DON’T ABANDON OTHER FOODS There’s no question deer migrate to oaks when acorns start falling, but even when a majority of their diet consists of acorns, they eat other food. "I have a couple of food plots adjacent to some mature white oaks,” Giles said. “I see deer feeding in the plots all the time, even when there is a good acorn crop. They don’t spend nearly as much time in the food plots when there are lots of acorns, but they will certainly stop for a few bites of clover or oats on their way to or from acorns.” The edges of bean fields also are worth hunting, but find an oak dropping acorns on the edge of that bean field and you’ve found a potential hotspot. Isolated fruit trees, native and planted, draw deer throughout the early autumn, too. Sandiford likes to find fruit-bearing persimmon trees near oaks. “If you can get a combination of foods in a small area, you’ve got a real good place to hang a stand,” he said. Hunting during an epic acorn crop can drive you nuts, but thePost: 12 October 08:06
Montana man convicted of poaching four bucks A Montana man recently lost his hunting privileges for the next 16 years after poaching four mule deer bucks last October. Brayden Reed was convicting of spotlighting and shooting two bucks on Oct. 2 and a third buck on private property on Oct. 8 before taking them to BLM’s Ah-Nei Recreation Area where he removed the antlers and backstraps, according to a press release. Reed did not have a valid hunting license at the time nor tags for any of the deer. All of the incidents occurred before the start of general deer season on Oct. 23. The bonus? During the investigation, Montana Fish, Wildlife and Parks game warden Connor Langel also discovered a fourth illegally killed mule deer. Reed pleaded guilty to four counts of unlawful possession of deer, two counts of wasting game, three counts of hunting during a closed season, two counts of unlawful use of equipment, two counts of hunting without a license and one count of killing more than a lPost: 14 July 10:36

BASC - BRITISH ASSOCIATION FOR SHOOTING AND CONSERVATION BASC plays a crucial role in preserving shooting traditions in UK while adapting them to meet modern standards of sustainability and ethics. The British Association for Shooting and Conservation (BASC) is one of the largest hunting organizations in the UK. TRADITION AND CULTURAL SIGNIFICANCE Shooting has deep historical roots in British culture, dating back centuries to medieval times when it was practiced by royalty and nobility. Over time, it became a popular pastime among rural communities, fostering connections between people and the natural world. The origins of BASC date back to the mid-19th century when hunting was an integral part of rural life in Britain. Initially founded as the "National Wildfowlers' Association" in 1865, the organization aimed to protect the rights of wildfowlers (waterfowl hunters) and promote ethical hunting practices. Over time, its scope expanded to include all forms of shooting—game birds, dPost: 12 February 17:34

What motivates a woman to go hunting? Is it a tribute to fashion, a love of a certain style of clothing, or a desire to be the center of attention? Or is it still that powerful primal instinct that has always been inside the weaker sex? Girls who come to hunt are united by qualities such as activity, respect for nature and discipline. They are all mothers, wives, employees of companies who bear a heavy burden of household and work problems. 🇷🇺 But when these beautiful women go hunting, they open up even more! Women are by no means the weaker sex. They are strong, brave, determined hunters! They are accurate, fast. They are the best!Post: 11 March 09:48
Cambodia Wildlife Travelers to Cambodia may find that although Cambodia is not primarily a wildlife viewing destination, some isolated pockets of forest may offer some of the best opportunities for wildlife spotting in all of SE Asia. Cambodia’s wildlife diversity is at critically low levels due to deforestation and habitat destruction. It is home to about 16 globally endangered species and 2 critically endangered species. Some larger mammal species found here are dholes, elephants, deer, panthers, bears, tigers, cormorants, cranes, crocodile, and wild water buffalo. Many organizations are working together to try and protect Cambodia’s remaining wildlife diversity. Wildlife is mostly isolated to pockets where intact habitat still remains, including the dry forest along the Lower Mekong, the Elephant Mountains, and the Cardamom Mountains. For wildlife enthusiasts traveling to Cambodia for a short time, one of the most iconic places to spot wildlife in Cambodia is in the Post: 5 December 17:50
