Two Idaho wolves kill 143 sheep in freak "pile up" Two wolves are responsible for the deaths of 143 sheep in Idaho’s Boise Foothills. The “pile-up” occurred in mid-May and, following an investigation conducted by the Idaho Department of Fish and Game (IDFG) and Wildlife Services, officials determined that two wolves “caused the sheep to flee in panic,” which caused them to “crush or suffocate each other” as they tried to escape, according to a press release. During the investigation, Wildlife Services discovered two sets of wolf tracks in the same location as the incident. While permission was given to remove the problem wolves if found, officials were unable to locate the animals. “This sadly exemplifies why wolf management in Idaho can be so challenging,” said IDFG Director Ed Schriever. “People cherish the Foothills for its diversity of wildlife, along with the opportunities for grazing, recreation and other activities. In this instance, a pair of wolves caused a significant loss

End of year review: I've chosen this as my Wildlife Photo of the Year. It's a cheetah running into its new home provided by Trophy Hunters. Yes, beautifully managed trophy hunting by Zambezi Delta Safaris in 500,000 acre Hunting Block 11 has increased native wildlife to such high numbers that they were able to reintroduce cheetahs, a predator missing from the area for at least 100 years. Cabela's Family Foundation is a big part of this program. Four cheetah were released this day. I got this shot by running a GoPro 10 on video mode atop a small tripod while I operated a Canon R6 and 150-600mm Sigma. Lots of good video from both cameras, but this single frame pulled from the GoPro captured the essence of wildlife restoration advanced by and funded by dedicated sport/trophy hunters. Conservation in action.

How Does Benelli’s Inertia-Driven System Work? A Hunter’s Deep Dive into Legendary Reliability If you’ve ever shouldered a Benelli shotgun in the field, you’ve likely felt the difference. It’s not just the balance or the Italian craftsmanship - it’s the Inertia-Driven® system, the heart of Benelli’s semi-automatic legacy. As a lifelong hunter and firearms enthusiast, I’ve trusted this system in rain, snow, dust, and heat. Let me break down how it works, why it matters, and what makes it stand apart from gas-operated shotguns. ⚙️ The Core Principle: Recoil, Not Gas Unlike gas-operated shotguns that siphon off combustion gases to cycle the action, Benelli’s Inertia-Driven system uses pure recoil energy. When you fire a shell, the entire shotgun moves backward—except for the bolt body, which momentarily resists due to inertia. This delay compresses a spring between the bolt head and bolt body. Once the spring reaches full compression, it expands, driving the bolt rearward to eject the

Tips for Camouflage in Hunting: Choosing the Right Camouflage, Blending In, and Minimizing Noise Effective #camouflage is key to a successful #hunt, as blending into the environment lets hunters approach their target undetected. Here are some tips on choosing the right #camouflage_gear, staying hidden in the forest or open areas, and minimizing noise. Camouflage: How to Choose the Right One The choice of camouflage depends on the terrain, season, and time of day. In the forest, green and brown tones help blend in with trees and foliage, while in winter conditions, a white-grey camouflage works best on snowy terrain. For hunting in open plains, beige and brown colors are better, blending in with grass and dry landscapes. Seasonal #hunting_camouflage also varies: summer clothing is lightweight and breathable, while winter gear is warm and can come with snow covers. Blending in on Different Terrains Beyond camouflage, choose #hunting_gear that doesn’t stand out in the environment. Hats

A bowhunter killed a cougar Nov. 11 in Buffalo County after reportedly being threatened by the animal, according to the Department of Natural Resources. The incident took place on private property in western Buffalo County. The hunter, licensed to pursue white-tailed deer during the Wisconsin bow season, was in a tree stand when he saw the cougar and felt his safety was at risk, said Randy Johnson, DNR large carnivore specialist. The hunter then used his bow to shoot and kill the animal. The hunter, who was not identifed, contacted the DNR to report the incident. Cougars are a protected species in Wisconsin but humans have the right to protect themselves against a wild animal if their safety is threatened. After reviewing results of an investigation by DNR conservation wardens into the cougar killing, the Buffalo County district attorney concluded no charge was war

WHEN TO DRAW One of the biggest obstacles when staring down a big whitetail is deciding when to draw. There is no easy answer. First, consider the buck’s travel path. It doesn’t do much good to draw if his current path doesn’t have the potential to bring him by your stand. Drawing too early often means you’ll have to let down your string — something that creates a lot of movement. Second, look at the buck’s speed. If he’s moving briskly (most often during the rut) and you expect him to pass through a shooting lane soon, the top priority is to draw and be ready. If he’s taking his time, then so should you. Drawing undetected is a big first step, but obstacles remain. You still have to send an arrow to a rather small target through space often cluttered with branches and leaves. Identify openings that could present shot opportunities ahead of time.

James Webb: Space telescope reveals 'incredible' Jupiter views The world's largest and most powerful space telescope has revealed unprecedented views of Jupiter. The James Webb Space Telescope (JWST) took the pictures of the solar system's biggest planet in July. The images show auroras, giant storms, moons and rings surrounding Jupiter in detail that astronomers have described as "incredible". The infrared photographs were artificially coloured to make the features stand out. This is because infrared light is invisible to the human eye. "We've never seen Jupiter like this. It's all quite incredible," said planetary astronomer Imke de Pater, of the University of California, who played a key role in the project. "We hadn't really expected it to be this good, to be honest," she added. The $10bn (£8.5bn) JWST is an international mission led by the US space agency Nasa with its partners from the European Space Agency and the Canadian Space Agency. Nasa said that in the standalone
