Hunting in Bushenyi: Uganda's Verdant Hunting Ground Where Tradition Meets Conservation The mist hangs low over Bushenyi's rolling hills in the early morning, clinging to the dense forests and tea plantations that blanket this fertile region. Somewhere in the damp undergrowth, a bushbuck freezes at the sound of a snapping twig, its ears twitching as it scans the shadows. This is hunting in Bushenyi – a subtle, intimate dance between hunter and prey played out in landscapes so lush they seem to breathe. Unlike the open savannas of northern Uganda, hunting here requires patience, stealth, and an intimate knowledge of the forest's secret rhythms. A Tapestry of Green: Bushenyi's Hunting Landscapes Bushenyi's geography makes it one of Uganda's most distinctive hunting destinations. The district sits at the edge of the Albertine Rift, where the land folds into steep hills and valleys carved by ancient glaciers. Three key ecosystems converge here: Montane Forests – Primeval stands of mahoPost: 22 July 08:46

The hunt photographed here was more difficult than most — for reasons beyond the weather and rugged terrain. It was my first trip back to Alaska since my father’s death in March of this year. Dad had joined me in Alaska twice before. The first trip was to fish and explore, the second to hunt caribou above the Arctic Circle. I remember asking him, “Do you want to go caribou hunting?” He shook his head with a quick, “No, not this year.” I pressed, sliding a plane ticket and his caribou tag across the dining room table. Surprised but hesitant—65 years old and a little nervous—he said yes. By June, he was packed and ready for our mid-September departure. That was Dad—quietly determined, but always prepared. We had a great hunt, and he killed a nice bull. On each solo hunt after that, I’d message him with my InReach every few days, updating him on close calls and wild moments. He loved it all. Last year, I wrote from the Alaska Peninsula, “Dad, I thought we had a big earthquake today—Post: 18 December 09:26
THE WOLF OF MY DREAMS!!!… The challenges of wolf hunting- you sit there staring into space, in a fog, your mind goes numb, for who knows how long… then all of a sudden, it happens. And when you spot a wolf, or a pack of wolves, your emotions REDLINE!!! You go from a lethargic daze to gasping for air… IT’S WILD!!! Let me tell you the story of this wolf… My friend Mark McKay, Richy and I were climbing in our blind at daybreak. I was sliding my feet into the bottom of my Heater Body Suit and just about to zip it up when I heard someone say, “WOLVES!!!” Remember the emotions I was telling you about. 🤯🤯🤯… Mark scooted into the blind and informed us he had just seen the whole pack, and they were coming our way! I quietly racked a shell in my Browning 7mm, and gave myself a pep talk about gathering my “chickens!” Eight wolves came into sight!!! They were about 170 yards away down over the ledge of a beaver dam. They held up just barely in a small shooting lane. That’s when I notiPost: 31 January 10:01

Bear hunting with Laika ( Russian husky ) On this video shown the most correct, typical LAIKA work (hunt) on a bear. The Russian word LAIKA (лайка) is a noun derived from the verb layat' (лаять, to bark), and literally means barker. As the name of a dog variety, it is used not only in Russian cynological literature, but sometimes in other languages as well to refer to all varieties of hunting dogs traditionally kept by the peoples of the northern Russia and adjacent areas. Laikas are aboriginal spitz from Northern Russia, especially Siberia but also sometimes expanded to include Nordic hunting breeds. Laika breeds are primitive dogs who flourish with minimal care even in hostile weather. Laika is a universal breed of hunting dog. Generally, laika breeds are expected to be versatile hunting dogs, capable of hunting game of a variety of sizes by treeing small game, pointing and baying larger game and working as teams to corner bear and boar. WHAT IS HARE HUNTING? Hare hunting involves the pursuing of hares by a pack of harriers, beagles, or bassets with followers either on foot or on horseback. The Association of Masters of Harriers and Beagles lists 71 current hare hunts that are still operating. Similar to the fox hunting season, hare hunting takes place between late August until March. However, whilst fox hunting takes place all over the country, hare hunting tends to be limited to certain areas and this is because hares stay within their territory. Hares spend the entirety of their lives above ground and so during the chase they do not seek safety underground like foxes do. This means they tend to stick to the area that they know and run in loops whilst being pursued by the hounds. Hare hunts can often last up to an hour with hares desperately doing everything they can to escape. Ultimately the hare being hunted will give up from exhaustion and be caught by the faster hounds before it is ripped to pieces.Post: 17 June 09:44

ALPINE IBEX HUNTING IN AUSTRIA Scientific name: Capra Ibex In the 17th century the Alpine Ibex was almost eradicated. For the people the ibex was a mystical animal and they believed that its bones, blood and even the excrements have a healing effect. Thank God, King Victor Emmanuell II of Sardinia, that he took the Alpine Ibex under protection and assured thus the stock of them . Today we have a very good population in Austria of Alpine Ibex along the main alps, but the number of licenses each year is still very limited. The Alpine Ibex is active during the day and primarily hunted by stalking and by observing from seats, in the morning and in the afternoon. Depending on the time of the year the hunt takes place all day long.Post: 23 May 14:02
