Blaser R93 This is an unconventional design that could only come from Germany. The Blaser’s straight-pull bolt action is a marvel of Teutonic engineering, designed for extremely rapid shooting on driven game. The beauty of this rifle, though, is its versatility. Simply by swapping a few components, the R93 can be chambered for any cartridge ranging from .22 LR to .500 Jeffrey. A small take-down case can house the rifle along with an extra barrel or two, creating an incredibly versatile and convenient package for the international hunter. The R93 was replaced with the newer R8 a few years back, but remains a favorite for many.

Blaser F16 Shotgun Review for Hunters and Clay Shooters: Models, Specs, Calibers, Accessories & User Insights 🔍 Overview Blaser F16 Shotgun The Blaser F16 is a premium over-under shotgun engineered in Germany, designed to meet the demands of both field hunters and competitive clay shooters. Whether you’re pursuing upland game or breaking clays on the range, the F16 offers precision, reliability, and style. --- 🧩 Models and Modifications Blaser F16 Blaser offers several F16 variants, each tailored to specific shooting disciplines: • F16 Game: This model is optimized for hunting. It includes adjustable features and a balancer system for fine-tuned performance. • F16 Intuition: Built specifically for female shooters, featuring a modified stock geometry for improved comfort and control. • F16 Pro Series: A collaboration with world champion Cory Kruse, this version includes RHINO ported barrels, a Kick-EEZ recoil pad, and enhanced ergonomics. • F16 Baronesse: A luxury edition with high-grade walnut and ornate engraving, aimed at collectors and shooters who appreciate aesthetics as much as performance. --- ⚙️ Technical Specifications The Blaser F16 is built around a monocoque steel receiver with the lowest profile in its class—just 60mm in height. This contributes to a natural pointability and reduced muzzle flip. The receiver is CNC-machined and finished in matte black for durability and minimal glare. The trigger system is a single selective trigger with a crisp break at approximately 1650 grams (3 pounds, 10 ounces). A barrel selector is located in front of the trigger, allowing shooters to choose which barrel fires first. The F16 also features Blaser’s proprietary IBS® (Inertial Block System), which prevents double firing and ensures safe operation. The ejector system uses EBS® (Ejection Ball System), which activates only after a shot is fired. This reduces spring fatigue and makes closing the shotgun smoother and more consistent. Barrel lengths are available in 710mm, 760mm, and 810mm, depending on the model and intended use. All barrels feature Blaser’s Triplex® bore design, which optimizes velocity and reduces recoil. Chambers are chrome-lined and proofed for steel shot, with a 12/76 gauge (3” magnum). Stocks are crafted from Grade 4 or Grade 6 walnut, depending on the model. The Sporting variant includes an adjustable comb for personalized fit. The standard length of pull is 375mm, and the Sporting model also includes a balancer system in both the stock and barrel for optimal weight distribution. --- ⛓️‍💥 Calibers and Chokes The Blaser F16 is chambered in 12 gauge with 3” magnum capability. It supports a wide range of choke options, including flush-fit and extended Spectrum chokes. Available constrictions include Cylinder, Skeet, Improved Cylinder, Modified, Improved Modified, and Full. The shotgun is steel-shot proofed up to half choke, making it suitable for waterfowl hunting. Additionally, the F16 is compatible with aftermarket chokes from brands like Briley and Teague, giving shooters even more flexibility in pattern control. --- 🎯 Shooting Range and Hunting Use The effective range of the Blaser F16 is approximately 40 to 50 meters, depending on the load and choke configuration. This makes it ideal for both upland game hunting and clay target sports. Common game species hunted with the F16 include ducks, pheasants, pigeons, and rabbits. Its versatility also makes it a favorite among shooters participating in driven shoots and sporting clays competitions. --- 💰 Price and Value The price of the Blaser F16 varies based on the model and configuration: • The F16 Sporting Standard model typically retails around $5,800 USD and includes Grade 4 walnut but no adjustable comb. • The F16 Sporting Adjustable version is priced closer to $6,450 USD and includes an adjustable comb for better fit. • The F16 Pro Series, with custom enhancements, often exceeds $7,000 USD depending on dealer and options. Prices may vary by region, retailer, and optional upgrades such as engraving or custom wood. --- 🧠 Pros and Cons Advantages of the Blaser F16 include: • Exceptional balance and handling due to its low-profile receiver and modular weight system. • Reduced recoil and fast target acquisition thanks to the Triplex® bore and ergonomic design. • Crisp trigger pull and intuitive controls that promote confidence and consistency. • Elegant aesthetics with premium wood and metal fit. Disadvantages to consider: • The safety is manual rather than automatic, which may be a concern for some hunters. • The Sporting variant is slightly heavier than some competitors, which could affect fatigue during long shooting sessions. • Premium pricing may deter entry-level shooters or those on a budget. --- 🧰 Accessories and Customization Blaser F16 Shotgun Blaser offers a range of accessories to enhance the F16 experience: • Recoil Pads: Available in 15mm and 20mm thicknesses to adjust length of pull. • Stock Balancers: Adjustable weights that allow shooters to fine-tune the shotgun’s balance. • Choke Wrenches: Designed for quick and easy choke changes in the field or on the range. • Choke Boxes: Protective cases for storing up to five chokes. • Custom Engraving: Available on luxury models like the Baronesse and Heritage editions. --- 🗣️ User Reviews and Community Feedback Shooters consistently praise the Blaser F16 for its “decisive swing,” “gap-free wood-to-metal fit,” and “confidence-inspiring balance.” It’s often compared favorably to other high-end brands like Beretta and Perazzi, especially in terms of handling and build quality.

