Review of the Pulsar Trail 2 LRF XQ50 Thermal Scope with Rangefinder I recently had the opportunity to test the Pulsar Trail 2 LRF XQ50 thermal scope with a built-in rangefinder, and I must say, it has lived up to its reputation as a high-quality thermal imaging device. Image Quality: The image quality is exceptional, with a clear and crisp resolution that makes identifying targets in low-light conditions a breeze. The thermal sensitivity is impressive, allowing me to detect heat signatures even in challenging environments. The 50 mm objective lens provides a good field of view and depth of field, which is crucial for scouting expansive areas. Rangefinder Feature: The built-in laser rangefinder is a standout feature. It provides accurate distance measurements up to 1,200 meters, which is invaluable for hunters and shooters who need to make precise shots. The integration of this feature into the scope eliminates the need for additional equipment, making it more convenient and user

US: Wolves may need protections after states expand hunting. The Biden administration said Wednesday that federal protections may need to be restored for gray wolves in the western U.S. after Republican-backed state laws made it much easier to kill the predators. The U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service initial determination that the region’s wolves could again be in peril — after decades spent restoring them — will kick off a year-long biological review. It marks an abrupt turnaround for the federal wildlife agency and brought a swift pushback from Montana’s Republican governor, who said officials in Washington shouldn’t be “second guessing” the state’s wildlife policies. Federal officials had spent years in court defending their decisions on wolves, including under Biden and dating back to the Obama administration, when wolves were returned to state jurisdiction in the six-state Northern Rockies, opening the door to hunting for the first time in decades. https://sentinelcolorado.com/ne

Pheasants Forever - In 1982, a group of pheasant hunters saw the connection between upland habitat loss and declining pheasant populations. An organization dedicated to wildlife habitat conservation was needed, and Pheasants Forever was formed. Then in 2005, as quail numbers continued to decline nationwide, passionate conservationists across the country stepped up once again to found Quail Forever. Together, Pheasants Forever and Quail Forever’s mission work quickly garnered it a reputation as “The Habitat Organization,” a tagline the nonprofit conservation group uses proudly to this day. Pheasants Forever and Quail Forever’s mission is to conserve pheasants, quail, and other wildlife through habitat improvements, public access, education and conservation advocacy. Beretta AL391 Urika 2 (12 Gauge) - A Hunter's review I've owned and hunted with a Beretta AL391 Urika 2 for a good number of years now. It was my go-to semi-auto for everything from waterfowl to upland birds, and even the occasional sporting clays outing. I've put it through its paces in all sorts of conditions – rain, snow, heat, dust – and have a pretty solid understanding of its strengths and weaknesses. The Good Stuff Beretta AL391 Urika 2 12-gauge: Shooting Comfort: This is where the Urika 2 truly shines. The gas-operated system does a fantastic job of soaking up recoil. Even with heavier magnum loads, it's surprisingly manageable, which translates to less fatigue during long days in the field and faster follow-up shots. Compared to inertia-driven guns, it's noticeably softer on the shoulder. Reliability (Mostly): When clean and properly maintained, the Urika 2 is generally reliable. It'll cycle a wide range of loads, from light target rounds to heavier hunting loads, without

The Champawat tigress is a man-eating animal that killed 436 people! Photo: 1911 Nepal, Jim Corbett. In the early 1900s, the Nepalese region close to the Himalayas was terrorized by the most famous and bloodthirsty man-eating animal. Men, women, and children disappeared into the jungle. The attacks were so frequent and violent that the locals started talking about demons and punishments from the gods. But the Bengal tigress was the culprit! Champawat tigress was forced to hunt humans, but I'll tell you about that later. After people found out that people were disappearing because of the tigress. People started hunting for her, all attempts were in vain. The number of people killed has reached 200! I had to turn to the army. Hundreds of people with guns combed the region in search of her. Fleeing from them, the Champawat Tigress crossed the border with India and stopped in the Kumaon region. Settled in the forests of India, Champawat Tigress went back to her old ways. People began t

Dove Hunting 101: From Cornfield to Kitchen Flying targets are very difficult for most people, and dove are some of the most challenging of them all. With that in mind, let’s take a few minutes to ensure your shots count this year in the dove field. The fundamentals of shooting a shotgun are vital to becoming a successful dove hunter, as there are many things that contribute to actually hitting the target. You must avoid mental breakdowns and learn how to keep your mind from getting in the way of your fundamentals. In this article we will look in-depth at what those fundamentals are. Stance Your stance when shooting a shotgun should be different from shooting other guns. The placement of your feet is critical in having a smooth motion when taking a shot. For right-handed shooters, stand with your left foot in front of your right, about shoulder width apart or just under. Shift your weight slightly toward your lead foot to help brace yourself for the recoil of the shotgun. If the bir

WHY YOU NEED TO BE HUNTING SQUIRRELS RIGHT NOW What if I told you about a hunting opportunity that’s happening right now, which offers abundant access to productive land, requires a minimum of technical gear, and provides the chance to bring home tasty meat that is routinely overlooked for its palatability? You’d probably think I was blowing smoke, but I’m talking about one of the most neglected and productive hunts in the U.S.—for common tree squirrels. Squirrel seasons start now, in the lazy days of late summer, giving you time (and an excuse) to get out in the woods to scout for deer while also ground-truthing the gear that you’ll rely on all autumn. But you don’t need an excuse to go squirrel hunting. The first argument in its favor is that squirrels live almost everywhere, from the leafy hardwoods of the East to the piney woods of the South to the mountains of the West. Squirrel hunting is also a great way to introduce new shooters to small-game hunting. The two squirrel spe

