ORANGE IS A NEW BLACK Stay safe when hunting by following these tips: -Check weather reports before embarking on a hunting trip. -Tell someone where you will be hunting and when you will return. -Be familiar with the area you want to hunt. Bring a map and compass. -Carry a basic survival kit and be prepared for an unexpected overnight stay in the field. The survival kit should contain a rope, a knife, water, waterproof matches, an emergency shelter, and first aid supplies. -Dress properly and be prepared for the worst possible conditions. -Wear hunter orange as your outermost gear so that you are visible to other hunters. Do not wear white or tan during deer season. -Always treat your weapon as if it is loaded, even if it isn't, and know where your hunter partners are located at all times. -If accompanied by a dog, the dog should also wear hunter orange or a very visible color on a vest, leash, coat or bandana. Check the state regulations to determine if a dog is allowed on a hunt. -

Tips for Camouflage in Hunting: Choosing the Right Camouflage, Blending In, and Minimizing Noise Effective #camouflage is key to a successful #hunt, as blending into the environment lets hunters approach their target undetected. Here are some tips on choosing the right #camouflage_gear, staying hidden in the forest or open areas, and minimizing noise. Camouflage: How to Choose the Right One The choice of camouflage depends on the terrain, season, and time of day. In the forest, green and brown tones help blend in with trees and foliage, while in winter conditions, a white-grey camouflage works best on snowy terrain. For hunting in open plains, beige and brown colors are better, blending in with grass and dry landscapes. Seasonal #hunting_camouflage also varies: summer clothing is lightweight and breathable, while winter gear is warm and can come with snow covers. Blending in on Different Terrains Beyond camouflage, choose #hunting_gear that doesn’t stand out in the environment. Hats

How to Hunt Africa on a Budget
Chances Are You Can Do It Cheaper Than a Premium Elk Hunt

How to Hunt Africa on a Budget Chances Are You Can Do It Cheaper Than a Premium Elk Hunt My palms hurt and my knees were bloody from crawling over rocks. My legs ached. My lungs were threatening to quit on me if I had to climb one more mountain chasing a herd that was skittish to the point of paranoia. The guide and I had pursued them up and over so many mountains and glassed them from so many hidden vantage points that I had no idea how much territory we had covered or how we’d ever find our way back to the truck. When the shot opportunity finally came, it was a long one — 320 yards from our spot on a hill to where the bull was feeding on the opposite ridge. “Hold a foot high,” the guide said, and that turned out to be dead accurate. The cows scattered in a panic at the blast, and not long afterward we were standing over a mature bull I had worked harder for than any animal I’ve taken before or since. Sounds like a fairly typical elk hunt, right? Except it wasn’t an elk and I wasn’t

5 Snow Goose Stops You’ve Never Tried Chasing spring snow geese is one of the fastest growing pursuits in hunting, and with good reason. The most obvious of its attractions are the tens of millions of birds that string out from Texas to the Canadian tundra and from the coast of California to the Eastern Shore. But as the spring migration has ballooned, so has the hunting competition. Meanwhile, it takes plenty of gear and cash to get into the game: e-callers, massive decoy rigs, pallets of ammunition and gasoline for finding fresh birds for the next day’s flight. You might wonder why we go to the trouble. But if you spend one day under twisting white flocks with 10 shotgun shells in an extension magazine before you run it to the plug again and again, you’ll understand. Arkansas, Missouri and South Dakota are the hotbeds for chasing the reverse migration, but a few places are still devoid of big crowds, no matter if you’re a do-it-yourself or pay-to-play hunter. The Grizzly Bear Chair is a gift from hunter Seth Kinman to President Andrew Johnson. 1865, USA Seth Kinman (September 29, 1815 – February 24, 1888) was an early settler of Humboldt County, California, a hunter based in Fort Humboldt, a famous chair maker, and a nationally recognized entertainer. He stood over 6 ft (1.83 m) tall and was known for his hunting prowess and his brutality toward bears and Indian warriors. Kinman claimed to have shot a total of over 800 grizzly bears, and, in a single month, over 50 elk. He was also a hotel keeper, saloon keeper, and a musician who performed for President Lincoln on a fiddle made from the skull of a mule. The Grizzly Bear Chair is a unique chair presented to Andrew Johnson, the 17th President of the United States, in 1865. It was made of bear skin and decorated in a style popular at the time. The chair became a symbol of Johnson's personal preferences and reflected his connection with nature and the frontier spirit. The armchair not only s

