Hunting in ZAGHOUAN: Hunting Communities, Laws and Geography, Demographics of Hunting Communities of Tunisia (PART II) Hunting Seasons and Optimal Times The hunting season in Zaghouan, like in other parts of Tunisia, is regulated by the national hunting calendar, with the main hunting season running from October to February. The cooler months are ideal for hunting, as wildlife is more active, and the weather is more favorable for outdoor activities. Early mornings and late afternoons are the best times for hunting, as animals tend to be more active during these times. For small game like rabbits and hares, hunters typically head out early in the morning, when the animals are most likely to be foraging. Bird hunting, particularly for partridges, pigeons, and migratory species, is most productive during the fall and early winter months. These birds migrate through the region, making it an excellent time for hunters. Waterfowl hunting, though not as prevalent in Zaghouan as in other pa

5 Factors for Rut Hunting Success 1. Weather Having the right weather can influence how much rutting activity you see — or don't see — on any given hunt. A cold front with a little rain to break a stale weather pattern, followed by a clear, crisp morning can seem to bring deer out of the woodwork. On the flip side, warm weather can slow the action to a crawl. Contrary to popular belief, the weather doesn't determine when deer breed. But it does influence how much of that breeding activity you see out in the open during daylight. Does often hug tight to thick cover when in estrus anyway, and they move even less when it's warmer than average. Bucks don't seem to cruise in the open as often, or for as long, during those unseasonably warm days, either. Don’t Miss: Big Bucks in Nasty Places 2. Available Bedding Cover Rut tactics are almost always terrain-based. So if you aren’t hunting around the type of quality bedding cover deer need this time of year, action will likely be minimal. Fi

Russian hunter and a red deer. Hand-to-hand combat… Many so-called animal defenders, after watching this video, would start to panic. "A bloodthirsty hunter mocks and torments a kind deer." But only hunters and real experts in the field of fauna will be able to really understand what is happening on the video: None of the 3 hunters present are trying to shoot the deer. One hunter is trying to defend himself, and the hunter in white wants to scare the deer. The third one films the fight between a deer and a hunter on video and is very amused by what is happening. It is obvious that the deer is in the rut, it has a mating season. At this time, they are very aggressive and, under the influence of hormones, attack everything they see. And the hunters, apparently, do not have the appropriate license to kill deer, and they do not want to break the law, they are just trying to protect themselves. During the rut period, which is the mating season for deer, male deer (bucks) can become high

SOUTH DAKOTA RANCHERS UPSET OVER NUMBER OF ELK CONTINGENCY LICENSES South Dakota ranchers are angry over the number of elk contingency licenses recently issued across four units, especially because they were involved in the creation of the new elk management plan in 2015. South Dakota Game, Fish and Parks (SDGFP) announced this week that there would be 20 of these licenses in units that span both public and private property, the Black Hills Pioneer reports. The elk contingency licenses are used to “reduce the elk population in areas that have been heavily affected by drought,” said Andrew Norton, SDGFP senior big game biologist. There is not set location for where these licenses are issued. Basically, it’s based upon where the elk are “relative to the department’s objective” so that the elk population can be reduced “in order to improve grazing conditions on forest service land that ranchers lease.” Yet, Aaron Thompson, president of the Spearfish Livestock Association, Eric Jenning

Yes, beautifully managed trophy hunting by Zambezi Delta Safaris in 500,000 acre Hunting Block 11 has increased native wildlife to such high numbers that they were able to reintroduce cheetahs, a predator missing from the area for at least 100 years. Cabela's Family Foundation is a big part of this program. Four cheetah were released this day. I got this shot by running a GoPro 10 on video mode atop a small tripod while I operated a Canon R6 and 150-600mm Sigma. Lots of good video from both cameras, but this single frame pulled from the GoPro captured the essence of wildlife restoration advanced by and funded by dedicated sport/trophy hunters. Evolution of hunting laws and wildlife conservation/management Upon what concepts are hunting policies and laws based? Wildlife management and hunting policies have evolved over time, based largely on the “public trust doctrine,” which regards wildlife as held in the public trust and managed by scientifically based regulations. During the last century, sportsmen-conservationists demanded that their government put in place agencies, institutions, laws and regulations to conserve wildlife on behalf of the citizens. As part of that demand, sportsmen/conservationists advocated ethics and self policing by any and all who partake of America’s wild bounty. The laws, rules and regulations governing hunting form a framework for a system that is designed to provide surpluses of certain species of wildlife for hunting and fishing, revenue from which funds the conservation of all wildlife, including species that aren’t hunted. This system provides the agility for wildlife managers to respond to c

Less Lethal Wolf Ammo? Roughly 30 local ranchers gathered at the fairgrounds in Carey, Idaho, last week to talk wolves. But this was far from the typical wolf discussion. The workshop, possibly the first of many hosted by Defenders of Wildlife, took an unusual and widely unacknowledged tack: Don't shoot the predator, protect the prey. The morning served as a crash course in a host of non-lethal deterrents to wolf predation, from guard dogs to grazing rotations. It also marked the first attempt by Defenders to share with the public lessons learned over the past three years by the Wood River Wolf Project. Defenders of Wildlife spokeswoman Suzanne Stone says the project has field-tested numerous tools for decreasing livestock losses to predators, an approach that replaces the habit of killing problem animals with the concept of coexistence. "If you do nothing and kind of rely on the traditional lethal control methods routinely used by [U.S. Department of Agriculture] Wildlife Services f
