Eskimos started using sunglasses more than a thousand years ago! Incredibly, but it’s a fact. We have already written recently that Inuit (Eskimos) invented some items that are now used by all of humanity. As for example, a waterproof fabric, an anorak jacket and a kayak boat. But there is something even more incredible! Everyone knows that on a sunny day, the bright sun makes your eyes blind. To hunt in bright, blinding light is simply impossible. Most of us use sunglasses in the south and we perceive them exclusively as an accessory for hot countries. But that's because only few of us have been to the north. And we can't even imagine how the sunlight intensifies after reflecting off the white snow. Long before us, Eskimos, according to one version, invented the first sunglasses. Of course, they did not have darkened glass… But they carved it out of bone or wood the likeness of modern glasses with thin slits for the eyes, capable of softening and limiting excessive light. Tiger Dog Hunter Is Released. Watch the video. An impressive video of the Ministry of Natural Resources and Environment releasing Amur tiger recently captured in the Khasansky district, which devoured a bunch of dogs there. Look how big he is, he's kicked his sides pretty well on the dogs. It was taken far away and released on the border of Khabarovsk and Primorsky Territories. Since the beginning of 2025, a large number of cases of Amur tiger attacks on domestic animals have been recorded in Primorsky Krai (Eastern Russia). Residents of some villages began to fear not only for their pets, but also for their lives. At the end of the year, attacks occurred almost every day. For a long time, the tiger went unpunished. Hunters could not be involved in the capture of the killer tiger. Amur tigers in Russia are under special protection, including under the personal protection of President Vladimir Putin. The Amur tiger is the ruler of vast territories, the area of which is 300-500 km2 fo

Farewell to My Beloved Gitane – 13 Incredible Years Au revoir ma belle Gitane, my first draht, and a dog with an exceptional passion. For 13 years, you showed an incredible spirit and strength. Whether pulling a wild boar from a thicket or catching it minutes later in a pond in the middle of the plains, your power and persistence never failed. In the same day, you'd point out woodcocks, and I might have missed them, but you were always spot on. You've endured so much, with countless staples because nothing could stop your sheer will. You've also left behind a legacy, producing amazing dogs with Clint du Moulin de Berlemont: Jasper, Lacoste, Laïka, Lisière, N'Gumper, Nestor, and Oural. You were so full of trust, even staying loose in the back of the pickup truck on the highway, heading to Aisne for breeding. You truly earned your honors, my old Gitane. Your legacy lives on in every hunt, every memory, and every pup you've brought into this world. #DrahtHaar #HuntingDogs #FarewellToA

Last weekend, I embarked on an unforgettable hunting trip in the heart of California’s wilderness. The journey began at the crack of dawn, with the sun casting a golden hue over the sprawling landscapes of the San Bernardino National Forest. Armed with my gear and a sense of adventure, I set out to explore the rugged terrain. The forest was alive with the sounds of nature, from the rustling leaves to the distant calls of wildlife. As I trekked deeper into the woods, I encountered a variety of game, including black bears and wild pigs. The thrill of the hunt was palpable, and every moment was a testament to the beauty and challenge of the great outdoors. One of the highlights of the trip was spotting a majestic mule deer. With careful precision and respect for the animal, I took my shot. The experience was both humbling and exhilarating, reminding me of the importance of conservation and responsible hunting practices. After a successful day in the field, I set up camp under the starlit

Today was a great day duck hunting! It all started early in the morning when we went to the lake in search of prey. Luck smiled on us, and after a few hours we returned home with duck game. The feeling of satisfaction is indescribable when you independently tracked and caught your prey. Duck hunting is not only a way to relax and spend time in nature, it is also an opportunity to test your skills and endurance. Each duck matinee is a real test for the hunter, and only a true professional can successfully cope with this challenge. Ducks are smart and dexterous creatures, which is why hunting them requires all our care and dexterity. But when you were able to emerge victorious from this fight, a feeling of pride and respect for nature fills you to the limit. Duck hunting is not only an exciting activity, but also a way to enjoy nature and spend time with friends. What are your memories and emotions from duck hunting? Tell us in the comments! 🦆

