Finally, conservationists have created a whale wash to clean skin parasites from whales! Well... of course you realized that it's all a hat)) No one created a whale wash, it's all fun with a neural network. But what kind of parasites can be found on whales? A lot of people, actually. For example, whale lice. Whale lice are crustaceans from the order bokoplavov. They live on the skin of cetaceans (especially in the area of the anal and genital openings) and feed on their tissues — with severe infection, this leads to the formation of ulcers reaching the layer of subcutaneous fat. In warm waters, mixins and leeches cling to whales. To get a better grip, the mixin is even tied in a knot. Voracious leeches are capable of swallowing meat 8 times their own weight in 7 hours. Balanus can also be found on whales. These are barnacles, but they do not eat their host, but use it as a means of transportation. An adult balanus sits in a lime shell that is firmly attached to something. The p

Later history The Franks and other Teutonic peoples were fond of falconry and the chase, and in later centuries both the laity and the clergy were warned by provincial councils against spending so much time and money on hounds, hawks, and falcons. Originally, among the northern nations all could hunt except slaves, who were forbidden to bear arms. The idea of game preservation arose in feudal times when the right to hunt became attached to the ownership of land. Because of their hereditary claim to the title Lord High Masters of the Chase for the Holy Roman Empire, the electors of Saxony enjoyed exceptional opportunities to hunt. Elector John George II of Saxony (reigned 1656–80) shot an astonishing total of 42,649 red deer. He refused the crown of Bohemia not for political reasons but because Bohemian stags were smaller than Saxon ones. To protect his stags, he fenced the boundary between Saxony and Bohemia. An early landgrave of Hesse had a codicil added to the Lord’s Prayer: “Give u

Lever-action rifles may seem antiquated, but for some folks, they offer a great combination of hunting aptitude and self-defense effectiveness. The X Model from Henry takes their proven action and adds a bit of a tactical flair with synthetic furniture, a short rail at the end of the fore-end, and a threaded muzzle. Muzzle brakes or a suppressor can be easily added, and even for a camp rifle, being able to easily attach a light is a well-thought-out attribute. It’s a short, handy rifle that can be operated quickly and maneuvered well in tight spaces and cycled very quickly. Your caliber selection will depend on your needs. If you’re dealing with lots of bears as well as two-legged threats, the .45-70 will be the way to go. Otherwise, the .357 or .44 mag options offer plenty of power for hunting deer, and offer increased magazine capacity. Not to mention that the increased barrel length will give you better performance than a handgun will, with mild to little recoil. MSRP: $970

7 Reasons Why OTC Elk Tags Beat Draw Tags If you want to spend more time in the elk woods and have more chances to succeed, then over-the-counter elk tags are the way to go At least four different bulls bugled practically nonstop all morning long as I flanked a herd swarmed by satellite bulls. One beautiful 6x6 with a lovesick bugle grew attached to my cow calling around midmorning, but when he got to 60 yards — no shot opportunity — and didn’t see a cow, his interest fizzled. He rejoined the ensemble of bugling bulls. I continued chasing bugles, and at around noon, I came eye to eye with a massive old 6x6 at 14 yards. A well-placed arrow into the front of his chest quickly took effect, and my first bull ever was down within 100 yards. That hunt wasn’t guided, or in a unit that took me years to draw. It was instead on an over-the-counter tag on U.S. Forest Service lands. We’re often told that OTC hunting looks nothing like the hunts seen on outdoor television. While the hunt I had isn’

The Right Way to Clean and Store Your Hunting Rifle Properly caring for your deer gun’s barrel and action ensures it’ll be ready to go again next fall Deer season is over, and now is the perfect time to give your rifle a thorough annual cleaning. Store your gun in a secure and rust-free environment and it will be in good working order when you break it out for a range session in a few months. Gun-Cleaning Gear To do the job right, you need to secure your rifle horizontally in a vise. A vise attached to a workbench at your house will work fine. Or you can purchase a portable gun vise from a company that specializes in firearms-cleaning accessories. Spend $40 or more for a universal gun-cleaning kit, which will include a three-piece bore rod and an assortment of jags, brushes, patches, and other accessories for cleaning not only your bolt-action, but also other handguns and long guns that you own. Also, and this is important, purchase a bore guide, which will protect the bore and action

Find a Deadhead Buck? Keep it Legal To you thousands of COVID-19 newbies that have joined our ranks to hunt deer in the fall and shed antlers in the spring, here is something you’ll find interesting. A “deadhead” is the commonly used term for a buck deer carcass that you might stumble across in the woods, with antlers still attached to the skull. Generally, such a buck has been dead for several months or even a year or two, and the carcass has been ravaged by time, weather, and predators. All that might remain are a grisly skull with antlers, a portion of the spine, and maybe some rib bones wrapped tautly with pieces of hide as black as used motor oil. If the skull has been lying on the ground for more than a few months, you might see teeth marks on the antlers where squirrels and mice have gnawed them. Rodents are attracted to the minerals in antlers, and they also chew them to wear down their ever-growing teeth. The longer a deadhead rots on the ground, the more squirrels will carve

