It may also include the controversial hunting of captive or semi-captive animals expressly bred and raised under controlled or semi-controlled conditions so as to attain trophy characteristics; this is sometimes known as canned hunts.Post: 18 October 18:30

Faroe Islands to set quota of 500 dolphins to be killed in controversial whale hunt The government of the Faroe Islands is proposing a catch limit of 500 dolphins for the territory's annual whale hunt this year. The move comes after last year’s pursuit saw more than 1,400 animals slaughtered in one day during the Faroese centuries-old traditional hunt, the Faroese government announced in news release this week. Grindadrap, also known as the Grind, is an annual hunt that takes place on the remote North Atlantic islands halfway between Iceland and Scotland. This week, the government announced in the release that the capping measure was “in response to the unusually large catch” on Sept. 14, 2021. Warning: Graphic photo below The government is proposing an annual catch limit of 500 white-sided dolphins for both 2022 and 2023. 🦌 Successful Roe Deer Hunt Today: A Day to Remember This morning’s hunt was a textbook example of patience and preparation paying off. After tracking signs near the forest edge, I spotted a mature roe buck moving cautiously through the mist-covered brush. One clean shot — ethical, quick, and respectful. The gear, the wind, and timing all aligned perfectly. There’s something special about roe deer hunting: the quiet strategy, the light step, and the reward of reading nature correctly. If you’re new to stalking or planning your first roe deer hunt this season, now’s a great time — movement is high, and conditions are favorable. #RoeDeerHunting #SuccessfulHunt #HuntingStory #FieldNotes #StalkingGame #DeerHunterLife #EthicalHunting #EuropeanHunting #BigGameSeason #HuntingExperiencePost: 28 June 22:00

WHAT IS HARE HUNTING? Hare hunting involves the pursuing of hares by a pack of harriers, beagles, or bassets with followers either on foot or on horseback. The Association of Masters of Harriers and Beagles lists 71 current hare hunts that are still operating. Similar to the fox hunting season, hare hunting takes place between late August until March. However, whilst fox hunting takes place all over the country, hare hunting tends to be limited to certain areas and this is because hares stay within their territory. Hares spend the entirety of their lives above ground and so during the chase they do not seek safety underground like foxes do. This means they tend to stick to the area that they know and run in loops whilst being pursued by the hounds. Hare hunts can often last up to an hour with hares desperately doing everything they can to escape. Ultimately the hare being hunted will give up from exhaustion and be caught by the faster hounds before it is ripped to pieces.Post: 17 June 09:44

“Ever since I was a kid, an Alaskan moose hunt has been at the top of my list. And, this season, it was finally here. We were dropped deep into in the Brooks Range and quickly found ourselves chasing rutting bulls through the tundra swamps, tussocks, and ridge lines. After about a week and a handful of incredible encounters, we were hit with a days-long September snow storm. The sudden weather shift also called for a change in our tactics; we began to hunt bull moose more like a Midwest whitetail. Setting up along an obvious trail—that move proved to be the best decision we made on the entire trip. As we waited to fly the meat out, we glassed up a large grizzly—a bonus opportunity after an already successful hunt. We put a plan for a stalk in place and with luck still on our side, it all came together. There are no words to describe a hunt like this other than, once-in-a-lifetime.” - Mathews own’ Jeff Ozanne #MathewsLIFTX #mathewsPost: 16 December 09:21
Hunting in France: the hunt or chasse Hunting in France is, at least in rural parts, an institution. It has apparently not shown a decline in numbers in recent decades (although a lot of the hunters appear rather elderly...). Hunters in France come from all social backgrounds, which probably in part explains the lack of hostility to hunting that is seen in those countries where it is largely the gentry who control the hunting. Hunting is to be distinguished from 'pest control'. Control of foxes, ragondin or pigeons for example, usually falls to local specialists rather than the main hunters. Hunters are usually looking for deer, hares, rabbits and wild boar, and game birds such as partridge or pheasant. In France hunters almost always hunt with dogs, but usually on foot - less commonly on horseback. The dogs may be owned by the individual owners or by the hunt as a whole. The dogs belong to specific breeds of hunt dog. Most hunters in France belong to a specific type of 'pack of hunPost: 14 June 17:07

ROE DEER Roe Deer is found throughout the country, forests and plains are home to this small game, weighing 25 to 30 kg (55 to 66 lbs). Known as a clever and alert animal, it is a real challenge to stalk it. Hunting Roe Deer is very popular in France and it is common to meet and harvest great trophies, sometimes amongst the biggest ones in Europe. Due to his ingeniousness, the Roe Deer is a very interesting animal to hunt. A large part of French hunters love hunting only this specie because of the reward of the deserved trophy. Stalking is the main method of hunting, probably the most interesting and fascinating one. It is also possible to hunt this species on driven hunt.Post: 27 June 01:38

The hunt photographed here was more difficult than most — for reasons beyond the weather and rugged terrain. It was my first trip back to Alaska since my father’s death in March of this year. Dad had joined me in Alaska twice before. The first trip was to fish and explore, the second to hunt caribou above the Arctic Circle. I remember asking him, “Do you want to go caribou hunting?” He shook his head with a quick, “No, not this year.” I pressed, sliding a plane ticket and his caribou tag across the dining room table. Surprised but hesitant—65 years old and a little nervous—he said yes. By June, he was packed and ready for our mid-September departure. That was Dad—quietly determined, but always prepared. We had a great hunt, and he killed a nice bull. On each solo hunt after that, I’d message him with my InReach every few days, updating him on close calls and wild moments. He loved it all. Swedish hunters kill more than 150 brown bears in first days of annual cull Campaigners denounce ‘pure slaughter’, which could threaten survival of entire Scandinavian population The Swedish government issued 486 licences to shoot bears in this year’s hunt, equivalent to about 20% of the remaining brown bear population. This follows a record-breaking cull of 722 bears last year. By Thursday afternoon – the second day of the hunt – 152 bears had already been shot, according to Sweden’s Environmental Protection Agency.Post: 23 August 17:11
