I got the opportunity to photograph this impressive bull last week when he wandered from his grazing area to bed down under the trees. There was a young bull in the area with a missing antler who would run up to the him, briefly lock up his single antler, and then playfully run off like a dog. But the owl's ears are really farther down on the side of its head, and are just openings in the skull hidden beneath feathers. Its large eyes let it see in almost complete darkness, and if there is no light at all, its excellent hearing helps it hunt by sound. 25 Tips for Dove Hunters 1. Pick the Right Gun Dove hunting is supposed to be fun, and if you enjoy shooting family heirlooms or featherlight .410s at doves, who am I to tell you not to? But if your idea of fun is hitting more doves, choose a 12- or 20-gauge with some heft and at least a 28-inch barrel. A longer, heavier gun swings smoothly, points surely and soaks up recoil. The best dove shooting I did this past year was with a 12-gauge sporting clays gun. 2. Stock Up On Shells Ammunition is available again, and there’s no reason to run out opening day, which I have actually done. Begging shells from people in the field is just embarrassing. Field or target loads of Nos. 7½ or 8 lead or 6 or 7 steel work. Steel loads kill fine, by the way. Lighter loads, with less shot and lower velocities, kick a lot less than heavy, high-speed stuff, and you will shoot a lot in no more padding than a T-shirt. Nelielais ezers ar dzidro zilganzaļas krāsas ūdeni melleņu meža vidū, saukts arī par Čertoku, Čortoku un Čertaku, atrodas Grāveru silā, 12 kilometru attālumā no Aglonas. Sufozijas piltuvveida ieplakā izvietotā Velnezera dziļums sasniedz 17 metrus, bet ūdens caurredzamība vietām pat – 12 metrus. Tajā neietek neviena upīte vai avots un arī neiztek. Ezera ūdenī nav lielas ūdensaugu un ūdensdzīvnieku daudzveidības. Pie ezera ierīkotas atpūtas vietas ar galdiņiem un soliņiem, kā arī ugunskura vietas. Par Čertoka ezeru jeb Velnezeru apkārtējie iedzīvotāji zina stāstīt daudzus un dažādus nostāstus. Ezera apkārtnē nekad neesot dzīvojuši cilvēki, jo tie pie ezera nav spējuši ilgstoši uzturēties. Šeit cilvēki bieži nomaldas un neatrod ezeru. Ap ezeru 1977. gadā izveidots dabas liegums “Čertoka ezers (Valnezers)” 53 ha platībā. Lieguma platības lielāko daļu aizņem sausieņu priežu meži.
