Review of Vortex Viper PST 1-4x24 I recently purchased the Vortex Viper PST 1-4x24 scope for my AR platform and, overall, I have mixed feelings about it. Here’s a detailed breakdown of its pros and cons based on my experience. Pros: Optical Clarity: One of the standout features of the Vortex Viper PST is its exceptional optical clarity. The lenses are multi-coated, which helps to enhance light transmission and reduce glare. Whether I'm shooting at dawn or dusk, the sight picture remains bright and clear, which is crucial for hunting or tactical scenarios. Reticle Options: The scope offers a variety of reticle options, and I chose the VMR-2 (MRAD) reticle version. It’s well-designed for quick acquisition and accuracy, particularly at varying distances. The etched reticle is also illuminated, which provides added visibility in low-light conditions. Durability: The construction of the Viper PST is robust. It’s built to withstand harsh conditions, being both waterproof and shockproof.

Wolf charges Bear, then Bear charges the Wolf. I waited at a Bison carcass from 5am to 9pm for 3 days. Eagles and coyotes had been coming in trying to get a bite, while the Grizzly guarded the carcass, just as its mother taught it to. It would sleep on it and cover it with dirt, and when it seemingly left the scene….it would show back up when other animals tried to feed. On the 3rd morning a lone Wolf 1479 showed up from the Junction Butte pack. It had about 10 minutes to eat before the Grizzly came back. They had an initial stare down. The wolf stood on the carcass and then charged the bear. The bear initially retreated and then decided to charge the wolf. Of course the bear reclaimed the carcass. 5 Snow Goose Stops You’ve Never Tried Chasing spring snow geese is one of the fastest growing pursuits in hunting, and with good reason. The most obvious of its attractions are the tens of millions of birds that string out from Texas to the Canadian tundra and from the coast of California to the Eastern Shore. But as the spring migration has ballooned, so has the hunting competition. Meanwhile, it takes plenty of gear and cash to get into the game: e-callers, massive decoy rigs, pallets of ammunition and gasoline for finding fresh birds for the next day’s flight. You might wonder why we go to the trouble. But if you spend one day under twisting white flocks with 10 shotgun shells in an extension magazine before you run it to the plug again and again, you’ll understand. Arkansas, Missouri and South Dakota are the hotbeds for chasing the reverse migration, but a few places are still devoid of big crowds, no matter if you’re a do-it-yourself or pay-to-play hunter. Property Line Law and Ethics Legally, provided a hunter has secured permission from the neighboring landowner, he can hang one, five or 20 treestands across and near the line that separates your property. He can walk around or drive a UTV there as much as he wants. Heck, he can pop up a tent and make deer camp. Property law is simple: You stay on your side of the line, and I’ll stay on mine. But step a boot across the boundary line without permission, and that’s obviously trespassing. If you go over and tear down a treestand like my fuming buddy Steve suggested — and what many of you would want to do in a similar situation — you’ll pile on the misdemeanor of petty theft or destruction of property. Call a game warden? Please. A property line dispute between deer hunters is not as much a matter of law as it is a matter of ethics.

The 10 Best States for Snow Goose Hunting Every year, hunters shoot more light geese in these states than anywhere else Even if you didn’t know much about spring snow goose hunting, fields covered with white decoys and parking lots jammed with muddy trailers would reveal hotspots across the country. And for good reason: Depending on the weather and hatch, many areas typically produce year after year. Now and then, however, you hear about a spring destination that surprises you, and some might wonder where hunters actually kill the most light geese. A quick review of U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service harvest statistics provides some insight — and a few surprises. Disclaimer: These surveys are estimates and do not differentiate between spring, fall, and winter harvests, and they don’t take into account weather conditions or other factors that might influence success. We’ve compiled a four-season average — 2017-18 through 2020-21 — to get a general trend of recent hunter success. These numbe

Tennessee Moves to Later Turkey Season, 2-Bird Bag Limit, No Fanning on Public Land After extensive discussion and comment, the Tennessee Fish and Wildlife Commission approved big changes for next year's turkey hunters The Tennessee Fish & Wildlife Commission voted on a slew of big changes for the 2023 spring turkey season during a series of open meetings June 2 and 3, 2022. You can watch the full meetings here and here. So what do the changes look like? The first is actually a change to the trapping regulations, with a year-round trapping season now allowed for raccoons and opossums — critters that are considered among the worst nest predators of wild turkeys. The hunting season for those animals will remain as-is (July 1 to March 15), but the daily bag limit for both species will be doubled for hunters. As for turkeys, the Spring 2023 bag limit will be reduced from three birds to two, only one of which can be a jake. There was a lengthy discussion about stopping the harvest of jake

ATA Arms SP 12ga (710mm Barrel) Review Alright, here's an honest and hopefully helpful take on the ATA Arms SP 12 gauge with a 710mm barrel, from a perspective of someone who's spent some decent time in the field and at the range: Having put a fair few shells through the ATA Arms SP, I think I can offer a reasonably balanced review. Full disclosure: I'm not a sponsored shooter or anything like that, just a hunter who appreciates a decent tool. The Good: Value for Money: This is where the ATA Arms SP really shines.
