The Call of the Wild: Uncovering Hunting Calendar, Seasons and Strategies in County CLARE’S Countryside Understanding Hunting Seasons and Wildlife Management in County Clare County Clare, with its dramatic Atlantic coastline, rolling limestone plains, and dense woodlands, offers a distinctive hunting environment shaped by Ireland’s temperate climate and rural heritage. Unlike many countries where hunting seasons are set nationally, Ireland does not enforce federal hunting calendars , and in Clare, most hunting is arranged through private landowners and estate managers. The primary shooting season for game birds such as pheasants, partridges, and woodcock runs from October to February , while deer stalking — mainly for fallow and sika deer — is best between September and January . These dates align with animal behavior patterns and traditional land use practices. Compared to neighboring counties like Limerick or Kerry, Clare sees more guided hunts and conservation-focused culling due Post: 21 August 09:50

These days there are very few new products that I would actually call a “game changer.” Many are truthfully nothing more than a twist on an old idea or a slight improvement over something already available. When I first saw the new Primos Double Bull SurroundView hunting blinds at the January trade shows, I instantly said to myself, “game changer.” When I was able to hunt Axis deer in south Texas from one with a rifle in June, my opinion didn’t change. Since then I’ve had one at home and have been playing with it a lot in anticipation of some summer bow hunts. All I can say is, it’s something else. If you’re familiar with Double Bull pop-up blinds, then you need no convincing of their ruggedness and an interior configuration that's design is one that's well thought-out by hunters. My only beef with Double Bull blinds over the years is that, while their hub-and-pole system makes them solid as a rock once erected, putting up and taking the blinds down can be a bit of a challenge until Post: 25 October 10:20

Hunting in Ibanda: Uganda's Best-Kept Secret for hunters, Geography, Game Diversity, and Ethical Safari Traditions Demographics: Hunters in Ibanda Exact hunter numbers are not publicly available, but the region attracts both local subsistence hunters and international sportsmen. Foreign hunters typically book through licensed safari operators, while locals engage in small-scale hunting for food and pest control. The Uganda Wildlife Authority (UWA) monitors hunting activities to ensure sustainability. The morning sun burns away the mist clinging to Ibanda's rolling hills, revealing a landscape that seems plucked from an old hunter's dream. Here, where the savanna folds into forested valleys, a duiker's alarm call echoes like a starting pistol - nature's way of announcing the day's hunt has begun. Unlike Uganda's better-known reserves, Ibanda offers something increasingly rare: untouched wilderness where the only tracks you'll follow are those left by wildlife, not tourist vehicles. Hunting in Kabale: Geography and Natural Features, Hunting Demographics, and Game Species Diversity The first light in Kabale doesn't so much rise as it seeps through the mountain mists, slowly revealing a landscape that looks more like the Scottish Highlands than equatorial Africa. Somewhere in those damp hills, a bushbuck barks its alarm call—a sound that carries for miles in the crisp mountain air. This is hunting at elevation, where every step feels heavier, every shot more calculated, and the rewards are trophies forged in the crucible of altitude. The Roof of Uganda: Kabale’s Vertical Hunting Grounds Kabale’s terrain defies typical African hunting stereotypes. Here, the rules change: Bamboo Forests (2,500m+): Where giant forest hogs move like shadows through the fog Montane Meadows: Open slopes patrolled by solitary bushbuck rams with horns like scimitars Crater Lakes: Their steep walls create natural shooting galleries for waterfowl Volcanic Fissures: Hideouts for leopards tPost: 23 July 07:56
Property Line Law and Ethics Legally, provided a hunter has secured permission from the neighboring landowner, he can hang one, five or 20 treestands across and near the line that separates your property. He can walk around or drive a UTV there as much as he wants. Heck, he can pop up a tent and make deer camp. Property law is simple: You stay on your side of the line, and I’ll stay on mine. But step a boot across the boundary line without permission, and that’s obviously trespassing. If you go over and tear down a treestand like my fuming buddy Steve suggested — and what many of you would want to do in a similar situation — you’ll pile on the misdemeanor of petty theft or destruction of property. Call a game warden? Please. A property line dispute between deer hunters is not as much a matter of law as it is a matter of ethics.Post: 17 September 19:49
Hunting in Pointe-Noire: Coastal Ecosystems, Urban-Rural Hunting Demographics, and Game Access Hunting in Pointe-Noire region, located along the Atlantic coast of the Republic of the Congo, combines coastal biodiversity with the challenges of an expanding urban zone. Though better known as the country's economic capital, Pointe-Noire's surrounding districts, such as Tchissanga, Loango, and Hinda, retain patches of huntable terrain. Hunting in Pointe-Noire region blends suburban edge tracking, relic forest systems, and traditional knowledge with a strong undercurrent of regulatory oversight due to proximity to commercial activity. Natural Environment and Terrain for Hunting The area is defined by its coastal plain, mangrove fringes, secondary forests, and savannah patches inland. The Kouilou River basin plays a key ecological role in the movement of game and serves as a lifeline during the dry season (May to September). Taxidermy Is Art. No Debates Needed. 🎯 I hunt because I love nature. I mount trophies because I respect it. Taxidermy isn’t some weird obsession or macho flex. It’s the way I capture the wild — raw and honest. That moment when I locked eyes with a rutting buck, or the adrenaline when the boar came crashing through the thicket… a picture fades. A head mount? That’s memory solidified. That’s real. Some folks say it’s just “stuffed animals.” Yeah? Then you’ve never watched a true taxidermist breathe life back into glass eyes and cured hide. It takes more than glue and foam — it takes knowledge, precision, and soul. That’s craftsmanship. That’s art. These trophies on my wall? They aren’t kills. They’re chapters. They’re why I remember every sunrise I froze through, every footprint I followed, every time I sat in complete silence — just waiting. I don’t do it for show. I do it because the wild deserves to be remembered properly. Call it what you want. I call it respect in its purest,Post: 7 July 20:05
There's magic in the air. The first frosts of the year greet us each morning, and the tops of the highest peaks are dusted with snow. The colours are changing, and the Yukon's landscape is something to behold. It's moose hunting season, and I'm excited. What you'll see in these images is how tall the buckbrush in the valley is. You will have a few challenges if you want to stand in here and hunt moose. If you're lucky, the brush will make it impossible to see any bulls or cows further than a few hundred yards. Taking a shot? It's almost impossible unless the bull comes in hot to your call. I much prefer getting up on the hillsides around the valley where I can call effectively and glass massive areas. You can see one image of my father with the bull he shot. While we were down in the valley, we found a small hill to shoot from, and it gave use a fantastic shooting angle above the brush.Post: 30 May 09:14
How to Call in a Bull Elk Like a Calling Champion Do You Use These Techniques? You might expect a top elk caller to focus his hunting advice on proper call selection, volume, tone, timing or teamwork. But one Rocky Mountain Elk Foundation World Elk Calling Championship winner says perhaps the most critical step to calling in elk is how you set up to intercept an approaching bull. Corey Jacobsen of Boise, Idaho, is one of the most decorated world champion elk callers in the country, as well as a consistently successful bowhunter. Jacobsen offers the following key advice on calling elk into bow range: “The setup might be the most critical step," Jacobsen said. "It always plays a major role in determining the outcome of a hunt. I can’t count how many hunts have been blown by a bad setup — too much brush to shoot through, not enough cover to hide in, no shooting lanes, inconsistent wind currents, caught in the open, the list goes on and on. “I always repeat one word to myself when I’m sPost: 13 June 11:47

