Hotel in Hunting Island What You Will See The Island has three miles of walkable beaches, a historic lighthouse, and ample opportunities for bird watching, fishing, crabbing, or shrimping. Shady picnic tables, showers, dressing rooms make a day trip to the beach manageable. The Island’s marshes there were used for the Vietnam War scenes in the movie Forrest Gump. Jungle and water camp scenes for the movie G.I. Jane were also shot on Hunting Island. As you drive in, you go through a maritime forest with soaring pines and palms. Nestled into this woodland setting is the Visitors Center where you can get a park map and brochure, and see exhibits on the historic lighthouse as well as on the natural flora and fauna. A small auditorium hosts educational programs on the island’s nature and history.Post: 3 November 18:46

Trophy hunting, when managed sustainably, can contribute to anti-poaching efforts, habitat preservation, and community development. Last weekend, I embarked on an unforgettable hunting trip in the heart of California’s wilderness. The journey began at the crack of dawn, with the sun casting a golden hue over the sprawling landscapes of the San Bernardino National Forest. Armed with my gear and a sense of adventure, I set out to explore the rugged terrain. The forest was alive with the sounds of nature, from the rustling leaves to the distant calls of wildlife. As I trekked deeper into the woods, I encountered a variety of game, including black bears and wild pigs. The thrill of the hunt was palpable, and every moment was a testament to the beauty and challenge of the great outdoors. One of the highlights of the trip was spotting a majestic mule deer. With careful precision and respect for the animal, I took my shot. The experience was both humbling and exhilarating, reminding me of the importance of conservation and responsible hunting practices. Aoudad Hunting: The Poor Man’s Sheep Like countless other big game hunters across the U.S., I dream of one day roasting tenderloins in a high-altitude camp as the flickering firelight casts its glow on a set of wild sheep horns strapped to my backpack. Be it a fully curled Rocky Mountain bighorn, Dall, Stone or Desert, I don’t care — I just want to be a sheep hunter, the kind that the legendary Jack O’Connor was as he roamed the withering heights with his .270 in hand. Unfortunately, being a sheep hunter is my dream, not my reality thanks to staggeringly high hunting costs and precious few tags available through state draws. But there is hope for a wannabe sheep hunter like myself, hope that comes in the form of a beautiful nomadic animal with sweeping horns that have found their way to American shores. Those sheep are the imported aoudad sheep, or Barbary sheep. Native to the rocky, desert mountains of North Africa, the sheep have made themselves quite at home in the similarly dry aPost: 15 July 09:21
Lever-action rifles may seem antiquated, but for some folks, they offer a great combination of hunting aptitude and self-defense effectiveness. The X Model from Henry takes their proven action and adds a bit of a tactical flair with synthetic furniture, a short rail at the end of the fore-end, and a threaded muzzle. Muzzle brakes or a suppressor can be easily added, and even for a camp rifle, being able to easily attach a light is a well-thought-out attribute. It’s a short, handy rifle that can be operated quickly and maneuvered well in tight spaces and cycled very quickly. Your caliber selection will depend on your needs. If you’re dealing with lots of bears as well as two-legged threats, the .45-70 will be the way to go. Otherwise, the .357 or .44 mag options offer plenty of power for hunting deer, and offer increased magazine capacity. Not to mention that the increased barrel length will give you better performance than a handgun will, with mild to little recoil. MSRP: $970Post: 22 September 17:09
Field Tested: Browning Trail Cameras Trail cameras serve two purposes: tracking and security. Slimline options do their best at remaining undetected to human beings who might be trespassing on your property, while larger, higher-definition models will draw the most detail out of whatever sets it off. Earlier this year, my wife and I obtained an eight-acre piece of property that has remained untouched for nearly a decade. As such, it has become a bit of a sanctuary for animals that run off from the adjacent state game lands abutting its corner. Property of this nature is often desirable, as it typically makes for an easy hunt due to its long vacancy. However, for the same reason, it becomes attractive to those that want to have a private hunting experience without paying for land of their own. With that in mind, I scoured Browning’s website to find affordable cameras to serve my purposes, and came up with the Strike Force Gen 5 and the Dark Ops HD Max.Features The features on both camePost: 23 September 18:43

Sport hunting helped form a foundation for the preservation and conservation of wildlife in America. Most of the early legislation that formed the foundation for conservation and preservation in the United States was thanks to hunters themselves. Sport hunting was a major movement in nature preservation that widely benefitted conservation efforts from the 1880s-1920s. The reason hunters were so incentivized to preserve nature was to preserve their sport and the moral behind it. When hunting first came to America from Europe, it was viewed as a sport only for a small population of very wealthy people. When hunting shifted from an elitist sport for the rich to a larger majority, this larger group needed to learn to support game preservation. This was realized in the 1880s, when herds of buffalo quickly began to disappear. Some examples of the things that hunters accomplished in supporting game preservation, thus protecting the environment, between 1880 and 1920 include abolishing mPost: 11 November 16:46