Cambodia’s wildlife still faces high risk of hunting Amid a shortage of rangers and with villagers facing financial difficulties, officials said Cambodia’s wildlife continues to face a high risk of poaching. Sreng Cheaheng, head of the department of environment in Stung Treng, told CamboJA that the selling of illegal wild meat has significantly decreased in the province with education and enforcement. But, he said, poaching continues as people rely on it for their income. ‘’As of today, wild meat selling still can be seen but it is in a small amount compared to before. The authorities work every day to observe where people sell these wild meats. However, it is impossible to completely stop it because it is a part of the income of residents living in this province,” he said. Cheaheng told CamboJA that arrests have dropped, with just two people arrested for hunting wild meat last year. ‘’There are different types of wildlife that have been hunted but wild boar and deer are on the top

Generational family of hunters from Hersey says anyone can get into hunting Its not often that you see generations of hunting being passed down. But for the Livermore family, hunting isn’t just for the sport, its for the stories and experiences. “Just put down the cell phones and get out in the woods,” said father of the family, Trent Livermore. Wednesday is opening day for rifle season and the Livermore family took to the great outdoors. “You just got to get it. Get after it. You get you gotta, you can’t be afraid,” said Trent. Hunting was once predominantly done by adults and men, but recently more women and children have gotten into the sport. “I think a lot more women are getting into it, which is great to see. I think a lot more children are getting into it as well,” said mother of the family, Tammy Livermore. Tammy is one of those women, she has been hunting for 27 years and is well known in the community. “I hunt turkey, deer. I’ve shot a bobcat. Pretty much anything. Yo

Day 2 of 5. Oklahoma. I packed up camp on the lake and headed to the river. The water was all the way up to 52 degrees after being in the low 30s the week before! I setup on a deep hole (20ft. deep) with a big inside eddy. I caught a 3 pound dinner cat within 2 minutes of setting up, then another small fish 2 minutes after that, then this surprise January Flathead about 5 minutes later! 3 fish within the first 15 minutes was a great start then it died down. After a couple hours and some missed bites I put 2 rods on the downstream side of the hole in about 6 feet of water and shortly after I got a good blue! I had fried catfish for dinner and slept like a baby with no bites the rest of the night. I love camping on the river and not just observing wildlife but being apart of it. From Coyotes howling to wild pigs squealing to big blue cats biting the crap out of me I love it!

New Jersey black bear hunt back on The New Jersey black bear hunt is back on. Yesterday, hunters took to the field only a day later than anticipated. The hunt had been delayed following an emergency court challenge filed by animal protection groups. The groups argued that a loophole was used to reinstate the hunt, alleging that the black bear population was slow to reproduce. However, the Appellate Division of the New Jersey Superior Court ruled that the hunt will continue as planned, according to News 12. As GOHUNT previously reported, Gov. Phil Murphy had canceled the controversial annual bear hunts as part of his campaign promise. As a result, the state canceled the hunt in 2020 and didn’t hold one in 2021. He changed his mind in 2022 following an increase in bear sightings and bear-human interactions as well as a potential population tipping point of over 4,000 bears within the next two years. The New Jersey Department of Fish and Wildlife will allocate 11,000 black bear hunt

Will Brantley and Mike Hanback talk long-range glassing, big bucks in Indiana, and pre-season plans in the Realtree Outpost podcast It's late August and still hot, but there's hope in the air, too. Kentucky's squirrel season opened this past weekend, and Tennessee's early three-day "velvet" archery season opened today. With luck, I'll be in a treestand this weekend. We're right on the eve of one of the best times of year, and there's no better time to debut Season 3 of Realtree's Outpost Podcast. This week, I joined fellow blogger and Big Deer TV host Mike Hanback to discuss a variety of pre-season topics. We covered long-range glassing tactics (as detailed here), and discussed why they're still so effective, especially in the early season, and even more so than trail cameras. We discussed plans for this fall, strategies for hunting the drought-stricken West, and personal goals for another season. Then we shifted gears to talk about Josh Honeycutt's recent (and fascinating) story on