(2024). Blaser R8 Ultimate Huntec Rifle in .308 Win and 6.5 Creedmoor Review

I recently had the opportunity to put the Blaser R8 Ultimate Huntec rifle to the test, and I’d like

Blaser R8 Ultimate Huntec Rifle in .308 Win and 6.5 Creedmoor Review I recently had the opportunity to put the Blaser R8 Ultimate Huntec rifle to the test, and I’d like to share my thoughts based on my experience with it. Admittedly, I had high expectations given the reputation of the Blaser brand, and I am excited to discuss both the positives and negatives that I encountered. Pros: Modular Design: One of the standout features of the R8 is its modular system. I love that I can easily switch between calibers, specifically .308 Win and 6.5 Creedmoor, without needing specialized tools. This flexibility is perfect for someone like me who enjoys various types of hunting and shooting scenarios. Precision and Accuracy: Both calibers deliver exceptional precision. The .308 Win is a proven performer, making it ideal for larger game. Meanwhile, the 6.5 Creedmoor is renowned for its flat trajectory and minimal recoil, which made shooting at longer distances a less intimidating task for me. Build Quality: The craftsmanship of the Blaser R8 is impressive. The materials used feel premium, and the attention to detail in the rifle’s construction is evident. The overall fit and finish are top-notch, giving me confidence in its durability. Ergonomics: The rifle is comfortable to hold and shoulder. The balance is spot on, and I found it to be quite lightweight compared to other rifles in its class, making prolonged carrying during hunts manageable and enjoyable. Safety Features: I appreciate the ambidextrous safety mechanism, which adds an extra layer of safety. It’s easy to engage and disengage, which is crucial during high-pressure situations in the field. Cons: Price Point: The Blaser R8 Ultimate Huntec does come with a hefty price tag. I understand that you pay for quality, but the investment may be steep for some hunters or shooters, especially those just starting out. Complexity of Some Features: While the modularity is a great feature, I found the interchangeable components a bit confusing at first. For novice shooters, it might require a learning curve to fully appreciate and utilize the modular design effectively. Limited Accessories: While the rifle is customizable, I noticed that there aren’t as many aftermarket accessories available compared to other popular brands. This could limit opportunities for further personalization or optimization. Weight Distribution: Although it is lightweight overall, I felt that the weight distribution wasn't perfectly balanced with some scopes, leading to minor handling difficulties. Finding the right combination may take some trial and error. Overall, the Blaser R8 Ultimate Huntec is an impressive rifle that demonstrates a perfect balance of innovation, accuracy, and quality craftsmanship. While it may not fit every budget or preference, it certainly caters to discerning hunters and sharpshooters who value performance above all. Blaser R93 Attache .300 Win.Mag. with .222 Rem Barrel – Honest Review As an avid hunter and firearms enthusiast, I recently had the opportunity to test the Blaser R93 Attache chambered in .300 Win.Mag., accompanied by an additional .222 Rem barrel. Here's my honest review based on my experience. Build Quality and Design: The Blaser R93 Attache is a testament to German engineering, featuring an impressive build quality that feels robust yet lightweight. The design is sleek and ergonomic, allowing for a comfortable grip and easy maneuverability. The modular design of the R93 platform truly stands out, allowing users to swap barrels effortlessly, making it a versatile choice for various hunting scenarios. Performance: The .300 Win.Mag. barrel delivers outstanding performance, providing excellent accuracy and knockdown power for larger game. I found that the recoil was manageable, thanks in part to the rifle's design and weight distribution. The trigger pull was crisp, enhancing overall shooting precision. Transitioning to the .222 Rem barrel was seamless and offered a completely different shooting experience. It’s perfect for varmint hunting and smaller game, providing remarkable accuracy at distance. Versatility: One of the biggest selling points of the Blaser R93 Attache is its versatility. With the option to switch between the .300 Win.Mag and the .222 Rem barrels, you can adapt to various hunting conditions and game types without investing in multiple rifles. This feature is particularly appealing for hunters who travel or have diverse hunting interests. Ammunition and Compatibility: Both calibers I tested had no issues with ammunition compatibility. I used a variety of brands, and the R93 handled everything with ease. The ability to fine-tune loads for each barrel also adds to its appeal, allowing for customization based on specific hunting needs. Price and Value: While the Blaser R93 Attache carries a higher price tag compared to some competitors, the quality and versatility justify the investment. If you’re a serious hunter or shooter looking for a reliable and adaptable firearm, this rifle could be worth every penny. Conclusion: Overall, the Blaser R93 Attache in .300 Win.Mag. with the additional .222 Rem barrel offers an exceptional blend of quality, performance, and versatility. Whether you’re hunting big game or varmint, this rifle does not disappoint. However, be prepared for the premium price point, which reflects its craftsmanship and functionality. If you're in the market for a high-end, multi-caliber rifle, the R93 Attache should be at the top of your list. #BlaserR93 #Attache #300WinMag #222Rem #RifleReview #HuntingGear #FirearmsEnthusiast #GermanEngineering #BuildQuality #ErgonomicDesign #VersatileRifle #ModularSystem #Accuracy #KnockdownPower #ManageableRecoil #CrispTrigger #VarmintHunting #Customizable #AmmunitionCompatibility #PerformanceReview #PriceAndValue #HighEndFirearms #ShootingPrecision #MultiCaliberRifle #

