Post: 7 August 18:45
Žival spada v družino prašičev. Je najbližji sorodnik domačih prašičev. Živijo skoraj po vsej Evropi in Aziji, z izjemo najsevernejših regij. Aklimatizirani so v Srednji in Severni Ameriki. Post: 13 July 10:28

Lyme disease: Final trial ends 20-year wait for a vaccine against the tick-borne disease How does the Lyme vaccine work? It targets an "outer surface protein" of the Lyme bacterium called OspA that’s present in the tick’s gut. It’s estimated a tick must feed on someone for about 36 hours before the bacteria spreads to its victim. That delay gives time for antibodies the tick ingests from a vaccinated person’s blood to attack the germs right at the source. In small, early-stage studies, Pfizer and Valneva reported no safety problems and a good immune response. The newest study will test if the vaccine, called VLA15, really protects and is safe. The companies aim to recruit at least 6,000 people in Lyme-prone areas including the northeast US plus Finland, Germany, the Netherlands, Poland, and Sweden.Post: 12 August 18:11

Blackfeet Nation in Banff National Park, 1913. Photographer: Rolanda W. Reed The Blackfeet, also known as the Blackfoot Confederation, are an Indian people or a group of linguistically related peoples living in the northwest of Montana in the USA and in the south of the province of Alberta in Canada. The name of the people — Siksikaitsitapi — comes from the color of moccasins, siksikanam "black" and okkati "foot". According to legend, the Blackfeet led the migration of Western Algonquins from the Red River Valley to the foothills of the Rocky Mountains. Up until 1730, the Blackfeet traveled on foot and used dogs to transport their utensils. The Shoshones acquired horses much earlier than the Blackfeet and soon occupied most of modern-day Alberta and Montana, as well as part of Wyoming, raiding their enemies. Pheasant shoots scaled back across UK after bird flu import bans Pheasant shoots across the UK are being shut down or dramatically scaled back this year because of import bans on the birds after an outbreak of bird flu. A huge number of the gamebirds shot in the country are imported from factory farms in Europe. Experts have said this practice should stop or be reduced because it risks spreading disease and has troubling implications for native nature and biodiversity. Just under 50 million pheasants are usually released each year from continental farms. A recent study suggested that at their peak in August each year, non-native common pheasants and red-legged partridges make up about half of all wild bird biomass in Britain. The annual shooting season begins on 1 October. Jeff Knott, the central and eastern England director at the RSPB, said: “The most important thing from our perspective is the bird flu situation underlines the risks of importing and releasing millions of birds iPost: 12 July 18:26

PPost: 18 October 17:50

How to Make Pemmican f you’ve ever had a meat or jerky bar made of finely chopped dried meat and perhaps berries, you may be familiar with pemmican. Pemmican consists of lean, dried meat – usually beef nowadays, but bison, deer, and elk were common back in the day) which is crushed to a powder and mixed with an equal amount of hot, rendered fat, usually beef tallow. Sometimes crushed, dried berries are added as well. For long periods of time, people can subsist entirely on pemmican, drawing on the fat for energy and the protein for strength, and glucose, when needed. Vihljamur Stefansson, eminent anthropologist and arctic explorer, went on three expeditions into the Alaskan tundra during the first quarter of the 20th century. His discoveries – including the “blond” Inuit and previously uncharted Arctic lands – brought him renown on the world stage. People were fascinated by his approach to travel and exploration, the way he thrust himself fully into the native Inuit cultures he encounPost: 15 May 15:55
ROCKY MOUNTAIN NATIONAL PARK CLOSES AREAS TO PROTECT ELK Elk that roam the Rocky Mountain National Park will get a reprieve from visitors as park officials began closing areas around the park to prevent intrusion during the fall rut. Targeted areas include roadways and trails in Horseshoe Park, Upper Beaver Meadows, Moraine Park, Harbison Meadow and Holzwarth Meadow, according to the Loveland Reporter-Herald. While 2020 had extended closure times from 7 a.m. to 10 a.m. due to the uptick in park visitors, this year, closures will occur from 5 p.m to 10 a.m. and run through Oct. 31. Fishing will still be permitted in the Fall River, Thompson River or Colorado River as posted, but also closed from 5 p.m. to 7 a.m. Colorado Parks & Wildlife stated that the “closures are intended to prevent disturbance and harassment of elk during their fall mating period and to enhance visitor elk viewing opportunities.” Stay tuned to goHUNT for further updates.Post: 16 September 18:45

