Henry X Models: The Wait is Finally Over The Henry X Models Have Arrived The concept for the Henry X Model series began at the 2018 NRA Annual Meetings & Exhibits in Dallas, Texas where a blacked-out .45-70 rifle and .410 bore shotgun were put on display to gauge everyone’s reaction to this departure from Henry’s usual blued-steel or brass receivers and American walnut furniture. Suffice it to say that the response among showgoers was positive, but little did they know that Henry Repeating Arms had more up their sleeves. With the release of Henry’s first rifle to feature a side loading gate looming in production behind closed doors, the vision for the production version of the Henry X Model became clearer. In January of 2020, Henry Repeating Arms announced the X Model Series to the world in Las Vegas at the SHOT Show. With no booth on the show floor, Henry dropped the news with a Lever Action X Model .45-70 at Federal Premium’s booth alongside a new line of ammunition called HammerDo

When is the right time to restrict your aging hunting dog from the field? With shaking hands and nervous anticipation, I slipped the GPS collar around Winchester’s neck and felt the subtle trembling always present prior to launch. For a moment, I considered leaving the collar in the truck, knowing my big running partner wouldn’t be running strong enough for me to fear him going over the edge of nowhere, one of the defining characteristics of our 12-year relationship. He sat quietly, except for the gentle thumping of his tail on the seat, while I assembled the Winchester 101, 12-gauge, I had also considered leaving in the truck. But, Winchester knew that the gun and the collar meant a hunt, and their absence meant the outing was only a walk. The March morning had dawned clear and cold, suggesting the snow cover in the mountains would present a crust that would support Winchester’s weight. Opportunities for the perfect conditions that once were a luxury had become a necessity for Winc

Crocodile hunting. Egypt, 1870s. Photographer: Henri Bechard Henri Bashar opened a studio in Cairo and sold tourists photographs with views of ancient Egyptian structures. From the 1st millennium BC to the 4th century AD (Roman period), the ancient Egyptians mummified millions of animals, most of the mummies were classified by Egyptologists as ‘votive sacrifices’ to gods and goddesses. Before the construction of the Aswan Dam, Nile crocodiles were found throughout the Nile. Moreover, in ancient times crocodiles were found in Israel, Lebanon and Syria. The ancient Egyptians hunted crocodiles for their mummies, scientists have come to this conclusion. The crocodile, from which the ancient Egyptians made one of the mummies, was not grown in special conditions at the temple. Lever-action rifles may seem antiquated, but for some folks, they offer a great combination of hunting aptitude and self-defense effectiveness. The X Model from Henry takes their proven action and adds a bit of a tactical flair with synthetic furniture, a short rail at the end of the fore-end, and a threaded muzzle. Muzzle brakes or a suppressor can be easily added, and even for a camp rifle, being able to easily attach a light is a well-thought-out attribute. It’s a short, handy rifle that can be operated quickly and maneuvered well in tight spaces and cycled very quickly. Your caliber selection will depend on your needs. If you’re dealing with lots of bears as well as two-legged threats, the .45-70 will be the way to go. Otherwise, the .357 or .44 mag options offer plenty of power for hunting deer, and offer increased magazine capacity. Not to mention that the increased barrel length will give you better performance than a handgun will, with mild to little recoil. MSRP: $970