SUMMER PREP EQUALS A BETTER FALL DEER SEASON Don't wait until the season starts. It’s hard to think about frosty mornings at hunting camp this time of the year. The outside temperature for many of us is still hovering around the triple-digit mark, and the air is so thick you could probably squeeze water out of it if you made a fist. But now is exactly when you need to be putting in the work for the upcoming season. UPGRADE YOUR GEAR Think back to last season. Did a fogged scope cost you a big buck? Did your treestand squeak when you tried to get into position for a shot? Did you leave a hunt early or skip going out altogether because of inclement weather? Now is the time to remedy all those problems. Available stock on sporting goods always seems to be in short supply just before season. Don’t wait until the gear you need is sold out before you start shopping. Purchasing early also allows you to get familiar with your new equipment, particularly firearms and optics. Not having to

Hunting in California offers a wide variety of opportunities for both experienced hunters and beginners. With its diverse landscapes, from mountainous regions to vast deserts, California is home to a rich variety of game species, including deer, elk, wild pig, turkey, and upland game birds. Before embarking on your hunting trip, make sure to familiarize yourself with California’s hunting regulations. The California Department of Fish and Wildlife (CDFW) strictly monitors hunting seasons, bag limits, and licensing. Every hunter in California is required to have a valid hunting license, and in some cases, specific tags are needed for certain species like #deerhunting and #elkhunting. The Golden State is known for its challenging #publiclandhunting opportunities, as it boasts millions of acres of public lands managed by the Bureau of Land Management (BLM) and the U.S. Forest Service. Popular public hunting areas include the Mendocino National Forest, Sierra National Forest, and Los Padr

SPEARFISHING IN TUSCANY AT THE "ISOLA DEL GIGLIO" WITH JACOPO AND TIZIANA What is your spearfishing philosophy? We both love speafishing the big ones in open waters. We both live this passion as a real lifestyle rather than as a sport, we don’t like to call it that way, and we don’t like the competition environment either as it tends to keep the challenge spirit among men. The real essence of this activity instead is diving in to the water to be part of something bigger. Where are your usual fishing spots? We live in Umbria away from the sea, only 110km away is the Adriatic sea but the fishes we like to spear cannot be found in that portion of sea so we need to face a week-end out to get to the gorgeous Giglio island in Tuscany. There we have a small house on rent, a small dinghy that we share with another friend and all the equipment we need to catch big snappers. Which techniques do you prefer? We are used to spear fish with crawling and waiting technique either in shallo

Wolf attacks on herds in Dagestan: drama and fight against predators A real drama unfolded in the hunting grounds of Dagestan over the weekend: a huge pack of wolves, numbering about 12 individuals, attacked local herds, causing panic among residents. These predators are terrorizing the entire area, and local residents are forced to take measures to protect their animals. According to local residents, the video begins with the wolves tearing a horse to pieces. This incident became an alarming signal for hunters and farmers, who realized that they needed to act. On the same day, a hunter appeared at the scene of the attack, ready to confront the threat. As a result of the hunt, they managed to get 3 wolves. Sport hunting helped form a foundation for the preservation and conservation of wildlife in America. Most of the early legislation that formed the foundation for conservation and preservation in the United States was thanks to hunters themselves. Sport hunting was a major movement in nature preservation that widely benefitted conservation efforts from the 1880s-1920s. The reason hunters were so incentivized to preserve nature was to preserve their sport and the moral behind it. When hunting first came to America from Europe, it was viewed as a sport only for a small population of very wealthy people. When hunting shifted from an elitist sport for the rich to a larger majority, this larger group needed to learn to support game preservation. This was realized in the 1880s, when herds of buffalo quickly began to disappear. Some examples of the things that hunters accomplished in supporting game preservation, thus protecting the environment, between 1880 and 1920 include abolishing m

Province takes more steps to combat chronic wasting disease The province is taking more actions to prevent the spread of a deadly disease that impacts deer and other wildlife. Chronic wasting disease was first detected in Manitoba last year in five mule deer along the Manitoba-Saskatchewan border. CWD is an incurable, fatal disease that also effects elk moose and caribou. And while no additional cases have been detected, the province is expanding what’s called a mandatory sample submission zone, which requires hunters in certain areas to provide samples of their harvested animal for testing. And a strictly regulated and managed mule deer hunting season will be established. How to Make Pemmican f you’ve ever had a meat or jerky bar made of finely chopped dried meat and perhaps berries, you may be familiar with pemmican. Pemmican consists of lean, dried meat – usually beef nowadays, but bison, deer, and elk were common back in the day) which is crushed to a powder and mixed with an equal amount of hot, rendered fat, usually beef tallow. Sometimes crushed, dried berries are added as well. For long periods of time, people can subsist entirely on pemmican, drawing on the fat for energy and the protein for strength, and glucose, when needed. Taxidermy Is Art. No Debates Needed. 🎯 I hunt because I love nature. I mount trophies because I respect it. Taxidermy isn’t some weird obsession or macho flex. It’s the way I capture the wild — raw and honest. That moment when I locked eyes with a rutting buck, or the adrenaline when the boar came crashing through the thicket… a picture fades. A head mount? They’re why I remember every sunrise I froze through, every footprint I followed, every time I sat in complete silence — just waiting. I don’t do it for show. I do it because the wild deserves to be remembered properly. Call it what you want. I call it respect in its purest,

The two would be out for a month or two, until most of the salmon had spawned and the bears had left the streams for the high country. The old man didn’t especially enjoy the kid’s company but, due his to declining health and old age, he needed his help for basic things like getting in and out of the boat. They motored past once pristine bays, where years ago the old man guided legendary hunters like Warren Page and Jack O’Connor. Now, those lands were clear-cut logged. He pointed the skiff toward Admiralty Island, the heart of rainforest grizzly country, and opened the
