New Mexico bans scopes on muzzleloaders Earlier this month, the New Mexico State Game Commission voted to ban the use of scopes on all muzzleloaders beginning the 2023 hunting season. The new ruling specified that muzzleloader hunters are not allowed to use scopes on their muzzleloaders during a hunt, but that scopes are still legal for muzzleloaders during Any Legal Weapon hunts only. Stewart Liley, head biologist for the New Mexico Department of Game and Fish, stated in the meeting with the commission that technology improvements have made muzzleloaders nearly as effective as centerfire rifles. Liley went on to note, “what we’re seeing biologically is that the harvest is going to be unsustainable,”. If you are planning to apply for New Mexico in 2023, please remember to take this new rule change into account.

Naivis Gen 2+ Night Vision Scope: Honest Hunter's Review Look, I've been hunting for over 20 years. I've seen gear come and go, and I'm not easily impressed by fancy gadgets. I decided to give the Naivis Gen 2+ night vision scope a try, hoping it would give me an edge during those low-light hunts. Here's my honest take: Naivis Gen 2+ The Good: Decent Image Quality (For Gen 2+): Let's be clear, it's not Gen 3 clarity, but for the price point and being a Gen 2+, the image is surprisingly good. It provides a usable image in fairly dark conditions, allowing target identification out to a reasonable distance (about 150-200 yards in my experience). It definitely beats trying to hunt with binos and a prayer. Sturdy Build: The scope feels solid. It's been bumped around in my pack, endured some light rain, and still holds zero. The Different Types of Hunting in Italy There are different types of hunting in Italy. There are specific times of the year that one can go hunt. Here are some of them: Wild boar hunting in Italy Compared to other types of hunting, boar hunting is the most traditional. The reason is that hunters are allowed to join their non-hunting counterparts. The hunting takes place at sunset when the animals come to the fields to feed. Wild boar hunting originally happened in Central Italy and Maremma. Nowadays, you can hunt for them anywhere in Italy as they are populating all over the country. The best method to hunt them is to hide at a high seat that over-looks the fields in the middle of the forest. Most boars get out of the woods when it’s dark. You can hunt for them as they stroll to the fields. The best season to hunt for boars is from November to May. Duck hunting in Italy You can go on a hunting trip in Italy and enjoy hunting wild ducks. You will find ducks in the water. So, the best

SUMMER PREP EQUALS A BETTER FALL DEER SEASON Don't wait until the season starts. It’s hard to think about frosty mornings at hunting camp this time of the year. But now is exactly when you need to be putting in the work for the upcoming season. UPGRADE YOUR GEAR Think back to last season. Did a fogged scope cost you a big buck? Did your treestand squeak when you tried to get into position for a shot? Did you leave a hunt early or skip going out altogether because of inclement weather? Now is the time to remedy all those problems. Available stock on sporting goods always seems to be in short supply just before season. Don’t wait until the gear you need is sold out before you start shopping. Purchasing early also allows you to get familiar with your new equipment, particularly firearms and optics. Not having to

I’ve used this new class of “optics” over the past year to find newborn calves in a deadly blizzard, to find my ice-fishing buddies in the fog, to detect hidden electrical problems that might burn my house down, to hunt coyotes at midnight, and to finally even the odds on crop-raiding feral

Hunting Seasons and Optimal Times

Hunting in ZAGHOUAN: Hunting Communities, Laws and Geography, Demographics of Hunting Communities of Tunisia (PART II) Hunting Seasons and Optimal Times The hunting season in Zaghouan, like in other parts of Tunisia, is regulated by the national hunting calendar, with the main hunting season running from October to February. The cooler months are ideal for hunting, as wildlife is more active, and the weather is more favorable for outdoor activities. Early mornings and late afternoons are the best times for hunting, as animals tend to be more active during these times. For small game like rabbits and hares, hunters typically head out early in the morning, when the animals are most likely to be foraging. Bird hunting, particularly for partridges, pigeons, and migratory species, is most productive during the fall and early winter months. These birds migrate through the region, making it an excellent time for hunters. Waterfowl hunting, though not as prevalent in Zaghouan as in other pa

Jamaica Inn calls time on 100 years of hunts meeting on its land This article is more than 1 year old Cornish pub used in Daphne du Maurier novel says there are no pluses, just minuses to hunt visits A pub that was the setting for a novel by Daphne du Maurier has banned hunts from meeting on its land after 100 years of the practice. The Jamaica Inn in Cornwall – immortalised in the 1936 novel of the same name about smuggling – announced the decision after the East Cornwall Hunt invited the Beaufort Hunt to meet there on Saturday, a move the pub called “extremely ill-advised”. Both hunts said the venue on Bodmin Moor, its staff and customers had been targeted by “activists” online. The Jamaica Inn, which was built in 1750 as a coaching inn for travellers, wrote on Facebook that it had never supported hunting but had allowed “hunts to start from the inn because of the 100-year tradition of doing so”. It said: “Last Saturday the local hunt invited the Beaufort Hunt to join their usua

Controversial spring bear hunt up for debate in Washington The Washington Fish and Wildlife Commission will hear a report Friday on potential changes to the 2022 spring bear hunt season. However, several conservation groups said special permits to hunt black bears in the spring should not be issued at all. The groups said the hunts cruelly kill bears just as they’ve emerged from hibernation with cubs in tow. “There's a reason why we don't hunt any other species during the spring – other than turkeys – because spring is an important time for all species in which they're recovering from the winter,” said Claire Loebs Davis, board president, Washington Wildlife First, a conservation group. After hibernation, Loebs Davis said, bears are on the verge of starvation, making the bears sluggish, slow and easy to kill. “Starvation is forcing them into clearings and in areas where the only food is available – where they are easy for hunters to find and shoot,” she said. The Mid-Gun-Season Blues: When Times Get Tough Morning Hunts I believe your chances are best during this period when you hunt a morning stand back in the timber. When the pressure is on, an old deer feels most comfortable cruising around or pushing a doe on a hardwood ridge or in a cedar draw or creek bottom. By that time, he should have gone completely nocturnal, but deep woods give him a false sense of security. A buck believes he’s hidden in the trees, but he’s not if you’re posted there. Set up early, and look for a good deer ghosting around at dawn. Then keep hanging tough. Each day into midseason, you’ll hear fewer gunshots and see fewer hunters stomping around the woods. Most of the die-hards who, like you, haven’t tagged out will hunt a couple of hours in morning and afternoon. At midday, things will settle down, and some deer will get up and move. You might still nail a good buck between 9 a.m. and noon.

Turkey Hunting the Evening Shift The afternoon can be one of your best chances to shoot a longbeard. Here's your playbook for success The afternoon doesn’t get much attention from hunters or turkeys. Birds hunker low in secluded places to while away the midday. Hunters take siestas to catch up on lost winks, or maybe work in the yard, around the house or at their job. But if your daylight and midmorning sessions didn’t work out, there’s another good time to invest additional hunting hours: the evening shift. Provided hunting in the afternoons is legal in your state (in some states, it isn’t), real hunting opportunities present themselves in the last two to three hours of daylight. Turkey activity increases significantly at this time. But the evening shift is a different kind of hunting. A turkey at day’s end is not the same bird it was at day’s beginning. You must understand those differences, hunt with them in mind, and put a new collection of turkey hunting tactics, techniques and tr
