Unveiling Traditional Hunting Methods in Africa: Skills That Endure. While modern firearms dominate hunting landscapes worldwide, Africa holds a rich heritage of traditional hunting methods, born from necessity and shaped by centuries of intimate knowledge of the land and its wildlife. These techniques, passed down through generations, represent a deep connection to the environment and a mastery of tracking, camouflage, and weapon crafting that can still offer valuable insights to the modern hunter. This article explores some of the most effective and enduring of these practices. 1. The Art of Tracking: Reading the Language of the Wild Before any weapon is employed, the traditional African hunter excels at tracking. This is not merely following footprints; it's interpreting a complex narrative etched into the earth. A skilled tracker can discern: Species Identification: Differentiating tracks based on size, shape, gait, and habitat. Animal Age and Sex: Clues within the track c

Siberia (/saɪˈbɪəriə/; Russian: Сибирь, tr. Sibir') is an extensive geographical region, constituting all of North Asia, from the Ural Mountains in the west to the Pacific Ocean in the east. It has been a part of Russia since the latter half of the 16th century, after the Russians conquered lands east of the Ural Mountains. Siberia is vast and sparsely populated, covering an area of over 13.1 million square kilometres (5,100,000 sq mi), but home to merely one-fifth of Russia's population. Novosibirsk and Omsk are the largest cities in the region. Because Siberia is a geographic and historic region and not a political entity, there is no single precise definition of its territorial borders. Traditionally, Siberia extends eastwards from the Ural Mountains to the Pacific Ocean, and includes most of the drainage basin of the Arctic Ocean. The river Yenisey divides Siberia into two parts, Western and Eastern. Siberia stretches southwards from the Arctic Ocean to the hills of north-central

By Frank Gentile, Hopewell, N.Y. It was October 2011, and I was back in my Chevy Tahoe on my way to another hunt. This time, instead of my son, I was traveling with my hunting buddies. My buddies and I had been on plenty of trips together before but never to Texas! Between the four of us and gear for six (two of our team opted to fly from New York to San Antonio), every single spare inch of space in the truck had been utilized. With each of us taking turns driving, we made it to Texas in about 20 hours. We got dinner and hotel rooms in Texarkana, and were back on the road early the next morning. With a day to spare before we were due at our hunting camp in Hondo, Texas, we headed south with plans to enjoy the city of San Antonio along the way. In San Antonio, we explored the Alamo, the River Walk and the Buckhorn Saloon and Texas Ranger Museum. What a great city! Our first order of business after arriving at the camp the next morning was to make sure that our rifles were on target.

A Navajo Indian in a bear suit, 1914. Navajo Indians donned a bear suit during a ceremonial ritual, embodying the spirit of the revered animal. For the Navajo, the bear symbolizes strength, healing, and protection.

How to Stalk a Pronghorn Antelope The heat of the merciless sun pounded the back of my neck as I glassed through the small gap of the lone cedar bush I was crouched behind. His handsomely colored face and long curved black horns seemed to fill the viewfinder as I studied every inch of him. He was a dandy goat, and there was nothing more I wanted to do at that moment than wrap my hands around his black, 16-inch horns. This ground-crawling, torturous stalk began some two hours ago, and needless to say my body ached from the countless gouges, pokes and prods from the seemingly endless supply of needle-sharp plants that inhabit this semi-arid landscape. Although I had whittled the mile down to a mere 110 yards, I could go no farther. It wasn’t because of my lack of sheer will, there was just no cover between me and my bedded prize. I could easily have reached out and touched him with the help of modern ballistics, but I receive no satisfaction from that fact. I wanted to get archery-close
