Best Dog Breeds for Shed Hunters A pro trainer weighs in on the traits you should look for in an antler-finding dog At the beginning of every shed hunting season, I always imagine the treasure trove of deer antlers I will find. Then, reality sets in. I end up with a few good antlers, a bunch of dinks, and some weird stuff. This year, I found a ram’s horn. Last year, it was a toilet seat. At the end of it all, I always think about what a good year it would’ve been if I’d just gotten a dang antler dog. That sparked a conversation with Dog Bone’s Jeremy Moore about the best dog breeds for shed hunters. “I don’t know if there is such a thing,” Moore says. “I think it depends completely on matching you with the right dog. It’s a stylistic and preference thing more than anything.” So, if you were hoping for a definitive list of the top 10 shed hunting breeds, this isn’t it. The good news is, you have a real chance of getting the dog you already have – or the one you want – to start finding a

Wissen Sie?

Hardware: Colt Anaconda For some folks, the sight of a scoped bolt-action rifle or elegant over/under shotgun instantly makes them think of hunting. For me, the glimpse of a long-barreled big-bore revolver does the same thing. In the case of Colt’s new stainless steel Anaconda with an 8-inch barrel, visions of big-game animals immediately popped into my mind. Knowing the Anaconda is chambered in .44 Magnum, and seeing the overall size of the new revolver up close, made me focus on the largest of the animals I’ve hunted. This is clearly a handgun and caliber one could use worldwide on any land animal. Yes, the Anaconda does remind you of its smaller relative, the new Python, with its world-famous ventilated rib, full-length lug and highly polished stainless-steel finish. A little closer look reveals the fully adjustable rear sight, wide hammer spur, open-back rubber Hogue grips, replaceable front sight with orange insert, and a top strap already drilled and tapped to facilitate the mo

Colorado Mule Deer Units: Top Areas for Trophy Hunts: know more Hunter Community, Local Legislation and Seasons Colorado's Diverse Hunting Terrain Colorado offers one of the most diverse hunting terrains in North America, spanning over 104,000 square miles with elevations ranging from 3,315 feet to 14,440 feet at Mount Elbert. The state's geography is divided into three distinct regions: the eastern plains, the central mountains, and the western plateaus. This varied landscape creates ideal conditions for different game species throughout the year. The eastern plains, covering about 40% of Colorado's land area, provide excellent habitat for pronghorn antelope and mule deer. These open grasslands feature scattered juniper trees and sagebrush, creating perfect cover and feeding grounds. The region receives an average annual precipitation of 15-20 inches, supporting a sustainable ecosystem for big game animals. The Rocky Mountains dominate central Colorado, offering challenging terrai

The SPAS-12 was designed to function primarily in semi-automatic mode, with the pump-action mode used to reliably fire low-pressure ammunition such as tear gas rounds or less-lethal bean bags. The firing mode is switched by depressing the button under the fore-grip and also sliding it forwards or backwards until it clicks into position allowing the rotating sleeve to open or close the two gas ports. The semi-automatic mode functions with a short-stroke gas piston system. When a shell is fired, the pressure makes the bolt move rearward but the bolt will stop before opening as it deploys a single top locking lug. The gas vents into the barrel and the gas port is located towards the end of the barrel. From the gas port, the gas vents downwards into the gas block where it pushes the piston rearward. Because of the presence of the magazine tube and to avoid the use of a top-mounted gas system, the gas block and the piston are annular, along with the piston spring they enclose the magazine

There's magic in the air. The first frosts of the year greet us each morning, and the tops of the highest peaks are dusted with snow. The colours are changing, and the Yukon's landscape is something to behold. It's moose hunting season, and I'm excited. What you'll see in these images is how tall the buckbrush in the valley is. You will have a few challenges if you want to stand in here and hunt moose. If you're lucky, the brush will make it impossible to see any bulls or cows further than a few hundred yards. Taking a shot? It's almost impossible unless the bull comes in hot to your call. I much prefer getting up on the hillsides around the valley where I can call effectively and glass massive areas. You can see one image of my father with the bull he shot. While we were down in the valley, we found a small hill to shoot from, and it gave use a fantastic shooting angle above the brush.

How many crocodile teeth? What is special about crocodile teeth? How strong is a crocodile bite? The teeth of the crocodiles order are remarkable (and they are placed in a reinforced skull with the most powerful biting muscles). Do crocodiles lose their teeth with age? Extant crocodiles are polyphiodonts, that is, their teeth are continually replaced during a large part of their life. Firstly, each tooth is renewed in 1-2 years (their teeth are hollow inside, and brand-new and sharp teeth develop in these cavities as they wear out). Secondly, unlike most reptiles, crocodiles have a peculiar differentiation of teeth in size, shape, and even function. At the beginning of each jaw, there are four large canine teeth that serve to effectively capture prey. In the middle of the jaw, the teeth are thicker, increase in length more evenly and form a kind of scissor bite that allows you to cut the fillets of the deceased corpse of the captured victim. At the base of the jaw, the teeth expa

Searching the right haystacks is the best way to find needles. Pursuers of whitetails, this continent’s favorite and most widespread big game animal, take to the woods each fall for a variety of reasons. Many deer hunters simply enjoy communing with nature. Some are more driven to collect venison for the freezer. For others, the quest is all about antlers, and the bigger the better. Size really does matter to the 10 million-plus hunters smitten with white-tailed deer, whether it’s the driving force behind their passion or simply a bonus. Success depends on luck, skill and, most important, location. For the second time since Buckmasters launched its own Full-Credit (antler) Scoring System back in 1993, the nation’s largest deer hunting organization has tapped into its massive database to show exactly where hunters are felling this country’s best white-tailed bucks. From handcrafted rifles to beautifully tuned duck calls, every booth had something worth stopping for. I was especially impressed by the innovations in sustainable hunting gear - lighter packs, high-performance camouflage, and some top-notch optics. The live demos and shooting ranges were a great chance to put the latest equipment to the test right on the spot. One of the highlights was connecting with other hunters from across Europe and beyond. We swapped stories, shared techniques, and built friendships around a fire and a good old-fashioned wild game grill-up. Can’t beat that. For anyone in the hunting world, Game Fair Franc

The 5 Guns Every Outdoorsman Needs It never hurts to have a few extra firearms, but if you’re a hunter and limited to just five, these are the ones you really can’t live without If you’re like me, you’d own 20 or more rifles, shotguns, and handguns, however many you could afford. But truth is, to have a blast shooting targets and hunting every species of bird and animal across America, you really only need five firearms. And those are the ones we’re talking about here. In this discussion, we’ll focus on the generic qualities and some specs of the five categories of guns. When you’re ready to buy, do your research on Google and at your local gun shop to find the brands and models that match your style and fit your budget. A .22 Rifle Every man, woman, and child on Earth needs a good old .22 rifle. Well, so long as they’re properly trained in firearms handling and safety.
