🏆2022 Guide of the Year: TYNE MCCAUGHEY!🤠 All of the award buckles every year are pretty cut and dry and require no thoughts, just a tape measure. However, the Guide of the Year buckle is a whole other story and it gets harder every year. We are so lucky and blessed to have such a solid core of amazing guides that it’s become torturous to pick just one stand out. After many hours of pillow talks, road trip talks, and head scratching, we feel very good choosing our great friend, Tyne McCaughey, for Guide of the Year. Tyne has proven his loyalty from the get-go. His tenacity as a hunter is unquestionable. His hunters all comment that he is like hunting with a buddy. “Tyne ain’t faking shit!”💪 His willingness to do whatever is needed in camp or the field to make the dream work does not go unnoticed. As tough and as old-school as Tyne is, I’ve been told by our younger assistants and trainee guides that Tyne has great patience in helping teach them all aspects of our profession.

RED DEER The majestic Red Deer is the king of the French forests. An emblematical animal in Europe and mythical through Saint Hubertus’s legend, the hunters’ Patron Saint : the legend says that On Good Friday morning, when the faithful were crowding the churches, Hubert went anyway after deer.

An old legend tells how a bear and an eagle lived for a long time in peace and harmony with each other. They shared their lives in the forest and often met in a clearing, where they exchanged stories and news. One day, a bear and an eagle argued about which of them was better and stronger. The bear claimed that he was the main master of the forest and had great power, while the eagle objected that he was the king of heaven and had a more majestic appearance. The dispute between them began to heat up, and they could not come to an agreement. Each of them was convinced that he was right and that his point of view was the only true one. Their differences became more and more serious, and they stopped communicating with each other. Thus, the bear and the eagle quarreled and no longer maintained friendly relations. The forest began to lose its harmony, and the animals could no longer enjoy the same freedom as before. This legend reminds us of how hostility and disagreement can destroy h

‘Field and Stream’ has been the preeminent American outdoors publication for over a century with a current monthly circulation exceeding 1,000,000. It was the outgrowth of a periodical entitled ‘Northwestern Field and Stream’ which was first published in St Paul Minnesota in 1895. A year later, John P Burkhard acquired this publication, renamed it, and dubbed it “A Journal for the True Sportsman”. As his first editor, Burkhard hired Charles Hallock, stealing him away from ‘Forest and Stream’, the leading outdoor magazine of the time which had been published regularly since 1873 but was eventually absorbed in 1930 by the increasingly popular ‘Field and Stream’. Hunting, fishing and camping were, and continue to be, the strongest focuses of the magazine. There have been more than 150 covers depicting the various forms of fishing, and many are specifically about fly fishing.