Algeria lifts 25 year long ban on hunting The Algerian government has announced it is lifting the ban on hunting imposed more than 25 years ago because of an Islamist insurgency that was raging at the time, this is according to a report by the BBC. The ban is said to have led to a surge in the population of boars, causing a big nuisance in rural areas where they damaged agricultural land. Authorized hunting will now be able to take place for the next six months, Agriculture Minister Abdelhamid Hamdani was quoted by the Algerian press agency as saying. In the early 1990s, the authorities decided to confiscate hunting guns and ban hunting after armed insurgents started to steal the weapons and use them in their attacks. The ban on hunting other animals and birds has also been lifted.

Baboons VS Leopard Kruger National Park visitors witnessed an incredible incident that occurred near a popular picnic spot in the park. In South Africa, a large family of baboons attacked a leopard that decided to grab one of them as prey. The video shows the predator (leopard) walking along the road and then abruptly running up to the unsuspecting baboons. However, one of them, the largest, rushes in response to help his relatives. Due to their numerical advantage and lightning-fast response, the baboons managed to drive away the predatory leopard. Among the "audience" were newlyweds Merv Mersinligil and Victor Shontag, who told the press about what they saw. Merv remembers: "I jokingly told my husband: "Maybe we should warn the baboons about the leopard we just saw. And he laughed." But a moment later, the leopard was ready to spring! The baboon is widespread in Central and Eastern Africa. It lives in steppe and mountainous areas. It feeds on plant (fruits, bulbs, etc.) and anima

Amur Tiger in Russia The number of Amur tigers in the East of Russia has increased significantly since the protection program was launched 15 years ago. And apparently the tiger protection program is bearing fruit. There are really a lot of tigers in the Amur region and Primorsky Krai, and it is necessary to regulate their number. Currently, residents of Primorsky Krai have asked local governments and Russian President Vladimir Putin to clarify the situation around the dangerous Amur tiger, which is beginning to pose a threat to the inhabitants of the entire Far East. Residents say that they need protection from breeding and daring animals, which no one can offer them. Animals, which have long been more than 700 people, are increasingly acting boldly and attacking dogs and cows. There were also cases of attacks on people. In addition to the letter, the president and governor also received video messages from residents confirming their willingness to go all the way until the situat

Theodore Roosevelt. From hunter to United States president. Theodore Roosevelt was born in 1858. Teddy, as his friends called him, was a frail child, prone to illness, asthma attacks, and physical weakness. Yet, despite his poor health, he was a passionate lover of wildlife. Inspired by the works of James Audubon, William Bartram, and Alexander Wilson, as well as the adventure novels of Mayne Reid about boy hunters and the writings of Frank Forester, as a teenager Theodore became deeply interested in naturalism and decided to dedicate himself to taxidermy. This, of course, did little to help his asthma, so his father insisted he take up outdoor sports. The choice was obvious: Teddy chose hunting. His passion for hunting was remarkable. He took pride in shooting large numbers of birds and other wildlife, collecting impressive trophies—some of which he, as a naturalist, referred to as "specimens." But for Roosevelt, hunting wild animals and collecting their hides and horns was always a

Austrian regions allow controversial wolf hunting Vienna (AFP) – Several regions of Austria have allowed the controversial killing of wolves after reporting an increase in livestock attacks, sparking debate in the Alpine EU member. The World Wildlife Fund (WWF) says the orders to kill the wolves violate European law, which lists them as protected animals. In the southern province of Carinthia, five wolves have been killed so far this year under legislation introduced in January. The killing of eight more has been authorised, according to authorities. Neighbouring Tyrol, known for cattle grazing freely on mountain pastures, has authorised the killing of six wolves -- yet to be carried out -- under a decree from February, according to province spokesman Maximilian Brandhuber. "Time and again wolves are sighted near settlements and kill livestock," he told AFP this week, adding that evidence of their presence has "risen sharply since 2019." After disappearing in the 19th century, th

STUDY: BEING CLOSE TO NATURE REDUCES THE RISK OF STROKE AN EVER-GROWING LIST of health benefits has been linked to access to nature and green spaces. Among those listed in a report from the World Health Organization are better sleep, improved immune system health, better mental health, fewer heart attacks, and even better pregnancy outcomes. Now, a new study found that people who live within 300 meters of a forest, farm, or city park were 16 percent less likely to experience the most common type of stroke. Published in the journal Environment International, the study uses data from more than 3 million Spaniards and claims to be the largest of its kind from Europe to measure the association between air quality and stroke. The researchers also found that the risk for stroke increased steadily with their levels of exposure to common kinds of air pollution. SCIENCE IN ACTION — The researchers accessed anonymized data from the public health service of Catalonia, which covers nearly ever

