Tips for Camouflage in Hunting: Choosing the Right Camouflage, Blending In, and Minimizing Noise Effective #camouflage is key to a successful #hunt, as blending into the environment lets hunters approach their target undetected. Here are some tips on choosing the right #camouflage_gear, staying hidden in the forest or open areas, and minimizing noise. Camouflage: How to Choose the Right One The choice of camouflage depends on the terrain, season, and time of day. In the forest, green and brown tones help blend in with trees and foliage, while in winter conditions, a white-grey camouflage works best on snowy terrain. For hunting in open plains, beige and brown colors are better, blending in with grass and dry landscapes. Seasonal #hunting_camouflage also varies: summer clothing is lightweight and breathable, while winter gear is warm and can come with snow covers. Why hunt for bear in Maine? For new and experienced hunters alike, going on a bear hunt is a great way to enjoy nature, get some exercise, and spend quality time outdoors with friends and family. The season starts in late August, offering experienced hunters extra time to scout for other species such as deer or moose while enjoying warmer temperatures. Successful hunters are rewarded with wholesome, locally sourced, free-range, hormone-free lean protein which, if handled properly, is excellent to eat! Bear hunting also helps manage the population. Maine has a healthy and stable population of black bears – the largest in the eastern United States, in fact. Since black bears do not have any natural predators, it would be very easy for the population to grow to an unsustainable level, leading to starvation, disease, and death. Bear hunting helps keep the population at a number where bears and their environment stay healthy.

Dozens of drunk grizzlies hit by trains for decades Drunk grizzly bears have been hit by trains near Glacier National Park in Montana for decades. Spilled grain mixed with moisture from snow and rain equal the perfect concoction to both lure bears and dull their senses. This unfortunate equation means that the bears are too slow to outrun the trains heading their way. Fatalities linked to the fermented grain have been tallied since 1980 with a total of 63 grizzly bears killed along the rail line that stretches over Marias Pass and the Great Bear Wilderness, according to the Cowboy State Daily. This year, three have been killed so far, and, in 2019, which was the worst year on record, eight grizzlies were killed by trains. While two grizzly populations roam the Lower 48, the ones being impacted by trains come from the Northern Continental Divide grizzly population. Chuck Neal, a retired federal ecologist, says the spilled grain “can be a tempting treat for bears” and that “with enoug

Early Season Hunting Conditions Depending on where you hunt and exactly when you’re in the field, early-season hunting can be brutal. For example, sitting in a ground blind near an antelope watering hole or putting the stalk on a Western muley can cause you to sweat like you were trying to earn a spot in the NFL combine. You’d think that sitting perched in a tree would offer some relief due to the wind, but that’s not always true either. Hot and humid conditions without any breeze can be just as tough 15 feet up. Traditional cotton shirts or blue jeans don’t work well in these situations because they don’t breathe well or wick your sweat away. As a result, your clothes just stay wet and eventually start to stink. Not ideal for hunting, especially if you’re on a multi-day trip out west. At the same time, some southern or western hunts may take you through some challenging terrain, where briars, thorns, and other vegetation tears at your hunting clothes. That means your lightweight hunt

Yet, at a time when many avian species in the UK are under threat of regional extinction, government data reveals falconers are permitted to hunt rare songbirds. Hunting in TUNIS: Demographics in Tunisia, Geography, Local Laws, Clubs and Communities, Hunting Legislation of Tunisia (PART II) Hunting Seasons and Optimal Times The hunting season in Tunis follows the national calendar, with the best hunting times falling during the fall and winter months. The period from October to February is ideal for both small game and bird hunting, as this is when wildlife is most active and migratory birds are passing through the region. Early mornings and late afternoons are typically the best times for hunting, especially for small game like rabbits and hares, as these animals are more active during the cooler parts of the day. Bird hunting, particularly for migratory species, peaks during the fall when large flocks of quail, thrushes, and other migratory birds make their way through Tunisia. These birds stop to rest in the fertile habitats of Tunis, making it a prime location for hunters. Waterfowl hunting is also most productive during the winter month