Aoudad Hunting: The Poor Man’s Sheep Like countless other big game hunters across the U.S., I dream of one day roasting tenderloins in a high-altitude camp as the flickering firelight casts its glow on a set of wild sheep horns strapped to my backpack. Be it a fully curled Rocky Mountain bighorn, Dall, Stone or Desert, I don’t care — I just want to be a sheep hunter, the kind that the legendary Jack O’Connor was as he roamed the withering heights with his .270 in hand. Unfortunately, being a sheep hunter is my dream, not my reality thanks to staggeringly high hunting costs and precious few tags available through state draws. But there is hope for a wannabe sheep hunter like myself, hope that comes in the form of a beautiful nomadic animal with sweeping horns that have found their way to American shores. Those sheep are the imported aoudad sheep, or Barbary sheep. Native to the rocky, desert mountains of North Africa, the sheep have made themselves quite at home in the similarly dry a

How to Track a Buck in the Snow Have You Ever Slipped Up on a Deer in the Snow? No doubt about it, the vast majority of whitetail hunting today is done from some type of elevated platform – treestand, tripod or shooting house. That wasn’t always the case. To this day, many northwoods hunters still practice the age-old art of tracking in the snow. So can you, and here are a few tips to help you along the trail. To follow a track you first need to find one, and the more ground you cover the better the odds. Typically, the big woods hunters will drive the backwoods roads before daylight. These are often dirt logging roads, some accessible only by 4WD vehicle, which is what you want. Less Traffic, More Deer You’ll usually find an inverse correlation – the less vehicle traffic, the more deer traffic. If you really want to get away from the crowd, and back where the big bucks roam, unload your ATV and ride the least-accessible roads and trails into the more remote areas. Reading Tracks Once

Early Season Hunting Conditions Depending on where you hunt and exactly when you’re in the field, early-season hunting can be brutal. For example, sitting in a ground blind near an antelope watering hole or putting the stalk on a Western muley can cause you to sweat like you were trying to earn a spot in the NFL combine. You’d think that sitting perched in a tree would offer some relief due to the wind, but that’s not always true either. Hot and humid conditions without any breeze can be just as tough 15 feet up. Traditional cotton shirts or blue jeans don’t work well in these situations because they don’t breathe well or wick your sweat away. As a result, your clothes just stay wet and eventually start to stink. Not ideal for hunting, especially if you’re on a multi-day trip out west. At the same time, some southern or western hunts may take you through some challenging terrain, where briars, thorns, and other vegetation tears at your hunting clothes. That means your lightweight hunt

5 SURPRISING FACTS ABOUT ELK ANTLERS 1. ELK ANTLER RETENTION IS TESTOSTERONE-DRIVEN Elk antlers begin to form immediately after the last set is shed. Because elk antler grows faster than any other tissue in its body, a healthy bull can grow nearly one inch of antler every single day, leaving them with a fully formed set of antlers within the next few months. In many cases, disputes with predators or other bulls will cause these antlers to break off, but they’ll actually shed on their own if left undamaged. Why? Because an elk’s ability to retain its antlers is driven by its testosterone levels. After mating season ends, the level of doe pheromones in the air decreases, causing bull testosterone to drop as well. Once a bull loses enough testosterone, its body will pick up on the change and begin to shed its antlers in response. 2. DIFFERENT ELK POPULATIONS HAVE UNIQUE ANTLERS There are many subspecies of elk, and at least six variants live in North America. Over time and multiple gene

Animals get better care than their owners, study finds A new study conducted by animal welfare charity Brooke suggests that pet owners are more likely to take their pet for a routine check-up at the vet than go to the doctor for a check-up themselves. The study, which was conducted ahead of World Veterinary Day this Saturday, also found that almost 7 in 10 pet owners would always go to their vet in the first instance to get reliable advice on their animal’s wellbeing, ahead of consulting friends and family or checking social media. As 9 in 10 people agree that vets are a vital part of the community, Brooke is highlighting this importance by putting a spotlight on vets all around the world. Vet and TV broadcaster Dr Scott Miller said the findings show a huge reliance on vet services and highlight just how important vet professionals are to people in the UK. “This is something we see replicated around the world, especially within the communities Brooke works in where people depend o

