The Thrill of the Hunt: Connecting with Nature Hunting has been an integral part of human culture for centuries, serving not only as a means of sustenance but also as a unique opportunity to connect with nature. For many, it is more than just a sport; it’s a way to appreciate the wild, understand animal behavior, and develop a deep respect for the environment. The thrill of the hunt comes from the challenge it presents. Whether tracking a deer through the woods or patiently waiting in a blind for waterfowl, each outing is an adventure. The Yellowstone Travelers, Wandering an unexpected path. Through the seasons of rain amongst the greens, bright sunshine of warmth, fallen leaves of gold, and darkness housed in cold, they step with heavy hooves of history across a vast forested ecosystem reserved for them; their home and their recovery. Here, even what's for us, remains for them. This protected world stretches for nearly 3,500 square miles across these mountains, an almost entirely untouched wilderness. Below, a short 142 miles of pavement carves a Grand Loop where most of Yellowstone's human visitors can be found. But even these 142 miles belong to the wild residents, and they will often use them as they please. This is, of course, the path of least resistance, and they recognize it as such. Make no mistake, the iconic bison herds of Yellowstone are never forced to use these paved miles. They use them simply because they want to, not because they have to. These are fascinating moments of unique circumstance, and I

When it rains, it pours: Bangladesh wildlife trade booms during monsoon The illegal wildlife trade in Bangladesh increases during the wet season due to a shortage of livelihoods and poor surveillance, a study has found. Killing and trading wildlife has been illegal in Bangladesh since 2012, but a culture of hunting means the problem still persists, wildlife officials say. Wildlife markets trade in animals and parts from species such as tigers and crocodiles, with the more lucrative end of the trade thriving in areas with a weak law enforcement presence and close proximity to a seaport or airport. Efforts to tackle the trade are limited by law enforcement restrictions, with the Wildlife Crime Control Unit (WCCU) lacking the authority to arrest suspects and reliant on local agencies for investigations and legal action. DHAKA — It’s the monsoon season in Bangladesh, where the annual rains are both a boon for farmers and a worry for many living in flood-prone areas. For the country’s wild

CNW- The Government of Antigua and Barbuda has denied its representatives on the International Whaling Commission (IWC) are assisting with efforts to repeal the whaling ban. Whaling is the process of hunting whales for their usable products such as meat and blubber, which can be turned into a type of oil that became increasingly important in the Industrial Revolution In a statement released yesterday, the government said, “Cabinet has NOT agreed to repeal the moratorium on whale hunting and is unaware of any statement to the contrary.” The government of Antigua and Barbuda issued the statement after international media outlets and marine charities reported that Antigua and Barbuda had proposed the repeal of the moratorium on whaling alongside Japan and several other nations. Marine wildlife protection charity, OceanCare, claimed Antigua and Barbuda and countries which support the lifting of the ban proposed that whales be seen as a food source to secure food and nutritional securit

UNIJOS employs local hunters, vigilantes, to secure campus, hostels Worried by the security situation in its campus and hostels, the management of the University of Jos (UNIJOS), has revealed that it has engaged the services of local hunters and vigilantes to help secure the students on campus and their hostels. This was made known on Tuesday by the outgoing Vice-Chancellor of the university, Prof. Sebastian Maimako, during the valedictory session to mark the end of his five-year tenure. “It is no longer news that the security situation in the country is quite tenuous,” Prof. Maimako said. Austrian regions allow controversial wolf hunting Vienna (AFP) – Several regions of Austria have allowed the controversial killing of wolves after reporting an increase in livestock attacks, sparking debate in the Alpine EU member. The World Wildlife Fund (WWF) says the orders to kill the wolves violate European law, which lists them as protected animals. In the southern province of Carinthia, five wolves have been killed so far this year under legislation introduced in January. The killing of eight more has been authorised, according to authorities. Neighbouring Tyrol, known for cattle grazing freely on mountain pastures, has authorised the killing of six wolves -- yet to be carried out -- under a decree from February, according to province spokesman Maximilian Brandhuber. "Time and again wolves are sighted near settlements and kill livestock," he told AFP this week, adding that evidence of their presence has "risen sharply since 2019." After disappearing in the 19th century, th