Hunting With Dogs: Training & Safety Tips Hunting with your dog is an exhilarating way to experience outdoor life with your furred friend. Dogs have been hunting with humans for millennia. Many hunting breeds were actually developed specifically to find, flush out, or retrieve game. But that doesn’t mean that your dog will automatically know what to do on a hunt. Before you head out in search of game with your canine companion, you’ll need to train your dog. Aside from helping you find and retrieve the quarry you’re after, dogs also must become used to loud sounds like gunshots. You’ll also need to bring along the proper hunting gear necessary to keep your dog safe and satisfied in the field. Get Your Dog Used To Gunshots Gunshots are loud and can spook your dog into running off in the middle of a hunt. That’s why gun training is so important. Cara Harper is an expert in the field who regularly hunts with her Labrador Retrievers, Nita and Rou. Harper and her husband trained their pu

Hunting is an exciting outdoor activity, but safety must always come first. Whether you’re a seasoned hunter or new to the sport, following key safety measures is critical for an enjoyable experience. Here are some essential safety tips that every hunter should know: 1. Wear the Right Hunting Gear Always wear proper #huntinggear, especially blaze orange clothing to remain visible to other hunters. Protect yourself from the elements with appropriate #huntingclothing, and if you’re hunting from a tree stand, don’t forget your #safetyharness. 2. Be Sure of Your Target and What’s Beyond It One of the golden rules of #huntersafety is knowing your target and what lies beyond it. Whether you're using a bow, rifle, or shotgun, this practice is crucial to avoid accidents. Safe #firearmshandling means keeping your finger off the trigger until you’re ready to fire. 3. Handle Firearms Safely Treat every weapon as if it’s loaded and always point it in a safe direction. Refresh your #shootingskil

Sytong XM 03-50 LRF Review I recently had the opportunity to test the Sytong XM 03-50 LRF, and here's my honest assessment of this product. Firstly, the build quality of the scope is commendable. It feels robust and well-made, able to withstand rough handling in the field. The design is sleek and modern, which is a plus for those who appreciate aesthetics in their gear. The optics are impressive for the price point. The clarity and brightness of the image are noticeable, even in low-light conditions. The 50mm objective lens does a great job of gathering light, making it suitable for dawn and dusk hunting trips. However, I did find some distortion at the edges at full zoom, which may be a downside for some users. The integrated laser rangefinder (LRF) is a significant feature that adds value to the XM 03-50. It delivers accurate readings relatively quickly, which is essential for making precise shots. However, I experienced some occasional lag in the reading, especially at longer di

Review of the Tikka T3 Hunter .30-06 with Leupold Scope on Weaver Rail As an avid hunter who has taken this rifle on numerous hunts, including deer, elk, and even a few challenging trips for wild boar, I feel confident sharing my experience with the Tikka T3 Hunter in .30-06 Springfield. Paired with a Leupold scope mounted on a Weaver rail, this setup has been my go-to for several seasons. Here’s my detailed take on its performance, pros, and cons. Pros: Accuracy: The Tikka T3 Hunter is a laser beam. Out of the box, it consistently delivers sub-MOA groups at 100 yards with factory ammunition. The .30-06 cartridge is versatile, and the rifle handles it beautifully. Whether I was taking a 150-yard shot at a whitetail or stretching it out to 300 yards on an elk, the rifle performed flawlessly. Build Quality: The Finnish craftsmanship is evident. The stock is made of high-quality wood, which not only looks stunning but also feels solid in hand. The blued steel barrel and action a

