Hunting in Finland Hunting is part of the traditional way of life and living in our northern nature. Finland was originally inhabited in pursuit of game and fish. It continues to be an important form of recreation and a means of getting food. The busiest hunting season starts on August 20, the opening of the water fowl hunting season. The Finnish Wildlife Agency has drafted a guide for foreigners for getting the required permits. In Finland, a hunter must pay the annual Game Management Fee. In addition, hunters must have a hunting permit for the area where they plan to hunt. For some game animals, such as elk, a hunting permit granted by the Finnish Wildlife Agency is required. Game animals may only be hunted in their assigned hunting seasons. Further information is available at The Finnish Wildlife Agency. Permits for hunting are granted by the owner of the land. On state-owned land, permits issued by Metsähallitus. Permits are available by calling the sales number +358 20 69 2424

Early Season Hunting Conditions

Depending on where you hunt and exactly when you’re in the field, early-season hunting

Early Season Hunting Conditions Depending on where you hunt and exactly when you’re in the field, early-season hunting can be brutal. For example, sitting in a ground blind near an antelope watering hole or putting the stalk on a Western muley can cause you to sweat like you were trying to earn a spot in the NFL combine. You’d think that sitting perched in a tree would offer some relief due to the wind, but that’s not always true either. Hot and humid conditions without any breeze can be just as tough 15 feet up. Traditional cotton shirts or blue jeans don’t work well in these situations because they don’t breathe well or wick your sweat away. As a result, your clothes just stay wet and eventually start to stink. Not ideal for hunting, especially if you’re on a multi-day trip out west. At the same time, some southern or western hunts may take you through some challenging terrain, where briars, thorns, and other vegetation tears at your hunting clothes. That means your lightweight hunt

Local experts provide safety tips for 2021-2022 hunting season. Fall has begun in West Virginia, bringing with it cooler temperatures, beautiful colorful leaves and the beginning of hunting season. Like any other state, a number of different rules and regulations are in place. However, many forms of hunting are currently available to residents. Hunting season for squirrel began on Sept. 11 and will continue through Feb. 28. “Small game has such a high reproductivity we can extend the seasons and have higher limit,” said Steve Rauch, District 1 wildlife biologist for the West Virginia Division of Natural Resources. However, for most hunters in West Virginia, hunting means big game, such as deer and bear. Archery and crossbow season began on Sept. 25 and continue through Dec. 31. During archery season, hunters can take either an antlered or antlerless deer or a bear. Hunters should pick up a copy of the “Hunting and Trapping Regulations Summary” to familiarize themselves with the r

Evolution of hunting laws and wildlife conservation/management Upon what concepts are hunting policies and laws based? Wildlife management and hunting policies have evolved over time, based largely on the “public trust doctrine,” which regards wildlife as held in the public trust and managed by scientifically based regulations. During the last century, sportsmen-conservationists demanded that their government put in place agencies, institutions, laws and regulations to conserve wildlife on behalf of the citizens. As part of that demand, sportsmen/conservationists advocated ethics and self policing by any and all who partake of America’s wild bounty. The laws, rules and regulations governing hunting form a framework for a system that is designed to provide surpluses of certain species of wildlife for hunting and fishing, revenue from which funds the conservation of all wildlife, including species that aren’t hunted. This system provides the agility for wildlife managers to respond to c

Vector Optics Continental X6 5-30x56 Review I've spent the last few months putting the Vector Optics Continental X6 5-30x56 MBR FFP through its paces, mounted on my trusty rifle with the included one-piece Picatinny mount. I'm not going to sugarcoat anything, just giving you the straight dope from a hunter who actually uses his gear. Vector Optics Continental X6 5-30x56 - The Good: Crystal Clear Glass: Seriously, the glass is impressive for the price. Edge-to-edge clarity is excellent, and I was able to pick out details in low light situations better than I expected. This is a huge plus when you're trying to identify game at dawn or dusk. First Focal Plane (FFP) Reticle: This is a must-have for me. The MBR reticle is well-designed, not too cluttered, and allows for accurate holdovers at any magnification. I really appreciate how the reticle subtensions stay consistent, making long-range shots much more predictable. Solid Build Quality: The scope feels robust and well-made. The tu

Woodcock Hunting Methods in Morocco: Field-Tested Techniques for Real Bird Hunters 🪶 Woodcock hunting in Morocco is not for the casual shooter—it’s for hunters who appreciate the challenge of elusive birds, unpredictable terrain, and the satisfaction of working dogs through dense cover. The Eurasian Woodcock (Scolopax rusticola) migrates to Morocco from late October through February, settling in humid forests and shaded valleys. This article breaks down the actual hunting methods used in Morocco, based on real field experience—not theory. --- 🎯 Method 1: Walked-Up Hunting Over Pointing Dogs This is the gold standard for woodcock hunting in Morocco. It’s how most serious hunters operate in the cork oak forests of Azrou, Ifrane, and Benslimane. 🔹 How It Works: • Hunters walk in a loose line, spaced 15–20 meters apart. • Pointing dogs (English Setter, Brittany Spaniel, German Shorthaired Pointer) quarter the ground ahead. • When a dog locks on point, the hunter approaches quietly