How to Stalk a Black Bear It was a lazy October day, remarkable only in that I was outside and away from my desk with the forest an utter cornucopia of hunting possibilities. I was bowhunting tassel-eared squirrels with my good friends Dave Faiello and Pat Keith in New Mexico’s northern Gila National Forest. Essentially, it was an excuse to sit around campfires in the evenings with good company while also hunting something during daylight hours. And while western squirrel hunting doesn’t approach the allure of more glamorous big-game, it’s always an action-packed, enjoyable endeavor and nothing to get snooty about. It was nearly lunchtime, and I was just a couple bushytails away from a limit. I was slipping along a ridgeline with a recurve bow holding a quiver full of small-game heads, looking for the telltale flicker of a puffy tail in the pines or a bouncing rodent atop the acorn-laden understory. In the back of my mind, there was also the long shot of something else. That somethin

No Ammo? No Problem As the ammo shortage continues, these five drills can help you keep sharp ahead of hunting season without burning any powder Some hunters never practice with their firearms until the weekend before opening day, when they take it out and shoot a few rounds to ensure it’s still sighted in. Even if the gun is still on, the hunter’s skills might not be. Shooting skills are perishable, but currently, firing a few rounds can cost you. The ammo shortage continues, and it’s making it difficult for hunters to not only find ammunition, but afford to buy it when they do find it. If you’re the hunter who only has a box or two stashed away, you’ll want to make every shot count, which means there’s not much wiggle room for range practice. Luckily, there are still ways to sharpen your shooting skills without sending a bullet downrange. 1. Dry Firing It’s OK to dry fire most firearms. Dry firing means pulling the trigger without a bullet in the chamber, and it won’t hurt most mode

Hour-to-Hour Elk Hunting Tactics. Elk hunting differs from a traditional whitetail hunt in many ways. Elevation, rugged terrain and extraction adversities separate the two, just to name a handful of complicating distinctions. Another difference is the fact elk keep a schedule that offers hunting opportunities throughout the day, whereas whitetails may shut down. Focus on meeting locations that vary by the hour to engage your leggy quarry instead of napping under an old pine tree. 6 a.m. to 10 a.m. If I had to rate one period as the Holy Grail, it would be dawn through midmorning. Elk seem to be anxious, agitated and goal-oriented. That equals noise, and noisy elk are easy to track. The "anxious" issue arises from elk being exposed at sunrise to potential hunting pressure. They are anxious to move to private digs most hunters will be pressed to reach. Herd bulls are anxious to keep the harem together while moving through a barrage of tag-along satellite bulls. What is the goal? By midmo

🇺🇸 Early wake-ups and late evenings is what roebuck hunting is all about. In between, long hours of planning the “best” strategy for that one buck which keeps your hunter and you awake during the short sleeping hours of the night. What will the wind do? Will the females around him spot us and run away scuppering our chances of success? When hunting for such special bucks, usually nothing ever comes as planned over so many times in your mind.

An old legend tells how a bear and an eagle lived for a long time in peace and harmony with each other. They shared their lives in the forest and often met in a clearing, where they exchanged stories and news. One day, a bear and an eagle argued about which of them was better and stronger. The bear claimed that he was the main master of the forest and had great power, while the eagle objected that he was the king of heaven and had a more majestic appearance. The dispute between them began to heat up, and they could not come to an agreement. Each of them was convinced that he was right and that his point of view was the only true one. Their differences became more and more serious, and they stopped communicating with each other. Thus, the bear and the eagle quarreled and no longer maintained friendly relations. The forest began to lose its harmony, and the animals could no longer enjoy the same freedom as before. This legend reminds us of how hostility and disagreement can destroy h