Blaser R93 with Three Barrels: .223 Rem, .30-06 Sprg, and 9.3x62 Review The Blaser R93 is a remarkable combination of versatility, precision, and modern firearm technology, making it a favored choice among many hunters and shooting enthusiasts. Having had the opportunity to use this rifle with three different barrels (.223 Rem, .30-06 Sprg, and 9.3x62), I would like to share my experience and thoughts on its performance, design, and handling. Design and Build Quality: The Blaser R93 stands out with its unique straight-pull action, which is a refreshing change from the more traditional bolt-action rifles. This design allows for faster follow-up shots, which can be critical in both hunting and competitive shooting scenarios. The build quality of the R93 is exceptional; every component feels robust and well-engineered. The wood finish is smooth and aesthetically pleasing, while the synthetic options provide durability and weather resistance. Versatility with Three Barrels: One of the most significant advantages of the Blaser R93 is its modularity. Having three interchangeable barrels gives shooters the flexibility to choose the right caliber for different game and shooting conditions. .223 Rem: This caliber is perfect for varmint hunting and small game. The rifle is lightweight and easy to handle, and its accuracy at range is impressive. I've used this barrel extensively for target shooting and light game, and it consistently delivers tight groupings. .30-06 Sprg: This is perhaps one of the most versatile cartridges available, and using it with the R93 has proven to be an enjoyable experience. The recoil is manageable, which is noteworthy for a round known for its power. The .30-06 is ideal for medium to large game, and I had a successful hunting trip using this caliber, delivering ethical, clean kills. The rifle’s balance makes it easy to aim, and the adjustable trigger is a nice touch that allows for customization based on personal preference. 9.3x62: This caliber might be seen as overkill for some tasks, but for larger game such as elk or bear, it shines. The 9.3x62 offers significant stopping power, and the performance potential is impressive. While the recoil is more pronounced, the rifle absorbs it well thanks to its ergonomic design, making it manageable even for extended shooting sessions. Handling and Performance Blaser R93: The straight-pull mechanism of the R93 significantly enhances the shooting experience. It allows for quicker follow-up shots without the need for the awkward manipulation often found in traditional bolt-action rifles. Additionally, the adjustable cheek piece and buttstock make it comfortable to shoot for long periods. I found the accuracy of all three barrels to be commendable, with great repeatability in terms of zeroing. The R93 has consistently produced tight groups at various distances. #BlaserR93 #RifleReview #InterchangeableBarrels #223Rem #30-06Sprg #9.3x62 #Hunting #FirearmTechnology #PrecisionShoo

