Every year I take a Christmas break from the trap line to put up fur. I flesh, dry leather, then turn fur side out and pin. This is the most cats I’ve done in a day and I’m beat. Now I will get the possession tags back on, hang and let dry at precisely 55 degrees with the fans on. After they are dry, I’ll dry clean with borax so they come out beautiful, clean and fluffy!Post: 20 December 17:58

Meet Max, my loyal hunting companion. From the moment we set foot in the forest, Max’s excitement is palpable. His keen senses and unwavering loyalty make every hunting trip an adventure. 🐕✨ One crisp autumn morning, we ventured deep into the woods, the air filled with the scent of pine and the rustle of leaves. Max, with his nose to the ground, led the way. Suddenly, he froze, his ears perked up. I knew he had found something. 🦌🍂 Following his lead, we moved silently through the underbrush. Max’s instincts were spot on; we spotted a majestic deer grazing in a clearing. With a steady hand and a calm breath, I took the shot. Max’s tail wagged furiously as he retrieved our prize. 🏹🌿 But it’s not just about the hunt. It’s about the bond we share, the trust we build, and the memories we create. Max isn’t just a hunting dog; he’s my partner, my friend, and my greatest ally in the wild. 🐾❤️ Here’s to many more adventures with my best friend by my side. 🥂🌲 #HuntingCompanion #WiPost: 24 September 14:20
Potato Latkes with Alaska Salmon Roe “These little potato cakes called latkes are quick, simple, and versatile. I serve them as a side dish to roasted birds or as a brunch dish topped with eggs and smoked salmon. There are plenty of other uses, but for me the best is the way I had them as a kid. I remember watching my grandmother patiently and lovingly grate potatoes then onions by hand into a bowl. She would crack a few eggs, season with salt and pepper and stir gently so the mixture would just barely assemble. Using a spoon, she would scoop a little batter out and in a well-rehearsed manner, then she would drop them carefully one by one into a hot skillet generously slicked with duck fat. As the cakes sizzled, the intoxicating aromas filled our tiny kitchen. I stood by her side like an untrained puppy panting for his treat. She would give me the very first one, hot, straight out of the pan, unadorned. She would blow on it lovingly so it would not burn my lips and as I took a bite, Post: 31 October 10:40
These days there are very few new products that I would actually call a “game changer.” Many are truthfully nothing more than a twist on an old idea or a slight improvement over something already available. When I first saw the new Primos Double Bull SurroundView hunting blinds at the January trade shows, I instantly said to myself, “game changer.” When I was able to hunt Axis deer in south Texas from one with a rifle in June, my opinion didn’t change. Since then I’ve had one at home and have been playing with it a lot in anticipation of some summer bow hunts. All I can say is, it’s something else. If you’re familiar with Double Bull pop-up blinds, then you need no convincing of their ruggedness and an interior configuration that's design is one that's well thought-out by hunters. My only beef with Double Bull blinds over the years is that, while their hub-and-pole system makes them solid as a rock once erected, putting up and taking the blinds down can be a bit of a challenge until Post: 25 October 10:20
5 Tips to Set Up a Hunting Trophy Room! Start with a design Before you start hanging trophy kills, you need to start with the design. A design will give you practical steps on how you want the room to look and feel. Start with planning the purpose of this room. Is this just going to house your trophies? Will it be a centerpiece of your home? How many trophies do you plan to have in the future? These questions can help solidify what type of hanging racks you want to use and if you want to add special features such as seating, tv, bar, etc. It’s important to nail down these details first before you even start putting up any deer. These details can help guide you for the future and negate costly mistakes. Create a focal point As with any other room in your home, you want to use a simple but tried and true design technique. You want to create a focal point in your hunting trophy room. This can be an exotic animal stuffed over a fireplace, a bobcat sitting on a coffee table, or wPost: 9 June 09:38
By Frank Gentile, Hopewell, N.Y. It was October 2011, and I was back in my Chevy Tahoe on my way to another hunt. This time, instead of my son, I was traveling with my hunting buddies. My buddies and I had been on plenty of trips together before but never to Texas! Between the four of us and gear for six (two of our team opted to fly from New York to San Antonio), every single spare inch of space in the truck had been utilized. With each of us taking turns driving, we made it to Texas in about 20 hours. We got dinner and hotel rooms in Texarkana, and were back on the road early the next morning. With a day to spare before we were due at our hunting camp in Hondo, Texas, we headed south with plans to enjoy the city of San Antonio along the way. In San Antonio, we explored the Alamo, the River Walk and the Buckhorn Saloon and Texas Ranger Museum. What a great city! Our first order of business after arriving at the camp the next morning was to make sure that our rifles were on target. Post: 22 November 14:38

Group two of this year’s trainees started their overnight hunt on Saturday morning. After hiking to their campsite with the aid of the club gps units, it was time for a quick target validation sighting session. Next it was time to hit the hills. It was a slow start with the animals all bedded down and refusing to break cover. Eventually an animal presented a shot while being tucked away in the bush. By the end of the weekend, which went late into Sunday arvo, all of group two had an animal packed into their vehicles. Once again the trainees all learnt heaps and left for home with big smiles all round. The instructors for group two were Ron, Neil, Steve and Hamish, and thanks again to Muddy Waters Hunting NZ and Hamish Luce for being our host.Post: 28 March 17:56

Hunting is a vital wildlife management tool. It keeps nature at a healthy balance of which the available habitat can support (carrying capacity). For many wildlife species, hunting also helps to maintain populations at levels compatible with human activity and land use. Wildlife is a renewable natural resource with a surplus and hunters harvest that surplus! This harvestable surplus is never exhausted. Hunting serves as an integral part of preserving native biodiversity and has a legitimate place in modern society. Hunting keeps the Wild wild.Post: 22 November 10:21
D I N O S A U R I am still in shock. This hunt was exceptionally meaningful to me and Dinosaur truly is a bull of a lifetime!! We were nearly 26 miles into the backcountry with the pack string. We had spent a lot of time behind the glass learning all of the bulls in the area. The old bull we had nicknamed Dinosaur, was one that stood out for his age, distinct bugle and incredible mass. He was an old warrior. The thought that I would be placing my hands on Dinosaur as my personal bull never crossed my mind. I would have been happy with any legal bull I was given the opportunity on. I was surrounded by some of my favorite people in the entire world and this hunt/bull/opportunity would have never been possible without them. Huge thank you to Josh and Laci Martolgio. As with any hunt, there were a lot of highs and lows. The story is one for the books and too long to share on here. I’ll try to get it written to share with you all at some point. But at the end of it all, this true Post: 9 October 17:26