Hunting trip to Finland? Hunting in Finland requires that four things are taken care of in good time before the planned hunting trip. For this reason, planning should start well ahead of the trip. A couple of thousand hunters from abroad visit Finland every year. In particular, hunting for white-tailed deer, moose and grouse attracts hunters to Finland. Getting a hunting card “Foreign citizens can get a Finnish hunting card for one season at a time, if they have the right to hunt in their own country. Similarly, a certificate of equivalence for a shooting test can be obtained if the person has the right to hunt ‘similar-sized game’ in their own country”, says Paula Laukkanen, Executive Director of the Helsinki Game Management Association. “Both the hunting card and the certificate of equivalence for a shooting test cost the same for a foreigner as for a Finn.” The application for a hunting card is addressed to the executive director of the relevant game management association, who

The rise of the German Empire under Prussian leadership was in full swing during the mid 1800’s. For the first time, the army, which up to this time had been made up chiefly of the Prussian aristocracy and peasantry, was opened up to the middle class. This, combined with sweeping economic and political changes occurring throughout Europe, led to a rise in the status of the middle class within the Empire. With this rise came increased privileges regarding land ownership and hunting. In previous centuries, it was usually only the kings, prices and nobles who had the right to hunt, and they owned vast tracks of land for this purpose. However, as the wealth of middle-class Prussia grew during the 1800’s, merchants, professionals, and other middle-class citizens were able to purchase or lease land for themselves on which, of course, they could hunt. Fulfilling a Need In Germany dense forests blended with open fields and housed all types of feather and fur, including grouse, rabbit, fox, dee

Will Brantley and Mike Hanback talk long-range glassing, big bucks in Indiana, and pre-season plans in the Realtree Outpost podcast It's late August and still hot, but there's hope in the air, too. Kentucky's squirrel season opened this past weekend, and Tennessee's early three-day "velvet" archery season opened today. With luck, I'll be in a treestand this weekend. We're right on the eve of one of the best times of year, and there's no better time to debut Season 3 of Realtree's Outpost Podcast. This week, I joined fellow blogger and Big Deer TV host Mike Hanback to discuss a variety of pre-season topics. We covered long-range glassing tactics (as detailed here), and discussed why they're still so effective, especially in the early season, and even more so than trail cameras. We discussed plans for this fall, strategies for hunting the drought-stricken West, and personal goals for another season. Then we shifted gears to talk about Josh Honeycutt's recent (and fascinating) story on

An unusual hunt. Best regards to all!I don't know if you're interested in it, but it's a true story, happened in Poland, Lithuania and Belarus. Sincerely. "This is a historical novel, based on a true story that happened during the First World War, on the Eastern Front, in the winter of 1916-17 and which was disclosed and followed by newspapers such as the New York Times. A pack of wolves made up of hundreds of specimens, due to the destruction of the conflict, began to attack and devour not only civilians but also Russian, German and Austro-Hungarian soldiers isolated or in small groups, penetrating even the trenches at night. The belligerent armies were forced to enter into a local truce and form mixed patrols to track down and exterminate the pack. They succeeded but only after several months. A true but little-known story on which this exceptionally thorough and detailed historical novel, unique internationally, was based". In the photo, German reservist with wolf killed in trench,

Canadian geese hunting is a popular and challenging pursuit for hunters across the United States. These migratory birds are known for their intelligence, adaptability, and strong social bonds, making them both a rewarding and demanding target. Here's an exploration of why accurate shooting is crucial in this type of hunting, how American hunters approach it, and what makes it so difficult. The Difficulty of Canadian Goose Hunting Despite its popularity, Canadian goose hunting is not easy. Several factors contribute to its difficulty: Intelligence and Adaptability Geese are highly observant and wary of potential threats. If they detect anything unusual—such as poorly placed decoys, inconsistent calling, or exposed hunters—they will flare away from the area. Experienced geese become even more difficult to deceive over time. Weather Conditions Weather plays a significant role in goose hunting success. Wind direction affects how geese approach decoys, while fog, rain, or snow can obscure

Youth have more time to complete hunter education while still hunting this fall. Any youth (age 17 and younger) who has completed an online hunter education class will be able to hunt on their own tag, even if they haven’t completed the required in-person field day. With fewer hunter education classes/field days offered this year due to COVID-19, Oregon Department of Fish and Wildlife will defer the field day requirement for youth hunters for the 2021 hunting season. The field day will still be required to get a hunter education certificate, but can be delayed until after hunting season. “This will provide additional time for any young hunter to get their hunter education certification,” said Antonio Salgado, ODFW Recruitment/Retention/Reactivation Coordinator. “They will still have to complete a field day to be fully certified. Since fewer and smaller hunter ed conventional classes and field days have been offered due to COVID, we didn’t want anyone to miss the chance to hunt this

