I shot this button buck Saturday night while sitting at the base of a giant oak tree. Three does came out of the cedars earlier that evening, but they were about 155 yards away and moving at a pretty good clip. Then this young deer came out, and when he finally moved out from behind a couple trees in front of me, he stopped quartering toward me and gave me a shot at about 75 yards. I don’t prefer to hunt with a muzzleloader, but the December season seems to be about the only time I get the opportunity to hunt deer. The shot rang and after a moment of blindness, the smoke cleared. I saw the deer bolt about 50 yards to my right. I thought I’d missed him, but as he approached a couple lone cedar trees in the open, he made a sharp, confused U-turn, and then crashed down into the dry creek bed to the north. I almost expected him to get up and continue running over the hill, or slip away down the dry bed. Trembling, I reloaded my gun. My buddies and I had been on plenty of trips together before but never to Texas! Between the four of us and gear for six (two of our team opted to fly from New York to San Antonio), every single spare inch of space in the truck had been utilized. With each of us taking turns driving, we made it to Texas in about 20 hours. We got dinner and hotel rooms in Texarkana, and were back on the road early the next morning. With a day to spare before we were due at our hunting camp in Hondo, Texas, we headed south with plans to enjoy the city of San Antonio along the way. In San Antonio, we explored the Alamo, the River Walk and the Buckhorn Saloon and Texas Ranger Museum. What a great city! 🌿Wendigo🌿 This piece was a custom commission requested by a client. A wendigo is a mythical creature that lurks in the forest preying on victims to turn cannibalistic. I portrayed a softer version using a whitetail deer mount, whitetail deer skull, faux moss and foliage, faux Venus Fly traps, and real preserved Emperor Scorpions. What do modern European hunters wear and what hunting techniques are popular? Rule of thumb is: if you're invited and your party consists of more than 2, leave camo at home or in moderation (ie. only a cap or a mask). While loden and waxed cotton remains popular, modern hunting clothing is made to be comfortable, quiet, sturdy, warm and prefferably tick-proof. As for hunting techniques. -Hunting from a blind is the preferred method. Either low near the ground for birds or in a treestand or elevated blind for larger game. -Driven hunt is a popular second. Takes more people, is more expensive, but very spectacular. The driven hunt comes in many varieties, and is subject to many rules, traditions and rituals which vary by region. -Walking flushing hunt is popular in the wide open agricultural areas as well. Crushed the KITTY’S!!Had repeat clients Wayne and Tiffany and there daughter in the boat for a half day of catfishing. It was for there daughters birthday and they put the whooping on them. Started off where I had been catching them the last two days but water came way up and shad and catfish were gone🤦🏻. So made a move and on second move didn’t have the third pole out and 2 poles had fish on them. Fish were flying over the side. The shallow water bite is awesome and aggressive right now. A day 3 years in the making. My Wyoming Elk guide, Taytin, and his lovely wife, Lilly, came to visit us this week, and yesterday was epic. This was their first trip east of the Mississippi River. We started the day turkey hunting an Osceola Longbeard, checked out the Largest Live Oak tree in FL, got an 8ft gator (the 1st one they ever laid eyes on), and finished the day in the FL grass flats of the big bend. We caught 6 keeper trout and a flounder for a fish fry with some gator tail appetizers. It was -5 degrees at their house yesterday...they don't want to leave.Post: 10 April 17:51

Here are some tips to prevent you from being shot or accidentally shooting someone else. • No. 1 rule, always completely and positively identify your target before you pull the trigger. All turkey hunters know to make the best kill shot, you must aim for the head of a gobbler. Shooting the body of a gobbler may only wound it. Never shoot at movement. • Since the colors of a gobbler’s head are red, white and blue, never wear those colors in the woods.