Can you believe Christmas is just a week away? We all get stuck in a rut sometimes. Last night listening to our insanely talented friend Traci Sepkovic/@tlsepkovic, a guest on the @wildlifeconversationspodcast, she talked about just that. Sometimes we feel unlimited creativity and other times we just hit a wall and no matter how bad we want to be out with camera sometimes it's good just to set it down for a while, recenter and get back at it. Todays frames are some that lend to being way more creative than just always using the "good light". Yes we all love a perfectly subject from the the front or coming at us straight into the lens but the older I get and the more I shoot I would rather shoot into the light looking for the truly special moments. My wife and I love anytime we get with wildlife, even without camera in the harsh light parts of the day just being out together is what it's all about, but when the light hits just right it is truly incredible what this planet can create. PREDATOR HUNTING—HOW TO GET STARTED THE EASY WAY CLASSIC COYOTE SETUPS There are three basic types of coyote hunts: A silent stand in which you post up and hope to shoot coyotes passing by. A calling stand in which you hunker down and call coyotes into gun range; What I call a “run-and-gun hunt” in which you drive rural roads and stop periodically to call, then set up when you get a response. 1. SILENT STANDS Looking at the silent stand, your standard deer-season treestand or ground blind can work beautifully, especially if it is situated between deer feeding and bedding areas. Those are the same habitats that coyotes work, so as long as the wind is favorable—that is, blowing away from where you expect to see coyotes—then you should expect a shot. This silent-stand hunting is not a numbers game. You are relying on a dog to simply show itself, and if you shoot, or do anything to alert animals that you’re in the area, then you might be in for a long, slow day. But you can make good

🇺🇸 One of the highlights of the season in Kazakhstan has been this outstanding Maral harvested by one of our most loyal hunters. Jaime can be very proud of what he accomplished on the second day of his hunt. The amount of bulls he acknowledges to have seen is yet again proof of the quality area to which we have access in this remote part of wild Kazakhstan. If you are looking for the best Maral hunt in the world, do not miss the opportunity to join us next year! I wish this special time of the year could last forever!

Picking the Best Rifle and Caliber for Pig Hunting Do you need a magnum setup or a fast-shooting semi-auto? Probably, your deer rifle will work just fine Pig Reality There’s a reason gun nuts love pig hunting. In southern states like Texas and Florida, hogs aren’t subject to many game laws, which means you can hunt them with about whatever you please. If you have a magnum rifle that never sees the light of day because, after buying it, you realized cracked clavicles are no fun at all, you can use it on pigs. In fact, some of the advice out there suggests that you need a really big gun for hog hunting, because you never know when a true Hogzilla might make an appearance. On the other hand, plenty of would-be hog hunters show up with high-capacity semi-autos and visions of a mag dump against a marauding horde of pork. Those rifles are fun to shoot and plenty accurate enough, but unless you’re shooting from a helicopter, they rarely give you much of an advantage while pig hunting. Tru

25 Tips for Dove Hunters 1. Pick the Right Gun Dove hunting is supposed to be fun, and if you enjoy shooting family heirlooms or featherlight .410s at doves, who am I to tell you not to? But if your idea of fun is hitting more doves, choose a 12- or 20-gauge with some heft and at least a 28-inch barrel. A longer, heavier gun swings smoothly, points surely and soaks up recoil. The best dove shooting I did this past year was with a 12-gauge sporting clays gun. 2. Stock Up On Shells Ammunition is available again, and there’s no reason to run out opening day, which I have actually done. Begging shells from people in the field is just embarrassing. Field or target loads of Nos. 7½ or 8 lead or 6 or 7 steel work. Steel loads kill fine, by the way. Lighter loads, with less shot and lower velocities, kick a lot less than heavy, high-speed stuff, and you will shoot a lot in no more padding than a T-shirt. Be sure your ammo will cycle your semi-auto, but other than that, lighter is better. 3.

By Frank Gentile, Hopewell, N.Y. It was October 2011, and I was back in my Chevy Tahoe on my way to another hunt. This time, instead of my son, I was traveling with my hunting buddies. My buddies and I had been on plenty of trips together before but never to Texas! Between the four of us and gear for six (two of our team opted to fly from New York to San Antonio), every single spare inch of space in the truck had been utilized. With each of us taking turns driving, we made it to Texas in about 20 hours. We got dinner and hotel rooms in Texarkana, and were back on the road early the next morning. With a day to spare before we were due at our hunting camp in Hondo, Texas, we headed south with plans to enjoy the city of San Antonio along the way. In San Antonio, we explored the Alamo, the River Walk and the Buckhorn Saloon and Texas Ranger Museum. What a great city! Our first order of business after arriving at the camp the next morning was to make sure that our rifles were on target.