Review of the ELECTRO-DOT SIGHT Red Dot Sight As an avid shooter and outdoor enthusiast, I recently had the chance to test the ELECTRO-DOT SIGHT, and I wanted to share my thoughts on it. Below are my experiences, both positive and negative. Pros: Ease of Use: One of the biggest advantages of the ELECTRO-DOT SIGHT is its user-friendly design. The dot is easy to see in various lighting conditions, making it straightforward to acquire targets quickly. The adjustment controls for elevation and windage are intuitive, allowing for quick sighting adjustments without complicating the process. Durability: This sight is built like a tank. The rugged construction feels solid and can withstand the rigors of outdoor use. I’ve taken it out in harsh conditions, including rain and mud, and it has not faltered. It’s also shockproof, which gives me confidence when using it on high-caliber firearms. Battery Life: The battery life of the ELECTRO-DOT SIGHT is impressive. I’ve noticed that I can use itPost: 10 January 14:46
An Early Start for a Day Immersed in Nature’s Beauty at the Royal Park 🌅 Yesterday, I set off at 4 AM from the outskirts of Guildford, determined to secure a parking spot early, and it was so worth it! As we arrived, the gates opened, and there were plenty of spaces available. Over the years, my wife Katie Tanner Photography and I have visited many times, especially during rutting season, but this year was much quieter compared to the past. Despite that, the experience was just as magical. Spending the day wandering through this beautiful royal park was mesmerizing. The sound of red deer calls echoing all around made for an unforgettable experience. Witnessing these magnificent creatures up close during their rut was awe-inspiring. 🦌🍂 Being out in nature like this really makes you feel connected to the natural world. I can’t wait to return with my camera as autumn continues to transform the landscape, making it even more stunning. 📸✨ #RuttingSeason #RedDeer #GuildfordNature #RPost: 8 October 09:26
SITKA Goes Under ‘Cover’ With Next-Gen Greener Camo When a brand chooses to "Go Green" these days, it tends to mean something completely different. It may seem like a new color to many, but the new palette at SITKA has a lot of hunters excited. OPTIFADE Cover is the first camo option from SITKA that brings increased levels of green and deeper shadows to its lineup. The brand worked with researchers at the University of Georgia Deer Research Lab to create the palette. The goal was to offer better concealment in “greener seasons,” with a focus on hiding hunters in densely vegetated areas and leafy tree environments. Regionally, the target audience for this new shift in shade was the eastern United States. Obviously, this isn’t going to be the top choice for golden grasslands or the red rock of the open badlands, but that isn’t what it’s meant for. Not only does Cover work well in the environments it was designed for, but it also works really well in lower-light, heavily shadowed landPost: 16 September 11:12
African Wildcat (Africa) Felis silvestris lybica DESCRIPTION (male) Head and body length 21-26 inches (545-665 mm). Tail 11-14 inches (275-360 mm). Weight 9-14 pounds (4-6 kg). (female) Head & body length 18-24 inches (460-620 mm). Tail 10-14 inches (255-355 mm). Weight 5-11 pounds (2.3-5.0 kg). Females have four pairs of teats. The African wildcat is generally recognized as the ancestor of the domestic cat (Felis catus) and often interbreeds with it. The two species are similar in size and appearance and can be difficult to identify in the field; however, there are two features that distinguish purebred wildcats from domestic cats and hybrids. In the wildcat, the backs of the ears are a rich reddish-brown, while domestic cats and hybrids usually have dark gray or black-backed ears, with perhaps a little red. A second feature is the wildcat's long legs. When a wildcat sits upright, its long front legs raise the body almost to the vertical, a position that is nearly impossible for domePost: 30 June 15:41
The wild boar (Sus scrofa), also known as the wild swine, common wild pig, Eurasian wild pig, or simply wild pig, is a suid native to much of Eurasia and North Africa, and has been introduced to the Americas and Oceania. The species is now one of the widest-ranging mammals in the world, as well as the most widespread suiform. It has been assessed as least concern on the IUCN Red List due to its wide range, high numbers, and adaptability to a diversity of habitats. It has become an invasive species in part of its introduced range. Wild boars probably originated in Southeast Asia during the Early Pleistocene and outcompeted other suid species as they spread throughout the Old World As of 1990, up to 16 subspecies are recognized, which are divided into four regional groupings based on skull height and lacrimal bone length. The species lives in matriarchal societies consisting of interrelated females and their young (both male and female). Fully grown males are usually solitary outside thePost: 28 September 20:08