Missouri to Allow Drone Use During Hunting Season Allowing drones to be used in recover is becoming more common across the United States. All use of drones in hunting seasons has been banned in Missouri until now. The Missouri Department of Conservation released several rule changes ahead of the 2024 season. These changes include the approval of drones used specifically in recovering wounded deer, turkey, elk, and black bear. All other uses of drones to aid in the hunt are still prohibited. Pursuing, taking, driving, or harassing wildlife is still not legal. These changes reflect a growing shift toward utilizing technology to prevent the loss of animals. Drone operators must obtain permission before flying over private land in Missouri. They are also restricted from possessing a weapon during flight. There are specific regulations and rules that are required by the state of Missouri to operate a drone, even if only for recreational use. The FAA requires all drone operators to take Th

HOLY ELK! Look what we found at the Kilkenny Castle in Ireland. They are REAL antlers from a prehistoric Irish elk! AND (according to our guide) they are mounted on the wall at their actual height! They are the largest deer that ever lived, and went extinct between 8,000 and 6,000 years ago. They earned the name Irish elk because so many bodies were preserved in Irish peat bogs. These massive ungulates weighed between weighed 990-1,520 pounds and stood as tall as an Alaskan moose at 6 feet 11 inches at the shoulders! The size of their antlers was utterly staggering. In fact, that is very likely the cause of their extinction. Many agree that their huge antler size may have contributed to a mineral deficiency which ultimately killed the animal off. So at least it wasn’t humans!

"Norway - 'King of the Forest' is Causing a Stir" The moose is called the "king of the forest". There are good reasons for that, it is Norway's largest mammal on land. "I have never seen anything like it, and I have seen many animals throughout my photography career, says photographer Thomas Mørch." He is talking about the spotted elk that walks around Hallingdal. A few years ago Albin the albino moose became such a big celebrity that the hunting teams protected him. A white national treasure, which was felled by a Danish hunter in 2011 who had not caught the "protection". Now the forest has a new moose that stands out. It is not completely white, but mottled. >>Full article link: https://www.nrk.no/osloogviken/flekkete-elg-vekker-oppsikt-_-er-rammet-av-piebaldisme-1.16675513?fbclid=IwAR0zT8q25thsHFWt0nMJHu8S0IwL5Oig3tfbkanFiP6QSXicYBG3Nqa5EW0

Naivis Gen 2+ Night Vision Scope: Honest Hunter's Review Look, I've been hunting for over 20 years. I've seen gear come and go, and I'm not easily impressed by fancy gadgets. I decided to give the Naivis Gen 2+ night vision scope a try, hoping it would give me an edge during those low-light hunts. I paired it with the Naivis 850nm IR illuminator, which I'll touch on later. Here's my honest take: Naivis Gen 2+ The Good: Decent Image Quality (For Gen 2+): Let's be clear, it's not Gen 3 clarity, but for the price point and being a Gen 2+, the image is surprisingly good. It provides a usable image in fairly dark conditions, allowing target identification out to a reasonable distance (about 150-200 yards in my experience). It definitely beats trying to hunt with binos and a prayer. Sturdy Build: The scope feels solid. It's been bumped around in my pack, endured some light rain, and still holds zero. That's crucial when you're out in the bush. Adjustable Brightness: The ability to adjus

The Right Way to Clean and Store Your Hunting Rifle Properly caring for your deer gun’s barrel and action ensures it’ll be ready to go again next fall Deer season is over, and now is the perfect time to give your rifle a thorough annual cleaning. Store your gun in a secure and rust-free environment and it will be in good working order when you break it out for a range session in a few months. Gun-Cleaning Gear To do the job right, you need to secure your rifle horizontally in a vise. A vise attached to a workbench at your house will work fine. Or you can purchase a portable gun vise from a company that specializes in firearms-cleaning accessories. Spend $40 or more for a universal gun-cleaning kit, which will include a three-piece bore rod and an assortment of jags, brushes, patches, and other accessories for cleaning not only your bolt-action, but also other handguns and long guns that you own. Also, and this is important, purchase a bore guide, which will protect the bore and action

Last weekend, I embarked on an unforgettable hunting trip in the heart of California’s wilderness. The journey began at the crack of dawn, with the sun casting a golden hue over the sprawling landscapes of the San Bernardino National Forest. Armed with my gear and a sense of adventure, I set out to explore the rugged terrain. The forest was alive with the sounds of nature, from the rustling leaves to the distant calls of wildlife.