Dedal T2.380 Hunter Thermal Scope Review of I recently had the opportunity to test the Dedal-T2.380 Hunter thermal scope, and overall, I have mixed feelings about its performance. Below, I’ll outline the pros and cons to help potential buyers make an informed decision. Dedal T2.380 Hunter Pros: Image Quality: The first thing that struck me was the exceptional image quality. The thermal sensor provides clear, detailed images even in total darkness, allowing for accurate target identification at considerable distances. User-Friendly Interface: The scope has an intuitive and easy-to-navigate menu interface. Adjusting settings, changing modes, and zooming in/out can be done quickly, which is crucial during a nighttime hunt or when speed is essential. Durability: Constructed with rugged materials, the Dedal-T2.380 is built to withstand harsh weather conditions. I tested it in rain and low temperatures, and it performed reliably without any issues. Long Battery Life: The batte

Boar hunting is quite exciting. Since ancient times, there has been great interest in it. In this article we will talk about one of the types of hunting for a wild boar. The main type is considered to be classical hunting. Conducted from the living room. There are two variants of this type of hunting - in the fields for food and on boar crossings. The first option means that you need to find boar feeding points within a set period of time, which does not mean that they are in demand throughout the territory. The wild boar is often omnivorous, for example, it can eat both potatoes and oat fields. In autumn, after the harvest, wild boars can feed in abandoned apple orchards. The best option is hunting in oat fields. To do this, they look for wet lowlands with dense shrubs, as well as swamps. In some cases, if the oat field is in these areas, then the appearance of the wild boar is most likely there. The field is explored in the morning, because by the evening the smell remains there, an

Barbuda is a wildlife paradise Barbuda’s small population, with large areas of undeveloped land and a once pristine coastline interspersed with natural salt-ponds make it the perfect habitat for hundreds of species of sea birds and animals, many of them now lost or endangered elsewhere in the Caribbean. After a shower of rain you might see a land turtle looking for a drink, and after a big seasonal rain there will be land crabs marching by the hundreds. Any large development disturbs this incredible natural environment and Barbudans have always sought to keep it this way. The island has long been home to nesting sea turtles whose tracks can be seen in the sand on nearly every beach of our coastline, and a short drive into the bush in Barbuda is a wonderful opportunity to see many different animals living – often in harsh drought conditions – in their own space, mostly undisturbed. There are guinea birds, too many donkeys and large cattle that are brought in occasionally to be slaught

Labrodors – great hunters, even if they hunt mushrooms. Labrador is hunting dog, so … If a Labrador is picking mushrooms, it's called hunting anyway, just mushroom hunting. "Truffle hunters" are looking for an underground mushroom by smell. Everyone knows that pigs have traditionally been used in this field. But these, undoubtedly, the smartest animals have a big drawback: greed. They know about truffles in about the same way as they do about oranges. Having found a precious mushroom, the pig devours it without a twinge of conscience – if the owner does not have time to take it away. Any dog with a little sense of smell can easily sniff out the strong smell of a ripe truffle and indicate its location, without having to dig it up and devour it, as trained pigs do. In addition, it is somehow more convenient for an intelligent urban truffle collector to keep a dog in an apartment than a pig. Labradors once again hold the title of the main good boys, this time in the hunt for truffles

“Ever since I was a kid, an Alaskan moose hunt has been at the top of my list. And, this season, it was finally here. We were dropped deep into in the Brooks Range and quickly found ourselves chasing rutting bulls through the tundra swamps, tussocks, and ridge lines. After about a week and a handful of incredible encounters, we were hit with a days-long September snow storm. The sudden weather shift also called for a change in our tactics; we began to hunt bull moose more like a Midwest whitetail. Setting up along an obvious trail—that move proved to be the best decision we made on the entire trip. As we waited to fly the meat out, we glassed up a large grizzly—a bonus opportunity after an already successful hunt. We put a plan for a stalk in place and with luck still on our side, it all came together. There are no words to describe a hunt like this other than, once-in-a-lifetime.” - Mathews own’ Jeff Ozanne #MathewsLIFTX #mathews