How to Hunt Africa on a Budget

How to Hunt Africa on a Budget Chances Are You Can Do It Cheaper Than a Premium Elk Hunt My palms hurt and my knees were bloody from crawling over rocks. My legs ached. My lungs were threatening to quit on me if I had to climb one more mountain chasing a herd that was skittish to the point of paranoia. The guide and I had pursued them up and over so many mountains and glassed them from so many hidden vantage points that I had no idea how much territory we had covered or how we’d ever find our way back to the truck. When the shot opportunity finally came, it was a long one — 320 yards from our spot on a hill to where the bull was feeding on the opposite ridge. “Hold a foot high,” the guide said, and that turned out to be dead accurate. The cows scattered in a panic at the blast, and not long afterward we were standing over a mature bull I had worked harder for than any animal I’ve taken before or since. Sounds like a fairly typical elk hunt, right? Except it wasn’t an elk and I wasn’t in Colorado or New Mexico. It was a red hartebeest, and I was in South Africa. Afford a Dream Hunt That’s because an African safari is much less expensive than most people realize. In fact, it’s a good bit cheaper than a typical outfitted elk hunt. Don’t believe me? Look at the numbers. I hunted with Tollie’s African Safaris and booked the hunt through SHE Expeditions, a full-service booking agent. Over the course of five days, I shot that red hartebeest, a springbuck and a beautiful impala ram. Tollie’s outfit is no bargain-basement backwoods lodge — it’s a top-rate place with excellent food, comfortable accommodations and luxuries such as a spa and a first-class taxidermist on-site. It’s also almost entirely free range; an extraordinarily rare find in South Africa. Total cost for the trip breaks down like this: Lodging, food, and all necessary hunting services for five days: $2,250 Springbuck trophy fee: $400 Impala trophy fee: $520 Hartebeest (or kudu, gemsbok, duiker or wildebeest) trophy fee: $1,200 That’s $4,370. Add in airfare and a few odds and ends such as immunizations, tips and gun permit fees and you’re coming in around $7,500 for the whole deal. It’s not cheap, but compare it to a stateside elk hunt at a comparable lodge. SHE Expeditions recommends a New Mexico lodge that runs in the average price range for an outfitted elk hunt. Total cost for this trip: Lodging, food and five days of hunting: $10,000 Hunting license: $550 Meat processing not included Tack on tips and the cost of getting there and you could be pushing $12,500 or more. And you can shoot one animal as opposed to the three (or more) you could have shot in Africa. Additional Costs My mounts were done in Africa by Tollie’s taxidermy service and the cost was about what my local Alabama taxidermist would charge. On top of that, I had airfreight and customs broker fees of about $1,300 for three wall pedestal mounts. Other potential costs for a South Africa trip are firearm permits fees (around $100); immunizations you might need; additional airline baggage fees and the cost of any extra services or day trips you’d like to tack on. I recommend the hot-stone massage at Tollie’s spa and a day on the beach in Jeffreys Bay. Don't Miss: Hunting Eland in South Africa Know Before You Go The services of a booking agent are highly recommended. I booked through SHE Expeditions, which caters to hunters with a focus on female- and family-friendly locations. They handled every detail of the hunt, and believe me, there are dozens of little, but very important, details that you will overlook without such a service. It does not cost you anything to use their booking services, and they are absolutely invaluable, especially if this is your first hunting trip abroad. Whatever booking agent you use, make sure the agent has personally hunted at the lodge you plan to go to. The Johannesburg airport is not a safe or secure place and corruption among the employees (and police) is a problem. There are “safe house” services you will want to use if you must stay in the area overnight; ask your booking agent if they don’t mention it. We used the Afton Guest House, and its representatives met us at the Johannesburg airport and escorted us through the process of collecting our firearms and gave us safe lodging for the night until our connecting flight the next day. Don’t ask me how I know this, but its services are absolutely essential to keeping you out of jail should the slightest thing go wrong with your firearms permits — and there are many, many things that can go wrong. For that reason:

