7 Reasons Why OTC Elk Tags Beat Draw Tags If you want to spend more time in the elk woods and have more chances to succeed, then over-the-counter elk tags are the way to go At least four different bulls bugled practically nonstop all morning long as I flanked a herd swarmed by satellite bulls. One beautiful 6x6 with a lovesick bugle grew attached to my cow calling around midmorning, but when he got to 60 yards — no shot opportunity — and didn’t see a cow, his interest fizzled. He rejoined the ensemble of bugling bulls. I continued chasing bugles, and at around noon, I came eye to eye with a massive old 6x6 at 14 yards. A well-placed arrow into the front of his chest quickly took effect, and my first bull ever was down within 100 yards. That hunt wasn’t guided, or in a unit that took me years to draw. It was instead on an over-the-counter tag on U.S. Forest Service lands. We’re often told that OTC hunting looks nothing like the hunts seen on outdoor television. Hunting in Zimbabwe Set to Beat Levels Before Pandemic Struck The $100 million sector sees sales growing 15% this year Nation offers 500 licenses to tourists to kill elephants Zimbabwe’s hunting industry expects to attract more visitors this year than before the coronavirus pandemic, even as the war in Ukraine and other economic challenges weigh on numbers. The hunting season, currently underway in the southern African nation, is experiencing “exponential growth” from traditional markets including the US, Emmanuel Fundira, president of the Safari Operators Association of Zimbabwe, said by phone from Harare on Monday. Revenues are forecast to be 15% higher this year than the $100 million earned before the pandemic, Fundira said. The bounce back will help the industry recover from the freezing of global travel in 2020 as governments shut down borders to contain the virus. The lack of revenue made it difficult to sustain wilderness areas, villages and animals. Hunting is expecting to luPost: 5 December 09:24

The Hanoverian Scenthound: A Tracker's Reliable Partner For serious hunters who prioritize accuracy and perseverance above all else, the Hanoverian Scenthound ( Hannoverscher Schweisshund) deserves a close look. This isn't a flashy, multi-purpose breed, but a highly specialized tracking dog bred for one thing: relentlessly pursuing wounded game. Quarry: What a Hanoverian Scenthound Hunts The Hanoverian Scenthound's forte is tracking wounded ungulates. That means deer (primarily red deer, roe deer, and fallow deer), wild boar, and, in some regions, elk or moose. They are not typically used for birds, small game, or predators. Their focus is solely on following the scent trail of blood or disturbed ground left by injured animals. Where You'll Find Them Hunting Historically developed in Germany, the Hanoverian Scenthound's heartland remains in Central Europe. Skylarks, starlings and mistle thrushes: Endangered songbirds licensed to be killed for sport in UK Skylarks, starlings and mistle thrushes are among the red-listed species approved to be hunted by falconers. Should endangered wild birds be hunted for sport? It sounds like an odd question to be asking in 2023, in the midst of a biodiversity crisis. Yet, at a time when many avian species in the UK are under threat of regional extinction, government data reveals falconers are permitted to hunt rare songbirds. The data, released this week by government watchdog Natural England, has caused concern among environmentalists. What is falconry and how is it regulated in the UK? Falconry involves hunting wild animals in their natural habitat using a trained bird of prey. There are reportedly around 25,000 falconers in the UK. The sport itself dates back hundreds of years, and it has seen a resurgence in recent times. While it remains legal throughout Britain, many outside the hobby are uPost: 17 November 18:01

The Mighty Dachshund: Small Dog, Big Hunting Power The Dachshund, often lovingly referred to as the "wiener dog", may be small, but it's a true powerhouse in the world of hunting. Originally bred in Germany, Dachshunds were designed for one primary purpose: to be fierce and determined hunting dogs, excelling at tracking and chasing burrowing animals like badgers, rabbits, and foxes. With their unique, low-to-the-ground muscular build, they can dig into dens and pursue prey where larger dogs can't go. Their keen sense of smell and exceptional tracking skills make them reliable companions for following a scent trail over long distances. Despite their size, Dachshunds have a bold and fearless nature, unafraid to confront prey directly. These dogs are not only strong but also agile. Their long, sturdy legs help them move swiftly when chasing animals, and their sharp reflexes make them adept at navigating through forests and fields. Post: 8 November 12:45

Review of the Pulsar Helion XQ38F Thermal Imager I recently purchased the Pulsar Helion XQ38F thermal imager, and after extensive use, I feel it's time to share my experience. Overall, this device has exceeded my expectations in various areas, but it does come with a few drawbacks that need addressing. Pros: Real-Time Video Transmission: One of the standout features of the Helion XQ38F is its ability to stream video in real time to iOS and Android devices via the Stream Vision app. This is incredibly useful for sharing observations with friends or colleagues and enhances the overall user experience. The app is intuitive and straightforward to navigate, making it easy to pair with mobile devices. Image Quality: The thermal imaging provided by the XQ38F is exceptional. With a high-resolution sensor, the clarity and details captured in the thermal spectrum are impressive. This proves invaluable for wildlife observation, search and rescue operations, or even home inspections. DurabiliPost: 12 January 18:29

Post: 14 July 09:57
