Odborníci z olomoucké zoo sestavili plemennou knihu pro siku vietnamského Zoologické zahrady na celém světě loni na podzim chovaly 419 jedinců jelena siky vietnamského, který byl v přírodě vyhuben. Zjistili to odborníci při tvorbě plemenné knihy tohoto jelena, jejímž vydáním Světová asociace zoologických zahrad a akvárií pověřila Zoologickou zahradu Olomouc. Siku vietnamského chová 39 zoo, z toho 35 v Evropě. Druhé největší stádo siků vietnamských mimo Vietnam je v zoo Olomouc a čítá 25 jedinců, sdělil ČTK vědecký pracovník olomoucké zoo a koordinátor Evropského programu pro siku vietnamského Jan Pluháček, který je garantem plemenné knihy. Plemenná kniha se používá pro přesnou registraci všech zvířat daného druhu chovaných v lidské péči. S pomocí této publikace lze v zoologických zahradách vytvářet chovné skupiny. Nevada hunters make positive impact on rural economies Nevada hunters help local economies through their hunting dollars. A new study conducted by the University of Nevada, Reno (UN-R) in collaboration with the Nevada Department of Wildlife (NDOW) analyzed data from 2020 and looked at the amount of money spent on travel and hunting expenses as well as hunting-related expenses like all-terrain vehicles, firearms, ammunition and campers, according to a press release. The conclusion? Big money comes from big game and upland game hunters, which positively impacts rural communities where “wildlife is plentiful,” particularly in Elko, White Pine and Lincoln counties. In 2020, hunters spent about $380 million on hunting in Nevada. Judge Issues Injunction Blocking Wisconsin Fall Wolf Hunt A judge on Friday (10/22/2021) halted Wisconsin's fall wolf season two weeks before hunters were set to take to the woods, siding with wildlife advocacy groups who argued holding the hunt would be unconstitutional. Dane County Circuit Judge Jacob Frost issued a temporary injunction halting the season, which was set to begin November 6. The order comes as part of a lawsuit that a coalition of wildlife advocacy groups filed in August seeking to stop the hunt and invalidate a state law authorizing annual seasons. SOUTH DAKOTA RANCHERS UPSET OVER NUMBER OF ELK CONTINGENCY LICENSES South Dakota ranchers are angry over the number of elk contingency licenses recently issued across four units, especially because they were involved in the creation of the new elk management plan in 2015. South Dakota Game, Fish and Parks (SDGFP) announced this week that there would be 20 of these licenses in units that span both public and private property, the Black Hills Pioneer reports. The elk contingency licenses are used to “reduce the elk population in areas that have been heavily affected by drought,” said Andrew Norton, SDGFP senior big game biologist.