Training hunting dog puppies is an essential step in cultivating their natural instincts and preparing them for a successful future in the field. The key to effective training lies in starting early, as puppies are most receptive to learning during their first few months of life. Begin with basic obedience commands such as "sit," "stay," and "come," which lay the foundation for more advanced skills. Incorporating play into training is crucial, as puppies learn best when they are engaged and having fun. Use interactive games that mimic hunting scenarios, such as fetch or hide and seek, to encourage their instinctual behaviors. Gradually introduce them to scents and tracking exercises, allowing them to explore their extraordinary olfactory capabilities. Socialization is another fundamental aspect of training hunting puppies. Expose them to various environments, people, and other animals to build their confidence and adaptability. A well-socialized puppy will be more comfortable in the Post: 21 October 09:00
The season is closed, we are waiting for the new season! Speaking about hunting in 🇮🇷 Iran for ibex and rams, we have already become accustomed to the fact that the season is regulated not only by the time of year and the life cycles of animals. Within these frameworks, there are even stricter restrictions on issuing official hunting permits. The permitted time at the beginning of 2025 was just enough for several groups of hunters to manage to get everything ✅ planned. 📆 The hunt in January and February was very successful for our hunters, 💯 everyone got a result! We got a trans-Caspian urial, two red rams, an Esfahan mouflon, two bezoar ibex. We are very pleased and grateful to our hunters that everyone fought to the end, despite the difficult weather conditions, very difficult landscapes and strong winds 🌬 👏 Congratulations and accept applications for the next season: Esfahan mouflon, Kerman ram, Persian desert and bezoar ibex, red ram. HOW TO STAY WARM WHILE HUNTING Cold weather means whitetails are going to be on their feet more than normal. So, you have choices to make. Stay at home and watch hunting shows on TV, go to the field and be miserable or embrace the cold and learn how to make the most of it. I have lived in North Dakota for 26 years. In that time, I have hunted some very harsh conditions. It’s never an easy hunt but the rewards can make it well worth the effort. There are many factors involved in comfortably hunting cold weather including proper preparation, quality clothing, individual tolerances and plain ole determination. Here are some of my tips for not just surviving a cold weather hunt but actually enjoying it. HOW TO DRESS FOR COLD WEATHER Feet - Most people have trouble keeping their feet warm. RED DEER The majestic Red Deer is the king of the French forests. An emblematical animal in Europe and mythical through Saint Hubertus’s legend, the hunters’ Patron Saint : the legend says that On Good Friday morning, when the faithful were crowding the churches, Hubert went anyway after deer. As he was chasing a magnificent white stag the animal turned and, as the pious legend narrates, he was astounded at perceiving a crucifix standing between its antlers and he heard God’s voice talking to him. Commonly present on most territories we hunt, be they in forest areas near Paris or in the south of France. Also impressive with a strong and graceful appearance, big male adults weigh up to 250 kilos (550 lbs). The red deer hunt begins early September to the end of February. The mating season usually takes place from mid-September to mid-October, it is then the best chance to see the biggest males and the most interesting trophies French red deer trophies are often splendid and as diversePost: 26 June 00:01
One of my favorite (and there are many) parts of our trips to South Africa is going to different places, hunting incredible animals, meeting and spending time with new friends, and seeing really cool things. Last year was no exception when we went for a very memorable hunt for a Blue Springbok, culling some Blesbok, getting to hold the oldest gun I’ve ever seen in this toradar from the 17th or 18th century, drinking some fantastic brandy with our host, and doing it all with my beautiful wife Ale’ on our honeymoon. New York Hunter Gets a Second Chance on This 180-Inch Buck “I was shaking so bad I missed him clean, sending my arrow three feet over his back” eremy Williams likes to hunt his family’s 500-acre parcel near the Susquehanna River in south-central New York. He goes down to the river often, and last summer he spotted a giant buck near the bank while catfishing. Williams watched where the deer bedded, and then came back to place trail cams in the area. By October, he’d learned the buck’s habits well enough to make his move. “He was only 20 yards away from me on Oct. 10,” Williams tells Outdoor Life. “But I was shaking so bad I missed him clean, sending my arrow three feet over his back.” Eager to redeem himself this season, Williams kept an eye on his trail cams and he kept getting photos of the buck. A few other hunters in the area had spotted the buck, too. But he wasn’t an easy deer to pattern. “I’d been bowhunting him on [our] family’s land in low, thick areas because I believed thPost: 4 December 09:38

