“Ever since I was a kid, an Alaskan moose hunt has been at the top of my list. And, this season, it was finally here. We were dropped deep into in the Brooks Range and quickly found ourselves chasing rutting bulls through the tundra swamps, tussocks, and ridge lines. After about a week and a handful of incredible encounters, we were hit with a days-long September snow storm. The sudden weather shift also called for a change in our tactics; we began to hunt bull moose more like a Midwest whitetail. Setting up along an obvious trail—that move proved to be the best decision we made on the entire trip. As we waited to fly the meat out, we glassed up a large grizzly—a bonus opportunity after an already successful hunt. We put a plan for a stalk in place and with luck still on our side, it all came together. There are no words to describe a hunt like this other than, once-in-a-lifetime.” - Mathews own’ Jeff Ozanne #MathewsLIFTX #mathews

🇺🇸 Early wake-ups and late evenings is what roebuck hunting is all about. In between, long hours of planning the “best” strategy for that one buck which keeps your hunter and you awake during the short sleeping hours of the night. What will the wind do? Will the females around him spot us and run away scuppering our chances of success? When hunting for such special bucks, usually nothing ever comes as planned over so many times in your mind. But sometimes, when everything is perfect, it simply happens, finding yourself just a few meters away from the buck of your dreams. The rest is history. New Zealand: the perfect trip The more difficult the route and the further away the point on the map, the more carefully you prepare for the trip. And more often than not, expectations from a new place are too high. But not in the case of a trip to 🇳🇿New Zealand! This place cannot be overestimated. The beauty of nature, comfort, high standard of living, culture, service. Everything here 💯 is incredibly 💯 enjoyable! Hunting is also a mix of wild open hunting for local mountain tare and chamois and hunting on a farm for deer - red deer, wapiti, fallow deer, white-tailed and wild sheep. You can either run around the ⛰mountains in fair pursuit, or pick up beautiful antlers for a qualifying trophy down on the 🏞 plain. Tastes and goals are different. In New Zealand, everything will be selected so that you will definitely like it. 👉 We strongly recommend leaving a few days for traveling around the islands 🏝 and fjords. You will have something to tell your grandchildren! 💬 write

WHAT IS HARE HUNTING? Hare hunting involves the pursuing of hares by a pack of harriers, beagles, or bassets with followers either on foot or on horseback. The Association of Masters of Harriers and Beagles lists 71 current hare hunts that are still operating. Similar to the fox hunting season, hare hunting takes place between late August until March. However, whilst fox hunting takes place all over the country, hare hunting tends to be limited to certain areas and this is because hares stay within their territory. Hares spend the entirety of their lives above ground and so during the chase they do not seek safety underground like foxes do. This means they tend to stick to the area that they know and run in loops whilst being pursued by the hounds. Hare hunts can often last up to an hour with hares desperately doing everything they can to escape. Ultimately the hare being hunted will give up from exhaustion and be caught by the faster hounds before it is ripped to pieces.

Talarik Creek Lodge: Hunting for Trophy Rainbow Trout I answered him that it was not, and he shrugged off the 18-inch Arctic grayling on the end of my line like it was a piece of weed. My wife had sent us fishing that evening to catch some fresh grayling for dinner and our goal was now achieved, with four large, translucent-white-fleshed fish having been plucked from the cold waters of the Newhalen River. The author’s son Lucas with what he calls “a real fish” also defined as any rainbow trout over 20 inches caught on a fly rod. What is it about rainbow trout that incites such excitement? Why is it that when fishing guides congregate around a fire the conversation always finds its way to rainbows, not salmon, not char, not pike, but definitely rainbows? “Keep it in the water,” “Careful, don’t drop it,” and “Nice release,” are all phrases I’ve heard said and spoken myself. I have a personal admiration for the green-speckled creatures, and rainbow trout fishing has a cult following tha