Hank the Tank evades capture again! The 500-pound black bear dubbed “Hank the Tank” is still on the lam after breaking into two more California homes. To date, Hank has caused “extensive damage” to 33 properties and broken into about 28 homes in a Lake Tahoe neighborhood over the past few months, according to CNN. The latest break-in occurred on February 18. The South Lake Tahoe Police Department reported that the bear didn’t go into a garage after trash, but instead physically broke through a window into the home before managing to get out. And while the massive black bear hasn’t attacked any humans or pets, worried residents have been flooding police lines with over 100 individual reports since the black bear began its tirade on the Lake Tahoe neighborhood last spring. “The incidents primarily occurred during the summer and fall of 2021, when the bear was in hyperphagia, adding calories to survive the winter,” says California Department of Fish and Wildlife (CDFW) spokesperson P

Josh was famously canceled by the woke anti-hunting mob for his spear hunt of a brown bear and lost his Under Armour sponsorship. Sarah has reportedly killed the largest ever crocodile with a bow. While the video and official measurements are not out yet, here are the pictures. The largest Crocodile ever caught and placed in captivity is just over 20 feet long. unofficial rumors have this crock close to 18 feet! Lyme disease: Final trial ends 20-year wait for a vaccine against the tick-borne disease How does the Lyme vaccine work? It targets an "outer surface protein" of the Lyme bacterium called OspA that’s present in the tick’s gut. It’s estimated a tick must feed on someone for about 36 hours before the bacteria spreads to its victim. That delay gives time for antibodies the tick ingests from a vaccinated person’s blood to attack the germs right at the source. In small, early-stage studies, Pfizer and Valneva reported no safety problems and a good immune response. The newest study will test if the vaccine, called VLA15, really protects and is safe. The companies aim to recruit at least 6,000 people in Lyme-prone areas including the northeast US plus Finland, Germany, the Netherlands, Poland, and Sweden.

The Best hares hunter in Canada. Lynx is considered to be the very orderly in Canada who brings the number of hares in the region back to normal. No, if a black-tailed deer, duck or mole comes across on the route, the Canadian lynx will definitely challenge them. But from 30 to 97% of the lynx's usual diet consists of hares. Hunting of the Canadian lynx for hares has become a kind of salvation for the locals. Those who have not experienced the rapid uncontrolled spread of hares or rabbits will not understand the essence of the problem. Here it is worth remembering the problem of rabbits in Australia, for example. Where there is no suitable predator, there is a catostrophic increase in the number of rodents and they simply destroy the nature around. Due to the poor diet, the Canadian lynx had to hone its hunting skills to perfection. If a lynx attacks, it means it clearly knows that it will have lunch. If the lynx is not absolutely sure of the result, it will not even attempt a throw

The Champawat tigress is a man-eating animal that killed 436 people! Photo: 1911 Nepal, Jim Corbett. In the early 1900s, the Nepalese region close to the Himalayas was terrorized by the most famous and bloodthirsty man-eating animal. Men, women, and children disappeared into the jungle. The attacks were so frequent and violent that the locals started talking about demons and punishments from the gods. But the Bengal tigress was the culprit! Champawat tigress was forced to hunt humans, but I'll tell you about that later. After people found out that people were disappearing because of the tigress. People started hunting for her, all attempts were in vain. The number of people killed has reached 200! I had to turn to the army. Hundreds of people with guns combed the region in search of her. Fleeing from them, the Champawat Tigress crossed the border with India and stopped in the Kumaon region. Settled in the forests of India, Champawat Tigress went back to her old ways. People began t

The sound of gunshot will have been echoing across the moorlands on the "Glorious Twelfth" – the start of the annual grouse shooting season on August 12 and lasting through to December 10. Managing the "Glorious Twelfth" originated in 1773 when a shooting law was introduced to restrict when one could and could not hunt or even buy game. The biggest growth in grouse hunting came about during WWII and through the 1950s. With food supplies cut off because of attacks on shipping, the UK's food imports dropped from pre-war fifty-five million tons to barely twelve million tons by the end of 1939, barely enough to feed the nation. Even today in the 21st century, shot birds often end up in restaurants, butchers' shelves, and supermarkets. So, what impact and benefits does grouse shooting have on today's economy and where do the royals fit in? For the protection of the land, shooting provides essential income for the Moorlands Association. It is responsible for over 1,500 jobs in the heart

