Remington Model Seven When I worked behind a gun counter, probably I sold more Model Sevens than all of my colleagues combined. The Model Seven is essentially a shortened 700 action that maintains virtually all of its virtues. These little rifles prove that you don’t need a magnum-length barrel to have an effective hunting rifle. Compact, relatively light and portable, these rifles are just the ticket for hunting from tree stands, in timber or in thick brush. Though Model Sevens were chambered in everything from the 17 Remington to the 300 SAUM over the years, examples in .260, 6.5 Creedmoor and 7mm-08 are my personal favorites, particularly for whitetails..

BC resident Kyle Southgate was able to seize the opportunity once he found a break in the weather. A nice day quickly turned into a huge snowstorm with gusty winds. He decided to head down the mountain in hopes of escaping the poor visibility conditions. As he made his way further down, the weather had cleared up, leaving this old, 15 year-old billy standing on a small cliff face. Kyle sprung into position and made a great shot. 🦆 Duck Call Trials in the Marsh 🦆 Spent the morning knee-deep in the reeds testing out a few different duck calls. From double reeds to acrylic hand-tuned beauties - each one had its moment. They live in such diverse terrain; they are frequently hunted in extreme weather and they vary dramatically in size from hundred-pound deer to nearly a ton of bison. And, regardless of size, habitat or weather, one of the biggest challenges of bowhunting is judging distance to the target animal. Mis-guessing the distance to the target, by only a few yards, is perhaps the most common reason archers miss game when bowhunting. Even with high tech, modern bows, there is still plenty of arc in an arrow’s flight path. Without question, the best way to judge yardage is to make use of a modern laser range finder, preferably one with angle-compensation features.
