Tasmanian Highlands Hunting Calendar: When the Alpine Wilderness Calls - Fallow Deer, Wallaby and Mountain Pursuits Hunting Regulations & Seasonal Framework in The Tasmanian Highlands The Tasmanian Highlands operate under the state's strict Wildlife Regulations with distinct seasons for game species - fallow deer hunting runs from March to August, while Bennett's wallaby and feral rabbit seasons extend year-round. Waterfowl hunting is prohibited statewide, reflecting Tasmania's unique conservation priorities. The region's cool temperate climate creates compressed hunting windows - heavy snow often blocks high country access June-September, while summer brings park visitor restrictions. Unlike mainland alpine regions, Tasmania maintains absolute prohibitions on all hunting within its World Heritage Areas, covering 40% of the highlands. Recent reforms include mandatory GPS collar returns from harvested deer (2023) and real-time online access maps showing snow closures and fire danger r

Nullarbor Plain’s Hunting Calendar: When the Limestone Plains Awaken - Camel, Kangaroo and Outback Pursuits Hunting Regulations & Seasonal Framework in the Nullarbor Plain The Nullarbor Plain operates under cross-border regulations from both Western Australia and South Australia, with year-round hunting permitted for feral camels, goats, foxes and cats across most areas. Kangaroo harvesting requires special tags available only to professional shooters under the National Parks and Wildlife Act. The arid climate creates extreme seasonal variations - summer temperatures often exceed 45°C (November-February), restricting most hunting to cooler months (April-September). Unlike neighboring regions, the Nullarbor maintains unique restrictions along the Eyre Highway corridor with a 10km no-hunting buffer zone. Recent reforms include mandatory GPS tracking of camel harvests and complete bans on hunting within 50km of Aboriginal communities following the 2023 Cultural Heritage Act amendments.

Waterfowl seasons follow federal guidelines (typically March to June), while camel hunting requires special tags in specific management zones. The extreme desert climate creates unique seasonal patterns—most hunting occurs during the cooler months (April to September) when temperatures drop below 40°C. Unlike the Kimberley region, Pilbara maintains absolute bans on recreational hunting near mining operations and pastoral stations without explicit permission. Recent reforms include mandatory GPS tracking of harvested camels and expanded Indigenous Protected Areas that restrict access to nearly 30% of the region. The 2023

High Country Hunting Calendar: Mastering Alpine Seasons for Sambar, Deer and Mountain Game Hunting Regulations & Seasonal Framework in the High Country The Australian High Country operates under strict state-based regulations with Victoria and NSW managing respective alpine zones. Sambar deer hunting runs year-round in both states as an invasive species control measure, while fallow deer seasons typically span March-October. Duck seasons follow state protocols (March-June in Victoria, variable in NSW).

CONNEMARA'S Wild Rhythms: Hunting Calendar, Coastal Game Patterns, and Licenses in Ireland's Atlantic Frontier General Hunting Rules and Seasons in Connemara Connemara's hunting seasons blend standard Irish regulations with unique coastal adaptations. Deer seasons run 1 September - 31 December for stags (red deer only) and 1 November - 28 February for hinds, with Connemara's native herd enjoying special protection status. Waterfowl seasons follow national dates (1 September - 31 January) but are restricted to specific inland areas due to marine conservation zones. The region's hyper-oceanic climate - with 250+ annual rain days and salt-laden winds - creates compressed hunting windows, particularly for birds. Unlike neighboring Mayo, Connemara maintains complete bans on all mountain hare hunting and stricter controls on wildfowling due to wintering bird populations. The 2022 Conservation Act introduced mandatory use of non-toxic shot across the entire region and GPS tracking for all h