Air Rifles Continue Hunting’s Quiet Revolution I’ll never forget my first morning deer hunting on public land near my childhood home in southern Wisconsin, a state with more than 600,000 deer hunters. For nine days a year, the state could field the world’s seventh largest army. Since hunters are required to wear blaze orange during the gun deer season, come November the Wisconsin woods and fields take on the look of a never-ending pumpkin patch—a loud one at that. As I sat in a makeshift stand consisting of a board wedged between two branches about 15 feet off the ground, dawn brought a nearly steady barrage of rifle reports on the order of an Antietam reenactment. Until that time, I had no idea whitetail deer could run that fast. A blast from a .30-30, .270, or .30-06 (all common calibers used for deer hunting) will carry for miles, like gunpowder-induced thunder. The notion of a quiet morning communing with nature in the deer woods was, instead, something more akin to a day at the local gun range. Is it any wonder, then, that hunters in droves are paying hush money for compound bows, air bows, silencers and now, new air rifles that deliver never-before-achieved lethality while greatly reducing noise? The trend of ditching ear plugs for weapons that don’t rock the forest (or your ear drums) is a theme that’s booming among America’s 15 million hunters—and nearly everyone seems happy about it. One brand that is at the forefront of hunting’s quiet revolution is Umarex, purveyors of top-of-the-line air rifles. The company is helping change hunting’s trajectory with technological breakthroughs that have transformed an air rifle’s capabilities—dramatically. While Lewis and Clark used a primitive air gun to take more than 1,000 animals on their famed Voyage of Discovery, new Umarex models are light years from the early air guns—think the difference between the Wright Flyer and Apollo. At the heart of this quantum leap is a patent-pending valve. The valve, along with a unique regulator, instantly pulses a jet of compressed air at 3,000 pounds per square inch behind either a 550- or 250-grain slug. The result is that the slugs travel at 760 feet per second or 1,000 feet per second respectively. Translated, that’s a wallop. The aptly named Umarex Hammer.50 caliber air rifles are now being used across the globe to hunt everything from deer in the Midwest to bears in Canada to 2,000-pound Cape buffalo in Africa. Indeed, these aren’t your granddad’s air guns. In addition to significant noise reduction (hearing protection isn’t necessary when shooting Umarex air rifles) they do not kick like traditional centerfire rifles as their light recoil is more of a firm push rather than the sharp jolt common to other rifles. Moreover, air rifles are not subject to the same Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, and Firearms regulations as centerfire and rimfire firearms and can be purchased direct from Umarex rather than through a Federal Firearms Licensed dealer. The company has taken their technology to the archery market as well, offering CO2-propelled air bows that are marketed under the names AirJavelin and AirSaber. Their recent launches of the AirJavelin Pro PCP and the AirSaber Elite X2 double barrel arrow gun have been category redefining—to say nothing of looking like something out of Mad Max. The bows are powered by an onboard tank that will deliver up to 25 effective shots before needing recharge. With the air regulated to 1,500 pounds per square inch, arrows will launch at 370 feet per second, delivering plenty of energy to take deer and other game inside of 60 yards. With an over-abundance of deer in many suburban and semi-rural areas, Umarex’s air bows are finding a significant market where stealth is a requisite. The air rifles and air bows are a popular choice for vermin control anywhere you don’t want to alarm the neighbors. As legions of hunters embrace modern air rifles, a growing list of states have created hunting seasons expressly for the guns. Moreover, Safari Club International, the global conservation and hunter advocacy leader, has recently created a new record book designation exclusively for air rifle hunters. “Giving airgunners their own category in the SCI Record Book is overdue,” said the organization in a recent press release. And once most sportsmen and women realize they can enjoy a hunt in quiet solitude, there’s no going back. https://www.forbes.com/sites/chrisdorsey/2022/05/12/air-rifles-continue-huntings-quiet-revolution

The 5 Guns Every Outdoorsman Needs
It never hurts to have a few extra firearms, but if you’re a hunter and limited to just five, these are the ones you really can’t live

