muzeum zbraní Muzeí se stálými expozicemi zbraní máme v Čechách povícero. Jeho expozici totiž tvoří zbraně vzduchové, lidově řečeno vzduchovky. Co se vzduchovkami v myslivosti? Tak minimálně je to jejich úloha ve výcviku v zacházení se zbraní a cvičení ve střelbě. Ne všude můžeme střílet z kulovnice či malorážky. Už méně je známo, že vzduchovky, přesněji větrovky, tedy vzduchovky na stlačený vzduch, byly používány i v myslivosti, dokonce ve vojenství. V minulosti byl lov výsadou šlechty a s tím souviselo i právo držení zbraní. Ve sbírkách šlechtických rodů byly zastoupeny i větrovky a existují záznamy, že se dokonce používaly k lovu jelení zvěře. Výkon tehdejší větrovky se pohyboval v rozpětí 100 až 200 Joule, což je výkon pistolového náboje 6,35 Browning, malorážového náboje .22 long rifle apod. Pennsylvania deer hunters have reason to celebrate after lawmakers have done away with a “blue law,” which prohibited hunting on Sundays in the Keystone State for more than 100 years. Gov. Tom Wolf is expected to sign the law, which will allow hunters to hunt one Sunday during rifle season, one Sunday during archery season, and one Sunday to be determined by the Pennsylvania Game Commission. Set #2 of the FLYING pika! (Please view each image large for details) One of my absolute favorite and most challenging subjects to photograph........the mighty American Pika. These tiny critters the size of a guinea pig, are the speediest and hardest working animals in the alpine zone of the mountains. They are Lagomorphs and closely related to rabbits. They spend most of their days gathering tundra grasses and wildflowers to store in their winter food stashes to be able to survive the cold harsh mountain winters. I spend numerous days and hours each summer up high in the Rocky mountains of Colorado, observing and trying to photograph these little speedsters. Here is the second set of photos. All images captured with a Nikon Z8 and Nikkor 800mm F6.3 lens, some with a 1.4x teleconverter for focal length of 1120mm. The Utah Division of Wildlife Resources (UDWR) announced the statewide emergency closure today in an effort to help deer and other big game across the state. This applies to both public and private land. The closure is in place Feb. 7 through April 30. Extreme cold and high snowpack are impacting deer in particular. Colorado Parks and Wildlife seeks elk poacher It’s definitely offseason for elk hunting, but someone didn’t get the message. Colorado Parks and Wildlife (CPW) is looking for any leads in a recent poaching incident that occurred in Park County, Colorado around June 26. A large bull elk carcass was left to waste with the majority of the meat still there, according to Channel 9 News. CPW believes the elk was illegally shot between June 24 and 26 in the area between Como and Hartsel, west of Colorado Springs. The carcass was dumped along Pike National Forest Road 146. A high-power rifle was used and only the backstraps and one antler was removed. The rest of the carcass was left to rot. CPW is hopeful that campers or residents in the Tarryall area or the Indian Mountain Buffalo subdivisions may have seen something related to the crime. “This was a senseless and disgraceful act which demonstrates a complete disregard for Colorado’s wildlife,” said Ian Petkash, CPW District Wildlife Mana

While I’ve been blessed to travel North America in search of big whitetails, I live and hunt mostly in Kentucky. But, growing up, I didn’t have enough access to let properties soak until gun season. I only had one or two places to go, and I wanted to hunt. I’m more avid about bowhunting than gun hunting anyway. So, it just never made sense to not hunt at the earliest opportunity. Then, in 2015, I started leasing another property, which gave me additional access here at home. Since then, except for a few seasons, the practice has been to leave the property unhunted until rifle season in November. My anecdotal theory is that whitetails will get pressured by neighboring bowhunters, which will push deer onto the lease, ultimately “stacking” deer onto it for gun season. Hunting the Snowshoe Hare It’s hard to imagine a winter day spent more pleasantly than stalking through Alaska’s taiga hunting the snowshoe hare. There’s not a better reason to explore the reaches of our well-forested state, and there’s not an animal that’s better-suited to live there. Some days you find them, some days you don’t. To me this dichotomy represents the greatest draw of hunting hares: They’re routinely elusive but occasionally attainable, at once an animal that children’s hunting dreams are made of yet still wholly capable of making even the wisest feel like an idiot.