Fury as Victoria moves not to ban duck hunting despite inquiry recommendation Animal rights activists and politicians have slammed the Victorian government's decision to keep duck hunting legal, despite an inquiry recommending a ban on the controversial practice. The government today announced it would not ban hunting of duck species in Victoria despite a long-standing push to end the practice. Animal rights activists have labelled the decision inhumane, arguing that some species were under enormous pressure, while others were endangered. Victorian Environment Minister Steve Dimopoulos confirmed the controversial decision today. "There are a diversity of views on this within the Victorian community and we've tried to listen to all of them," Dimopoulos said. "We accept that duck hunting is a legitimate activity that many thousands of Victorians enjoy and we want to make it safe, responsible and sustainable." The government plans to make changes to hunting laws to reduce the effects

France revises hunting rules but stops short of Sunday ban France's government on Monday announced tighter rules against hunting under the influence of drugs or alcohol, and protection for walkers and local residents, but stopped short of a hoped-for Sunday ban. Although a weekend "no hunting day" is popular with the public, President Emmanuel Macron is wary of alienating rural voters and adding to anti-government resentment as he launches a major pension reform. Instead, junior environment minister Berangere Couillard said hunting under the influence would be banned, training and safety rules for hunters strengthened and digital systems developed to warn other countryside users away from active hunting zones. Punishments will also be upgraded, including hunters losing their licences if they are involved in a serious accident. "My goal is to aim for zero accidents," Couillard said on a Monday trip to the Loiret department south of Paris. "We want to see better safety, seven days

New Jersey Bill Would Require Landowners to Notify Neighbors Before Hunting Their Own Land gislators in New Jersey introduced a bill last month that would change the state’s regulations for hunting on private land. Assembly Bill 3732 calls for an expanded safety buffer that would prohibit hunters from nocking an arrow or carrying a loaded weapon within 450 feet of any occupied building in the state. A3732 would also require private landowners in the state to notify neighboring landowners before they could be allowed to hunt on their own land. More specifically, the legislation would require landowners to “provide written notice to and obtain written confirmation from the owners and occupants of adjacent properties [prior to] any hunting activities.” That written notice must include the date, time, and length of the proposed hunt, and it must be delivered to neighboring properties at least 24 hours in advance of any hunting activities. WHAT IS HARE HUNTING? Hare hunting involves the pursuing of hares by a pack of harriers, beagles, or bassets with followers either on foot or on horseback. The Association of Masters of Harriers and Beagles lists 71 current hare hunts that are still operating. Similar to the fox hunting season, hare hunting takes place between late August until March. However, whilst fox hunting takes place all over the country, hare hunting tends to be limited to certain areas and this is because hares stay within their territory. Hares spend the entirety of their lives above ground and so during the chase they do not seek safety underground like foxes do. This means they tend to stick to the area that they know and run in loops whilst being pursued by the hounds. Hare hunts can often last up to an hour with hares desperately doing everything they can to escape. Ultimately the hare being hunted will give up from exhaustion and be caught by the faster hounds before it is ripped to pieces.

After deer season closes, rabbit hunting offers up an exciting pastime in the winter months. It's a different rush from the explosion of grouse hunting or the majesty of flushing a mallard at dawn, but rabbit hunting has its particular draws. Rabbit hunting is a new kind of challenge, and a fun one, for many hunters. The burst of brown fur out of the underbrush, followed by the fluid movement of your rifle, spurs adrenaline through your body. Rabbits are plentiful, so, if you find them, you can usually put a few away for future meals of yummy rabbit stew. It's a great way to get novice hunters and youngsters out there, especially in a season that doesn't have too many options for hunting. You don't need a pack of dogs to go rabbit hunting; you can head out on a solo hunt with a single shot and a pocketful of shells and be just as successful. By studying rabbits' defensive strategies, understanding their hiding places, and being patient, you'll be well on your way to bagging a few

Trophy hunting: why a UK import ban threatens wildlife conservation Trophy hunting, where animals with characteristics such as large antlers are legally hunted, and their meat usually eaten - is highly contested. While some argue it is unethical and delivers few benefits, others say it provides an important incentive for conserving threatened species and habitats by helping generate revenue for governments and local communities. New Zealand: the perfect trip The more difficult the route and the further away the point on the map, the more carefully you prepare for the trip. And more often than not, expectations from a new place are too high. But not in the case of a trip to 🇳🇿New Zealand! This place cannot be overestimated. The beauty of nature, comfort, high standard of living, culture, service. Everything here 💯 is incredibly 💯 enjoyable! Hunting is also a mix of wild open hunting for local mountain tare and chamois and hunting on a farm for deer - red deer, wapiti, fallow deer, white-tailed and wild sheep. You can either run around the ⛰mountains in fair pursuit, or pick up beautiful antlers for a qualifying trophy down on the 🏞 plain. Tastes and goals are different. In New Zealand, everything will be selected so that you will definitely like it. 👉 We strongly recommend leaving a few days for traveling around the islands 🏝 and fjords. You will have something to tell your grandchildren! 💬 write
