Border Terrier: The Rugged Little Hunter You Might Be Overlooking The Border Terrier. Most people picture a scruffy, friendly family dog. But beneath that charming exterior lies a tenacious, skilled hunter that's been quietly working alongside sportsmen for over a century. If you are looking for a versatile, hardy, and manageable hunting companion, it's time to consider this breed. What Does a Border Terrier Hunt? Don't let their size fool you. Border Terriers were originally bred to bolt foxes, meaning their primary job was to drive foxes out of their dens so the hounds could continue the chase. This inherent drive translates into a surprisingly versatile hunter: Fox: This remains their forte. They are relentless at the den and possess the grit to stay at it. Badger: Similar to fox, they will readily go to ground after badger. Rats and Vermin: An absolute terror to rodent populations. Excellent for farm and estate work. Squirrels & Rabbits: While not their primary quarry, a B

I was taking a hike up a centennial 13er in the San Juans on Tuesday morning and was, uh, surprised to meet up with a couple of female moose on my path up. We had a stand off for about 5 minutes when it was clear at least one of them was NOT getting off the path. I had to bushwhack up the side of the mountain about 30 yards and make my way by them. THEN, as I was coming home late that afternoon? I met HIM about a mile from my car. How lucky can one guy get? It’s a spooky feeling when there’s nothing between you and them except empty space. The moon was so bright that morning. And I ran into this cabin on the way up and down. Someone has put some money into it because the roof is metal and newish. The rafters and main beams inside are also newish. Heck, one of the joist hangers even has price tag on it. I just happened to be sitting in the cabin on my way back to my car when I heard what sounded like an explosion and a lot of rockfall. I ran outside the cabin in time to see dust clouds

But sometimes, when everything is perfect, it simply happens, finding yourself just a few meters away from the buck of your dreams. The rest is history. Yuri Gagarin hunting, 1966. Yuri Gagarin, the first human to journey into outer space, found solace and excitement in hunting during his time on Earth. Despite his groundbreaking achievements in space exploration, Gagarin cherished the simplicity and challenge of tracking game through Russia's vast wilderness. Hunting offered Gagarin a chance to reconnect with nature and escape the pressures of his high-profile career. He particularly enjoyed bird hunting, often venturing out with friends and fellow cosmonauts to the serene landscapes surrounding his home. With his trusty shotgun in hand, Gagarin approached each hunt with the same focus and precision that defined his historic space missions. Colleagues noted his enthusiasm for the sport, describing how he would meticulously prepare for each outing, studying animal behavior and planning his strategy. Hunting provided Gagarin not only with physical relaxation but also mental clarity, allowing him to reflect and recharge away from the

Hunting With Dogs: Training & Safety Tips Hunting with your dog is an exhilarating way to experience outdoor life with your furred friend. Dogs have been hunting with humans for millennia. Many hunting breeds were actually developed specifically to find, flush out, or retrieve game. But that doesn’t mean that your dog will automatically know what to do on a hunt. Before you head out in search of game with your canine companion, you’ll need to train your dog. Aside from helping you find and retrieve the quarry you’re after, dogs also must become used to loud sounds like gunshots. You’ll also need to bring along the proper hunting gear necessary to keep your dog safe and satisfied in the field. Get Your Dog Used To Gunshots Gunshots are loud and can spook your dog into running off in the middle of a hunt. That’s why gun training is so important. Hardest Deer to Hunt Every hunter loves to boast about their stories on how hard hunting their buck was. But are those really that difficult? Today we will be talking about the hardest deer to hunt out there in the wilderness. When it comes to hunting, it is not just about finding the animal. This journey involves a lot of other challenges like facing bitter mountain winds, climbing over boulders. Such hunts are enough for reducing even those with reasonable fitness to a broken-hearted, weak-kneed puddle if the hunter is not aware of the challenges that come when hunting the hardest animals. Field Tested: Browning Trail Cameras Trail cameras serve two purposes: tracking and security. Slimline options do their best at remaining undetected to human beings who might be trespassing on your property, while larger, higher-definition models will draw the most detail out of whatever sets it off. Earlier this year, my wife and I obtained an eight-acre piece of property that has remained untouched for nearly a decade. As such, it has become a bit of a sanctuary for animals that run off from the adjacent state game lands abutting its corner. Property of this nature is often desirable, as it typically makes for an easy hunt due to its long vacancy. However, for the same reason, it becomes attractive to those that want to have a private hunting experience without paying for land of their own. With that in mind, I scoured Browning’s website to find affordable cameras to serve my purposes, and came up with the Strike Force Gen 5 and the Dark Ops HD Max.Features The features on both came

The last time hunting was considered something for the wealthy and powerful was back when it was considered appropriate to go to Africa or Alaska to shoot elephants or lions or polar bears in Africa or Alaska. In the Middle Ages, in contrast, hunting was very much an activity for elites. Nobles loved to hunt, to the the point that giving up hunting was a sign of serious penance. Several saints started life as rich lords but were converted to the religious life when, on a hunting trip, they saw an animal carrying a cross.
