Tennessee Moves to Later Turkey Season, 2-Bird Bag Limit, No Fanning on Public Land After extensive discussion and comment, the Tennessee Fish and Wildlife Commission approved big changes for next year's turkey hunters The Tennessee Fish & Wildlife Commission voted on a slew of big changes for the 2023 spring turkey season during a series of open meetings June 2 and 3, 2022. You can watch the full meetings here and here. So what do the changes look like? The first is actually a change to the trapping regulations, with a year-round trapping season now allowed for raccoons and opossums — critters that are considered among the worst nest predators of wild turkeys. The hunting season for those animals will remain as-is (July 1 to March 15), but the daily bag limit for both species will be doubled for hunters. These tiny critters the size of a guinea pig, are the speediest and hardest working animals in the alpine zone of the mountains. They are Lagomorphs and closely related to rabbits. They spend most of their days gathering tundra grasses and wildflowers to store in their winter food stashes to be able to survive the cold harsh mountain winters. I spend numerous days and hours each summer up high in the Rocky mountains of Colorado, observing and trying to photograph these little speedsters. Here is the second set of photos. All images captured with a Nikon Z8 and Nikkor 800mm F6.3 lens, some with a 1.4x teleconverter for focal length of 1120mm. Most are captured with a shutter speed of 1/4000 sec, F7.1 or F8, various ISO's up to 20,0000, handheld and cropped.

There’s not a better reason to explore the reaches of our well-forested state, and there’s not an animal that’s better-suited to live there. Some days you find them, some days you don’t. To me this dichotomy represents the greatest draw of hunting hares: They’re routinely elusive but occasionally attainable, at once an animal that children’s hunting dreams are made of yet still wholly capable of making even the wisest feel like an idiot. I hunt hares exclusively with a rimfire rifle equipped with open sights. Not every day one gets the privilege of hunting on these beautiful mountains surrounded by wolves, bears, ibex, and wild boars amongst other creatures. This majestic and huge bull was spotted on our first hunting day, and from that moment we knew he was the one we wanted, which somehow, made our adventure even more special. Trophy aside, the way this Maral patrolled his area was a clear sign of dominance and no other bull dared to confront him during the 3 days we tried to cut distance with him. Regarding the trophy, the weight of the antlers -despite having to wait for the skull to dry out completely, where the expected weight loss could be up to 2 kg- proves this will clearly be the biggest Maral harvested in the area this year. I came here single and in a matter of two months I got married and a year later I got pregnant. A number of adversities have come my way, the harshest of which is my current state of unemployment. We have decided to move to a place far away from here, to my grandmother's place. It's a small cottage but it will be our home by the sea on a Greek island.