Cold and Snowy Conditions to Greet Wisconsin Deer Hunters Hunters couldn't ask for better conditions when Wisconsin's annual nine-day gun deer season opens Saturday. MADISON, Wis. (AP) — Hunters can expect near-perfect conditions when Wisconsin's annual nine-day gun deer season opens Saturday. Wisconsin Public Radio reported Thursday that temperatures in the 20s and 30s will allow hunters to sit in one area comfortably if they choose and snow-covered ground will make deer more visible and easier to track. The only issue could be wind, which could affect deer movement and make things tougher for hunters, said Jeff Pritzl, state Department of Natural Resources deer program specialist. DNR officials told WPR that they expect to sell about 550,000 licenses this year. The agency sold 564,440 licenses last year. License sales have been trending down for more than 20 years, slipping about 1.5% annually since 2000 as older hunters age out of the sport faster than young people are taking

Skylarks, starlings and mistle thrushes: Endangered songbirds licensed to be killed for sport in UK Skylarks, starlings and mistle thrushes are among the red-listed species approved to be hunted by falconers. Should endangered wild birds be hunted for sport? It sounds like an odd question to be asking in 2023, in the midst of a biodiversity crisis. Yet, at a time when many avian species in the UK are under threat of regional extinction, government data reveals falconers are permitted to hunt rare songbirds. The data, released this week by government watchdog Natural England, has caused concern among environmentalists. What is falconry and how is it regulated in the UK? Falconry involves hunting wild animals in their natural habitat using a trained bird of prey. There are reportedly around 25,000 falconers in the UK. The sport itself dates back hundreds of years, and it has seen a resurgence in recent times. While it remains legal throughout Britain, many outside the hobby are u

🇺🇸 As you leave the tree line below after a long and steep hike, the alpine terrain above us welcomes us with so many Chamois that it becomes really difficult to decide which “bouc” to choose. It was in those moments of chaos -with so many chamois chasing each other and running around- that our hunter proved to have nerves of steel by patiently waiting my indications. At 228 meters, he was able to place a perfect shot on this outstanding Balkan Chamois! 🇨🇦 ~ ~ 🇪🇸 Dejando la línea de árboles por debajo de nosotros tras un ascenso bastante largo, el terreno alpino nos recibía con tal cantidad de rebecos que, elegir uno se convertía casi en un problema. Fox Foxes are small to medium-sized, omnivorous mammals belonging to several genera of the family Canidae. They have a flattened skull, upright, triangular ears, a pointed, slightly upturned snout, and a long bushy tail (or brush). Twelve species belong to the monophyletic "true foxes" group of genus Vulpes. Approximately another 25 current or extinct species are always or sometimes called foxes; these foxes are either part of the paraphyletic group of the South American foxes, or of the outlying group, which consists of the bat-eared fox, gray fox, and island fox. Foxes live on every continent except Antarctica. The most common and widespread species of fox is the red fox (Vulpes vulpes) with about 47 recognized subspecies. The global distribution of foxes, together with their widespread reputation for cunning, has contributed to their prominence in popular culture and folklore in many societies around the world. The hunting of foxes with packs of hounds, long an established pursuit

Wisconsin Known for cheese, farm fields, big hardwood timber, and the Green Bay Packers, the Badger State is also among the states with the most deer, at least according to Kip Adams, a wildlife biologist and chief conservation officer of the National Deer Association. While Wisconsin doesn’t estimate its deer herd numbers, Jeffrey Pritzl, a wildlife biologist with the Wisconsin DNR, provided some insight. “We don’t generate a statewide deer population,” he said, “because it’s a really big number that doesn’t translate well to the individual hunting experience due to widely varied deer densities. However, it’s safe to say that there are well over a million deer, especially pre-deer season. In our online Deer Metrics System, we provide a graph of the statewide post-hunting season population. Some areas may have 10 deer per square mile, and others have more than 100. Our highest densities are in east-central farmlands.” Even though Ohio, Iowa, Illinois, Kansas, and Kentucky get tons of
