In the late 1970s, she headed the Ballet of the Roman Opera and the Spanish ballet company Teatro Lirico Nacional. She has worked with the most prominent choreographers in the world, dancing on all the best ballet stages without exception. For many famous artists, Plisetskaya was a muse. Her grace and beauty inspired Chagall, Petit, Bejar, Cardin. Journalists often pestered her with the question of how she manages to keep her figure for many years. She answered: "No dieting, you need to eat less." Or she'd tell a favorite joke for a change. Future ballerinas and girly girls flock to her, chirping, asking for an autograph. One, bolder, asks the question: "Tell me, how do you manage to stay in this shape?" Plisetskaya teaches:

Two Idaho wolves kill 143 sheep in freak "pile up" Two wolves are responsible for the deaths of 143 sheep in Idaho’s Boise Foothills. The “pile-up” occurred in mid-May and, following an investigation conducted by the Idaho Department of Fish and Game (IDFG) and Wildlife Services, officials determined that two wolves “caused the sheep to flee in panic,” which caused them to “crush or suffocate each other” as they tried to escape, according to a press release. During the investigation, Wildlife Services discovered two sets of wolf tracks in the same location as the incident. While permission was given to remove the problem wolves if found, officials were unable to locate the animals. “This sadly exemplifies why wolf management in Idaho can be so challenging,” said IDFG Director Ed Schriever. “People cherish the Foothills for its diversity of wildlife, along with the opportunities for grazing, recreation and other activities. In this instance, a pair of wolves caused a significant loss

Controversial spring bear hunt up for debate in Washington The Washington Fish and Wildlife Commission will hear a report Friday on potential changes to the 2022 spring bear hunt season. However, several conservation groups said special permits to hunt black bears in the spring should not be issued at all. The groups said the hunts cruelly kill bears just as they’ve emerged from hibernation with cubs in tow. “There's a reason why we don't hunt any other species during the spring – other than turkeys – because spring is an important time for all species in which they're recovering from the winter,” said Claire Loebs Davis, board president, Washington Wildlife First, a conservation group. After hibernation, Loebs Davis said, bears are on the verge of starvation, making the bears sluggish, slow and easy to kill. “Starvation is forcing them into clearings and in areas where the only food is available – where they are easy for hunters to find and shoot,” she said. As bears emerge from

“Ever since I was a kid, an Alaskan moose hunt has been at the top of my list. And, this season, it was finally here. We were dropped deep into in the Brooks Range and quickly found ourselves chasing rutting bulls through the tundra swamps, tussocks, and ridge lines. After about a week and a handful of incredible encounters, we were hit with a days-long September snow storm. The sudden weather shift also called for a change in our tactics; we began to hunt bull moose more like a Midwest whitetail. Setting up along an obvious trail—that move proved to be the best decision we made on the entire trip. As we waited to fly the meat out, we glassed up a large grizzly—a bonus opportunity after an already successful hunt. We put a plan for a stalk in place and with luck still on our side, it all came together. There are no words to describe a hunt like this other than, once-in-a-lifetime.” - Mathews own’ Jeff Ozanne #MathewsLIFTX #mathews

The Otterhound: A Hunter's Companion With a Nose for Adventure As a seasoned hunter, I've always valued a good hunting dog by my side. Over the years, I've had the pleasure of working with many breeds, each with its own unique strengths. But today, I want to introduce you to a truly remarkable canine companion: the Otterhound. A Dog With a Purpose The Otterhound, as the name suggests, was originally bred to hunt otters. These aquatic predators were once considered a threat to fish stocks in England, and the Otterhound emerged as a specialist in their pursuit. But don't let the name fool you; the Otterhound is more versatile than you might think. While they excel in water, their stamina, powerful nose, and determination make them capable hunters on land as well. What Can an Otterhound Hunt? While traditionally used for otter hunting (now illegal in many places), today's Otterhounds can be trained to hunt: Raccoons: Their tracking abilities and determination make them well-suited f

Last weekend, I embarked on an unforgettable hunting trip in the heart of California’s wilderness. The journey began at the crack of dawn, with the sun casting a golden hue over the sprawling landscapes of the San Bernardino National Forest. Armed with my gear and a sense of adventure, I set out to explore the rugged terrain. The forest was alive with the sounds of nature, from the rustling leaves to the distant calls of wildlife. As I trekked deeper into the woods, I encountered a variety of game, including black bears and wild pigs. The thrill of the hunt was palpable, and every moment was a testament to the beauty and challenge of the great outdoors. One of the highlights of the trip was spotting a majestic mule deer. With careful precision and respect for the animal, I took my shot. The experience was both humbling and exhilarating, reminding me of the importance of conservation and responsible hunting practices. After a successful day in the field, I set up camp under the starlit

New York Hunter Gets a Second Chance on This 180-Inch Buck “I was shaking so bad I missed him clean, sending my arrow three feet over his back” eremy Williams likes to hunt his family’s 500-acre parcel near the Susquehanna River in south-central New York. He goes down to the river often, and last summer he spotted a giant buck near the bank while catfishing. Williams watched where the deer bedded, and then came back to place trail cams in the area. By October, he’d learned the buck’s habits well enough to make his move. “He was only 20 yards away from me on Oct. 10,” Williams tells Outdoor Life. “But I was shaking so bad I missed him clean, sending my arrow three feet over his back.” Eager to redeem himself this season, Williams kept an eye on his trail cams and he kept getting photos of the buck. A few other hunters in the area had spotted the buck, too. But he wasn’t an easy deer to pattern. “I’d been bowhunting him on [our] family’s land in low, thick areas because I believed th

