Sockeye On July 22nd, 2021, news broke that Bristol Bay was having its biggest sockeye salmon return since recordkeeping began in 1893. More than 63 million sockeye had returned to the bay’s different watersheds and fish were still running. By the time the run was complete, almost 66 million sockeye had returned on their journey to complete the life of a sockeye salmon. A few days later, I left town to guide a natural history brown-bear film shoot in Southeast Alaska. One of the sequences we were trying to get was of a bear chasing salmon underwater. We had a camera in an underwater housing submerged near the base of a raging waterfall. It could be operated from 100 yards away with an iPad. Lamb Karahi Lamb Karahi is one of our favourite lamb curry dishes, and we're telling you now, it is well worth the time and effort to make. Why is it our favourite? The combinations of ingredients make a flavour that's hard to resist. It has a good amount of heat, while the sweet tomatoes, combined with the thick, rich, gravy-like sauce, is pretty moreish. PHEASANT (COMMON) A large, long-tailed game bird. Males have rich chestnut, golden-brown and black markings on body and tail, with a dark green head and red face wattling.