Scout from Space If you've looked into the night sky, you've noticed the many satellites now orbiting our planet. They're great tools for today's hunter. Google Earth uses satellite images and aerial photography to give bird's-eye views of elk country. Locate meadows, burns, roads, water, heavy-timber escape areas and more. You can even find places where the forest canopy thins to suggest hidden grazing spots for elk. Newer GPS units accept uploaded coordinates from Google Earth, allowing you to walk directly to and more efficiently ground-truth potential honeyholes. 2. Count Points Quickly In good habitat, a bull normally has a 5-point rack as a 2-1/2-year-old and a small 6-point rack the following year. Instantly distinguishiPost: 13 May 22:19

Belovezhskaya Pushcha, 1971. In the 1970s, Belovezhskaya Pushcha—known in Polish as Białowieża Forest—was one of Europe’s last and largest remaining tracts of primeval lowland forest, straddling the border between the Byelorussian Soviet Socialist Republic (part of the USSR) and the Polish People's Republic. This ancient woodland, a UNESCO World Heritage Site since 1979, was a sanctuary for Europe’s most iconic wildlife, including several species of deer that played a vital role in the ecosystem and cultural life of the region. During the 1970s, the forest was under strict state protection on both sides of the border, though management approaches differed. In the Soviet sector (Belarus), the forest was managed as a state reserve and forestry zone, while in Poland, the core area was a national park with limited human intervention. Despite Cold War divisions, scientific cooperation and conservation efforts continued, particularly regarding large mammals, including deer. Ecology and BePost: 23 September 21:55

Hunting in Kinshasa: Urban Outskirts, Cultural Hunting Heritage, and Ecological Contrasts The Ecological Mosaic of Kinshasa and Its Surroundings Although Kinshasa is best known as the bustling capital of the Democratic Republic of the Congo, its periphery is marked by a contrasting landscape of savannah patches, lowland forests, wetlands, and rivers. These transitional zones between dense urbanization and the natural world provide habitat for small game species and support limited traditional hunting. The areas along the Ndjili and Congo Rivers, as well as nearby forest fragments, represent the last vestiges of wild space in this growing metropolis. Demography In Kinshasa itself, hunting is largely absent due to urban sprawl. However, in peri-urban and rural zones on the outskirts—such as Maluku, Kimwenza, and areas toward Kwilu—hunting remains a subsistence activity. It is practiced by small-scale farmers, fishermen, and migrant families who retain ties to traditional village lifePost: 1 August 18:59