Lynx hunting requires careful preparation If you intend to go lynx hunting, you should start tracking lynx movements immediately after the first snowfall. This way the hunters can find out the number of lynxes in the area and the structure of the population. A keen eye is needed in deciphering lynx tracks, as the lynx likes to take advantage of hard pathways formed on the snow during soft snow season. In lynx hunting one hunter acts as a beater chasing the animal towards the shooters, or you can use a dog. Dog breeds that like to go after foxes will usually also eagerly chase lynxes. Big game dogs with pointed ears are also well suited for lynx hunting. A shotgun loaded with 4 mm shot is a good weapon for the purpose. A snow suit allows a shooter to better blend in with the wintry landscape. The lynx has excellent hearing. One should always remember this during a hunt. The shooters must remain as quiet as possible as they lie in wait. The lynx picks up gun loading sounds, the creakinPost: 29 November 18:15
D I N O S A U R I am still in shock. This hunt was exceptionally meaningful to me and Dinosaur truly is a bull of a lifetime!! We were nearly 26 miles into the backcountry with the pack string. We had spent a lot of time behind the glass learning all of the bulls in the area. The old bull we had nicknamed Dinosaur, was one that stood out for his age, distinct bugle and incredible mass. He was an old warrior. The thought that I would be placing my hands on Dinosaur as my personal bull never crossed my mind. I would have been happy with any legal bull I was given the opportunity on. I was surrounded by some of my favorite people in the entire world and this hunt/bull/opportunity would have never been possible without them. Huge thank you to Josh and Laci Martolgio. As with any hunt, there were a lot of highs and lows. The story is one for the books and too long to share on here. I’ll try to get it written to share with you all at some point. Elk Hunting on Your Own Most attempts at DIY bulls fail miserably, but these experts are here to help Nearly every big game hunter dreams of elk hunting out West, but most of the time, that dream is not a reality. The first thing the out-of-stater thinks about when planning for an elk hunt is being in physical shape, and that’s important. But if you live near sea level, nothing can prepare your body for the change in elevation except for time. Vanderheyden sees it every year. “The altitude can really take it away from you at first. It can reduce your ability for critical thinking and physically drain you for the first few days,” he says. “I’ve seen people come out here and have to turn around and leave because they felt so bad. Labour accuses Government of being ‘complicit’ in trophy trade Delays to the Hunting Trophies (Import Prohibition) Bill have led to accusations that Conservative peers are slowing the Bill intentionally. Labour has accused the Government of being “complicit” in trophy hunting after a bill that would see imports banned in the UK became tied up in the House of Lords. Commons leader Penny Mourdaunt has insisted that MPs will get another chance to debate the Hunting Trophies (Import Prohibition) Bill, though more Parliamentary time will have to be allocated. Opposition politicians accused Conservative peers of filibustering and trying to prevent the Bill from becoming law. Added amendments were branded last week as “death by a thousand cuts” in Parliament, with 62 being added separately. Blackfeet Nation in Banff National Park, 1913. Photographer: Rolanda W. Reed The Blackfeet, also known as the Blackfoot Confederation, are an Indian people or a group of linguistically related peoples living in the northwest of Montana in the USA and in the south of the province of Alberta in Canada. The name of the people — Siksikaitsitapi — comes from the color of moccasins, siksikanam "black" and okkati "foot". According to legend, the Blackfeet led the migration of Western Algonquins from the Red River Valley to the foothills of the Rocky Mountains. Up until 1730, the Blackfeet traveled on foot and used dogs to transport their utensils. The Shoshones acquired horses much earlier than the Blackfeet and soon occupied most of modern-day Alberta and Montana, as well as part of Wyoming, raiding their enemies. When the Blackfeet saw their horses for the first time and realized all the advantages of these animals, they wanted to take possession of them. They named the ponokamite Post: 5 January 04:57

In France hunters almost always hunt with dogs, but usually on foot - less commonly on horseback. The dogs may be owned by the individual owners or by the hunt as a whole. The dogs belong to specific breeds of hunt dog. Most hunters in France belong to a specific type of 'pack of hunPost: 14 June 17:07