The 5 Guns Every Outdoorsman Needs It never hurts to have a few extra firearms, but if you’re a hunter and limited to just five, these are the ones you really can’t live without If you’re like me, you’d own 20 or more rifles, shotguns, and handguns, however many you could afford. But truth is, to have a blast shooting targets and hunting every species of bird and animal across America, you really only need five firearms. And those are the ones we’re talking about here. In this discussion, we’ll focus on the generic qualities and some specs of the five categories of guns. When you’re ready to buy, do your research on Google and at your local gun shop to find the brands and models that match your style and fit your budget. A .22 Rifle Every man, woman, and child on Earth needs a good old .22 rifle. Well, so long as they’re properly trained in firearms handling and safety. Whether for plinking on the Back 40 or potting a mess of squirrels in October, a .22 rifle is the gun most of us learn on. It’s the first gun you need to get into your kid’s hands as soon as he or she is ready to join our shooting fraternity. Relatively quiet to shoot and with no recoil, a rimfire rifle is the perfect tool for young or new shooters. For those of you who have been hunting awhile, think of a .22 as the perfect understudy for your deer rifle. You can go to the range several times a year and comfortably shoot a scoped .22 rifle all day long to fine-tune your sight picture, breathing, alignment, and trigger control. There’s no better practice for the upcoming whitetail season. (Don't Miss: Has the .30-30 Really Killed the Most Deer?) The .22 LR has long been the most popular cartridge in America, and today’s rimfire rifles are of the best quality yet. No matter your preference or budget, there’s a sweeting-shooting bolt-action or autoloader for you. Which one? I like a bolt because it simulates my deer rifles, but I’ve got to admit that a .22 autoloader with a capacity of 10 or more cartridges is a lot more fun to shoot. A Deer Rifle I could write for days about deer rifles, but here I’ll simplify things: Any centerfire rifle that shoots a 140- to a 180-grain bullet accurately out to 250-300 yards is a good choice for hunting any species of deer anywhere in North America. Five calibers you should consider: .270, .308, 7mm-08, .30-06, and 7mm Rem. Mag. There are many more adequate cartridges out there and new rounds popping up every so often, but go with one of the aforementioned and proven five, and you’ll be happy. I have three favorites: .270 Winchester: As hunting cartridges go, the .270 is a plenty accurate round with manageable recoil. The less that a rifle “kicks,” the better people shoot and hunt with it, no question. While the perfect caliber for whitetails, the .270 with a 140-grain bullet is fine if you get a hankering to go West for mule deer. 7mm-08 Remington: Overlooked by too many hunters, this round is accurate, easy to shoot, and has minimal recoil, making it an especially good choice for young hunters. I use mine to hunt Texas whitetails every year. .30-06 Springfield: If you want more power and can handle more recoil, you can’t go wrong with the time-proven .30-06. If you choose a bolt-action that fits you well and feels comfortable and snug on your shoulder and cheek, the recoil of an ’06 actually isn’t that bad. With good 180-grain bullets, you can hunt every hoofed mammal in North America, including elk and moose, with a .30-06. (Don't Miss: 5 Tips for Rifle Shooting Accuracy) Regardless, definitely go with a bolt-action. While some rifles will shoot better than others right out of the box, any new bolt gun you purchase will be more than accurate enough for deer hunting. All you really need is a rifle/scope/ammo combo that will shoot a 3-shot group that measures 2 inches or less at 100 yards. That’s a bar easy to meet, and most modern rifles with good scopes shoot better. Final thoughts: Barrels on today’s hunting rifles are typically 22 or 24 inches; either is fine. Lightweight synthetic stocks are tough, look OK, and shed rain. Many rifles come from the factory with trigger pulls of 5 pounds or more. You will shoot better with a crisp-breaking, 3 ½- to 4-pound trigger. Have a qualified gunsmith measure the trigger and lighten the pull if necessary. (Is it Safe to Hunt with Old Ammo?) A Bird Gun “Bird Gun” is our Southern term for a wood-stocked, lightweight, sweet-handling 12- or 20-gauge shotgun that is perfect for breaking clay pigeons and shooting a limit of quail, doves, or pheasants. We’re talking semi-auto or over/under with a 24- to 26-inch barrel(s) fitted with removable choke tubes. Skeet, Improved Cylinder, and Modified are the top tubes you’ll need and use. Many guns have 3-inch chambers, but you’ll be shooting mostly 2 ¾-inch shells from this gun (usually with No. 6, 7 ½, 8 or 9 shot). (Killer Buy Alert: Men's Realtree Turkey Flag Short Sleeve Gray Shirt) A bird gun is the cream of the crop of this collection, and it will run you $1,000 to $2,000 or a bit more. Shop around and check out the used gun rack at your local gun shop. Think of it as a lifelong investment; a gun you can pass along to one of your kids. But you need a fine shotgun to get the most enjoyment out of your wing-shooting, be it for clay pigeons or live feathers. If you’ll shoot mostly skeet and clays, I’d recommend a 20-gauge. If you’ll hunt a lot of doves, grouse, and definitely pheasants, I’d go with a 12. You could screw a Full Choke tube into your bird gun and use it to kill a turkey or a limit of mallards — I’ve done that a bunch of times — but there is a better choice of gun for that. A Magnum Shotgun While not a gun you’ll shoot every month, you need a heavy-duty 12-gauge magnum in your safe. It’s the ticket for turkey hunting in the spring, and a workhorse for waterfowling in fall and winter. It should be a pump or semi-auto, chambered for 3- and 3 ½-inch shotshells, with synthetic stock and cloaked in Realtree camo. If you’ll hunt mostly waterfowl, go with a 26- or 28-inch barrel. While that same barrel will work fine for gobblers, many of today’s specialty turkey guns have 21- or 22-inch barrels, which are easier to carry and maneuver in the woods. A variety of choke tubes for either steel or turkey loads are available in any gun you choose. (Don't Miss: The Benelli Super Black Eagle: One of History's Great Duck Guns) An All-Purpose Handgun I’ve been shooting a lot of handguns lately, mostly for the fun of it, but also because I want to be proficient with a pistol and ready to protect my family and property. For ease of use and dependability, you can’t beat a double-action revolver. Load up, aim at the target and pull the trigger five or six times until the gun is empty. There are snub-nosed revolvers up to large-frame magnum revolvers, but for most, a medium-frame gun with a 4- to 6-inch barrel chambered in .357 Magnum (from which you can also shoot .38 Special, but not vice versa) is about right. (Don't Miss: 5 Things to Know About Muzzleloader Accuracy) I started out with revolvers and still use them, but these days I do most of my shooting with a semiauto handgun. A semi-auto in 9mm, .40 S&W, or .45 ACP (three of the most common calibers) holds more ammunition than a .357 revolver, is faster to reload, and typically recoils less. Plus, most of them have better triggers and are easier for new users to shoot. Personally, I shoot a full-size .45 ACP double-stack that measures 7½ from the rear of the slide to the muzzle. My wife shoots a smaller, lighter version of the same gun in 9mm. For a day at the range, running 10- to 13-round magazines through semi-auto handgun is about as much fun as it gets. A semiauto pistol does require more thorough and frequent cleanings than a revolver, but I look at that as a good thing. It makes you learn your weapon — how to dissemble it, clean it, and reassemble it after every shooting session. That builds confidence, and makes you safer, too. Summary Once you’ve amassed these five firearms, you have the tools needed to hunt just about any critter that walks or flies in North America. You’re ready to plink paper or metal, and powder clays. Have peace of mind, because you’re set for both personal protection and fun. Now go out and have fun, shoot straight, and be safe.

