Данная пестрая малышка обладает раскраской перьев, напоминающих охотничий камуфляж. Причем летает она по самым замысловатым траекториям. Из-за этого подстрелить птицу под силу лишь крайне умелому стрелку, образцово владеющему оружием. А вследствие того, что бекас на английском звучит как snipe, вовсе не удивительно, что наиболее умелых стрелков стали называть снайперами.

В итоге на охотничьем участке каждого хищника формируются «очаги садоводства», где растения растут пышнее, удобряемые остатками кошачьих пиршеств. Так как травоядные животные предпочитают корма, богатые питательными веществами (в частности, азотом), они ищут такие «очаги», чтобы прокормиться, — и пумы этим пользуются.
