Springbok Safaris in the Free State: Flat Terrain, Trophy Rams, and Cultural Hunting Heritage Geography and Natural Features The Free State province is characterized by expansive grasslands, gentle hills, and a dry interior climate—perfect for South Africa’s national animal, the springbok. Its open plains offer excellent visibility, but the lack of cover challenges hunters to rely on stealth, long-range marksmanship, and patience. Key hunting zones include areas around Bloemfontein, Philippolis, and Bethulie, where thornveld patches and rocky outcrops provide strategic vantage points for glassing and stalking. Hunting Population The Free State is one of South Africa’s most accessible and popular plains game destinations. It draws: Local hunters, especially from Gauteng and surrounding provinces, for affordable weekend safaris International hunters from Europe and North America seeking quality game, reliable infrastructure, and professional service Its reputation as a top plains ga

MTFWP removes mountain lions from Wild Horse Island State Park Three adult mountain lions were recently removed from Wild Horse Island State Park in Montana. The decision came after the state and tribal officials deemed the animals a “public safety issue due to the high density and habituation,” according to KRTV News. Montana Fish, Wildlife and Parks (MTFWP) worked in collaboration with the Confederated Salish and Kootenai Tribes (CSKT) after receiving reports from both landowners and visitors. The island, which is 2,163 acres, is located on the south end of Flathead Lake. Both MTFWP and CKST worried that their presence would impact “one of the nation’s most important conservation herds of Rocky Mountain bighorn sheep.” Because of how the island is situated, bighorn sheep have no escape route from the mountain lions. “Alongside prioritizing public safety, we felt it was important to protect one of the few disease-free bighorn sheep herds because of the role it plays in the great

Hunting in Finland Hunting is part of the traditional way of life and living in our northern nature. Finland was originally inhabited in pursuit of game and fish. It continues to be an important form of recreation and a means of getting food. The busiest hunting season starts on August 20, the opening of the water fowl hunting season. The Finnish Wildlife Agency has drafted a guide for foreigners for getting the required permits. In Finland, a hunter must pay the annual Game Management Fee. In addition, hunters must have a hunting permit for the area where they plan to hunt. For some game animals, such as elk, a hunting permit granted by the Finnish Wildlife Agency is required. Game animals may only be hunted in their assigned hunting seasons. Further information is available at The Finnish Wildlife Agency. Permits for hunting are granted by the owner of the land. On state-owned land, permits issued by Metsähallitus. Permits are available by calling the sales number +358 20 69 2424

Hog Hunting with My Trusty CZ Carbine There’s something about stepping into the woods after sunset that gets the blood pumping. Down here in the South, night hunts for wild hogs aren’t just tradition - they’re necessity. These feral beasts tear up crops, damage land, and challenge even the most seasoned outdoorsman. So tonight, just like many before, I headed out under the stars with my faithful hunting partner - my CZ carbine. 🐗 Tracking the Night Menace Wild hogs are no joke. Fast, smart, and aggressive, they test your skill every step of the way. But with the CZ tucked against my shoulder, I feel ready for whatever comes charging through the brush. There’s a reason I swear by this rifle: it’s balanced, reliable, and built for precision. That’s exactly what you need when you’re lining up a shot in pitch black with just a thermal scope for company. 🌾 The Setup Whether it’s the thick pinewoods of Georgia, the mesquite scrub in Texas, or the dense swamps of Florida—every state’s

Ballerina Maya Plisetskaya fishing on the banks of the Moskva River, 1956. Maya Plisetskaya, one of the greatest ballerinas of the 20th century, danced her part in Swan Lake more than 800 times, appearing on stage in this role for 30 years — from 1947 to 1977. In the late 1970s, she headed the Ballet of the Roman Opera and the Spanish ballet company Teatro Lirico Nacional. She has worked with the most prominent choreographers in the world, dancing on all the best ballet stages without exception. For many famous artists, Plisetskaya was a muse. Her grace and beauty inspired Chagall, Petit, Bejar, Cardin. Journalists often pestered her with the question of how she manages to keep her figure for many years. She answered: "No dieting, you need to eat less." Or she'd tell a favorite joke for a change. Future ballerinas and girly girls flock to her, chirping, asking for an autograph. One, bolder, asks the question: "Tell me, how do you manage to stay in this shape?" Plisetskaya teaches:

JAGD ÖSTERREICH JÖ brand is about how centuries-old hunting tradition meets modernity. Hunting in Austria dates back to medieval times, with royal families like the Habsburgs playing a pivotal role in shaping the country’s hunting heritage. JAGD ÖSTERREICH continues this legacy while integrating modern conservation practices and sustainable management techniques. The nine Austrian hunting associations are strengthening their transnational cooperation. As a basis for this, they have developed the umbrella brand "Jagd Österreich". By uniting these associations under the JAGD ÖSTERREICH brand, Austria aims to strengthen its hunting community, enhance collaboration between regions, and promote responsible hunting as a key component of wildlife conservation and rural development. How to Apply and Increase Your Chances Utah's Unique Hunting Terrain and Natural Features Utah presents a diverse and challenging landscape for hunters, encompassing five distinct geographic regions that create varied hunting opportunities. The state's elevation ranges dramatically from 2,000 feet in the southwest desert to over 13,500 feet in the Uinta Mountains, creating multiple ecosystems within its borders. Approximately 70% of Utah's land is public, managed by federal agencies like the Bureau of Land Management (BLM) and the U.S. Forest Service, offering extensive hunting grounds. The state's unique geological formations, including red rock canyons, alpine forests, and high desert plateaus, create natural barriers and funnel points that influence animal movement patterns. Wolf charges Bear, then Bear charges the Wolf. I waited at a Bison carcass from 5am to 9pm for 3 days. Eagles and coyotes had been coming in trying to get a bite, while the Grizzly guarded the carcass, just as its mother taught it to. It would sleep on it and cover it with dirt, and when it seemingly left the scene….it would show back up when other animals tried to feed. On the 3rd morning a lone Wolf 1479 showed up from the Junction Butte pack. It had about 10 minutes to eat before the Grizzly came back. They had an initial stare down. The wolf stood on the carcass and then charged the bear. The bear initially retreated and then decided to charge the wolf. Of course the bear reclaimed the carcass.