Wolves are back in Belgium and their growing presence is creating tensions with farmers, who fear for the safety of their livestock. They want to reopen the debate on wolf hunting in Europe, which forbids it under both the EU's Habitats Directive and the Bern Convention on the Conservation of European Wildlife and Natural Habitat. Euronews spoke to Ludwig Heinen, a dairy farmer with 320 cows, who said that there are currently three packs of wolves near his farm in the High Fens mountains. Despite none of his animals so far not being attacked, he is still worried. Fox Hunting in Britain Fox hunting has been occurring in different guises worldwide for hundreds of years. Indeed the practise of using dogs with a keen sense of smell to track prey has been traced back to ancient Egypt and many Greek and Roman influenced countries. However it is believed that the custom for a fox to be tracked, chased and often killed by trained hunting hounds (generally those with the keenest sense of smell known as ‘scent hounds’) and followed by the Master of the Foxhounds and his team on foot and horseback, originated from a Norfolk farmer’s attempt to catch a fox using farm dogs in 1534. Whilst foxes were widely regarded as vermin and farmers and other landowners had hunted the animals for many years as a form of pest control (both to curb their attacks on farm animals and for their highly prized fur) it wasn’t until the eighteenth century that fox hunting developed into it’s most modern incarnation and was considered a sport in its own right as a result of the

How can a young lady protect you in case of a polar bear attack? The photos shows KLM flight attendant Joanna Van Duffelen, with a Fairchild Armalite AR–10 combat rifle, dressed in Arctic clothing. Photo 1959. The work of flight attendants and stewards begins long before the departure of the aircraft and does not end immediately after landing. The main thing in this job is not food and drinks, but the safety of passengers in any critical situation. In 1958, KLM launched transarctic flights from Amsterdam to Tokyo with refueling in Anchorage. It was the era of motor aircraft at the dawn of mass passenger aviation. The company paid special attention to the risk of an emergency landing in the Arctic. Each plane carried a set of survival equipment. As you can see, KLM Dutch Airlines flight attendant Joanna is ready for the rigors of life in the Arctic. Ms. Van Duffelen is wearing Arctic survival gear aboard every KLM plane flying the polar route from Amsterdam to Tokyo. The set cons

An unusual hunt. Best regards to all!I don't know if you're interested in it, but it's a true story, happened in Poland, Lithuania and Belarus. Sincerely. "This is a historical novel, based on a true story that happened during the First World War, on the Eastern Front, in the winter of 1916-17 and which was disclosed and followed by newspapers such as the New York Times. A pack of wolves made up of hundreds of specimens, due to the destruction of the conflict, began to attack and devour not only civilians but also Russian, German and Austro-Hungarian soldiers isolated or in small groups, penetrating even the trenches at night. The belligerent armies were forced to enter into a local truce and form mixed patrols to track down and exterminate the pack. They succeeded but only after several months. A true but little-known story on which this exceptionally thorough and detailed historical novel, unique internationally, was based". In the photo, German reservist with wolf killed in trench,

Wisconsin deer hunt's underwhelming opening weekend blamed on warm weather, lack of snow Over 11,000 fewer deer killed in WI this year compared to 2022 A lack of snow and warm temperatures that suppressed deer movement led to a lackluster opening weekend of Wisconsin's nine-day gun season, with hunters killing thousands fewer deer than last year. The state Department of Natural Resources released preliminary data Tuesday that showed hunters registered 92,050 deer compared with 103,623 deer last year. That's a 16% drop-off from 2022 and 10% fewer deer than the five-year average for opening weekend. Hunters also registered 51,870 bucks, down 13% from 56,638 over opening weekend in 2022. The number of potential hunters didn't vary much from last year, however. The DNR reported that sales of all deer licenses stood at 774,369 as of midnight Sunday, with 421,525 of those licenses exclusively for gun use. Overall, sales of all deer licenses were down 0.61% from the same time last year. W

Russian hunter and a red deer. Hand-to-hand combat… Many so-called animal defenders, after watching this video, would start to panic. "A bloodthirsty hunter mocks and torments a kind deer." But only hunters and real experts in the field of fauna will be able to really understand what is happening on the video: None of the 3 hunters present are trying to shoot the deer. One hunter is trying to defend himself, and the hunter in white wants to scare the deer. The third one films the fight between a deer and a hunter on video and is very amused by what is happening. It is obvious that the deer is in the rut, it has a mating season. At this time, they are very aggressive and, under the influence of hormones, attack everything they see. And the hunters, apparently, do not have the appropriate license to kill deer, and they do not want to break the law, they are just trying to protect themselves. During the rut period, which is the mating season for deer, male deer (bucks) can become high