Hunting Regulations & Seasonal Framework in Top End NT

Top End NT Hunting Seasons: When the Monsoon Dictates the Chase - Buffalo, Banteng and Wetland Pursuits Hunting Regulations & Seasonal Framework in Top End NT The Top End operates under the Northern Territory's Parks and Wildlife Conservation Act with year-round hunting permitted for feral buffalo, pigs, and goats across most areas. Waterfowl seasons follow federal guidelines (typically March to October), while crocodile harvesting requires special permits limited to management zones. The tropical monsoon climate creates extreme seasonal variations - most hunting occurs during the dry season (May to September) when floodwaters recede and roads reopen. Unlike Queensland's Cape York, the NT allows limited recreational crocodile hunting under strict quotas. Recent reforms include mandatory buffalo disease testing stations (2023) and expanded Indigenous Protected Areas affecting access to 40% of traditional hunting grounds. Digital permit systems now require satellite communication in remote areas like Arnhem Land. Peak Hunting Windows & Game Behavior in Top End NT Buffalo hunting peaks July-September when herds concentrate around shrinking billabongs in Kakadu and Arnhem Land. The Top End Buffalo Challenge each August tests marksmanship across floodplains, with prizes for cleanest kills. Banteng activity increases May-June before grasses become too dry, offering rare trophy opportunities. Pig movements intensify during the wet season (November-April) near floodplain margins, though access becomes impossible. Magpie geese hunting thrives March-May at wetlands like Fogg Dam before birds disperse. Unique Cultural Hunts with Traditional Owners demonstrate spear techniques during September-October when water levels permit access to sacred areas. Absolute Bans & Special Restrictions in Top End NT All native species including northern quolls and jabirus are protected. Marine turtle harvesting remains exclusive to Traditional Owners. National parks prohibit hunting except in special management zones. The wet season (November-April) creates natural closures due to flooding. Firearm restrictions apply within 5km of communities without council approval. Night vision equipment requires permits even for pest control. Lead shot is banned within 1km of all waterways to protect wetland ecosystems. Licensing & Access Requirements in Top End NT Hunters need a NT Hunting Permit and valid Firearms License, plus additional Crocodile Tags where applicable. The Top End Hunting Association provides: Digital access maps showing Indigenous lands Wet season road closure alerts Crocodile safety certification courses Cultural awareness training Most stations charge $300-$1000/week for buffalo access. The mandatory Monsoon Safety Course covers: Flash flood survival Saltwater crocodile encounters Emergency helicopter evacuation procedures Tropical disease prevention Penalties for Violations in Top End NT Illegal crocodile harvesting carries fines up to $77,500. Hunting in Aboriginal lands without permission risks $93,000 penalties. Taking protected species attracts $154,000 fines. Wasteful killing of game animals draws $15,400 per incident. Rangers conduct regular patrols, with recent cases near Darwin resulting in $250,000 in collective fines. Expert Tactics & Tropical Gear in Top End NT For buffalo, .375 H&H Magnum or larger with solid bullets is mandatory. Banteng require precise .300 Win Mag shots at 200m+ across open plains. Essential gear includes: Saltwater-resistant firearms (Blaser R8 recommended) Snake bite compression bandages (multiple sets) Satellite phones (InReach Mini 2 required) 50L+ water containers with purification Mosquito nets treated with permethrin The Top End Hunting Atlas details property boundaries and crocodile risk zones. Local guides recommend hunting from 0400-0900 during build-up season and utilizing termite mounds for elevation. The Darwin Hunting School offers specialized courses in: Monsoon weather pattern hunting Wounded game recovery in crocodile habitat Tropical firearm maintenance Emergency field dressing in extreme heat All hunting in the Top End occurs on Aboriginal lands - respect for Traditional Owners and sacred sites remains paramount. Many stations require participation in cultural ceremonies before granting access.