Hunting the Snowshoe Hare It’s hard to imagine a winter day spent more pleasantly than stalking through Alaska’s taiga hunting the snowshoe hare. There’s not a better reason to explore the reaches of our well-forested state, and there’s not an animal that’s better-suited to live there. Some days you find them, some days you don’t. To me this dichotomy represents the greatest draw of hunting hares: They’re routinely elusive but occasionally attainable, at once an animal that children’s hunting dreams are made of yet still wholly capable of making even the wisest feel like an idiot. I hunt hares exclusively with a rimfire rifle equipped with open sights. Yes, beagles and shotguns and loyal compatriots would probably be more effective, but I prefer to give the hare his refuges of invisibility and speed. If I can bag him in spite of those advantages, I like to think I’ve surmounted some pinnacle of woodsmanship and truly deserve the added weight in my vest. Or maybe I’m just full of it

3 EASY WAYS TO MAKE ANY WILD HOG DELICIOUS A lot of folks get nervous when you start throwing wild pig into the dinner table conversation. Log onto any hunting forum and the majority of people will say they don’t bother eating hogs for any number of reasons—smell, taste, unfounded rumors, you name it. It’s simply the majority mindset, or at least it was. Where I live in Texas, we’re inundated with these feral critters, but there’s a love/hate relationship at play. I hate that they destroy our hay fields, but I love cooking these beasts and do so on a regular basis. Like me, Jesse Griffiths thinks the pig detractors are ill-informed if not crazy, so much so that he wrote a book dedicated to cooking wild hogs. As the owner of the renowned Dai Due in Austin, as well as the mind behind The New School of Traditional Cookery, he’s been waving the banner for wild hogs since before it was fashionable. And people are beginning to catch on. Regardless, there still are some mental and actual ob

The Right Way to Clean and Store Your Hunting Rifle Properly caring for your deer gun’s barrel and action ensures it’ll be ready to go again next fall Deer season is over, and now is the perfect time to give your rifle a thorough annual cleaning. Store your gun in a secure and rust-free environment and it will be in good working order when you break it out for a range session in a few months. Gun-Cleaning Gear To do the job right, you need to secure your rifle horizontally in a vise. A vise attached to a workbench at your house will work fine. Or you can purchase a portable gun vise from a company that specializes in firearms-cleaning accessories. Spend $40 or more for a universal gun-cleaning kit, which will include a three-piece bore rod and an assortment of jags, brushes, patches, and other accessories for cleaning not only your bolt-action, but also other handguns and long guns that you own. ORANGE IS A NEW BLACK Stay safe when hunting by following these tips: -Check weather reports before embarking on a hunting trip. -Tell someone where you will be hunting and when you will return. -Be familiar with the area you want to hunt. Bring a map and compass. -Carry a basic survival kit and be prepared for an unexpected overnight stay in the field. The survival kit should contain a rope, a knife, water, waterproof matches, an emergency shelter, and first aid supplies. -Dress properly and be prepared for the worst possible conditions. -Wear hunter orange as your outermost gear so that you are visible to other hunters. Do not wear white or tan during deer season. -Always treat your weapon as if it is loaded, even if it isn't, and know where your hunter partners are located at all times. -If accompanied by a dog, the dog should also wear hunter orange or a very visible color on a vest, leash, coat or bandana. Check the state regulations to determine if a dog is allowed on a hunt. -

Winchester Vulkan SXR Semi-Automatic Rifle, 30-06 Caliber, 650mm Barrel Review As an avid shooter and hunter, I had the opportunity to test the Winchester Vulkan SXR semi-automatic rifle in 30-06 caliber, with a 650mm barrel, and I would like to share my thoughts on its performance, features, and overall value. Pros: Reliability: The Vulkan SXR has shown great reliability during my testing. The semi-automatic action cycles smoothly, and I experienced no jams or misfeeds, even with various types of ammunition. This is critical for any hunt, where a second shot may be necessary. Accuracy: With a 650mm barrel, I was surprised by the rifle's accuracy. At ranges up to 100 meters, the groups were tight, allowing for precise shot placement. This caliber is known for its flat trajectory, and the Vulkan SXR does it justice. Comfortable Ergonomics: The rifle features a well-designed stock that fits comfortably against the shoulder. The adjustable cheek piece is a thoughtful addition, allo

A Night in Hippo Heaven By Donald J Stoner It is said that hippos kill more people in Africa than any other animal (if you exclude mosquitos). But does that qualify them to be classified as dangerous game. I have certainly had my doubts until, that is, an experience I had one night in a farmer’s field. There is no question that an animal that weighs two tons, can run up to 20 mph and has huge teeth, has the potential of being dangerous. I don’t think any predator will attack a full-grown hippo in the water, although a big croc will certainly snatch a small hippo given half a chance. On the other hand, lion, especially a large pride, will attack a hippo if they catch it on land. This may have something to do with hippo temperament when they are away from water. Threaten a hippo on land, and it will head straight for the nearest water an