Vector Optics Continental X6 5-30x56 Review I've spent the last few months putting the Vector Optics Continental X6 5-30x56 MBR FFP through its paces, mounted on my trusty rifle with the included one-piece Picatinny mount. I'm not going to sugarcoat anything, just giving you the straight dope from a hunter who actually uses his gear. Vector Optics Continental X6 5-30x56 - The Good: Crystal Clear Glass: Seriously, the glass is impressive for the price. Edge-to-edge clarity is excellent, and I was able to pick out details in low light situations better than I expected. This is a huge plus when you're trying to identify game at dawn or dusk. First Focal Plane (FFP) Reticle: This is a must-have for me. The MBR reticle is well-designed, not too cluttered, and allows for accurate holdovers at any magnification. I really appreciate how the reticle subtensions stay consistent, making long-range shots much more predictable. Solid Build Quality: The scope feels robust and well-made. The tuPost: 23 March 17:44
A young brown bear searches for food at low tide, looking for crabs or small fish under rocks. A bear walks along the shore eating crabs and barnacles at low tide and grasses in Glendale Cove, British Columbia, Canada. Brown bears are one of the most powerful land mammals. The bear's front paws, armed with powerful claws, are a universal tool with which the beast digs a den, digs up the holes of marmots and ground squirrels, turns over rocks that are too heavy for humans, breaks trees, and catches fish. Claws are excellent ground hooks. Thanks to them, bears can easily move along steep slopes, where it is difficult for a person to stay. Grizzly bears are one of the strongest land mammals, their strength is comparable to that of 3-5 humans. They can easily flip over large rocks in search of food. In the video, a young bear turns over a rock with one paw to find small fish and crustaceans hiding at low tide.Post: 14 January 17:51

THE GREATEST BOWHUNTER I EVER KNEW was born 121 years ago today. We shook hands for the first time in 1972 at the Pope and Young Club Convention and Awards Banquet in Denver, and our paths crossed frequently thereafter until his death in 1988. And like millions of other archers and bowhunters of that era, I was a big Fred Bear fan and longtime supporter of the legendary man in the Borsalino hat. Special personal memories include visits to the Bear Archery plant and Fred Bear Museum in Grayling, Michigan, before the company's production facility relocated to Florida; the annual Anderson Archery clinics and seminar stage we shared each June in front of large and appreciative crowds in Grand Ledge; and his final appearance at the P&Y gathering in Tulsa when we said our goodbyes one last time the year before his passing. Still, I'm eternally thankful that I could work with Pope and Young founder Glenn St. Charles, Papa Bear, and other club officers as Editor of the very first P&Y record Post: 7 March 18:35
Tying Up Creating a drop-shot rig is easy. A small finesse worm is usually used for finicky bass, but always choose long, slender plastics that are free of legs and pinchers that can twist your line. Drop-shotting favorites are traditionally modest, straight plastic worms and minnows; the softer, the better. Some companies are now using “super plastics,” which are incredibly buoyant and allow the lure to float up, rather than settle, on a drop-shot rig, and can help trigger more bites. Z-Man Fishing Products’ ElaZtech lures are a good example. You need to match those small baits with an equally small hook. In snag-free areas, simply nose-hooking the worm is most effective, so a light 1/0 hook is a good starting point. Most die-hard drop-shotters rely on the Gamakatsu split-shot / drop-shot hook. You can Texas-rig your plastics when fishing around brush or heavy cover but, again, stay with a fairly light hook. The VMC WM worm hook is a good one. In any case, always tie your hook wPost: 14 September 08:26
