THE GREATEST BOWHUNTER I EVER KNEW was born 121 years ago today. We shook hands for the first time in 1972 at the Pope and Young Club Convention and Awards Banquet in Denver, and our paths crossed frequently thereafter until his death in 1988. And like millions of other archers and bowhunters of that era, I was a big Fred Bear fan and longtime supporter of the legendary man in the Borsalino hat. Special personal memories include visits to the Bear Archery plant and Fred Bear Museum in Grayling, Michigan, before the company's production facility relocated to Florida; the annual Anderson Archery clinics and seminar stage we shared each June in front of large and appreciative crowds in Grand Ledge; and his final appearance at the P&Y gathering in Tulsa when we said our goodbyes one last time the year before his passing. Japanski sable-predstavnik je obitelji mustelida i smatra se grabežljivim sisavcem. Sibirski sable praktički se ne razlikuje od svog kolege, osim po staništu. Ovaj grabežljivac je prilično razigrana životinja, a ima i drugo ime – Japanska kuna. U prirodi postoje tri podvrste. Ova životinja ima vrlo vrijedno krzno, stoga jako pati od djelovanja krivolovaca. Japanski sable, kao i sve druge sorte sable, ima vitko i fleksibilno tijelo. Udovi životinje su relativno kratki, a glava ima klinasti oblik. Duljina tijela odraslih, zajedno s glavom, u prosjeku je pola metra, dok je duljina repa u prosjeku unutar 2 desetaka centimetara. Luksuzni rep odmah upada u oči, kao i kaput, koji karakterizira svijetla žućkasto-smeđa boja. Treba napomenuti da postoje životinje s tamno smeđom bojom dlake. The banteng is a good-sized ox, closely related to the gaur, but smaller and lighter, with a less developed dorsal ridge, relatively longer legs, a more elongated head and smaller ears. Sufozijas piltuvveida ieplakā izvietotā Velnezera dziļums sasniedz 17 metrus, bet ūdens caurredzamība vietām pat – 12 metrus. Tajā neietek neviena upīte vai avots un arī neiztek. Ezera ūdenī nav lielas ūdensaugu un ūdensdzīvnieku daudzveidības. Pie ezera ierīkotas atpūtas vietas ar galdiņiem un soliņiem, kā arī ugunskura vietas. Par Čertoka ezeru jeb Velnezeru apkārtējie iedzīvotāji zina stāstīt daudzus un dažādus nostāstus. Ezera apkārtnē nekad neesot dzīvojuši cilvēki, jo tie pie ezera nav spējuši ilgstoši uzturēties. Briedis yra didžiausias elnių genties atstovas. Jo svoris gali siekti iki 600 kilogramų, kūno ilgis apie 3 metrus, ūgis – 2,3 metro. Briedžio buveinė yra miškas, rečiau gyvūną galima rasti stepių zonoje. Jis platinamas Šiaurės Europoje ir Amerikoje. Jis taip pat randamas Azijoje, būtent Kinijoje, Mongolijoje ir Sibiro taigoje. Kai kuriose Europos dalyse briedžiai buvo visiškai išnaikinti. Dėl apsaugos, prasidėjusios 1920 m., rūšis buvo išsaugota ir perkelta į Vakarų Europą. Miškuose briedžiai mieliau įsikuria gluosnių tankmėje, prie upių, ežerų ir pelkių krantų. Miško tundroje jie dažniausiai aptinkami beržų ir drebulių giraitėse. Vasarą tundroje ir stepėje briedžių galima pamatyti ir atvirose vietose. Dažniausiai briedžiai gyvena apsigyvenę. Tose vietose, kur kritulių kiekis žiemą siekia 70 centimetrų, pereinama ten, kur mažiau sniego dangos. Susirinkę į bandas per dieną nueina apie 10-15 kilometrų. Briedžių kelionė trunka nuo spalio iki sausio.