What do modern European hunters wear and what hunting techniques are popular? Rule of thumb is: if you're invited and your party consists of more than 2, leave camo at home or in moderation (ie. only a cap or a mask). While loden and waxed cotton remains popular, modern hunting clothing is made to be comfortable, quiet, sturdy, warm and prefferably tick-proof. As for hunting techniques. -Hunting from a blind is the preferred method. Either low near the ground for birds or in a treestand or elevated blind for larger game. -Driven hunt is a popular second. Takes more people, is more expensive, but very spectacular. The driven hunt comes in many varieties, and is subject to many rules, traditions and rituals which vary by region. -Walking flushing hunt is popular in the wide open agricultural areas as well. Requires good dogs. -Stalking has quite a following as well. Although recently, I've heard a scientist say on a symposium: "95% of the hunters believe they belong to the 5% who can Post: 16 May 23:42
SUMMER PREP EQUALS A BETTER FALL DEER SEASON Don't wait until the season starts. It’s hard to think about frosty mornings at hunting camp this time of the year. The outside temperature for many of us is still hovering around the triple-digit mark, and the air is so thick you could probably squeeze water out of it if you made a fist. But now is exactly when you need to be putting in the work for the upcoming season. UPGRADE YOUR GEAR Think back to last season. Did a fogged scope cost you a big buck? Did your treestand squeak when you tried to get into position for a shot? Did you leave a hunt early or skip going out altogether because of inclement weather? Now is the time to remedy all those problems. Available stock on sporting goods always seems to be in short supply just before season. Don’t wait until the gear you need is sold out before you start shopping. Purchasing early also allows you to get familiar with your new equipment, particularly firearms and optics. Turkey hunting can be a dangerous sport. If you turkey hunt, this article could save your life or prevent you from taking a life. I don’t know directly or indirectly a person who has been shot deer hunting but I know indirectly through a friend that a hunting partner of his was killed and directly a friend of mine was shot but survived while turkey hunting. Here are some tips to prevent you from being shot or accidentally shooting someone else. • No. 1 rule, always completely and positively identify your target before you pull the trigger. All turkey hunters know to make the best kill shot, you must aim for the head of a gobbler. Shooting the body of a gobbler may only wound it. Never shoot at movement. • Since the colors of a gobbler’s head are red, white and blue, never wear those colors in the woods. Wear full camo so a hand or face isn’t mistaken for a gobbler’s head. • When setting up for a turkey to call, always try and set against a big tree that will protect your back andPost: 18 April 12:56
🏆2022 Guide of the Year: TYNE MCCAUGHEY!🤠 All of the award buckles every year are pretty cut and dry and require no thoughts, just a tape measure. After many hours of pillow talks, road trip talks, and head scratching, we feel very good choosing our great friend, Tyne McCaughey, for Guide of the Year. Tyne has proven his loyalty from the get-go. His tenacity as a hunter is unquestionable. His hunters all comment that he is like hunting with a buddy. “Tyne ain’t faking shit!”💪 His willingness to do whatever is needed in camp or the field to make the dream work does not go unnoticed. As tough and as old-school as Tyne is, I’ve been told by our younger assistants and trainee guides that Tyne has great patience in helping teach them all aspects of our profession. W/S Inertia-Operated Semi-Automatic Shotgun Review I recently had the opportunity to test the W/S inertia-operated semi-automatic shotgun, and I wanted to share my thoughts on its performance, design, and overall usability. As an avid shooter, I always seek firearms that balance reliability and ease of use, and the W/S shotgun came highly recommended by fellow enthusiasts. Pros: Reliability: One of the standout features of the W/S shotgun is its reliability. The inertia-operated system can function well even in less-than-ideal conditions, making it a solid choice for hunting and sport shooting. I tested it with various loads, and it cycled smoothly without any hiccups. Quick Follow-up Shots: The semi-auto action allows for quick follow-up shots, which is crucial during hunting or competitive shooting scenarios. I was able to maintain a good rhythm and accuracy when firing multiple rounds, which is a significant advantage over pump-action shotguns. Lightweight Design: The W/S shoPost: 21 December 12:02
Myotts COUNTRY LIFE Hand Engraved Dinnerware Set (1982) I recently came across an exquisite dinnerware set from Myotts® that caught my attention - particularly for its nostalgic charm and attention to detail. This set, dating back to 1982, is part of the COUNTRY LIFE collection, and it's evident that a lot of care went into its design and craftsmanship. First and foremost, the hand-engraved English scenes on each piece add a unique character that sets it apart from mass-produced dinnerware. The illustrations depict the culture and traditions of English hunting, hunting in England on horseback, the love of English hounds, the strength of passionate hunters, perfectly capturing the essence of real English country life and the traditions of hunters.