Bowhunter injured by angry moose You don’t want an angry moose after you – especially if it knows you tried to kill it. Rescuers responded to a distress alert from a bowhunter’s GPS in Larimer County, Colorado on Tuesday after the hunter attempted to shoot a moose with an arrow. However, when he missed, the moose “charged and then gored” the man in a remote area off Long Draw Road and Highway 14 in the Poudre Canyon, according to Channel 9 News. The response time was “escalated” once officials learned that the hunter likely had “serious, potentially life-threatening injuries.” “Deputies located the hunter, who had hiked part of the way out of the campground by other hunters,” said Larimer County Sheriff’s office (LCSO) spokesperson Jenevieve Kramer. The first deputy was able to provide first aid and place a tourniquet on the injured man’s arm while keeping him comfortable as they waited for Poudre Canyon Fire Protection District paramedics. Pneumonia found in bighorn sheep in Montana Nine bighorn sheep that were recently introduced into the Little Belt Mountains of Montana have died from pneumonia. Several other sheep within the same herd group have also been demonstrating symptoms of respiratory disease. Bighorn sheep were common in the Little Belt Mountain Range before they were largely extirpated from the mountain range by the early 1900s. Montana Fish Wildlife & Parks and several partner organizations worked to translocate wild sheep to this area in 2020 and 2021 by capturing 83 bighorn sheep in the upper Missouri River Breaks and releasing them into the eastern Little Belts. All of the translocated sheep were fitted with GPS collars before release. Pneumonia in bighorn sheep is often extremely fatal and can severely affect lamb survival in problematic areas. Mycoplasma ovipneumoniae, which is a bacteria that can be carried by wild and domestic sheep, is believed to be the primary agent associated with outbreaks of

RINGS REVEAL THE SECRETS OF WOODCOCK Woodcocks have many secrets. They are not gregarious birds, active at night, migratory - not always nearby. Philopatric - that is, they almost always return with an accuracy of 10 meters (!) not only to their birthplace, but also to their wintering place, as the rings and GPS/GSM beacons "say", in 16 countries of the world. And this is without the Far East and Asia! But where do woodcocks fly in the first year of their life, because in one clearing there can be nesting birds that have arrived from different places and countries of wintering... To the country of their father who wintered in Scandinavia or their mother who flew in from wintering in France? How do they decide where to fly? Nobody knows. Woodcocks settle evenly and everywhere where the moist soils are rich in fat earthworms. They don't need competitors, they like to eat themselves! A careful study of the ring return database gave us proof that chicks from one brood fly to different

10 Elk Hunting Tips from the RMEF Do You Use These Tips? All tips were condensed from past features in RMEF's bi-monthly member magazine, Bugle. A subscription comes with an annual RMEF membership for $35. To join, call 800-CALL ELK or visit www.rmef.org. 1. Scout from Space If you've looked into the night sky, you've noticed the many satellites now orbiting our planet. They're great tools for today's hunter. Google Earth uses satellite images and aerial photography to give bird's-eye views of elk country. Locate meadows, burns, roads, water, heavy-timber escape areas and more. You can even find places where the forest canopy thins to suggest hidden grazing spots for elk. Newer GPS units accept uploaded coordinates from Google Earth, allowing you to walk directly to and more efficiently ground-truth potential honeyholes. 2. Count Points Quickly In good habitat, a bull normally has a 5-point rack as a 2-1/2-year-old and a small 6-point rack the following year. Instantly distinguishi

When is the right time to restrict your aging hunting dog from the field? With shaking hands and nervous anticipation, I slipped the GPS collar around Winchester’s neck and felt the subtle trembling always present prior to launch. For a moment, I considered leaving the collar in the truck, knowing my big running partner wouldn’t be running strong enough for me to fear him going over the edge of nowhere, one of the defining characteristics of our 12-year relationship. He sat quietly, except for the gentle thumping of his tail on the seat, while I assembled the Winchester 101, 12-gauge, I had also considered leaving in the truck. But, Winchester knew that the gun and the collar meant a hunt, and their absence meant the outing was only a walk. The March morning had dawned clear and cold, suggesting the snow cover in the mountains would present a crust that would support Winchester’s weight. Opportunities for the perfect conditions that once were a luxury had become a necessity for Winc

Hunting Perch with Waterfowl Calls From mid-winter through ice-out, Devils Lake guide Jason Feldner “hunts” perch with a system he says can’t be beat. Relying on highly detailed GPS mapping and electronics, signs from Mother Nature and a ‘three call’ system, Feldner quickly locates and ices big perch, day-in-day-out. “When it comes to finding fish, you’ve gotta key in on slight 1-foot depth contours—especially for perch. In mid- and late winter, a good place to start is that 8- to 15-foot range,” says Feldner. Like birds following a migration path, perch slowly travel specific depth contours from mid-winter through late ice to reach their spring spawning areas. “If you can’t get right on those one-foot contours and follow the perch, you’re gonna have a tough time staying on the action,” says Feldner. But to get the contour right, sink an Aqua-Vu camera, and you’ll spy a stockyard of yellow, green and black bars moving amidst swarms of shrimp. “That’s what I try to put my clients on
