Judge Issues Injunction Blocking Wisconsin Fall Wolf Hunt A judge on Friday (10/22/2021) halted Wisconsin's fall wolf season two weeks before hunters were set to take to the woods, siding with wildlife advocacy groups who argued holding the hunt would be unconstitutional. Dane County Circuit Judge Jacob Frost issued a temporary injunction halting the season, which was set to begin November 6. The order comes as part of a lawsuit that a coalition of wildlife advocacy groups filed in August seeking to stop the hunt and invalidate a state law authorizing annual seasons. Among other things, the coalition argued that the season is illegal because the (Wisconsin) Department of Natural Resources hasn't updated its regulations setting season parameters, and has been relying on an emergency rule put in place shortly after then-Gov. Scott Walker signed a law in 2012 authorizing annual seasons and a wolf-management plan that hasn't been updated since 2007. Frost said the law creating the wolf

Tips for Camouflage in Hunting: Choosing the Right Camouflage, Blending In, and Minimizing Noise Effective #camouflage is key to a successful #hunt, as blending into the environment lets hunters approach their target undetected. Here are some tips on choosing the right #camouflage_gear, staying hidden in the forest or open areas, and minimizing noise. Camouflage: How to Choose the Right One The choice of camouflage depends on the terrain, season, and time of day. In the forest, green and brown tones help blend in with trees and foliage, while in winter conditions, a white-grey camouflage works best on snowy terrain. For hunting in open plains, beige and brown colors are better, blending in with grass and dry landscapes. Seasonal #hunting_camouflage also varies: summer clothing is lightweight and breathable, while winter gear is warm and can come with snow covers. Blending in on Different Terrains Beyond camouflage, choose #hunting_gear that doesn’t stand out in the environment. Hats

These days there are very few new products that I would actually call a “game changer.” Many are truthfully nothing more than a twist on an old idea or a slight improvement over something already available. When I first saw the new Primos Double Bull SurroundView hunting blinds at the January trade shows, I instantly said to myself, “game changer.” When I was able to hunt Axis deer in south Texas from one with a rifle in June, my opinion didn’t change. Since then I’ve had one at home and have been playing with it a lot in anticipation of some summer bow hunts. All I can say is, it’s something else. If you’re familiar with Double Bull pop-up blinds, then you need no convincing of their ruggedness and an interior configuration that's design is one that's well thought-out by hunters. My only beef with Double Bull blinds over the years is that, while their hub-and-pole system makes them solid as a rock once erected, putting up and taking the blinds down can be a bit of a challenge until

Prishvin Russian writer and hunter. Mikhail Mikhailovich Prishvin (1873-1954) was an outstanding Russian and Soviet writer, novelist and publicist, correspondent, traveler, photographer, local historian, teacher. But perhaps the most famous aspect of Mikhail Prishvin's life and work is his passion for hunting. Hunting is not simple, but filled with the deepest love and respect for nature. Prishvin considered hunting not only a simple means of subsistence, but also a way of communicating with nature and understanding its ways. He used his experience as a hunter in his works, enriching them, enlivening the world of nature for readers. During the hunt, Prishvin often took photographs and notes. These drafts then endowed the landscapes of his stories with living force and almost physically tangible properties, as if the reader himself found himself in these places, they were so authentic. Prishvin was a hunter, but he did not hunt just for the excitement, all his hunting was in moderati

Living in Alaska, another part of our efforts to be self-sufficient is living off the land as much as possible. “Filling your freezer” is a common phrase here, and there are a lot of ways to do it. Many of you know there are still a lot of places in the U.S. where we can still do this. We’re blessed to be able to fish in rivers, lakes and the ocean, and hunt for a variety of wild game. We do have a little advantage up here for that, (but we also pay a bit of a price for it). Besides fishing and hunting, there a lot of foraging opportunities as well, mostly in the summer, but some when it’s cold and dark too. Hunting and fishing is huge up here, and a lot of folks live here just for that. There are lots more things you can do besides these examples. What are some of the things you all hunt, fish, and forage for?

D I N O S A U R I am still in shock. This hunt was exceptionally meaningful to me and Dinosaur truly is a bull of a lifetime!! We were nearly 26 miles into the backcountry with the pack string. We had spent a lot of time behind the glass learning all of the bulls in the area. The old bull we had nicknamed Dinosaur, was one that stood out for his age, distinct bugle and incredible mass. He was an old warrior. The thought that I would be placing my hands on Dinosaur as my personal bull never crossed my mind. I would have been happy with any legal bull I was given the opportunity on. I was surrounded by some of my favorite people in the entire world and this hunt/bull/opportunity would have never been possible without them. Huge thank you to Josh and Laci Martolgio. As with any hunt, there were a lot of highs and lows. The story is one for the books and too long to share on here. I’ll try to get it written to share with you all at some point. But at the end of it all, this true

Farewell to My Beloved Gitane – 13 Incredible Years Au revoir ma belle Gitane, my first draht, and a dog with an exceptional passion. For 13 years, you showed an incredible spirit and strength. Whether pulling a wild boar from a thicket or catching it minutes later in a pond in the middle of the plains, your power and persistence never failed. In the same day, you'd point out woodcocks, and I might have missed them, but you were always spot on. You've endured so much, with countless staples because nothing could stop your sheer will. You've also left behind a legacy, producing amazing dogs with Clint du Moulin de Berlemont: Jasper, Lacoste, Laïka, Lisière, N'Gumper, Nestor, and Oural. You were so full of trust, even staying loose in the back of the pickup truck on the highway, heading to Aisne for breeding. You truly earned your honors, my old Gitane. Your legacy lives on in every hunt, every memory, and every pup you've brought into this world. #DrahtHaar #HuntingDogs #FarewellToA

How to Plan Your First Antelope Hunt Pronghorns are the gateway species for Western big-game hunters, and there’s a long season full of opportunity. Here’s when to go I wouldn’t go so far as to say a dead antelope buck smells good, but I don’t mind their odor a bit. There’s a hint of petting zoo goat — not necessarily repulsive in itself — mixed with dry Western air and sage and musk. All combined, somehow, the smell is sweet, and for me it always triggers good memories of hunting adventures far from home. Just about every Easterner ever to buy a deer tag has at some point dreamed of hunting out West. I talk to eager prospects every year, and many of them want to come out swinging, with designs on an elk hunt in the mountains. I love elk hunting, especially in September. But I always temper any encouragement I give with this reality: If you’re not going guided, you’re probably not going to kill an elk. Not your first year. If you’re prepared to pony up for a guided elk hunt, go