CONNEMARA'S Wild Rhythms: Hunting Calendar, Coastal Game Patterns, and Licenses in Ireland's Atlantic Frontier

General Hunting Rules and Seasons in Connemara

Connemara'

CONNEMARA'S Wild Rhythms: Hunting Calendar, Coastal Game Patterns, and Licenses in Ireland's Atlantic Frontier General Hunting Rules and Seasons in Connemara Connemara's hunting seasons blend standard Irish regulations with unique coastal adaptations. Deer seasons run 1 September - 31 December for stags (red deer only) and 1 November - 28 February for hinds, with Connemara's native herd enjoying special protection status. Waterfowl seasons follow national dates (1 September - 31 January) but are restricted to specific inland areas due to marine conservation zones. The region's hyper-oceanic climate - with 250+ annual rain days and salt-laden winds - creates compressed hunting windows, particularly for birds. Unlike neighboring Mayo, Connemara maintains complete bans on all mountain hare hunting and stricter controls on wildfowling due to wintering bird populations. The 2022 Conservation Act introduced mandatory use of non-toxic shot across the entire region and GPS tracking for all harvested red deer. Seasonal Hunting Variations and Peak Activity in Connemara Connemara's hunting calendar revolves around its dramatic coastal-mountain interface. The September-October red deer rut peaks later here (late October) in the Twelve Bens range, while November-December offers prime hind hunting in the Maumturks foothills. Duck hunters focus on the Ballynahinch Lake system from first frosts (typically December), with exceptional golden plover shooting along the Roundstone Bog edges. The Connemara Hunting Heritage Week each November features Gaelic-speaking guides demonstrating traditional stalking techniques and saltwater duck decoy methods. Connemara's microseasons are dictated by Atlantic storm tracks - savvy hunters monitor low-pressure systems that push game inland from coastal islands. Hunting Bans and Restrictions in Connemara Absolute prohibitions cover all islands (including Inishbofin), the Connemara National Park core, and within 1km of any marine shoreline. Protected species include grey seals, all seabirds, and the Connemara pony. Unique local restrictions: no shooting within 3km of aquaculture operations, lead ammunition ban region-wide, and mandatory use of silencers for deer stalking. The closed season runs 1 March - 31 August without exception. Temporary bans activate when rare migratory species like Greenland white-fronted geese are spotted in the Ballyconneely area. Licensing and Permits for Hunting in Connemara Beyond national licenses, the Connemara Red Deer Trust issues mandatory permits for stag culling (capped at 15 annually). The Western Wildfowlers Association coordinates access to limited duck hunting zones near Lough Inagh. Non-residents must hunt through approved guides like Connemara Wilderness Pursuits and complete a Gaelic place-name orientation course. Key contacts include Clifden Garda Station for firearm registration and the Roundstone Hunting Office for up-to-date restriction maps covering the Derrygimlagh Bog complex. Penalties for Violating Hunting Laws in Connemara Enhanced penalties reflect the region's conservation status: minimum €10,000 fines for illegal stag takes, mandatory vessel confiscation for island poaching attempts, and lifetime bans for lead ammunition violations. Marine patrols and NPWS drones monitor coastal zones year-round. Recent cases include €8,500 fines for shooting near commonage grazing areas and prosecution under the Wildlife Act for disturbing basking sharks during hunts. Tactical Tips for Hunting Success in Connemara Success in this windswept region demands specialized approaches. Focus on south-facing corries in the Twelve Bens during early season, shifting to glacial lake outlets like Lough Fee in winter. Essential gear includes: 1) Saltwater-resistant firearms (Blaser R8 or similar), 2) 10x50 marine-grade binoculars, 3) Hypothermia-rated waders for bog crossings, and 4) Irish-language maps to navigate unmarked townlands. The Clifden Hunting & Fishing shop provides daily wind/swell forecasts crucial for coastal zone planning. Given the extreme conditions, all hunters should carry emergency GPS beacons and register itineraries with local Coast Guard units. The Connemara Mountain Heritage Days each September feature rare demonstrations of currach-based wildfowling and peatland deer tracking. Monthly coastal survival workshops at Ballynahinch Castle teach emergency skills for marine-affected hunts. The Roundstone Bog Shooting Challenge tests marksmanship in typical Connemara conditions (horizontal rain, moving platforms). During closed seasons, licensed hunters assist with red deer census work and invasive plant removal in the Kylemore Abbey estate. These events emphasize the region's unique Gaelic hunting heritage while maintaining strict conservation protocols overseen by the Connemara National Park authority.
