These tiny critters the size of a guinea pig, are the speediest and hardest working animals in the alpine zone of the mountains. They are Lagomorphs and closely related to rabbits. They spend most of their days gathering tundra grasses and wildflowers to store in their winter food stashes to be able to survive the cold harsh mountain winters. I spend numerous days and hours each summer up high in the Rocky mountains of Colorado, observing and trying to photograph these little speedsters. Here is the second set of photos. All images captured with a Nikon Z8 and Nikkor 800mm F6.3 lens, some with a 1.4x teleconverter for focal length of 1120mm. Most are captured with a shutter speed of 1/4000 sec, F7.1 or F8, various ISO's up to 20,0000, handheld and cropped.

I have posted this painting before, but it is the last Tuesday in January and The Scarteen Black and Tans meet at Emly as they have for season after timeless season. The country depicted here is crossed from this iconic meet. Emly is a beautiful town, and today the clock will stop at 10.45am as hounds are are paraded up to the school for the children to see. As they pass along the Main Street most doors will open, shops and offices pause in business and traffic pull over to welcome and admire the iconic and beautiful hounds and those mounted who are eager to follow them. This is a place that recognises the valuable and intrinsic part played by the hunt in rural society. Thankfully these places still exist, consequently the hunting is first rate!! My beloved pony of 10 years is 25 this year and has been having some physical changes recently: new dx of Cushing's, EMS, IR and laminitis. (We have a specialist vet and farrier on our team.) I have been spending lots of time on the ground with her and going on walks together, and I want to learn something new with her to keep her mind engaged and strengthen our bond. I'm not sure if/when I will be able to ride her again but I want to keep her life enriched as long as she can move around and is not in pain. I'd love some liberty lessons and connections to any resources (clinics, books, online programs, facebook groups, etc) to learn about this type of horsemanship. Targeted areas include roadways and trails in Horseshoe Park, Upper Beaver Meadows, Moraine Park, Harbison Meadow and Holzwarth Meadow, according to the Loveland Reporter-Herald. While 2020 had extended closure times from 7 a.m. to 10 a.m. due to the uptick in park visitors, this year, closures will occur from 5 p.m to 10 a.m. and run through Oct. 31.
