A day 3 years in the making. My Wyoming Elk guide, Taytin, and his lovely wife, Lilly, came to visit us this week, and yesterday was epic. This was their first trip east of the Mississippi River. We started the day turkey hunting an Osceola Longbeard, checked out the Largest Live Oak tree in FL, got an 8ft gator (the 1st one they ever laid eyes on), and finished the day in the FL grass flats of the big bend. Small Game Alaska As we pushed our way through the waist deep snow the big snowshoe hare just sat there and waited. His “white” camouflage blended perfectly with the snow, but not quite good enough to keep me, and my 8-year old son, Eli from pushing forward. With each step I figured he would bolt, but he didn’t so we decided to keep moving towards him. I slowly raised the BowTech bow and settled the pin. In most states hunting small game usually takes a back seat to hunting big game, especially here in Alaska. With moose, caribou and sheep practically around every corner most people forget that the state also harbors some of the finest small game pursuits in the country. Angola While hunting is not currently taking place on a commercial basis in Angola it is looking like a new hot spot and may open up by 2025 with some outstanding Elephant and Cape Buffalo available. We recently looked at some hunting areas in the Cuando Cubango Province near Mavinga and I personally saw buffalo over 45 inches and bull Elephant in the 60–70-pound range. There is already a very nice lodge in place and once the CITES details are worked out this will be the prime area for most hunts in Angola.
