These days there are very few new products that I would actually call a “game changer.” Many are truthfully nothing more than a twist on an old idea or a slight improvement over something already available. When I first saw the new Primos Double Bull SurroundView hunting blinds at the January trade shows, I instantly said to myself, “game changer.” When I was able to hunt Axis deer in south Texas from one with a rifle in June, my opinion didn’t change. Since then I’ve had one at home and have been playing with it a lot in anticipation of some summer bow hunts. All I can say is, it’s something else. If you’re familiar with Double Bull pop-up blinds, then you need no convincing of their ruggedness and an interior configuration that's design is one that's well thought-out by hunters. My only beef with Double Bull blinds over the years is that, while their hub-and-pole system makes them solid as a rock once erected, putting up and taking the blinds down can be a bit of a challenge until

How To Take Better Hunting Photos You’ve just shot a big-game animal. The adrenaline is pumping; you and your buddies are stoked, and then the reality sets in that the work is now upon you to butcher and pack-out the caribou, moose, bear, sheep, deer, goat, elk, bison or musk ox. In the haste to get started butchering, you snap off a few photos, trying to capture the animal and moment, but without forethought, the photos rarely end up capturing the elation and satisfaction of the hunt or the image of the quarry. To prevent that bad news from hitting you when you get home from your next trip and start scrolling through your images to pique the memory, here are some thoughts on how to maximize your photos of the hunt. Fill most of the frame with the hunter and animal Take photos that fill the entire frame with hunter and animal. Have the hunter change positions in relation to the animal. Top 5 Hunting Towns in America Have You Ever Hunted in These Towns? Man, you hate to rank stuff sometimes. Case in point, college football. What makes one team better than another, anyway — TV time, a difficult schedule, wins and losses? Rankings and choices concerning numero uno lend themselves to loopholes, weak arguments and plenty of opinions. So what exactly qualifies a town as one of the BEST hunting towns in America? To find out, I polled hunters who find themselves in the woods for work and play … biologists, editors and industry folks, and here’s what they said: Every great hunting town needs a variety of game. It has to have cafés, hole-in-the wall restaurants, inexpensive hotels, meat processors, and a game and fish office nearby doesn’t hurt, either. Tons of public hunting land within an hour’s drive. Interesting stuff to see if you tag out early or just get tired of hunting. Albuquerque, New Mexico New Mexico’s scattered peaks are notorious for growing monster bulls. A r

TIGRAY Region, Ethiopia: Hunting Seasons, Features, Licenses and Current Regulations, Recommendations for Choosing Time and Location Hunting Seasons in Tigray, Key Periods and Influencing Factors In the Tigray region, hunting seasons are determined by local natural conditions and Ethiopia's national legislation. The main hunting season traditionally runs from April to June and from September to November. These periods are considered most suitable due to moderate weather and animal activity. Regulation is managed by the Ministry of Forestry and Wildlife, which reviews the calendar annually based on environmental data. The region's climate — mountainous and semi-arid — significantly affects animal and bird behavior. During hot months, animals retreat to cooler areas, while during rainy seasons, access to certain areas becomes limited. Terrain also plays a role — many cliffs and canyons make some territories inaccessible at certain times of year. Compared to neighboring regions like A

Choose the Best Knife for Deer Hunting Should you go with a fixed-blade or a folder? A lifelong deer hunter weighs in with his preferences You can gut and skin a buck with a penknife or a Bowie or any blade in between, but to do the job right, select a tool designed with the deer hunter in mind. Fixed Blade with Gut-Hook If you haven’t tried a fixed-blade knife with a gut-hook, you should. Roll a buck onto his back and use the knife point to make a small incision in the white hair and abdominal wall of the lower belly. Turn the knife over, insert the sharp hook into the slit and zipper the animal open up to the sternum. With a hook, there’s no exposed steel tip to pierce a deer’s paunch and make a mess, or clip your finger. These days it’s vital that you stay knick-free. A Michigan hunter recently was infected with bovine tuberculosis after he sliced his hand while dressing a buck, and there are other deer diseases out there. Be careful and wear rubber gloves. In Kazakhstan, you can hunt ibex in different places. To combine hunting with maral and roe deer, we choose the Dzungarian Alatau region. All this at the beginning of the season. For those looking only for ibex or ibex with exceptional trophy qualities, we recommend the region on the border with 🇰🇬 Kyrgyzstan - Granitogorsk - and hunting in a colder period - October-December. ⛰ The mountains simply go into the sky and only perseverance and a reliable team of guides help. We had a whole day's trek. From dawn to dusk, including an ascent of 4000 m. Almost the entire way on foot. But depending on the weather and other conditions, horses are also used. Minus 5.5 thousand calories per day, 25-28 km of travel. And the inclusion of the final 💪 moral and volitional on the descent. The ibex is bagged, happy with the trophy, but most of all ➡️ proud and pleased with himself! Such overcomings are remembered for a lifetime. Unlocking the Best Hunting Seasons in Gaza, Mozambique: Timings, Licenses, and Trophy Opportunities General Hunting Rules and Timings in Gaza In Gaza Province, Mozambique, hunting seasons are strictly regulated to balance wildlife conservation and sustainable hunting. The primary hunting period typically runs from April to November, avoiding the rainy season (December-March) when animals breed and vegetation thickens. The government sets dates annually, adjusting for ecological factors like drought or population recovery. Gaza’s dry savannahs and floodplains favor game like buffalo and impala, with seasons differing from wetter neighboring provinces (e.g., Inhambane). Recent reforms tightened anti-poaching laws, shortening some seasons for endangered species. If you are looking for a versatile, hardy, and manageable hunting companion, it's time to consider this breed. What Does a Border Terrier Hunt? Don't let their size fool you. This inherent drive translates into a surprisingly versatile hunter: Fox: This remains their forte. They are relentless at the den and possess the grit to stay at it. Badger: Similar to fox, they will readily go to ground after badger. Rats and Vermin: An absolute terror to rodent populations. Excellent for farm and estate work. The 5 Best Thermal Monoculars of 2024 Everybody wants to know what goes bump in the night, even if it doesn’t bump and even if it’s not nighttime. Happily, thermal monoculars, a new and energetic category of gear, often identify what used to be invisible. They can help you see everything from human intruders on the other side of a fence, to coyotes and raccoons crouching in the dark, to a problematic wire in a household electrical outlet. We’re talking about monoculars, rangefinders, and cameras that use temperature variations, rather than visible light, to form images that can be captured as photographs or videos, or simply delivered to your eye to answer that ancient question: what’s out there? I’ve used this new class of “optics” over the past year to find newborn calves in a deadly blizzard, to find my ice-fishing buddies in the fog, to detect hidden electrical problems that might burn my house down, to hunt coyotes at midnight, and to finally even the odds on crop-raiding feral

Judge Issues Injunction Blocking Wisconsin Fall Wolf Hunt A judge on Friday (10/22/2021) halted Wisconsin's fall wolf season two weeks before hunters were set to take to the woods, siding with wildlife advocacy groups who argued holding the hunt would be unconstitutional. Dane County Circuit Judge Jacob Frost issued a temporary injunction halting the season, which was set to begin November 6. The order comes as part of a lawsuit that a coalition of wildlife advocacy groups filed in August seeking to stop the hunt and invalidate a state law authorizing annual seasons. Among other things, the coalition argued that the season is illegal because the (Wisconsin) Department of Natural Resources hasn't updated its regulations setting season parameters, and has been relying on an emergency rule put in place shortly after then-Gov. Scott Walker signed a law in 2012 authorizing annual seasons and a wolf-management plan that hasn't been updated since 2007. Frost said the law creating the wolf

It’s never too early to start planning for next year’s big trips. National Geographic is getting an early start, too, releasing its Best of the World list in late October with 25 must-see destinations for 2023. Respect – for the people and their cultures, for the land and its conservation – is an overarching theme of the list, which is divided into five official categories. The hope is that 2023 will be not just a big return to travel but also to rediscovering wonder, said Amy Alipio, senior editor for National Geographic Travel. “Because when you are awed by something, you treat it with respect. And that spirit is something we want to encourage with this list,” Alipio said. The list focuses on destinations that have community-led conservation efforts, healing and heritage journeys and ways for travelers to give back as well as places that are doing important work in ecotourism, sustainability and inclusive travel.
